Suraya Restaurant Philadelphia Reviews
Suraya is, without question, the best Lebanese restaurant
Suraya is, without question, the best Lebanese restaurant I've ever been to--and honestly, the best restaurant in Philly. I've eaten at Zahav, Friday Saturday Sunday, and many of the city's other top spots, but Suraya is on a whole different level. The food is absolutely spectacular--every dish is vibrant, perfectly executed, and unforgettable. The atmosphere matches the food. The interior decor is stylish, warm, and inviting, while the outdoor garden is simply magical when the weather is nice. Service has always been excellent, attentive without being overbearing. Add to that the wonderful and charming neighborhood, and it's easy to see why I make a point to come here every time I return to Philadelphia. If you want an experience that blends incredible food, beautiful surroundings, and consistently great service, Suraya should be at the very top of your list. You will not be disappointed by anything on the menu.

Walked into a lovely storefront and cafe which opened up to an eclectic bar area , open kitchen and a huge dining area. Dan & Elle were our servers and Brittany was the manager who took great care of us. We opted for the lunch tasting menu and couldn't stop licking our fingers . Our meal started with the appetizer course which started with their home baked warm Pita bread served with Hunmous, Muhammara , Baba Ghanoush, and the fresh Tabbouleh salad . We had to try their Manoshe bread which was the pasta bread with a zaatar topping making it distinctly different and very aromatic and delicious. Dipping their bread in the various dips and the salad made for a great start We also ordered their sumac seasoned fries which was crispy laced with the tangy sumac flavor and a creamy aioli for dipping . For our entree we picked the Grilled Caledonian Prawns with a garlic vinaigrette which made the dish decadent. Halabi Kabab was our 2nd entree which was a ground lamb kabab with side of charred peppers and tomatoes - cooked soft perfectly seasoned and juicy kebab. Side of seasoned rice was a great addition to the protein packed meal . Walnut Sticky bun was sticky gooey and sweet as it's meant to be . Kruller with rose and pistachio was a unique pastry that I relished and enjoyed it with my coffee the next day Dining at Surayaa was a memorable journey through their culinary offerings and the shareable tasting menu makes for an even more enjoyable experience that made the trek to Philly definitely worth it. One of the unique restaurants in my dining experiences.
Reservations for Friday evening and sat at the chefs table.
The food and the energy were sensational. Definitely recommend. 10/10.
First time here and met an old friend from out of town.
I've never had Lebanese food so I was unsure of what to expect but WOW it was so good and I can't wait to go back. When I do I will make a resy for outside because while the inside is nice outside is breathtaking. We started with the raw tuna mezze and pita. Fresh delish and excellent bite. I had the halibut kabob and my friend had the lamb kabob. My halibut was excellent and the veggies were perfection. I'd never had lamb and I am going back just for that. Best bite ever! Our pita did catch fire at the chefs corner but no worries the staff was on it immediately and atleast 6 people checked on us after. Great service. Overall a lovely meal and experience I'd give 6 stars if I could!
Loved coming back, and decided to sit in the garden.
Its pleasant and relaxed vibe Food is excellent. We had a pistachio drink then red wine with lamb kebbeh and beef wonton type appetizers. We were told it takes a week to prepare the crust that lay on top They were delicately flavored and served with warm pita Lamb kebbeh we were not a fan of. Gave baba ganoush-y taste and raw lamb feel Great branzino, short ribs and lamb entree. All 3 excellent. Dessert of vanilla and peach was outstanding Shout out to extremely polite and engaging staff. Every person went out of their way to have a friendly chat. Even, our server, to the person who greeted us, was a makeup student from parsons, the lovely girl who served dessert and and the gentleman who served appetizers, everyone was warm and made us feel special Only thing, its super pricey. We paid 300$ for 3 people meal. But its an experience , so thats there
DO NOT drive here! There is no parking lot anymore.
There is a lot a block away, but DO NOT park there! Though it doesn't say you can't, they will tow you to a desolate ghetto and you might have to Uber there with $235 cash to get your car back, which for us was after midnight (crazy dangerous!). The lot has several spots with signs for either managers or they just say 'reserved.' However, most spots do not signs, don't have numbers and there is no way to pay or any sign that says you need to. The only sign says that illegally parked cars will be towed for $175 ( but they demand 235 in cash when you get there). There was a crowd of people wondering where cars went, including the nice family sitting across from us at dinner. My car camera showed 3 tow trucks clearing out the whole lot except the reserved spots. In fact, my camera caught them breaking into a car, I guess to release the brake and who knows what else. Apparently there are hundreds of complaints and lawsuits, but this keeps going on! I realize Suraya does not own the lot, they should definitely warn their customers of this ongoing issue nearby, but they just don't care. Other than that, our waitress was great and food with good ( a little salty). I gave them 5 stars in the past, but now I can't go back there..
Excellent food.
Seasoned and prepared fresh. The pita bread is super fresh and delicious . The decor and vibe is excellent. Great service

I honestly think is now my favorite restaurant that I've ever been to. God it was so good, I can't stop thinking about it. We went on a Friday (be sure to get reservations) which means we had to do the Taste of Suraya (required on Fridays and Saturdays) and honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. Every dish was well seasoned, filling, and better than the next. My personal favorite was the Kawarma. The savory lamb was cooked to perfection, the yogurt sauce added a nice texture and a tangy flavor, and the cucumber salad was light and sweet. I also loved all the dips in the beginning. They give you a warm soft pita to use with the dips and it was so fun trying each one. As for the service. The waiter was attentive, explained the menu well, and someone always wiped down the table between each course. I could not recommend this place more. I would give higher than 5/5 if possible.

On a recent day jaunt to Philly, we decided to allocate our one precious lunch to Suraya. The notion of eating fresh maamools, perhaps paired with a simple Lebanese white coffee, in a quiet Fishtown garden sounded quite ideal. The space is indeed beautiful and vast, with the bakery in the front and restaurant in the back. We shared the hummus fatal, which was heavily doused in ghee and topped with delicious crispy mushrooms. We also ordered a plate of ful - I generally prefer ful when served more in stew format, here it was fairly dry and dense. I had been hoping they had some form of fatteh on the lunch menu, but sadly this was lacking.
I'm sad to report that my most recent experience here
I'm sad to report that my most recent experience here really was a disappointment compared to my previous visits. I came for lunch, so I'm not sure if that is why it was so different this time. For lunch we decided to try the ful mudammas, the short rib hummus and the shish taouk. While the short rib hummus was unreal and I think I could eat that every day and it was perfectly cooked, the other dishes were a letdown. The ful mudammas dish looked so muddled and that was exactly the taste of the dish. It had some texture, but the color of the dish and seasoning were so off. The shish taouk was ok, but nothing memorable and the pita bread tasted stale and just not the warm fresh pita I remember from the past. I think I would come here again for dinner, but I'd likely skip lunch time here in the future.
Great Experience
Great experience eating there on a special occasion. The taste, presentation and creativity of their offerings, service, ambience, space were commendable including their bathrooms which smelled like you entered a very expensive hotel. I was surprised that considering the price of eating there, there wasn’t an empty table and had a growing line in the front desk.
Lovely but not great
Food is very good indeed. Carefully and expertly prepared with bold flavors. The set meal is too much food (and not cheap). We wish we had ordered 2-3 appetizers and 2-3 main courses for four people. The service was hurried and somewhat careless. I don't know why every waiter felt compelled to rattle down the list of every ingredients for every dish at 300 miles an hour. Better perhaps to just name the dish, if the waiter is in a hurry (which they seemed to be). We might have given Suraya five stars but the next evening we ate at Zahav, which blew our minds. In a city with a Middle East restaurant like Zahav, other Middle East restaurants have their competition cut out for them. Suraya is less creative, less perfectionist, less generous, and somewhat less welcoming.
Always a winner
A second time visit and they do not disappoint. Great mix of flavors and textures. The wine list is excellent and enjoyed a red from the Bekka Valley.
Lives Up to the Hype
An exceptional dining experience. The service was beyond what was expected - very friendly and attentive - and each dish had a flavor that simply popped. I particularly recommend their Kanafeh for desert. This was my second time here and I'm already planning to go back!
Don't waste your time or money
Staff are rude and condescending. We were seated and then ignored. The place looks really nice but they treat you like garbage and obviously never service their restrooms. We ended up leaving before we ordered any food. If you like to be ignored and treated badly, this is the place for you.
Feels like you are not in Philly
The ambiance of this restaurant is amazing! We sat at the bar and picked multiple dishes to share, and it cane with warm pita bread. There is a gorgeous outdoor dining area for the warmer months that you can sit under the trees and it feels like you are in a different part of the world.
Mediterranean Feast in Fishtown
Large well laid out Mediterranean style restaurant in Fishtown. Great food and wine choices. Service very good and attentive. Quality of the food was very good.
The rudest staff in the most overpriced place
Went there with my daughter to either reserve a table for lunch for our family of 8 or order a takeout. It was noon; they did not have a table; we were willing to come as late as needed but they close at 2:00. No take out, but we can order from the Marketplace, a small pastery/cafe like counter with a display of very cute overpriced knick knacks. We decided to order apetizers from here anyways. We proceeded or order from the list written on the board behind the barista. She informed us that they did not carry those items and gave us a different menu instead. The gist of it: we could only order Hummus and Baba Gannouch. At $14 a piece, we were curious about the size. She did not know. We asked if we could at least see the container. She disappeared for a long time and came back to say 8oz. This was not very informative to us; we asked again to see the container. She became really annoyed with us, and showed us the container but said, "this is the container, it does not mean that it will be filled." She then rushed us to order really annoyed with us. We did. Paid $99 for an apetizer that we have not seen yet. When we recieved our order, wewere even more disappointed if that was still possible. Each of the containers had food spread very thin on its bottom. The quantities were so ridiculously small, for a price so high and a service so rude. It was embarrasing to present at the table. We combined the contents on a sigle plate to make them presentable. I have been to overpriced restaurants. It is a choice especially if they make us for it with the esthetics and the service. This was by far the rudest service I have recieved in any establishment in my 60 years.
Excellent food and atmosphere. A do-again.
Excellent food. Great staff. We got the branzino, halibut, and short ribs. Drinks were good but can be skipped and do a glass of wine instead. Price is on higher side. Staff was very friendly but they’ll keep you in track timing-wise to get people in and out- stick to reservation times.
Impeccably run operation.
We were impressed from the moment we entered the restaurant. Plenty of waitstaff, lots of space, with a nice quiet atmosphere. And the food! So many choices, great drinks. This place is amazing.
Not nearly worth the price.
Portions are very small and very expensive. And they still charge a flat 3% fee for the kitchen staff. The service is mediocre as well. Another over-priced and unexceptional Philadelphia restaurant.
Good food and good vibes.
Everything felt so fresh and healthy. A great brunch place for anyone visiting Philly!
My new favorite restaurant in Philly.
Get the fatteh!! It's just delicious and a great place for vegetarians as well.

This place was PACKED on a Monday night which is how you know it is both a neighborhood and Philly favorite. Ambiance is similar to your normal trendier restaurant with dim-ish lighting and pretty considerable background noise. There is a kitchen situated in the middle of the action but doesn't detract from the experience whatsoever. We did the tasting menu, and luckily it is not one where the whole table has to commit to eating the same thing per course as some other places have you do. The dip spread was good, but given the bar set by the likes of Laser Wolf / Zahav, it was just ok. My favorite dish I think was the lamb sausage (hot mezza). It was perfect texture, and the slight sweetness of the molasses from the sauce had me wanting more. Entree-wise, the salmon kebab was melt in your mouth good, while the beef kebab had an aftertaste that had me second guessing if I actually liked it or not. Overall the tasting menu is great bang for your buck in my opinion. I look forward to coming back for the famous brunch tasting menu!
I've been wanting to try Suraya for a while now and I'm so
I've been wanting to try Suraya for a while now and I'm so glad I finally did! The restaurant is so beautiful both on the inside and outside. My friends and I sat outdoors and it was so easy to forget that we were still in Philly! For appetizers I tried the hummus and the muhammara. Both were delicious but the muhammara was definitely my favorite as the flavors were super unique! I also loved the freshly made pita. For my main course I got the Samke Harra. The waiter warned me that this dish is spicy and I love spicy food so I was super excited to try it. It did not disappoint! While I have a pretty high spice tolerance so I didn't find it super spicy, the fish was so well seasoned and full of flavored. I also loved the sauce it was paired with. The branzino also came with a side of rice which was fluffy and delicious. The service was also great. Our waiter was so nice and extremely knowledgeable about both the drinks and food. Overall I was extremely pleased with Suraya; it lived up to the hype and I'd love to come back to try more things on the menu.
I hate to say I was a little disappointed by the experience
I hate to say I was a little disappointed by the experience at Suraya. I came with a friend for dinner on Sunday at 5:15pm. Our waiter was super helpful with allergies and recommendations but slowly became less attentive as the restaurant got busier towards 6:30/7. The food was okay overall. I didn't love the pita bread served with the hummus especially since it wasn't warm when it came out. The spices on the Kawarma lamb dish did not pair well with the meat; however, the meat was very tender. I did love the restaurant's ambiance and would consider coming back to sit outside in their garden.
Very posh, upscale location.
The ambiance was very swanky. We are inside, which was beautiful, but I would have loved to sit outside for the vibes. I really enjoyed the kebabs and potatoes. Ask for Hannah, she was amazing!
Service was terrible.
The menu was limited and the vegetables was not up to par. I went back a second time giving them the benefit of the doubt no change
I lived in Beirut for two years and so I love to support
I lived in Beirut for two years and so I love to support Lebanese and middle eastern cuisine in the area. Ambiance is wonderful and food presentation is beautiful, however $42 a person for a weekend brunch is over the top. Food was fine, standard Lebanese. Nothing extraordinary. The Lebanese Chai Latte and pasties - chocolate/halva croissant, cruller, kouign-amann were underwhelming for the price. The manousheh and zaatar/cheese croissant were tasty. If I'm craving Lebanese food, will definitely seek out a smaller, more authentic place that doesn't exploit the Lebanese cuisine and culture.
One of my top fav spots in Philly.
Wish they would bring back the breakfast yogurt they haven't had since pre covid.
Suraya in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia
The restaurant is located in The Fishtown Section of Philadelphia. I would give the restaurant a 5 out of 5. Food was Lebanese cuisine and the wait staff was fantastic. I had the ALMAZA LEBANESE PILSNER Beer with a MUHAMMARA appetizer. The MUHAMMARA is hearty walnut and roasted red pepper dip or spread that’s all sorts of savory, sweet, slightly smoky, and just enough spicy. For sure he main course I had the KAWARMA which is slow roasted lamb • baharat, dill yogurt, cucumber & pomegranate salad. Beautiful restaurant, delicious food and amazing wait staff.
A unique & memorable meal!
I had the most incredible meal at Suraya last weekend and can’t stop thinking about it! Reservations are hard to get and I totally see why - I’m glad my friend and I were able to snag a seat at the bar. We split a few dishes (the muhammara, fatteh, and the prawns) and each one was better than the last. The homemade pita is 10/10 and our server recommended two excellent wines that were unique to Lebanon. The decor and atmosphere are just as great as the food and I can’t wait to come back!
The food & wait staff were great.
My son Michael wanted me to try something different for my birthday celebration! Ian our server described everything to the tee. Great bartenders & hostess. Great atmosphere. Food was so delicious and creative ‼
#lebanese #PA #phyli had a great experience in here.
All the food were so yum and delicious :) rec to y'all!
Will return again and again
Phenomenal food. Every single thing we had was delicious, and very accommodating to food restrictions and allergies!
Waiters were very attentive and kind.
We had a big group visiting this restaurant for the first time. Please note that on Friday and Saturday is prex fixe only. For the tasting menu, you already get a lot of the cold mezza dishes, but you can select one more mezza dish per person and mashawi (main dish) per person. We had 5 people, so we tried most dishes. You get fresh hot pita in a paper bag and can always ask the waiter for me. Mezzas: - samke nayyeh yellowtail - 9/10 fresh fish with delicious citrus notes - fatteh - 10/10 super addicting, loved the crispy bites of pita inside the dish - makanek - 3/10 sausage had a unique muted flavor, it was okay to try once but I wouldn't order this again - muhammara - 8/10 loves the pomegranate mixed in this dish, super good with pita - baba ganoush - 8/10 delicious well-seasoned eggplant appetizer Mashawi: - djej meshwi - 5/10 chicken dish, kinda dry - samke al malouf - 7/10 favorite mashawi dish - kafta and halabi kebabs were great basics to order for the table Desserts: - chef's special so we didnt choose, but each dish was very delicious. Our favorite was the mozzarella with filo pastry with a sweet crust. Drinks: - the enchanted forest - 6/10 thirst quenching but also felt like it tasted like soap or hand sanitizer because of the thyme - melody in the night - 5/10 just got this to try the clarified milk, unique taste - the farewell - an old fashioned, a friend got it but I didnt try it. They really like it and ordered a second glass.

This restaurant has been top-rated in Philly for a while, and for good reason. Great food, great tastes, and great vibes. You walk in, and immediately there is a small marketplace you can buy various items including candles! It can get very busy, but if you book ahead of time, it should be manageable. The food is definitely the star of the restaurant as everything was delicious. Definitely would try different appetizers and the kabobs were all seasoned well! Vibe can be intimate at certain parts of the restaurant, or trendy the rest,

This was such a cute little place with all the plants on the wall. Very nice people the service was excellent and it was great. It was very quick service. And the food was so good. I'm definitely coming back again.

Excellent food! Loved the pita and all the sides they provide. Lamb sausage was EXCELLENT.
This is one of my favorite places to order lamb.
Definitely recommend making reservations in advance as this is one of the more popular neighborhood restaurants in Fishtown, but it is 200% worth the hype. The garden area is beautiful, but only open during the warmer weather months.
As we are knocking off the top restaurants according to
As we are knocking off the top restaurants according to Philadelphia magazine, we hit #2 on the list. We stopped in for the Sunday brunch and seats at the bar to avoid the 20 to 30 minute wait for a table. Selection is limited and service was slow due to the crowds. Food was very good and you could fill up just on the pita bread and dipping options. Very good food. Great dessert selection. I would just recommend avoiding the brunch session.
You know you're in for a treat when your server describes
You know you're in for a treat when your server describes the menu as a journey, the food changing and playful. Amazing appetizers and mains. Had the babaganoush (pictured) -- seasoned well with bits of pomegranate it was the perfect complement to freshly baked and bagged pita. Then the sumac driest. Twice fried I suppose with a dusting of sumac and garlic sauce. The fattoush had crispy but thin pita throughout; and a lemony dressing but for the cost was a bit small. The cauliflower was the hit. Sitting on a bed of tahini? Crispy but different in that it was topped with chili peppers. 4 apps and I was full with the party of three but glad to have tried the lamb kabobs served w their side hummus and veggies. A beautiful spot, we were thankful for the resy reservation and despite the trek to fish town I was glad to impress my friends.
Suraya is an upscale Lebanese-inspired restaurant.
Ever been to NYC or DC? If so, think ilili. Is Suraya an authentic family style Lebanese food restaurant? No. Is it worth the trip? No doubt about it. We sat at the chef's table and it was a great choice. My friend and I ordered the kawarma, which was amazing. An absolute must try. Crispy on the outside, very soft on the inside. Kawarma is usually Lebanese minced lamb confit, so this was an interesting take on the traditional recipe. We also had the chicken and fattouch. Of course we had Lebanese wine. I wish I tried the hummus and dessert (kanafeh) but we were so full.
Excellent birthday celebration!
Great food, extremely professional service and good drinks made for a great night. We all ordered the special with multiple apps, first courses and mains, and every bite was wonderful, with the one small exception that the two of us who ordered the roasted lamb main were a bit disappointed. Every other dish was just great. We loved it and will definitely be back!
Amazing Mediterranean food in FISHTOWN.
We came here on a Monday night without reservations and we were lucky to get a beautiful spot outside . The restaurant is large and tastefully decorated. The cuisine is high end Mediterranean. We tried some new dishes and they were all delicious. Our wait staff was on point . A great experience and well worth the trip to FISHTOWN, just make sure and have a reservation.
Excellent service, but meh food. Overpriced and overhyped
Let's start with the best- SERVICE! Tracy is awesome! The food- the Oyster Mushroom kababs- amazing! The Shrimp and the kebabs- meh Overall- over priced and overhyped. We had eaten at another small lebanese place around the corner a few days before, where the food was incredible.
Best ambiance, service and food in Philly!
Best place for lunch or dinner - the lamb kebabs and fatteh are amazing! The service is also top notch, you feel taken care of and they make accommodations for everything!
Make a reservation!
We didn’t have a reservation, I didn’t think it would be crowded on a Wednesday night. I was wrong. However, you can order appetizers in their lounge and we ordered almost all of them. So good! Next time we are in the area, I will make sure to reserve. Fun drinks and food. Great service!
Must go to Suraya!!
Suraya is a beautifully decorated restaurant with delicious and authentic Middle Eastern dishes. Our Fathers Day family brunch was perfect. From appetizers to entrees and freshly served coffees, the meal was so good. Great service too. Definitely a gem and must try spot!!!
The BEST LEBANESE food in the United States!
The BEST LEBANESE food in the United States! The ambiance is amazing, the staff is really nice and the food is unique and delicious. I would come back to Philly just to eat there!!
