Saw the middling reviews and expected little, but we loved our breakfast. I hadn't been here in over 20 years, and i don't think it's changed at all. Everyone should come here at least once to experience what diners used to be like.
Worse hash browns ever.
..,the fact that I almost had to ring the bell because I was trying to order and the waitresses kept walking past...super crowded around 10am
Early morning flights mean limited breakfast and coffee
Early morning flights mean limited breakfast and coffee options in the loop, so Lou Mitchell's was a lifesaver for me. Normally, the long line outside stops me from checking it out but thankfully most people aren't awake at 7am. Not super
The place is super cute and our waitress very friendly.
We were given dough not holes and Orange slices as all as we sat down. They were good but cold. I ordered an egg (cooked to perfection). On the side, I had bacon (which the menu states "crispy"). It was not. It was probably crispy 2 hours a

This place is a no frills diner that is about as good as good can get at an old school American breakfast place. Worth the experience with fantastic food and service! A Chicago Icon for good reason!!!

Lou Mitchell's has been a Chicago classic for years, and while the food is still decent, the place just isn't what it used to be. I came in for breakfast and had an omelet and pancakes--both were good, portions were generous, and service w
Delicious and crazy!
We hit the lunch rush on a Saturday, so it was packed and very loud. Almost uncomfortably loud, but oh my god did the food make it worth it. Despite a line out the door, we were sat within approx 15mins. Food was phenomenal. Get the omelete hobo skil
Lives up to the hype
I’d seen this place was a Chicago icon before I went and that was confirmed upon visiting. The whole ‘eggs for breakfast’ thing that Americans do always seemed strange – just have toast and cereal so you don’t have to cook/wash up that earl
Best breakfast ever!
Amazing omelettes! Huge in portion. The potatoes that come with it equally good. They served us very unique bread that you can buy a loaf of as well. Must visit in Chicago!
Excellent
Visiting from England we always want a American breakfast, Lou Mitchell’s didn’t disappoint, first class service and first class food
Disappointed
Just average; nothing special and will not return a 2nd time. I was most interested in their pancakes, but it was the most disappointing that I did not eat them, returning them. Pancakes tasted excessively artificial, out of a box. The omelette redee
Huge breakfast portions
Most of my family and I were in town recently to follow in the footsteps of Ferris Bueller and Cameron Frye and Sloane Peterson and look out over the city from the 103rd floor of Willis Tower, which was obviously known as Sears Tower back in the wond

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to Lou Mitchell's Chicago at 6 PM the same day.
He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the Lou Mitchell's Chicago page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.
That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.
Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.
Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* FluffyStar64, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's $200 bid.
* FluffyStar64 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to FluffyStar64 for any questions Peter may have as FluffyStar64 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* FluffyStar64 now uses their connections at Lou Mitchell's Chicago to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If FluffyStar64 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, FluffyStar64 receives the $200 reward which is credited to FluffyStar64's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Lou Mitchell's Chicago!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
