Moxie Restaurant Sacramento Reviews
I absolutely LOVED our dinner here at Moxie.
We ordered every appetizer on the menu including 2 that were not on the menu, but recommended by who I am assuming is the owner. Let's talk about service. I called to set reservations and they were very accommodating and kind. When I walked in, I was greeted warmly and seated right away. What I observed and loved was that the owner went to each table and was constantly making sure everyone in the establishment was happy/taken care of. He even gave us some chocolate desserts on the house. I can tell there is a love for food and creativity in the kitchen when it comes to this place. The lighting is romantic, candle lit. Food: portobello mushrooms were cooked perfectly and had good flavor, the Brussels sprouts Caesar was delicious--we couldn't stop talking about how simple, yet delicious it was because it wasn't the ordinary Caesar salad. The short ribs were too sweet for my taste buds, but they fell off the bone. The crab cakes were my absolute favorite. They were cooked perfectly and served with the best sauces to accompany the crab cake to make it feel like a different vibe with each bite. SO GOOD!! The grilled egg plant was delicious, like a caprese style. My second favorite of the evening was what I call the play on a shepards pie. It's like mini egg rolls with meat and veggies served ontop of mashed potatoes and gravy, it was Heavenly! For main entrees we got the ribeye steak (forgot a photo) which was cooked to perfection and the flavor profile was on point. Medium rare and came as just that--perfectly. The chicken Parmesan was delicious as well. I recommend visiting this restaurant if you haven't already. I will definitely be a frequent visitor here. For desserts we got the creme brรปlรฉe-- it was amazing. Some places lack flavor in the actual dessert, but it was so delicious! The chocolate cake was a dark chocolate and a bit too rich for me (however it was not dry cake). GREAT JOB MOXIE! You have made me happy and hopeful for the foodie scene here in Sacramento once again.
The short rib appetizer was amazing.
They have so many different appetizer, meat and fish specials that are off menu. I got the Chilean sea bass and my friend got the halibut, both were off the charts. It is a smaller restaurant with a handful of tables so it is quiet and not too crowded. Best to call ahead of time. The service was spectacular. Definitely up there in one of my new favorite restaurants
We went for our anniversary dinner and it was amazing.
The owner was a charmer and the service top tier. Our food was delicious, prompt and plates beautifully. It is a perfect date night restaurant. We will be making this a regular place for us.
my wife and i just discovered moxies.
it's hands down our new favorite restaurant. the food; the ambiance; the service, all are exquisite. thank you adam for a lovely dinner and evening!
A tucked away hidden gem.
The service is outstanding, the food incredible and the vibe is cozy. Don't be scared by the menu they present you with. The specials are where it's at. We had the mushroom appetizer, which was to die for, the sea bass and the halibut. Every bite was slap your brain heavenly. Will definitely be back!
Best salmon I've ever had in my life.
Owner is quite entertaining! Setting is dark and cozy. We'll be back.
Dined here a few years back.
Ambience was magical food was succulent and wine pairing hit the spot.

We love it here! Adam, the owner, is the cherry on top of the whole experience. He's funny, witty, entertaining and to top it off - handsome! The food is delicious. The filet mignon appetizer melts in your mouth with the phyllo dough and delicious gravy (?). Crab cakes come with a delicious variety of sauces and the main dishes were great as well. Drinks were quick, and replenished as often as we liked. I can't say enough good things.
The best Salmon dish in Sac hands down.
A must date night at least 2 times. Very intimate setting.

Over the years, I have always found Moxies a great experience. Great cuisine and presentation. Small but comfortable and intimate. I look forward to coming again.

Upon walking in you are greeting with a warm ambiance and welcoming staff. It is the perfect date spot, the service is very personal and the food and drinks are phenomenal. Every single dish exceeded expectations. Their carrot cake is the best carrot cake I have ever had, my boyfriend and I cannot wait to come back.
This place is classic in food, decor, and ambience.
The service is outstanding - very friendly and attentive. As you've probably read from all the reviews, they read out the "specials" to you verbally in addition to their printed menu. We visited once a while back (like years ago) and again recently and I don't think the specials changed that much at all. Maybe the type of fish changes? But other than that - pretty standard stuff. The items we had were very well prepared though! The lamb was very tender and the fish perfectly cooked :) The big downside for me is that every main dish comes with the same sides (they're clearly not pairing the dish with complementary sides), and the sides are not very good. The cabbage side dish is horribly sweet. Maybe that flies with some folks, but it's not for the modern palate. And then there are barely cooked baby carrots with no sauce on them. Very old school and not appetizing. I appreciate the charm, but as foodies it's not somewhere we'll visit more than once every few years.
Awesome experience service and food our special occasion
Awesome experience service and food our special occasion spot Adam and Lyle are great the best lamb in town
We decided to try Moxie for our anniversary after reading
We decided to try Moxie for our anniversary after reading reviews, it was a great decision. The service was impeccable with all of our courses perfectly timed and needs taken care of before we had to ask. I ordered the seared scallop and prawn special, and wow. The scallops were perfectly cooked. They were soft and buttery. The mashed potatoes were decadent. My husband ordered the lamb loin. Lamb isn't the first thing I would order, but honestly I didn't know which dish I liked better! The lamb loin was so tender, breaking apart in your mouth. We have definitely found a new date spot in Sacramento. Highly recommend!
I had a ribeye for $54.
It was alright. We also had a lamb loin, dull and boring flavor. The tiny slivers of chocolate cake was unremarkable as well. Adam the owner/server rubbed me the wrong way. Am I supposed to tip the owner? $165 dinner for 2 with tip and no booze! Whoa! Maybe Adam thinks his attitude it cute, I don't . I'm not going back any time soon...

This place never disappoints!!! Have been going here for years and tonight we share the experience with our adult children. They loved it. The service is "stellar" and an "experience" to have. The food is cooked to order and perfection is an understatement! Make a reservation, it is well known. The lighting to the entire layout makes for an intimate evening to remember rather with your spouse and or your family.
Just no.
Horrible customer service and food. We made reservations weeks in advance for our 30th anniversary. Zero care, going through the motions. Insult of the day, they sat a loud four top right next to us when they could have seated them elsewhere. The place was completely empty. We had to listen to some loudmouth vomit her life, loudly. We have been here before and not great then. It's been 10 years since we've been here and thank you for reinforcing why.
We went to this place recommended by good friends and it
We went to this place recommended by good friends and it was fantastic! The owner was there and was VERY passionate about each dish and is very knowledgeable about wine pairings. I would highly recommended this place for a solid date or with friends!
I have been to Moxie's before.
The wonderful service and the custom menu with more dishes than you can shake a stick at. One would think that as the restaurant matures it would become a better version of itself, but no. I had forgotten the long recitations of the specials that no one can actually remember. The food is still delicious, but the hautiness got old after a while. The owner dancing about the tables was charming before, but has gotten a bit old. The hand written illegible check was also a bit of an annoyance. Some ones dared asked for the price of a dish and was quickly rebuffed. The food is still good but as I have gotten older I have grown tired of the 1940's Rack Pack vibe of the place..
The food was beyond amazing.
.. the presentation of food was top tier. .... But the real stars of the show is the staff... such a great experience
A hidden treasure
This restaurant is a hidden gem. Itโs like a little bit of New York with wonderful atmosphere. The liver and onions is the best
This is a hidden gem.
Moxie offers a very intimate setting with excellent food and service. My wife and I went to Moxie's last night for the first time for our anniversary. Adam and staff and very detail and service oriented. Adam relayed all of the specials to us and made great suggestions as well as offering to split up our appetizers. Our glasses were kept full and course timing was terrific. The crab cakes were delicious. The sauces offer a tangy spice and sweetness to the dish. The Caprese salad was well done. My wife got the sea scallops and I ordered the seafood pasta at Adam's suggestion. My wife's scallops were cooked perfectly and my seafood pasta was quite flavorful. It wasn't drown in any heavy or overly rich sauces so I was able to taste every different bit of seafood as well as the pasta. We finished our meal with the lemon chiffon cake and crรจme brรปlรฉe. The cake was light and very flavorful. The crรจme brรปlรฉe was one of the creamiest and best tasting we've eaten. Adam also brought us a nice, hot chocolate shot to finish off our anniversary dinner. The experience was excellent. The food and service were top notch. The price of our meal was on par for what I expected and what we got. We'll definitely be back as it is well worth the hour drive to get there.
Certainly the most special experience you will ever have in
Certainly the most special experience you will ever have in a boutique restaurant. The food is beyond explainable. Don't get caught up on the main menu. Although exquisite, the specials are the big surprise. Adam and the staff are so much fun and are an intricate part of the experience. If you want to have a special time with your significant other, this is a must on the list.
Moxie will always be special to me as someone who grew up
Moxie will always be special to me as someone who grew up in the hospitality industry. Moxie is small, but mighty. The owner is incredible and almost always serves my table. As someone in this industry, I always thought it was interesting that they served so many different dishes with such a limited amount of seating and days open a week. Myself being inquisitive, I of course to asked the owner, and he had just explain that he built a relationship with his vendors along time ago, and he is able to get fresh ingredients in smaller quantities. This right here is so important because it shows that he cares about building relationships, and it translates into his food. Everything I have tried there is divine and their wine menu is amazing as well. Going to Moxie is a treat for me and I am always happy to see it full!
So sad and disappointed.
I'll start by saying I have been to Moxie before and had a wonderful experience, this was at least 7 years ago maybe more.I called to make a reservation for my Fiance's Birthday. I called on a Monday, I understand they do not open until Thursday. A VM from Adam greeted me and instructed me to leave a message with my reservation information and they would call back. I did as instructed. Tuesday I missed a call from Adam telling me I had the wrong number and to call back the restaurant. Baffled I went back and searched the number shown on line on several food sites (since the restaurant does not have a website) Every where i looked showed the number 916-443-7585. I called back left another message. AT this point I'm not upset just confused. Thursday finally Adam and I connect in live time via phone. He promptly begins being snappy with me about the number I'd called again. I told him the number I called, and he said "you must have pressed a wrong number". How is this possible if I'm getting greeted by Adam "Thank you for calling Moxie" on the VM. I'm not sure if he has this answering service going to his personal phone but he continued to yell at me about it. Finally he yelled "whatever it doesn't matter what day do you want to book" So I politely declined moving forward with my booking, to which he said "no problem" and hung up on me. The experience left me in shock and not something I'll forget anytime soon. Sad and disappointed is how I sum it up. I won't be back.
I hate doing this.
I really do. I was charmed by this restaurant a year and a half ago and returned tonight with happy memories. The experience tonight was pretty damn awful. The service was ok, but the food was really, really, really bad. The appetizer, a phillo wrapped filet mignon was lackluster at best, and was more like ground turkey. The ribeye with blue cheese was a huge, sloppy, bland mess of a plate with some sad carrots on the side that had no preparation to them. My partner's filet mignon and prawns were over cooked and bleh. Overall no seasoning on the food. Perhaps they are accustomed to an old demographic? The cocktails were ok. You know what was bomb though? The butter! Some bread and butter was served and the butter was the star of the evening. We'll not be back though, because we can have nice bread and butter and home. For a ton less expensive.

Truly a delightful experience! Visited on a Friday night as an early valentines dinner and the owner Adam was very attentive. The food was sooo delicious! Definitely try the Filet Mignon, Jambalaya, and Ribeye. We will definitely be back to this hidden gem in Sacramento.
I was greeted by the owner as i walked in.
He was discourteous when i asked to sit at the bar. He told me since covid they can't serve food at the bar. So i said okI will take a seat.He said you task meWtf?He seated me in the very back and told me next time to make reservations and he would buy new shoes.Trying to engage him as a human being and a man i saidWhat's your nameAnd he said James BondThen after a pause asked me my name.i said James. When reviewing all the specials which were extensive i asked the price of the salmon. He said nobody ever asks that. Wtf?When i left, I told him i would never be back and he said you break my heart! The fish was well prepared but a bit overdoneThe veggies were deprived of all flavor and zest by punishment of overcooking. The carrot cake was amazing!Even though i live two blocks away i will never be back
This is one of our favorite places to go.
Adam is so funny and friendly. The food is amazing. We have ordered several things over the years and everything is great. Salmon, maybe our favorite. You can't go wrong dining here. I highly recommend it. The only problem, it's a bit of a drive for us, but worth it.

We came here to celebrate a special ocassion for our family and based on the good reviews we chose this restaurant. My husband made the reservation, and when we arrive the place was intimidating for us, but the Adam made us feel welcomed and sat us right away. The staff was friendly, and helpful. Food courses came out on time. I loved the romantic atmosphere, music was not too loud. We were not impressed with the food, it is fresh, but lacking of flavors. Based on the reviews we were not sure if we had a bad night. I ordered seafood pasta and it came with fresh herbs, shrimp and fish... I was hoping to get more seafood variety on it.

My friend decided to come here for her birthday, so we had a double date. We walked in everything was very romantic with the lights dimmed . The tables were set up, very cute with a little candle in the middle . It reminded me of a cute Italian restaurant, but the only thing it's not an Italian restaurant it's American. I believe everything was pretty clean and organized. We got greeted by the owner which he will be talking to you through the night. The menu only has certain options in it. The owner came back and told us a whole lot of specials that are not in the menu. I guess some people may like that he does that but, I would prefer to read it off the menu so I could really know what I want to get. It could be hard to remember everything he says, which is a lot. Another thing you don't know the prices of the things he's offering you verbally. The food was very delicious ! I enjoyed the food a lot. The dessert was very good as well. The drinks I ordered they were ok . There is no cocktail menu but if you tell the waiter, he will let you know what they have to offer. The food was very delicious. Overall, the food was good. I think there's other places I could go or I could spend the same amount of money and maybe get a little bit more fine dinning . But its worth to check out, it was definitely an experience and it could be cute for a date night.
this was the best dinner and service I've had in
this was the best dinner and service I've had in Sacramento! I'll definitely be returning!
Excellent service, food, and ambiance!
This restaurant was excellent! Small restaurant with great ambiance. Owner is wonderfulโฆ professional with a sense of humor. He comes to your table and tells you the extensive menu. The food was out of this world! We had crab cakes, caprese salad, crusted salmon, rib eye, and key lime pie!
