Estimar Madrid Reviews
7 Stars out of 5 - Amazing
The food and service are amazing!! Yes, it is expensive, but totally worth it. My meal consisted of raw.oysters (excellent quality), Cabracho (Scorpion fish from NW coast of Spain with a wonderful sauce), and what they called French Toast for dessert (tasted and consistency more like a melt-in-your-mouth custard - not like American French Toast), and all paired with a refreshing white wine - Louro Do Bolo - from Northern Spain. All this was recommended by my server, and was exquisitely prepared. Given all the so-so reviews on TripAdvisor, I was worried - but the experience I had was 7 stars!!
Great experience on Valentine’s Day
My husband and I had dinner here on Valentine’s Day. I was very excited but was worried after reading the reviews here saying service was bad. I am happy to report our service was fantastic - some of the best we had in Madrid. The food was phenomenal and we shared all of the dishes. They also had a valentines promotion and we got to take a bottle of rose back to our hotel!
Bad manners
The director had very bad manners. I asked for a garlic sauce and the restaurant gave me a minimal garlic sauce. I then solicited more sauce and the manager challenged me to the point of physical confrontation. Terrible service, terrible manager.
Unforunate customer service
I booked Estimar for my mothers birthday and we were so excited to go, but the resuraunt only sends text reminders 4 days before your booking and I totally messed up the dates and they were wildly unforgiving for missing my reservation (which I understand is my own fault) and then they overcharged me for missing the booking and its been nearly a month and still waiting to receive a refund. They have been very difficult to work with and the booking platform also didnt recognize that I had been over charged when I contested it.

This was our big night out when we were in Barcelona and easily the place we spent the most. They specialize in seafood and steak. Upon entering you see the butcher station with the seafood and meat spread out for your view. It looks extremely fresh. The front smells like seafood. I personally love the salty smell of seafood, but I know some people can't stand it. Our host and waiter were very nice and accommodating. We were sitting in a little alcove a little away from everyone on our own, until more parties came creating an intimate ambiance. We received complimentary bites of fish (sardines?) with bread to start us off. Then we ordered oysters and razor clams for appetizers. I really enjoyed the oysters. They were bright, fresh, and nothing was too overcomplicated with extra flavors or overwhelming ingredients. I wasn't so much a fan of the razor clams. The texture wasn't bad at all, but the flavor fell a little flat and left a bitter taste in my mouth. For our entree we ordered the monkfish. It was very good! Keep in mind they let the flavor of the fish shine through, so it is really simple. Seafood is my favorite, so I was still able to enjoy it without the flavor complexity. My husband did not enjoy that aspect. He wasn't a fan of the fish because there wasn't a bolder flavor. I basically ate the whole fish because (to me) it was that good. Because he was disappointed with the fish, we wanted to try their beef since he had high hopes for this restaurant. We ordered steak. It was cooked very well, moist, and tender. However, once again, they let the flavor of the meat shine through on its own and didn't add a bunch of seasoning for flavor. My husband was a little disappointed with the lack of complex flavor but enjoyed the steak more than the fish because he is a steak lover. The restaurant was very expensive, but everything was cooked well and fresh. Also, they offered some unique options. Overall, I thought it was really good, but I can see how its not everyone's cup of tea.
Not recommended, very expensive.
The restaurant is located near Atocha Street. Modern place, although very tight and noisy. Friendly service, but in the style of a lot of pretense and little efficiency. Load of unpretentious seafood, and other viands of apparent luxury. Low quality and exorbitant prices. Not recommended.
Definitely aspires to star
Located on one side of the Congress of Deputies, it is an advisable experience: Well decorated, spacious, quiet and not crowded place. Professional and correct attention. Speed and agility in service. The food is fine and very well prepared, although the menu is not excessive. Based mainly on fish and grilled preparations, it is designed to share all requests. Highlight the flan, a recommendation from the waitress, which is simply sensational. The downside is the cost since the prices are relatively high, although given the quality, it is not a demerit.
Absolutely fabulous, intimate, and delicious spot.
Everything was sooo fresh and beautifully presented. Make sure to make a reservation as this place is small. Wine list was spectacular too
100% disappointment
I add a ticket of €248 for 2 people. Something is expensive or cheap, so my pocket tells me when it comes to paying. If I can't pay it it will be expensive in relation to my purchasing power. But something can also be expensive if it is not worth what I paid or they want to charge. In this case this site does not live up to what they charge. Tables of 2 close together with a minimum distance that makes it difficult to have the slightest privacy. It looks like communal tables like a campsite. That cannot be allowed by a restaurant that intends to charge a cover where I pay €130 per person to start. The service was correct without further ado. The right product. My table attached to the literal bathroom.!!!!!!!! Coats are hung in the men's bathroom, so the door opens all the time. Can you imagine it? How awful!!!!! Noisy in general, you hear everything even if you don't want to since the distance between tables is minimal. The prices are set per 100 grams and when you order a turbot, as in our case, it weighs almost 1 kilo without previously telling us how much it would weigh. Scandalous!!!! This restaurant must consider changing many things of course. The client does not leave happy!!!!! Do you feel that Estimar rips you off?!!!! You should know!!!!! It is not just destructive criticism! It's for you to take note!!! Thank you so much. I will not return, much less recommend the experience.
Awful sewage smell at very expensive ESTIMAR MADRID
REALLY AWFUL experience. Booked via THE FORK, we were assigned a table and there was an awful smell coming from the toilets. Spoke to the manager to change table. We were told that if we did not like it we were free to leave..... After we were told that Rafa, the owner, had been informed about the toilet smell and nothing had been done. They have had several complaints about sewage smell at the restaurant and they just could not be bothered. It was my third time at Estimar. I think food is totally overrated and staff a bit arrogant. Bad relationship quality / price and total disrespect to their customers. How can you sell a table next to a smelly toilet in a top tier restaurant? Needless to say we left and ended up going to a restaurant near where we had a wonderful and very pleasant dinner.
From another world
Unique experience from start to finish. Varied and dedicated options. Tidal wave blew my mind. The raw material is the star
In clear decline!
It started out as a great product reference, it still has a good product, but no longer the best in the capital, it no longer has the excellent calibers, nor the expected freshness. Obviously, and with the success achieved by its owners/partners, they do not stop opening restaurants and doing gigs all over the world... but above all, because finding Rafa Zafra or Ricardo here is because there is a VERY BUT VERY IMPORTANT VIP (like Barack Obama in Barcelona with Spielberg and Bruce S.) otherwise you have a correct service, they don't know the clientele... and Juanma Galan, a few weeks ago he left the group at the beginning of the opening of Rural (in which he was a partner) WHAT A LOST, And this is a big loss, it was the soul of the restaurant… in short, a restaurant with a poor quality/price ratio. Rafa and Anna are dedicated to enjoying success by publishing their ostentatious life (with their new and respective partners) around the world…. This is not what it was. I give a normal, because of the great meals I had here... to live off Jondal, because I don't predict a great future here
The sea at another level
Spectacular quality and service. Excellent raw material with that sublime touch of differentiating ember. It is worth repeating to explore all the options.
Made a reservation on August 11 for October 28 for 6 of us.
Walked up to the restaurant on time and we were told that they have us in a special private dining room and took us back out to next door. What we entered was their daytime office with a makeshift table - no music, no atmosphere - photos show everything below. Then when I asked why we are sitting here and why nobody warned us ahead, they apologized and said they were very busy and told us that if we wanted to we could cancel. 6 people on a Saturday night at 9pm and they tell us we can cancel. Food was good, luckily our company was good, but everything else about it was absolutely unacceptable. They did comp us about 300 euros worth in a bill of 1000 - next day we found out we were bumped because of Mick Jagger - regardless horrible dining experience - didn't even get to meet Mick.
Do not waste your money.
The food was so overpriced and not very good and very basic. Spices and sauces were lacking. Two shrimp “ red prawns from Rose” cost 28 euro! My husband enjoyed his three bites but I gave mine to him after my first unpleasant bite. Ambience was also lousy. Tables very close together and my husband’s seat faced the kitchen door that continued to open and close. We moved tables but then sat right next to the bathrooms that did not smell very good. Another couple also moved their seats.
Overpriced and so so
We had high expectations for a great meal, but were let down. While food was ok, hardly worth the $285 for a dinner for two. Ambience is not a top high end restaurant level and service was fair.
Very expensive
We had a lunch booking for 1.15. We arrived at 1.10 to be turned away by staff smoking outside saying they don’t open until 1.15. We wandered the streets in the heat debating whether we should cancel as that doesn’t give the best first impression. However, once inside, we were given a great table with a view of the chefs working. The fresh fish was on display and it was excellent quality. Staff were friendly and attentive. Our razor clams were on the rubbery side but our prawns and our sea bream were cooked to perfection. Wine choices were good. Unfortunately prices were steep (€48 for two medium prawns 😳) and for two people we paid over £300 in total. We had better meals with better value elsewhere hence our rating.

Out of Country Review - SpainOur final dinner in Spain was at Estimar on Monday night. We went out with a bang at this amazing and intimate seafood spot.Quality: An excellent upscale seafood experience. Every dish was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The Crayfish Carpaccio despite its odd color was wonderful. The Pickled Skewers were my favorite bite of the evening. The Cantabrian Anchovies were tremendous and should not be skipped. Both the Razor Clams and the Sauteed Clams showcased flavor mastery. And the Scorpion Fish entree and how it was served was incredible.Quantity: Good size dishes.Value: Expensive.Ambiance: Estimar is a small seafood restaurant located in the El Born neighborhood of Barcelona. It is on the backroad of a backroad, so prepare some time to locate it. The inside is very small and the kitchen is built around the dining space. This puts you in the middle of the action and heavily involved in your neighbors dinner. Crowd: Extremely small space, every seat filled.Service: Exemplary.
Michelin star quality restaurant
Super cool cuisine, very creative and original. The service is perfect. Price is quite high though, almost at Michelin star restaurant level.
Subpart quality of service and food compared to Barcelona restaurant
Went in expecting same level of finesse as the Barcelona restaurant but it was probably one of the most underwhelming expeience. As most of the 2-3 star reviews mention, they care more about selling dishes and charge you rather than quality. The main menu that we came to this place for (chipotos con mayonesa) wasn’t even available (plus 4 others dishes) and our reservation was the first when it opened. The service was sub part when they realize you do not like their food, rather than rectifying why you may not like it, along with purposely making you wait as if that will change your mind magically. The servers were probably the only good aspect of being attentive other than their fries. It’s one thing being expensive, but serving subpar food for what’s charged is outrageous. We had way better food experience at Ten Con Ten & Juana La Loca where both service and food are terrific and puts this place to shame. TLDR: The Barcelona Estimar restaurant is excellent sadly the Madrid one is subpar.
