Ikoyi Restaurant St. James's London Reviews from The Last Year
One of our friends got food poisoning and was unable to
One of our friends got food poisoning and was unable to make it to dinner, yet they refused to accommodate and will still charge you full price. I understand cancellation policies for no-shows or people without ample reason, but if someone physically CANNOT eat, some hospitality is expected. Reading the other negative reviews, the poor service and attitude seems to be consistent. Regardless, myself and my other two friends still went with high expectations and ready to enjoy the night but it fell flat pretty much immediately and continued that theme throughout the meal. Service is terrible; no one explains the dishes in detail or they mumble and you have to ask them to repeat things over and over again. No insight is given on the ingredients or culture they are supposedly pulling from; you have to ask for clarification and the servers won't know the answer anyways so they have to leave to ask the kitchen for every basic question. On top of this, 90% of the staff here are unfriendly and have pompous attitudes about them. We went to Restaurant Story a few days before and the staff there was INCREDIBLE! Super accommodating and friendly, very personable and they really went the extra mile to make us feel welcomed. At Ikoyi, everyone has this aura about them like THEY are doing YOU a favor by letting you eat there. It was really weird and uncomfortable. Even with all that, I was expecting the food to make it worth it since they have 2 stars, but unfortunately that too ended up being the worst Michelin meal I've eaten, Bib Gourmand included. I did not finish many of my dishes, and the only one I was legitimately impressed by for the flavor and execution was a simple one bite dry aged salmon with ikura appetizer. I have absolutely no idea how this place has managed to get 2 stars; it's a ridiculous establishment with subpar food and rude staff. Even the kitchen seemed unserious and like there was no passion; just a bunch of 20 year olds laughing with each other and trying to get their check and clock out, uncaring of the reputation they are feeding into. 2/3rds of the way through the meal they even started soaping and hosing down all the kitchen walls, climbing on top of the counters, and breaking it all down despite the dining room being full. All I could smell were the cleaning products for the last few courses. Save yourself the headache and the money and go to any of the other countless Michelin restaurants in London.
Great experience!!
One of our best experiences food wise and we have been visiting many Michelin stars restaurants around the world in the past 30 years !! Jeremy and his team are not only serving amazing food but the whole zen atmosphere of the restaurant and the service made us feel very relaxed. We will be back :))
Place to be avoided
Good food but extremely expensive wine menu, quite pretentious overall. The most shocking is that I was genuinely sick that day and the day before and we tried to postpone our reservation, which they categorically refused. For me not to lose 650£ I had to go eat that never ending dinner menu with shivers and fever, which was not a nice experience.
Top tier fine dining experience
I first visited Ikoyi in 2020. Back then, they were located in St James and it was a fairly “normal” restaurant in terms of decor, serving an a la carte menu which was reasonably priced. What was not normal though was the food. It was an outstanding meal and I knew it wouldn’t be my last visit. Fast forward 4 years and they’ve really grown up to become a serious fine dining destination in London, and one that can somehow get away with charging far more money than the likes of Core, The Ledbury, etc. The high prices definitely pushed it into special occasion territory for me, and ultimately we decided to visited when my wife was celebrating a milestone birthday. The current location is a bit random, but once you step inside it has been really nicely set up with dark, earthy tones and a fully open kitchen that faces the dining room. There are only 10 tables in the restaurant and we were lucky to get one of the 3 tables in the “front row”, giving us a great view of Jeremy and his team in the kitchen. No menu was presented until the end of the meal, but there were roughly 4 snacks, 4 starters, a main course and then 2 desserts plus the petit fours which turned out to be another individual dessert. The food was excellent, an almost entirely different menu versus my prior visit, but the unusual flavours and combinations had been maintained and there were some nice hits of spice in a few dishes, which we really enjoyed. Since I raised the topic of value for money, I now have to backtrack a bit as the quantity of food served was far higher than typical fine dining venues, perhaps even 50% more, which basically explains away the price differential. I have a big appetite and I was quite full up by the end of the meal. No bread was on offer, and it definitely wasn’t needed either! Service was another stand out aspect of the meal. Staff were so genuine and friendly, it made for a very relaxed experience. But best of all, we were served perhaps half of our courses by Jeremy Chan himself! He was such a lovely, down to earth guy and we really enjoyed our interactions with him. The bill for our meal was a punchy £986, which comprised the 2 tasting menus (£320 each), a single wine pairing (priced at £180), a couple of extra drinks and a coffee, plus service. No doubt a very expensive meal but as mentioned the portions were generous, and combining this with the differentiated menu, excellent service and comfortable setting, it did add up to be one of my favourite fine dining experiences in London, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.
Spices are so strong
I was so excited about ikoyi London 2 Michelin star restaurant. I have been dining many Michelin star restaurants in the world but this was the first time I could not finish almost every course. African spices were so over powering the great ingredients and it was very disappointed. All the desserts were also not for me.
Food art to stimulate the senses and delight! A totally tasteful lunch
Coming in from the cold there was a very warm welcome. There was a very special cola to have with an excellent rum and order it with the one special large ice cube experience! Calm chefs and a beautiful flow of dishes presented in stylish ceramic settings. The layers of tastes in each course were exciting.
Visual gastronomic treat that costs quite a bomb
Three of us had a birthday dinner at Ikoyi in London’s St James’s neighbourhood a few nights ago. It’s a very small fine dining restaurant with two Michelin stars, helmed by Jeremy Chan, a Chinese-Canadian chef who apparently honed his culinary skills from his teenage years. I understand it’s a place that is usually fully booked, so we were really excited when we managed to reserve a table. Let me say this right at the beginning: as foodies, we truly enjoyed our “omakase” dinner. We oooh-ed and ahhh-ed often, because every dish was an explosion of flavours! Highlights were: 1)Smoked Sirloin & Shishito Pepper (everything went so well together, including the crispy little cracker-like cup that reminded me of the Peranakan kueh pie tee) 2)Mussel & Saffron Crème Caramel (visually pleasing with a vibrant presentation of ingredients, including a generous helping of caviar, to boot!) 3)Pigeon Suya 4)Turbot & Egusi Miso 5)Native Breed Rib, Roast Cep & Sauerkraut The names of the dishes do not do them justice, as there were actually so many more ingredients and elements in each dish. For instance, I enjoyed the little truffle infused brioche that was also topped with shavings of truffle. There were four desserts, including two main ones - Green Yuzu & Rye Amazake, and Black-Eyed Pea & Caramelised White Chocolate. While the former was a yummy sorbet, we especially liked the latter…partly because it was a dessert that incorporated another generous scoop of caviar and shavings of truffle! The service was professional, with staff giving a running commentary of all the ingredients they had memorised. But it was rather robotic at times and somehow lacked the spontaneity and warmth I am used to even at fine-dining restaurants. (Perhaps staff were trying too hard to remember what they had to say!) The menu was presented to us at the end of the meal, so we could confirm and/or recall what we had consumed! I am glad the birthday girl enjoyed herself immensely. But quite frankly, it would have been better if the VVIP dining area was not quite so near the door, despite the presence of a heavy privacy curtain. Also, while we caught the chef and team in action in their small open concept kitchen, it would have been more memorable to have met the chef after our meal. (The menu they revealed at the end actually had a final paragraph that said: “We are truly grateful to have your support, which allows us to do what we love”.) Including drinks, the bill came to a whopping £467 per person. (FYI, to make a table reservation, one needs to put down a deposit of £300 per person.) For the amount spent, it’d better be a very special meal for a very special occasion (for a very special person)!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
