Total Lack of Responsiveness
We have been consistently eating at BoccaLupo over the last four years, when visiting my son at college. We thought the food was wonderful, and the service attentive. In advance of graduation I booked for 4 (maximum amount allowed online) then called 3x trying to increase the party size by one to accommodate my family of 5. My calls (and email) were never returned. When I finally got someone in person, they were rude and unhelpful. Removing it from list of restaurants I recommend to Emory parents.

We ate at BoccaLupo this week to celebrate our daughter-in-law's birthday. We were seated immediately upon arrival based on our reservation time. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. The waiter explained the Tasting special for the night which sounded special indeed so we ordered one and then everyone else ordered off the menu. We also had a few appetizers. Everything was so delicious!

Limited menu (food and Bev selection), no salads, little protein offerings, noisy strange that the whole meal has to be ordered at the same time,.definitely not a dining experience – more like a fast food order at the counter eat and go.

My husband and I arrived a few minutes before our 7:30 dinner reservation. the hostess informed us that there would be a wait - despite there being three tables for two set and ready within view. Upon leaving I mentioned to the hostess that we would have liked to be seated upon arrival. the manager then confronted me and told me I was being passive aggressive! While our waiter could not have been better - the food was less than interesting and tasteless. Spend your money somewhere else.

This place is a gem, small, casual but the food is grandiose. Fresh, amazing combinations and just plain creative. Have eaten in close to every higher end Italian restaurant in the city but this is the top of the top in a very casual setting and super friendly atmosphere. More than 1 beer selection would be nice but the cocktails are creative :-)

Be the first to ReplyBest meal in Atanta!
This place is small and casual but has a hip vibe and the food is incredible. Very fresh ingredients with a super creative yet still authentic menu. We had the tasting menu and every dish was fabulous from the perfectly cooked sous vide steak to the risotto to the dessert with peaches that had been macerated in strawberry juice and served in a filo nest- was just amazing. Everything was very flavorful and thoughtfully presented and the service was very personable and genuine. Better than our other 2 meals at Canoe and Miller Union.

It was all so good. From the ceviche with homemade potato chip garnish and tuna crudo to the black spaghetti and the mussels and finishing with perfectly prepared desserts, it was a lovely meal. Service was excellent and the wine list was certainly adequate.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, missing much of the menu, disappointing service
Though the food was good, we unfortunately did not have a great experience our first time at BoccaLupo. First, they ran out of their 3 heavy dishes that I was excited to try (wagyu gnocchi, shrimp risotto, and lasagna). Not a big deal though - I was still very excited for the pasta. It was our first time, and not knowing portion size here we ordered a few half orders of pasta, and were going to let that guide the rest of our order. These were very good (especially the black spaghetti), and after finishing them quickly, the waitress offered to bring us the menu “So we wouldn’t leave hungry”. When she returned and I tried to order more pasta, she informed me that the kitchen threw the pasta water out early for the night (only ~30 min into our 8:15 reservation), as they had no more reservations, and could no longer make pasta. So now my only options were appetizers or dessert. They didn’t offer to boil more pasta water (not a difficult process), and they didn’t apologize. They didn’t offer any compensation. I know COVID has been tough on everyone, but we were very much looking forward to this night out after a long week, and BoccaLupo did not deliver as advertised.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food but request non patio seating
BoccaLupo has been around 7 years and the food explains why that is - it’s really good with large portions and good pricing at $19 or so a dish. The pastas are made in house and soft and delicious and the service is tops. There are signature dishes - the black spaghetti with sausage and shrimp blew me away. Soul satisfying and substantive and I would go back many times just for this dish. The wine list is small but with quality wines. My only problem is that there are 2 dining rooms: a nicely lit room with ambience and comfortable seating and then basically a patio with concrete floors and red steel chairs like you are in a garage. It shouldn’t matter where you sit because the food is great but yet it does matter. A few people that were seated out there requested to be moved inside because of the obvious difference in space and I don’t blame them, it’s very odd. The food however is worth the garage seating if you’re not picky.

Our experience was perfect. Our server explained the menu beautifully and offered excellent advice for both my vegetarian friend and omnivorous self. The texture of the house-made pasta was perfect and the dishes beautifully composed. The wine list is small, but expertly curated. Give the desserts a try - they are not overly large and are complex and delicious.

I usually write positive reviews and I know other opinions / experiences may be at variance from mine but this is my summary of what I consider one of the worst dining experiences I have ver experienced. One the location is in a creepy area and while on a main street is obstruced and somewhat hard to find. Then when you go inside it is so dark you can barely read the menus and I think smells musty. For our pre-dinner cocktails we ordered various wines, none of which in my opinion were very good, all tasted funky and were over priced. The calamari appetizer was much different than what was described on the menu. My entree of lamb pasta was so terrible that even though I was very hungry I could not eat it. We ordered a bottle of red wine for our food, again a terrible experience, nothing like what the menu or our server described. All of this punishment for a bill of over $300. I felt like I had been cheated. My signals / comments at various ponits in the evening to the server that I was not pleased / happy with the quality of the meal (there were significant time gaps in his coming to out table) were all ignored. I will not only NEVER return to this restaurant but will also tell others to never go there.
