What a disappointment
We were quite excited to dine at Josephine House and booked several months in advance to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. When booking on Open Table we were give the choice of a “standard” reservation or an “outdoor” reservation. Since June in Texas is quite hot, we chose the “standard” option. Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we were shown to the very hot and sticky patio area. We immediately informed the hostess that we had reserved indoor seating and were told that “standard” meant outdoor seating. This made absolutely no sense, but we tried to play along and tough it out. It immediately became clear to us that it was going to be miserably hot, and my husband was just three weeks removed from a stay in ICU, so we made another appeal to the staff. We had noticed empty tables inside so thought it would be an easy switch. We were immediately treated as if we were being untruthful and basically not worth their time, even though we produced documentation that clearly stated that we did not make an outdoor reservation. The staff member told us that the best she could do for us was to give us an inside table for one hour as there was another reservation after that time, and we would have to hurry so we were within that time frame. I explained that we were having a family celebration and really didn’t want to feel rushed, so she shrugged and left us to swelter in the heat. Rarely have I been treated by a wait staff with such a rude, dismissive attitude and at no point were we granted an apology. A simple apology and a bit of kindness would have gone a long way and perhaps made us more inclined to attempt to stick it out, but we felt extremely unwanted. We chose to leave and took our dining dollars to Chez Zee where we were treated to a lovely meal by people who actually seemed appreciate our business! What a novel concept! I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention that my future son-in-law gave Josephine House a call after our debacle, and inquired how to book an indoor table on Open Table. He was told to select the “standard” option and he would be guaranteed indoor seating. Right. They are a hot mess there in every sense and unless you enjoy being treated poorly, I would take my business elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyWould return for a break in typical local Tex-mex or BBQ options.
Great price for great food. Nice break from BBQ and Tex-Mex. Lover the pork schnitzel. Friendly staff. Great outdoor seating.

So disappointed! We ate at the bar in a freezing indoor instead of a sunny table outside which was supposed to be not available.
Be the first to Reply5 star breakfast ❤️ 3 star Dinner..... 🙄
This is an awesome restaurant for lunch or breakfast. I had the steak and eggs which was extremely delicious. 5 star breakfast all day. On Monday nights they have Steak night, 3 star experience. Although the steaks were good I didn't like FRENCH FRIES as my only option for a side. I'm willing to pay $60 + for a great steak but FRENCH FRIES go against my healthy choice meter. They serve complimentary wine with dinner....as much as you can drink, which is awesome but it gets crazy loud indoors so bring your party attitude on Mondays :) I love you Family ❤️ @NickeyDuke

The ingredients are good, but the seasoning… lacking. I guess they want to cook healthy, but a bit more garlic, onions or peppers wouldn’t hurt anyone. The prices are normal, for Austin. But if you know a bit of cooking, most likely you will do better yourself, and you would save your money. We had the steak, the snapper and the pasta. The alioli for the fries was the only thing we liked very much. Service is good and the place is pretty. Although they do have to clean the lamps in the dining room. They look moldy.

Sat outside, very cozy. Friendly service. Interesting menu with good variety of breakfast and lunch foods. The avocado toast was fantastic, with a fried egg on top. Fruit was very fresh. My chicken soup, with an Indian–like seasoning was delicious and filling. All seven in our party really enjoyed the meal. A bit pricey, but worth it.

Quaint spot in Clarksville , it was very hot outdoors so that distracted from the meal actually so pay attention when booking where u want to sit .. to be sure where you want to sit. Tiny little house. Parking is also tight in the neighborhood so we would take an Uber next time because it’s a bit. Of a walk for us..had the cucumber salad and snapper , lovely wine and my husband had forbidden rice chicken bowl . Food was all very tasty w nice portions , beautiful presentation and timely. Service dropped off at check time which was a bummer again because we were sooo hot and ready to go. Misters would probably help outdoors here
Be the first to ReplyGood meal but evicted early
Arrived on time for our reservation. Waited 25 min. Meal and service were very good until server collected our plates and said, "I would normally offer you dessert, but we have another reservation for this table at this time" and presented our check. Restaurant did not warn us of a time limit, and cut 25 minutes off our allowance on the front end. I appreciate the need to turn tables and avoid making folks wait, but I won't return because of this treatment.
Be the first to ReplyGood drinks, mediocre food
My red snapper fit the description and was tasty, but the hamburger had a very hot and spicy spread underneath that drowned the rest of the flavors. The so called NY strip steak was too greasy for its name and too expensive a dish for the mere French fries that accompanied it. And those fries tasted older than the ones served with the burger. The chardonnay and the cocktail were of a quality expected in a good restaurant. The "espresso" was tepid and tasted like Nescafe instant coffee. We didn't dare to order a dessert.

We visited this restaurant because it was supposed to be one of the best in Austin. First of all, there is very limited parking. The surrounding businesses and residential areas are very hostile and will not hesitate to get you towed. Some of the locals were in their yards just waiting to pounce on anyone parking in their neighborhood . The restaurant is small and understated. There is some nice outdoor furniture for seat in the yard. The service was ok, not special. The cheese board was the best thing that we tried. The red snapper was bland and tasted like it had been frozen. The pork chop had a nice glaze but the meat was bland and almost raw inside. The problem with all of this is the price point. This is one of the most expensive restaurants in Austin, but the atmosphere and quality of the food is not at the level you would expect at these prices

The perfect place for a Sunday brunch, everything I tasted was pretty amazing and the location is really beautiful
Be the first to ReplyValentine's Day treat
We enjoyed a pre-set menu for Valentine's Day. We sat inside and had an early setting with a view table.
It was lovely.
Okay but,
This was our first dine in experience since Covid became a thing.
We arrived on time with a reservation and were promptly seated outside in a social distanced location.
After a significant wait we ordered a house burger medium rare but not bleeding, a chopped chicken salad and a Huevos Racheros .
After a long wait we got our food and the salad and eggs were a hit. The burger on the other hand was quite bloody. Not my thing so a three review.
It also took quite some time to get a water refill and the check.
