Muriel's Jackson Square New Orleans Reviews from The Last Year
Muriels Jackson Square's atmosphere was warm and inviting.
The service was friendly, though occasionally semi-attentive, but it didn't overshadow the wonderful food. The shrimp and grits were an absolute must-try--perfectly cooked shrimp nestled in creamy, flavorful grits that were simply mouthwatering. The bread for the table was fresh and delicious, making for a fantastic start to our meal.

Wow! Amazing and delicious Cajun Food, it's located in the heart of New Orleans off of Jackson Square! The service is impeccable and the Shrimp and Grits were excellent! The ambiance was delightful and we didn't witness any ghosts!!!! Enjoy!

The bayoubase was to die for! Splurge and add the crawfish tale. Escargots was the best I have ever had!
A classy New Orleans restaurant with a great menu!
The ONLY reason it isn’t a 5 is because of the treatment by the hosts upon arrival. Having come from the famous Cafe Du Monde with a coffee, the hostess made three comments how outside drinks were not allowed. Made for a poor introduction to a business of this class. That being said, the server was awesome, the interior and atmosphere New Orleans, upper scale and the food was delicious. The menu had a three course option that was very reasonable at $54 and included shrimp/ Goat cheese crepes, a crusted black drum fish entree and a dark chocolate, pecan crusted dessert. I wasn’t a fan of the way their old fashion drinks were prepared, therefore ask before you order!

Hands down love this place! The three course menu is a must! Gumbo was alright but the shrimp and grits and bread pudding spot on and delicious Drinks are solid and ambience is incredible with different rooms and balcony option. Bonus a ghost. Now if that's not New Orleanian I don't know what is. Service was amazing especially Lynsey who went above and beyond to share the history with me. Can't believe I lived here for years and it took moving away to get me to come.
Really gorgeous restaurant right off of Jackson Square.
Pretty amazing history as well as having a spooky story about a ghost who never left and has a table set for him every night. We went around the holidays so it was decorated beautifully for Christmas. I don't think I had any bad food the entire time I was in the French Quarter. Muriel's was no exception and was absolutely divine. I will definitely be back when I visit again.
Service was good.
Food was medicine. Pecan crusted drum was overcooked. Can't fix that.

The restaurant has impeccable service and the food was great. We loved that we could just pop in while we were wandering around the French Quarter.

We've been coming to New Orleans for over 35 years and this was only our second time to Muriels. Was recommended to us from a bartender friend last August. We went then and had the $50 three course dinner. The goat cheese and shrimp crepes and gumbo were most excellent. I had the pecan crusted fish and hubby had the pork chop. Both, along with our desserts, were wonderful. Service was great and liked the total experience -- gave a 5-star rating. The trip on April 30th was not a repeat of our August experience. Tried the $50 three course dinner again and ended up ordering the same things. The crepes were the same --yummy and rich. My fish was over-cooked and dry and the crust too crusted, almost blackened. Not much sauce on it. My husbands pork chop was not cooked as well as the August trip, either. When they first sat us, we were seated by a large loud table so asked to me moved, which seemed to take an act of congress for approval. In the second dining room, it wasn't loud when we were seated but into the meal the noise from customers became unbearable and irritating that we asked to take our desserts to go as we were not enjoying our time. The service wasn't as good as last trip either. I realize restaurants do have their off nights but not sure if we'll go back. There are so many other wonderful restaurants in town.
The food was absolutely amazing.
We sat at the ghost table. Don't sit there if you expect quick service. But the experience was fun. Try the drum fish it is the best.

We just had dinner there this evening! Service was fabulous! Food was amazing! Incredible ambiance, and a great cocktail menu! The upstairs seance lounges were so cool and beautiful. Additionally, due to a bad hip and back, we rented a mobility scooter for my wife to get around easier. It was parked just outside and all of a sudden the rain came down hard and it got wet! The manager ( I think?) was kind enough to get us towels and even helped wipe it off!
Absolutely Gorgeous Food
We opted for their three course set menu which was 49.95. There were good choices on it. Everything we had was superb, the gumbo, the shrimp and grits, the roasted chicken, both desserts. Top notch. Good vibe, busy but we did get a table as a walk in without any bother.
Perfect first night dinner in NOLA
We chose this restaurant for our first night in NOLA based on recommendations & reviews. So glad we did! We were immediately escorted to our table when we arrived for our reservation even a bit early. Hosts and servers were all extremely pleasant and hospitable. My husband & I both took advantage of the 3 course special. My goat cheese & shrimp crepes and pecan crusted drum were outstanding! My husband enjoyed his gumbo and shrimp & grits very much as well. The suggested wine pairings matched perfectly. All topped off with vanilla crème brûlée for a perfect meal in a beautiful setting!
Excellent Service
Stopped in for a late night dessert a s wanted to see the Ghost Table and Seance Lounge. Unfortunately there was a private party so we couldn't see the Lounge but our fabulous waiter took us behind the closed door to see the table. The staff was fantastic and our desserts were delicious. Thank you for the great service and letting us sneak in to see the Ghost Table.
Great Food, Beautiful Dining Room and a Ghost Story
I had the opportunity to eat here twice during my recent visit to NOLA. The first time was with a work conference where we have nearly 100 people and had the entire second floor for our group. We passed the ghost table setting and proceeded up the stairs, greeted by waiters offering glasses of wine and spent a few minutes on the balcony overlooking Jackson Square as the sun was setting. Gorgeous lighting in and outside the building. The goat cheese and crawfish appetizer was excellent. We had the filet and redfish entree that was created for our group - excellent. The second time was a few days later when I visited with my husband. I had the crepes again (excellent). The service was super! My French 75 was a bit too sour for me, but everything else was so good. Out of all the places we dined, this was his favorite. We also went to Court of Two Sisters, Arnaud’s and Antoine’s.
Could not have asked for a nicer place to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary
So glad our hotel indicated Muriel J as the BEST of 3 I’d made OpenTable reservations at while in NO to celebrate. 4 individuals, our server TWICE, thought to say “Happy Anniversary” which, when genuine, has determined (local) restaurants we’ll never give a second-chance at such special occasions. Our waiter-pair, Jimmy & Kevin could not have been more efficient and pleasant. The 3-dish fixed price menu was so attractive we both splurged on it. Porkchops, 1/2 chicken, a creative pepper appetizer, and the chocolate pecan tart were all wonderful. Had not expected the celebratory bread pudding with candle, but Jimmy was kind enough to bring a to-go container, and it was great the next morning for breakfast with hotel coffee😉. The atmosphere here is truly European and classy, but it is the staff that sets this place worlds apart from the other to fine dining places we went to while in New Orleans.
Warm welcoming elegance and delicious dinner
Elegant and welcoming restaurant on historic Jackson Square in NOLA. The choices for fine dining are endless in New Orleans but Muriel’s is one of the top choices. Beautifully appointed without being snooty- the best kind of service.
Great dinner!
This was my second time dining at Muriel's. My first time was 10 years ago. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and only waited a couple minutes before we were escorted to our table. The host and servers were inviting and very friendly. We opted to do the pre-fixe menu (three course meal). We had the seafood gumbo, turtle soup, shrimp and grits, pecan crusted drum, bread pudding and chocolate pecan tart. Everything was delicious! Rich and decadent in flavors. It was our favorite dinner of our whole trip. Muriel's was worth the price.
An institution with an overrated reputation
Air conditioning much too strong which was reduced at our request. Not very attentive, not very friendly service. Dishes prepared with good products but not offering remarkable flavor combinations. Good traditional desserts. Interesting choice of bottled wines. But we waited too long for the bottle. Very noisy room due, in particular, to the number of tables.
Frustrated and grumpy staff- decent food but touristy
I normally love Muriel’s- wonderful history and food. This visit wasn’t the best- the staff was a bit rushed and didn’t seem pleased to be there. We did get seated at the correct time but felt like a burden to our server. She wasn’t friendly and didn’t really tell us anything about the menu. The staff slammed the plates down on the table and the shrimp and grits weren’t impressive for New Orleans. Do not ask to split checks- the staff gets angry.
