This was my first time at Harris's Steakhouse, and from the moment I walked in, I absolutely loved the vibe. When you enter, you head to the left, where you can choose to sit in either the dining room or the lounge. Since I didn't have a reservation and wanted to enjoy the live music, I chose the lounge -- and I'm so glad I did. The room was beautiful and had a warm, classic ambiance. The live music added so much to the atmosphere -- a jazzy trio with a drummer, a cello player, and a pianist set the perfect mood for the evening. I was seated right away and greeted with fresh rolls and butter, and I ordered sparkling water while I waited for my friends. When they arrived, they both ordered the petite steak, and I went with the salmon, which came with mashed potatoes and a veggie medley. I also had a glass of white wine. The food was absolutely incredible -- the salmon melted in my mouth. Everything was cooked to perfection. The staff were so kind and attentive throughout the evening. Even a trip to the restroom felt elevated -- there was someone there to guide you, which was a touch I've never seen before. Overall, it was an amazing experience. I'm definitely planning to come back -- next time, I'll have a glass of wine, try an appetizer, and soak in more of the lounge vibes and live music.

Literally ruined all other steaks for me for a while because of how amazing it was. I loved everything about this place.
As a mother of the bride I am thankful for all the help
As a mother of the bride I am thankful for all the help Marc, the GM gave to pull off a surprise video at my daughters event in the Starlight room. Beautiful room, very personable staff, amazing food! Do Not hesitate to plan an event with this restaurant as the team , waiters, bar tenders are very personable and attentive. Bravo!!

I had my 50th bday celebration here with 25 of my closest friends and had to give a big thank you Harris and their staff!! I usually don't like going to steakhouses other than prime rib joints as I cook a mean steak at home. But this is the one place I would say delivers every time I've visited! They have private rooms for large parties and never did we feel rushed to leave the place! Definitely would recommend!!

This place makes house of prime rib look like McDonalds in all ways. Service:impeccable. Ambiance: San Francisco of the old days. It's pricey but worth every single penny. It never disappoints.
Harris' continues to be the best restaurant experience ever.
The service is so much better than others... perfect in every way. The consistency of the food deserves mention - always great. What a gem! Now I've discovered this new Pavlova dessert - you've never had this! Fantastic!
Delicious! First timer.
We really enjoyed ourselves... food and ambience was perfect. Music was beautiful. Steak Diane was good but I recommend the New York... The scallop potatoes were THE BEST EVER! Baked Alaska was good. But I don't think I'd order that again. I would try something different.
Harris' is an institution! It's one of my favorite
Harris' is an institution! It's one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco and I have to visit at least once if not twice every time I am in town. Service is outstanding from the moment you walk in. The food and cocktails are of the highest quality. I highly recommend the prime rib! They have both a formal dining room and a lounge area with incredible live music. Dinner is served in both. Reservations are highly recommended. You can't go wrong with Harris'.

We made reservations and were running a bit late and they were able to accommodate us so that was a plus. As you walk up to see the various cuts of beef on the display. We were taken to our seat pretty quick. Our water was always full which I love that. All the service we received was great. The atmosphere was nice a little loud but that nothing that can really be controlled. The drink menu was very nice had great options. Our food came pretty quick and was super delicious. I will say they made a mistake on the order but we just left it alone. We both asked for Scalloped Potatoes and the gave us baked potato on one for whatever reason. It is a bit pricy as any steak house but I hope to return here one day.
Good But Not Great
An upscale Outback chain steakhouse. Nothing to write home about but good. Epic Harris Ranch and House of Prime Rib ae much better. No view except teh street and homelss or ratehr our unhoused neighbors. Again not impressive. A little pricer than Epic but without the view.

Exceptional service and food! We had a fantastic time and will put this on the list for a return visit in the future!
Perfect birthday dinner
This was truly an outstanding experience. Sean was our waiter and took care of our every need. I started with a caesar salad and followed with and absolutely perfect piece of prime rib. I don't think I've had better anywhere. Mashed potatoes were real with loads of butter and cream as it should be. Creamed spinach was superb. She had a beautiful filet that cut like butter and an outstanding shrimp cocktail. We highly recommend this establishment as one the best steakhouses in the country
Lovely meal.
We had a thoroughly lovely meal here. The food itself was excellent throughout, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. There was live jazz, and that can be a double edged sword: it's great to hear it (and the musicians were fine players) but also sometimes live music in a restaurant can be a bit overbearing. This wasn't, it was pitched just right in terms of volume and intensity. All credit to the players. The staff were friendly and again in a somewhat more formal restaurant such as this, it can be a hard balance to get right. Everyone we interacted with maintained a certain level of decorum without being too stuffy or needlessly pompous. So visiting Harris' felt like a special occasion, while also being enjoyable. Of course we had steaks, which were as good as expected, but all the courses were a similarly high standard. Our thanks to everyone at the restaurant for a great evening.
Perhaps the best Steakhouse in town!
This continues to be one of the best, if not the very best, steakhouse in San Francisco. The quality food, and the superb service, are a real treat. Tonight we loved our meal - three different steaks, the Ribeye, the Harris Steak, and a Peppercorn New York. We all raved how good they were, and perfectly prepared. The ambiance is great - nice leather booths, and quiet enough to converse. In summary, a delicious and super experience, and highly recommended!
Blew me away
This place is special from the moment you arrive to the minute you leave. A professional welcome at the front of house and a great introduction to our waiter, Adam. Through his recommendation, we ordered away & when our meal arrived, I said that this looked like my perfect steak & by God it was. A truly wonderful restaurant that I can not recommend enough.
The Helmand Restaurant is a revelation and a delight!
The Helmand Restaurant has been in business for 45 years and it's great! A few years ago the restaurant moved from Broadway to Van Ness Avenue (near Lombard) and was sold to a long-time staff member. The food is wonderful. It isn't "strange" and everybody we've taken there has loved it. Go for the Aushok appetizer and any of their sweet pumpkin offerings and you'll be sold! You can't go wrong with any of the menu items. For something a little different from your usual western fare--try the Helmand!!
Delicious Dinner for Date Night
This is one of San Francisco hot spots for a delicious steak. My husband and I celebrated our Anniversary in San Francisco. We had reservations for this restaurant. The employees were so polite and really took care of us upon arriving. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and made sure we received a special anniversary dessert. The restaurant was romantic for setting the mood for the evening. If youโre ever in the area please stop by, you will not be disappointed.
Spectacular food & service, retro vibe.
Harris restaurant is the real deal. The building dates from the 50โs and was lavishly updated while keeping the original saloon vibe; reminiscent of the Palm Court of the Plaza Hotel in NYC. Service is professional European style with white linen table cloths and silver service; yet the ambiance is hip and cozy; lots of regulars, lots of tech bros with an active bar scene. We live in Boston and like the food so much we make an annual pilgrimage, especially on a Thursday night when Kent Strand and trio are tickling the ivories on the baby grand in the bar area. Light and engaging jazz favorites level up the vibe; itโs a very special experience. A note about the menu, its heavy on meat with some fish and chicken entrees. I am sure you can call ahead for a vegetarian or vegan entrรฉe. The exterior on Van Ness and Pacific is plain, but the interior will blow you away. Be swept away by old school elegance; treat yoโ self!
Impressive service and delicious food
We enjoyed our dinner last night at Harris. The fried mushrooms were delicious. The service is always impeccable. My husband ordered the special truffle potato soup and loved it. He had crab cakes as his entree. I ordered the Steak Diane with a baked potato. Dinner at Harris is always a special evening!
Always the best, consistently good service.
Plus Great Food, in a classic San Francisco setting.

This fine dining establishment in San Francisco is everything you can ask for: really good steak, good quality food overall, great service, and live music on a Tuesday night (most places don't have live music middle of the week). The 20 oz ribeye was cooked to perfection. I asked for medium rare and it was absolutely perfectly medium rare, super juicy and tender. Everything I ordered was fresh and tasty. I wish I had room for dessert, but unfortunately my appetite is not what it once was! I sat right next to the musicians and loved my front row seat. The music wasn't too loud since there were no drummer this time. I like sitting against one side of the wall and just people watch. Can't wait to come back! Although this place is wonderful, it does come with a hefty price tag so I would consider this a special occasion type of place. Perfect for a date who you are trying to impress, or out-of-towners who really love a good steak, or business dinner if you have the budget for it.

Absolutely amazing! We came for our 15 year anniversary and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Our server was so helpful and polite. We first thought the service was kind of slow but when the food came out we knew different. My husband got the filet mignon, the cook was perfect but the sear on the outside was the star of the plate. My prime rib was cooked perfectly and melted like butter. 10/10 we will definitely be coming back. Thank you for making our anniversary dinner so special
A very nice fine dining experience.
The ambiance is a low key, dimly lit, historical camas-themed restaurant. The steaks are delicious and perfectly cooked to order. There are many other menu items to choose from. We had an amazing beat salad to start, steak, and a bread pudding dessert. The whiskey menu is impressive! A leather-bound book filled with their whiskeys, scotches, bourbon, etc. Service was accurate and pretty friendly.

Ayo, it's your boy Daniel Lee and lemme tell ya 'bout my experience at Harris' Steakhouse in San Francisco. This spot ain't playin' around when it comes to steak - straight five stars, no doubt! Walkin' into Harris' is like steppin' into a classy, smooth joint. The vibe is all about that old-school elegance, with dark wood, comfy seats, and just the right amount of dim lighting to set the mood. Now, let's talk about the main event - that American Wagyu steak. Man, oh man, it was off the chain! Cooked just right, juicy, and packed with flavor. Each bite was like a party in my mouth, no lie. And don't even get me started on them scalloped potatoes - creamy, cheesy, straight up comfort food that had me feelin' like I was chillin' at home. The service was on point, too. Harris' crew knows how to treat a playa right. They were all about makin' sure I was feelin' good, with dope recommendations on wine that took the whole meal to another level. From start to finish, Harris' Steakhouse delivers that top-notch experience. Whether you rollin' solo or with your crew, this place is a must-hit for anyone lookin' to vibe out with some serious steak game in SF. So, if you wanna elevate your steak game and kick it in a spot that's all about class and flavor, Harris' Steakhouse is where it's at. Best believe, I'll be back for more! --- Hope that's what you were lookin' for! Let me know if you wanna add any more flavor to it!
The staff here was very accommodating.
They took us in at the last moment during a busy dinner time. They gave us a great table and treated us just like everybody else. Both me and my wife felt comfortable and relaxed during our stay. I had the 20 oz bone in rib eye steak and my wife had the 8 oz petite filet mignon. Everything was delicious. The staff was great and the ambiance was classy. We will certainly return.
Growing up in SF, I've passed by Harris' many times.
I just can't believe I've never eaten here until recently. This is your old-school, traditional steakhouse. The decor and ambiance are reminders of a more simple time. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night. Instead of opting for steak, all seven of us ordered the prime rib. The dish comes with their traditional baked potato with all the fixings or potato of the day and creamed spinach. You can also choose to pick different sides if you'd like. Service was excellent and attentive. The prime rib was amazing! It definitely is up there with HOPR and you actually get to eat at a decent time here. We also got some appetizers to start, breaded fried scallops which was a special that day (really good) and the fried mushroom and onion rings combo (probably will skip this next time). The cocktails (sip strong and Manhattan were also refreshing. Street parking is not too bad and they also offer valet. This is a definite return for us! Maybe next time I'll try the steak.
Harris is an institution and for good reason! Always good
Harris is an institution and for good reason! Always good advice and good food! Had the peppercorn steak and it was delicious. S
Old School classic
Someplace special for a birthday celebration, and the honoree had never been here. Walking in, the small butcher case and area show you what theyโre famous for. Nice greeting and prompt seating. Waiter, menus and glasses of water and what a menu. I could have ordered so many things, such wonderful choices. Sweetbreads are amazing, all the apps we tried were great. And those steaks! Wow! Perfectly cooked and deliciously tender. Nice wines by the glass offerings. Superb old school style and service. Enjoy!
I was here on a Saturday night, so seating was hard to come
I was here on a Saturday night, so seating was hard to come by, and even though I had called ahead to make a reservation, I was told that I would still have to wait for a seat if it was full by then. In the end I decided to take my chances and the waiter was very friendly and found me a seat. Despite the size of the restaurant, it was packed and the live piano performance added a pleasant touch to the atmosphere. I only ordered the filet mignon, which was flavorful and perfectly done.

My family threw a surprise party for my great-grandmother's birthday, and we loved every part of the experience, from planning to the dinner itself. We booked their Skylight room, which can fit up to 70 guests, chose a custom menu, and had the option for an open bar (which we declined). They let us arrive a few hours early to set up decorations and provided a microphone and projector for speeches and a photo presentation. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and my grandmother had a wonderful time. I definitely want to return for an upscale date night to enjoy the restaurant's ambiance.
Good but expensive!
The service was great! The food was great but expensive. The place was old fashion, so interesting but in a good way. I would recommend if you are ready to spend a pretty penny.
Enjoyed a great dinner at Harris' on a packed Saturday
Enjoyed a great dinner at Harris' on a packed Saturday night .Reservations a must. Prompt and attentive service. Great cocktails - we enjoyed both types of manhattan, the diplomat and fight like a girl! Great wine selection and the sommelier would even approach at the beginning to ask if you need any assistance or recommendations -excellent! We enjoyed a tuna poke appetizer, pepper steak, Harris' steak and rib eye --yummy! You can also enjoy live jazz playing in the background coming from the bar area in the next room.
Service was good, but food could have been better.
Wasn't impressed with their food selection considering their competitor offerings.
Harris' Review Have a lot to say about this place: First
Harris' Review Have a lot to say about this place: First and foremost the food quality: 1. We got the smoked salmon and wedge salad as our apps, AND THERE WAS A PIECE OF PLASTIC IN OUR SALMON (which took 40 minutes to get to us). Justin didn't want to say anything about it so we let it be but if I knew the rest of the meal would've gone as it did I definitely would have. 2. Steak was cooked to perfection and flavored well, no notes. Unfortunately, they made the choice to pair it with... peas and carrots?? That was made worse by the fact that the peas weren't de-stemmed or stringed AND undercooked. And by carrots, I mean no more than 10 pieces of shredded carrots on top. Also weirdly greasy. 3. They took so long to bring out our appetizers- one of which was a wedge salad that was a literal quarter head of lettuce, 4 cherry tomatoes, and a single olive- that we finished our bread, and they didn't ask if we wanted a refill until after we finished our appetizers. The service was subpar-- for as high scale of a restaurant it was supposed to be, it was quite disappointing: 1. We waited AT LEAST 20 minutes between everything- water to bread, to apps, to drinks then 30 minutes to entrees. Also we got butter as soon as we were sat and by the time we got our bread our butter was starting to melt. For context, our reservation was at 6:15 and we didn't leave until 9 2. Justin and I ordered drinks, and then after our appetizers, he ordered another drink. Surprise!!! He never got it. 3 hour dinner... and they couldn't make one old fashioned. 3. The waiters for the most part left us alone which I usually wouldn't complain about but I noticed they were very attentive and talkative with every other party around us?? 4. I was wearing quite a big, hefty jacket, and I didn't know they had a coat check until the host seated a party to the right of us and immediately asked if they wanted him to take their jackets. I had to wave him over and ask him to take this massive jacket in this tiny booth we were in! I have so much more to say about this entire experience, but have already said a lot and I'm sure the point was gotten across. And I really wouldn't care this much if the restaurant wasn't SO DAMN EXPENSIVE and renowned by many. Extremely let down and annoyed that we paid this much money for lackluster service and mid food.
Frankly it's the only accessible Steakhouse in SF.
Our favorite, IZZYS is closed down for remodeling and The House of Prime Rib is booked out for six months making it virtually impossible to get a reservation.

This was our second time dining at Harris and it is definitely our favorite special occasion restaurant. The ambiance, service and food cannot be beat. Our anniversary was so special spent here!
Great food.
we loved the steak, potato, and so on. Came here with my daughter and we all loved it. I feel the abeef was dry aged, from what they told me. The asparagus, everything was amazing and had a unique flavor to it. I feel the waiters were ncie. It was a good vibe for my daughters birthday. Thank you for making it special!
Another great meal at Harrisโ
Harrisโ is a classic steakhouse with exceptional service. We left our cruise ship to enjoy a meal there and it did not disappoint. We have been there several times before and the excellence is sustaining.
Best steakhouse in town, Elegant Ambiance
Fine dining for carnivore's. The mouthwatering prime cuts are on display in refrigerated glass cases which will wet your appeittite to be sure. White tablecloth service. Valet parking or find street parking on Franklin or Polk, Van Ness is tough.
Great happy hour
Came here for the great happy hour. Had espresso martinis and apps. Its a great vibe and good happy hour prices. The waitress was a bit sassy, but we got to like her by the end. It was a busy day.
Traditional Steakhouse
Traditional American Steakhouse. We ate in the bar where there was music playing. Food was excellent! Wine was beautiful and the staff are first class. Special wee treat for my birthday too. Shame about some of the obnoxious business men waiting at the bar for a table who were very loud and looked women up and down as they passed.
Best Traditional Steakhouse In San Francisco
When I want a good steak in San Francisco, this is where I go. It is all that a steakhouse should be - good and bad - and consistently reliable in that. On my last visit I went with a friend whom I had not seen since the start of the pandemic. I arranged for a booth. He asked if I had gained some weight during the pandemic. I said I think we all did. He came in at around 400 lbs. He could not fit in the booth. I was tremendously impressed as the staff sprung into action and immediately brought in a narrower table and set it within perhaps 90 seconds while we waited. They know their clientele.
As usual, OUTSTANDING! Excellent steaks and cooked to perfection
Recently returned to San Francisco to celebrate a friends Birthday Party. We chose Harris of course who put our group of 9 in the private board room. So fortunate to have long-time and wonderfully experienced host โAndyโ provide the service for the evenings event. Andy, as usual, was so warm and attentive. Everyone enjoyed his hospitality. From the prime rib, bone in rib eyes and the filetsโฆall cooked to perfectionโฆ.amazing side dishes (Onion rings and mushrooms). Andy and the staff were so kind to prepare a special desert for usโฆThank Andyโฆ.see you on our next visit back to SF (We have been coming here since Ann Harris was seating patrons with menus under her arm, more than 30 yearsโฆour absolute favoriteโฆ.they never disappoint)
Incredible dining experience, excellent service and the rib
Incredible dining experience, excellent service and the rib eye steak we got (and split btw two people) was massive each piece looked like a full steak cooked perfectly medium rare. Drink pours also generous, great spacious ambiance and live band. Best steakhouse in SF

A Shout Out to Dress For Success SF / SJ for reaching out
A Shout Out to Dress For Success SF / SJ for reaching out to Harris Restaurant to donate a $150 gift certificate for their annual fundraiser to Inspire Women.... The silent auction was a success and I was the recipient of this . My 1st time at Harris' , Reasonable Valet Parking with convenient payment via card inside restaurant or cash when leaving. Restaurant opens promptly at 1700 hours. There was a line out the door. Most people headed straight for the bar. We r seated right away a cozy booth table for two. We were greeted by Fabulous Elliot who was on top of his game!!! The Best Server who gave us options and suggestions of what to try. We ordered our beginnings fresh Washington State oysters, platter of 6-succulent ,sweet and the the taste of the ocean, option to place garlic vinegar or cocktail sauce(not needed for my oysters I enjoyed) , We had to try Manhattan style clam chowder with fresh baked sourdough bread and churned butter. Ohhhlala delish. This humble beginnings filled by Steak tartare & Japan style Wagyu Seared Ribeye slices talk about an explosive flavor in your mouth. Of course we paired our meal with Castello di Amorosa finest Sangiovese wine 2012. Great conversation with Elliot lead us to our Main attraction. Elliot was educating us of where the tender Bison Ribeye was from the state of Wyoming . My husband and I were so impressed with Elliot's service and how well the team of service people : bread, water , changing of service utensils and linens. The Chef was on point. Dessert was a banana crรจme brรปlรฉe, I thought it was too sweet but that's just me. We finished our meal and dessert with hot espresso.... Muah!!! You might ask why I did not give a 5 stars.... Management was not very friendly and seemed very uptight.

Returned tonight after more than a few years to find the food and the service as quality as I remembered. Filets all around, perfectly medium rare, sides of sautรฉed mushrooms and creamed spinach solid sides along with the baked potatoes dressed to order. Caesar and wedge salads a nice start to the meal, with sazeracs and old fashioneds to begin and a lovely Malbec by the stem to accompany the main. Primary server Elliot was attentive and the staff cleared on time. And the house cheesecake and a double espresso completed our meal on a high note!

Every time me and my family visit Harris ranch we have to stop by and enjoy there amazing food not just saying I honestly believe this is one of the best steakhouses I've ever been too any time I have friends or family visiting California this is one of the best places to take them because they never disappoint...thank you Harris ranch staff for the awesome hospitality and service we love you
Never disappoints.
Classic. Professional staff and excellent food.
I enjoyed my dinner at Harris'.
Firstly, I love the vibe of the place -- large booths with brown leather backs against a dark interior. It brings a sense of older dining room glamor that has slowly faded over time, yet is relaxing and refreshing to experience in 2021. The wait staff here are attentive to details, and I would say no detail is too short of mentioning and it will be accommodated. In terms of the food, I thought that everything was fresh and top quality.
