An fantastic place for freshly made authentic Italian
An fantastic place for freshly made authentic Italian food Pros - phenomenal selection of freshly homemade Italian pasta. The agnolotti was fantastic. Their focaccia bread was also so fluff and deliciously seasoned. Very friendly service. Beautiful interior with modern contemporary style. Cons - none! A great place for an authentic Italian dinner.

April 2024 update: very sadly and unfortunately downgrading savio volpe to 3 stars. I made a reservation for 5 people and opted for the tasting menu for my brothers birthday celebration. The server was impeccable but the actual food and timeliness was questionable. Evening started great. Sparkling water and a bottle of red wine to start. 7:09pm, we get a beautiful plate of charcuterie, a deep fried pork appetizer and two bowls of kale salad promptly. Not bad and pretty good. Kale salad was a little bland - just tasted like salt but it was fine for salad. That's when our experience soured. We waited ONE HOUR for the next round of food to arrive. This, to me, is unacceptable. We were starving and our server could only keep refilling our water ... 8:11pm rolls around. We get risotto and two bowls of pasta. Portions were quite small for 5 people and we waited an HOUR. The long swirly pasta dish with capers was just so mediocre and bland. The tagliatelle, however, was the star. The redeeming part of our dinner... Now we wait again. 30 more minutes. Finally, main main entree at 8:40pm. Finally, steak, chicken, potatoes, broccolini. These all tasted good by the way, but at this point we were just miffed by the late timing. And at last, dessert. We just wanted to leave at this point. 9:25pm, tiramisu and cannoli. Tasted great by the way. Loved the airiness and flavors. Overall... I don't think I would do the tasting menu again. Quite disappointed. I would only order the tagliatelle and broccolini and call it an evening.
An excellent Italian cucina with a distinctly BC twist.
Ended up at Osteria Savio Volpe because we couldnโt find another restaurantโฆ. great luck! They fitted us, unbooked, into an already busy restaurant at 17:00 and we had a superb meal. The service and ambiance were excellent but the food was outstanding. We shared an anti pasto and beet salad to start and both had the tagliatelle with a pork ragu to follow. All magnificentโฆ the homemade mortadella was really good but to pick out one item does a disservice to the rest of the meal which was consistently fine. A lovely eveningโฆ
I had high expectations due to the raving reviews I read
I had high expectations due to the raving reviews I read but my actual experience fell short. There was nothing terrible but overall things felt a bit off. I made a reservation for two in the dining room at 5pm and the confirmation mentioned that cancelling from 1pm onwards on the day I reserved would incur a fee of CAD$25 per person. Well, I did show up and they opened their door slightly after 5pm. It was nice that they have a coat room. There were many service crew members. Some I liked more than others but overall the vibes I got were a tad self-important and aloof. The kale salad was tasty and plentiful. I appreciate that the saffron pasta was freshly made with a rich sauce. For the price point though, I expected either bigger or more shrimps. This place is not a must visit in my view but feel free to try for yourself.
Service was excellent.
Haven't been here since they first opened. It was very busy for a Wednesday night. The saffron linguini was outstanding . The flavours were so amazing. Haven't had such a good pasta in a long time. Could have had another pasta dish. The kingfish crudo was a very small portion for the price. The pork belly was good but not as tender as expected. Overall a great meal . I think their pastas are outstanding. Would stick to those. The service was top notch.
Great food
It can be hard to get a reservation for a table at prime time, so late dinner at the bar it is. We had their daily pasta special, beet salad, steak and brocollini. It was all super delicious.
Great food and service.
Had the broccolini, arancini, pork belly, and canestri. Our server, Ryan, was fantastic. Only complaint is that the canestri dish was too salty for our taste.
Very nice ambiance and the food was excellent just like we
Very nice ambiance and the food was excellent just like we remembered from last time. The server was funny and personable which made the experience more fun. I highly recommend this place!!
At least at Olive Garden they say Thank You!!
This restaurant takes its glowing reviews and its customers for granted. We were two, with a reservation and sat at the bar because โquirkyโ apparently means tiny and uncomfortable for tables. Pushy staff turned inattentive and unapologetically rude who couldnโt even be bothered to ask how the meal was (fatty, tasteless pork belly and momโs bowl of pastaโฆassuming mom cooked it yesterday and warmed it in the microwave) and then didnโt even thank us for coming and spending too much for food that makes Olive Garden look authentic.

Amazing food and service can be found at Savio Volpe! The pasta was absolutely divine but the star of the show was the pork belly dish that came with scallops. The pork belly and scallops were cooked to perfection and the apple sauce it came with paired with it wonderfully. Highly recommend!
Expensive for what you get.
Not a huge menu. But that said the food was good. Essentially the cannolis.
Best restaurant in all of Vancouver.
Quality food without the typical pretentiousness of other high end restaurants.
Securing reservation in here require some dedication for
Securing reservation in here require some dedication for sure, however it was worth it for the pasta alone. We got 4 items, plus a nice Sangiovese to share. Their menu changes seasonally so I won't be covering each dishes. I would say that the highlights are definitely the pasta and cheese based items. Also, kudos for their wine list, some of the best I've seen in Vancouver (particularly for Italian based ones ofc). Prices came out to over $100/pax. Things we ordered: 1. Whipped ricotta crostini, concord grapes, caramelised honey, pine nuts, focaccia ($24) 2. Tortelli di Zucca, parmigiano reggiano, pumpkin seeds, brown butter ($32) 3. Tagliatelle alla bolognese, parmiggiano reggiano, Volpi olive oil ($34) 4. Cannoli ($20) Place was casual with pretty packed tables and loud conversations happening. Imo there's not enough distance between the tables. Atmosphere was therefore a bit too noisy imo but could be personal preference. Service was on point and the server gave good recommendation based on your preference without being pushy.
Great food and atmosphere, quirky in a good way
While the details are somewhat blurry due to the pre-dinner cocktails, I do remember that the waiter looked exactly like a young William Gibson (who was also from Vancouver) and the food was great and different from other restaurants, but in a good way. It was busy, and apparently not easy to get a reservation (my cool friend snagged us one) but the vibe is very laid back somehow. Plus, the restaurantโs name means Wise Fox, whatโs not to like?
An excellent choice. Food is delicious and very fresh.
An absolute great dining experience! Service was attentive and fast. We tried seven different dishes and they were all delicious and so very creative (without being pretentious). I wish we had a place like this in Montreal!
Left disappointed and hungry
I will preface my review by saying that my fiancรฉe and I have eaten at some amazing restaurants (think Le Bernardin, Saison, Atomix, Acquerello, St. Lawrence, Annalena, Sushi Jin, Miku, Singlethread, Fanny Bay Oyster Bar, Masayoshi, the Botanist, etc). We came across Savio Volpe on instagram a few weeks ago and weโre impressed by the look of the pasta dishes, the amount of followers, and the 4.6 average review on Google. We decided to try them for the first time last night. Immediate impression: There are way too many tables crammed into the space. This really takes away from the ambiance and attentiveness servers should have towards each customer (timeliness for ordering, clearing old plates, filling water). It was quite loud. I immediately thought this isnโt the place for couples/date night. That being said, our server was polite. We were torn between the a la carte menu or ordering the set โlet us cook for youโ (set menu) for $79. We asked our server what she would recommend. Without hesitation she advised to try the set tasting menu, suggesting that the majority of the tables were ordering the same. We are adventurous with food but appreciated the server confirming our tastes/preferences (are you okay with beef tongue, olives, raw fish, etc). I was looking forward to trying some very unique dishes. Drink menu: Very spirit heavy cocktails - mainly negronis or gin. Personally I didnโt immediately see any cocktail I would typically enjoy. It would be nice to have more common drink options (French 75, limoncelloโฆ) something lighter/fruity. The wine list was good. Olives were the first small dish we were given. Average to poor. The majority of the olives were not even ripe to eat. We did not finish them. Second dish (watermelon salad) was pretty but a little odd. I didnโt care for the combination of flavours. I felt like we were eating a filler dish so we stopped; wanting to save room for the โgood stuffโ we came to try (pasta). The portion size was too large. The next dish was beef tongue and it was good. Looking back this was the only dish I didnโt mind. Itโs actually very light (despite to what you might think). Next dish was pasta pearls (I believe?) and mussels. On first bite the flavours were just okay. I maybe had 3-4 bites and quickly realized how acidic the dish was. At this point I was starving and quickly realized we may have made a mistake opting for the tasting menu. The mussels were slightly fishy. After a few bites we stopped eating it. Our server noticed and asked for feedback which we provided. She ensured us she would bring another option for us. Next dish was the striploin. On first appearance it looked great. We were extremely hungry at this point so I immediately cut into the steak. On the first cut, then taste, our mood immediately dropped and we knew we should have gone elsewhere for dinner. The steak (which the server confirmed would be cooked medium rare) was over cooked on one side. My piece was extremely tough to chew. My fiancรฉes steak was cooked slightly better (with some fat on it which made it palatable), but overall we knew we could have cooked a better steak at home. The side dish (grilled broccolini) served was just that - grilled broccolini. No salt, no butter, no flavour. It was also poorly cooked and difficult to cut. We did not eat it. The knifes either need to be sharpened or replaced. I ate the portion of my steak that wasnโt over cooked simply out of hunger. By the time we โfinishedโ this plate the alternative for the pasta/mussel dish came (the Cappelletti). We learned it was a favourite of another server who we spoke to after our experience. We were very disappointed at this point but decided to give it a try (as it looked presentable). On first bite, I knew it was the last chance we was giving this menu. We felt defeated with Savio Volpe as a whole. The noodles were similar to udon noodles which did not make sense. It was starchy with very basic flavours, at best. To be completely and utterly honest: the first thing I said to my fiancรฉe was it this tasted like a child made it. At this point we asked for our table to be cleared and the bill. We did not stay for the remaining dishes or dessert. Another server asked for feedback and my fiancรฉe provided some, but to be honest we just wanted to leave. They dropped a few things off the bill; however, we still left paying $300 (albeit we ordered a $130 bottle of wine). We left hungry and disappointed. The quality was simply not there and felt like it was a waste of our money. Another observation we made, is that many of the tables had unfinished plates (set menu and a la carte). So it makes me think that our poor experience wasnโt based on choosing the set menu. I have no idea if it was a bad night or not. Iโm very confused as to why this restaurant has so many glowing reviews. If youโre looking for a new experience and want to go with a set menu, spend $30 dollars more and go to CONSISTENTLY amazing places like St.Lawrence or Annalena for their set tasting menus. Or anywhere else, for that matter. There is a plethora of restaurants you can try that are cheaper and better quality that what we were served last night. The only thing we truly enjoyed was the wine. There would have to be some serious changes for us to even consider returning.
Everything was outstanding
We were staying in Downtown Vancouver so we had to venture off the beaten path for Savio Volpe. We were so delight that we took the time to head to Chef Andrea Alridge's restaurant. Service provided by Simon was super. He made great recommendations to help us though the menu that was filled with exceptional dishes. We loved everything we order including the focaccia bread, prosciutto diparma, and two pasta dishes. This is a restaurant worth returning to on a regular basis, unfortunately we live in San Francisco.
Italian fare at its finest
Energetic and vibrant place to enjoy great food, great service, large wine selection of Italyโs best. Lisa the sommelier who was very knowledgeable beyond her years was most helpful and ensured we would have a fantastic night. Michelin should have given this at least a one star not an honourable mention. You will not be disappointed.
Pricey But Wonderful
Delicious food and drink in a lively atmosphere. You get what you pay for. It's pricey place but the service is great and the food is even better.
Thank you, Rob:)
We absolutely loved Savio Volpe for the warm welcome, bright contemporary room, friendly and knowledgeable service and truly imaginative, delicious food. Our charming server Rob suggested we order the five-course service famiglia which was spot on. After determining our likes and dislikes, he chose the dishes and wine and set the pace. Our meal was exceptional in every sense and we look forward to returning for more.
Excellent food, not so excellent service
The food 100%, the ambiance 100%, the serviceโฆ..not so perfect. I am writing this review because I am very disappointed about the way the staff, especially our waiter ASSUMED that our group was going to have the โfamily mealโ. We had just arrived at the restaurant and the waiter immediately said that the family meal would work well since we were a larger group (more than 5 people). He left, then I asked to see a menu. He gave us ONE menu to look at. I told him that we will discuss first with the rest of the family on what we would like to do. I have been to Savio Volpe at least 5x, experienced the family meal menu and it was awesome. Our group however was leaning on ordering a-la carte this time. After maybe 10-15 minutes there was a dish being served at the table. We all looked surprised and told the server (not our waiter) that we didnโt order this dish. She replied saying that itโs a part of the family menu. We were all so shocked and told her that we hadnโt decided yet. Anyways, long story short we went ahead with it since they started preparing the dishes. The waiter didnโt even come to clarify or anything. It really bothers to me about this attitude when dining at restaurants in Vancouver. After this, Iโm not sure if I will be returning to Savio Volpe. We paid over $800 for our meal when we didnโt have to, but felt bad if we didnโt proceed with the ASSUMED menu that was literally pushed upon us. Shame on you Savio. Please educate your staff not to make assumptions about your guests. We obviously can afford to eat at your restaurant so donโt try and push $80 per person menus on us.
EXCEPTIONAL
Wonderful food and exceptional service from Rob. We had the Dine A La Familia ๐ค๐ค All the 5 courses were great and we even got a bonus course because Rob was such a legend of a waiter. The highlight for me was the cannoli ๐ค๐ค I will be dreaming about that for weeks
Would come here every week if possible!
I have been to Osteria Savio Volpe several times and NEVER disappointed, If I was forced at gunpoint to say one bad thing about it, it would be the level of noise when it is busy....and it's ALWAY busy. One evening, we had a table of 6 people from the midwest US that were basically screaming above the crowd, seated right next to us. When they left, we felt like we had ascended to heaven. So that is all in the way of negativity I can find with this place. Now for the amazing, palette-popping food, this place is a cut above the rest. We always choose the chef's selection of 5 courses and it never gets old. This carefree way of ordering allows you to enjoy the time with your guests without having to bury your head in a menu for way too long. Just a few short questions from the excellent wait staff and off you go. The pastas are fresh and flavourful, the meats cooked perfectly and the deserts each compete with each other for the best part of the meal. The apple salad appetizer is a MUST with an amazing combination of apples, aged cheddar and fresh herbs. It's an increadible way to cleanse your palette even before getting into the thick of it. From cocktails to desert, and aside from a slightly higher noise level than I would have liked, this place is an incredible experience.
Stellar
4 colleagues and I dined family style and although we had a complex array of dietary restrictions the incomprable Simon curated a beautiful meal for us. Many diverse dishes all with complexity and deliciousness we will long remember. The service puts this dining option into the 5 star realm - every team member constributes and it makes for a memorable evening. Grazie Mille.
Simple but soulful
Savio Volpe serves a menu of simple but soulful Italian dishes made with fresh regionally-sourced ingredients. Make sure to order at least one pasta dish when you visit and end the meal with their decadent chocolate tart!
Not worth the price
My friend and I went to Osteria Savio for the first time last evening. Hard to get reservations so they were made weeks in advance and we were excited to try out this restaurant. The quality of food is good but very overpriced. My friend had a glass of wine which he said was not good. The restaurant is very noisy and loud and you have to almost shout to have a conversation. The seating arrangement is very crowded with tables very close to one another; you are almost dining with other people. The service was also very slow as we waited a long time before being served. For a dining experience to be memorable food, atmosphere and service has to be excellent and this restaurant falls short on these parameters.
Huge Disappointment!
As a guest of a dear friend I had so looked forward to our meal together, unfortunately my optimism was misplaced. The quality of the food ranged from a risotto that was more like porridge (which was replaced by attentive staff) and burnt cabbage with mushy salmon that was neither cooked nor adequately charred, just burned black with an offensive taste. The final insult was a lovely chocolate torte spoilt with the addition of olive oil! the redeeming feature of a spoiled evening was the charming young woman that was our server who seemed equally embarrassed with the poor quality of our food. My last meal in Vancouver before returning to the UK was indeed memorable but for the wrong reasons.
AMAZING
The only problem I have with Osteria Savio Volpe is getting a reservation, it's busy. After going last night I understand why. The food is on another level for Vancouver. Had heard many accolades about the menu and service but experiencing it first hand was sublime. From the Focaccia Bread to the Kale Salad to the spicy Rigatoni to the Canestri alla Genovese and of course the meatballs. WOW! Did I mention the service which was very good. Bottom line if you enjoy really good food and attentive service this is a must.go.
Excellent fresh pasta
All dishes tried were quite delicious although I feel the cappelletti needed a bit more pepper. Service was so so and the space somewhat loud. The tiramisu was likely the best I have tried in a long time. Prices were high, so a point deduction.
