I thought this place was pretty good.
The food was quite delicious- I tried a host of appetizers plus the scallops and the wagyu, all of which were tasty. 4.5 stars.

Date: Saturday, March 2nd 6:15pm Reservation: A must We ordered the octopus ragu, carbonara and a bottle of wine to start. For our entrees, I got the Cod and he got the Scallop dish. And for dessert, although we were full there was absolutely no way we were going to pass on dessert! We got the no brainer STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING CAKE, however, there was a dessert called the "SNOWMAN!!!!!!!" and yes I had to ask if it was in the shape of a snowman and when our waiter, Esteban said Yes!, I said, we would like one of those as well please. I checked every review platform and could not find a photo of the snowman dessert so I have attached one to delight you, but oh my oh my, imagine if they made the snowman dessert like a baked Alaska style kinda like a flambรฉ!!! Ughhhh it would've been a show too! So. To sum up, Sweet Basil is a Michelin Star restaurant. Location is nice and easy, hotel had their own car service for travel within Vail. Hostess was fine, but expected friendlier being the first point of contact. Woman at coat check was absolutely lovely, wish I got her name. Restaurant ambience, layout, color, where the wine collection was when you walk in, was nice and cozy, I even like the feeling of the ceiling being a bit lower. There was one issue during dinner with the lighting, not sure if the dimmer was glitching or there may have been a power flicker or outage, not sure but there were quite a few people who had to use their lights on their phones to look at their menus, and Ofcourse they kept it on which took away from our evening. Wait, Esteban, made amazing recommendations, wonderful smile, great attitude, timely check-ins, the wait staff and was great with the timing/sequence of the food as well. Dessert, Sticky Toffee was yummy it wasn't too sticky and it was moist definitely would get again I wouldn't say that I haven't it's the best I've ever had, but it was yummy. The snowman was yummy as well, totally wish they would think about doing it flambรฉ or baked Alaska style, however it does come with a raspberry sorbet and OMG, the combination of that tart, refreshing sorbet and the chocolate ganache like cream snowman was just perfect. So overall, WORTH IT. DEFINITELY WOULD DO AGAIN.

Be the first to ReplyWe had one of the best restaurant experiences of our lives
We had one of the best restaurant experiences of our lives at Sweet Basil. The Perfect Margarita packed a serious punch that lasted through the meal. My wife enjoyed the Blood and Smoke. The whipped feta cheese appetizer was amazing. The sashimi was not up to the standards of the other food we ordered. My wife had the pork entrees, and I had the salmon. Both were top notch. For dessert, we enjoyed a blood orange concoction that was scrumptious. Our waiter and the overall service were outstanding. We never felt rushed, but never had to wait more than a few minutes for the next course. We each had a glass of wine recommended by our waiter, and the pairings were excellent.

We had it a while ago but when we did there was not anything bad to say all. the apps and deserts were ordered multiple times. The service was great the waiter we had was great and also nothing bad to be said. The place was beautiful and on a great spot on a river running through the town. Over all I'm happy.

I've been to Sweet Basil several times in the past and I've always been a huge fan but there were some pretty big misses this time around. The caviar bump literally had zero caviar, it was a creme fraiche and chive cracker for 25 dollars each. The scallops were over sauced and too rich. The "wagyu" beef seemed more like sirloin. The carbonara ravioli and the potato bombs were just not great. The yellowtail sashimi was the best bite of the night. We were also disappointed with our waiter who was short with us and would not give any feedback on our menu questions except for "yeah, it's great."

We recently dined at Sweet Basil and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal there. Although the waiting area can be a bit cramped when it's busy, the dining area in the back of the restaurant with views of the river is lovely. We had the Ahi Crudo and potato bombs to start, both of which I thought were delicious. The sauce on the potato bombs was particularly intriguing. I had the venison for dinner and shared some of the duck entree with another member of my party, and although I thought my venison was really good, I think the duck was better. For dessert, they had a special that was a snowman with chocolate ganache and raspberry coulis constructed as a snowman, which was both incredible to look at and delicious to eat. Overall, I very much enjoyed my meal at Sweet Basil and would recommend for anyone looking for a more classy place to eat in Vail.

I've been coming to SB for a long time and my previous experiences have always been the best.. yesterday though, I had to send back my first cocktail, it was not made correctly and flavors were missing (keep in mind this place was recently given a Michelin mention) yellowfin tuna was very good, potato bombs were ok and the burger was not the burger I am used to get there. Now I think this place is not consistent.. hit or miss in other words.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food with a creative twist.
The pork chop was very well cooked, as was the duck. The chocolate mousse mushroom is fun and tasty. Service was rather slow, but overall polite and efficient. It was a loud restaurant, but not overly so.
Be the first to ReplyWas looking forward to this restaurant.
I had dinner at their sister restaurant mountain stand of the night before. And was disappointed so this was a chance to hopefully make up. Another reviewer mentioned how disgusting the ravioli was. I could not agree we sent it back on the waiter took it off the menu. We got the mushroom salad which he said was all mushrooms. But it was just raw mushrooms sliced up on some frize lettuce and not very flavorful or interesting. He suggested the Spanish octopus to make up for the horrible ravioli. So we got that and it was good but I have to send things back at a restaurant of this caliber is very frustrating. We also had a reservation from more than a couple weeks and we receipted practically in a table that was in the bar. Not really in the restaurant and the table that you offered us in the restaurant was stuck back in the corner between lots of other people and did not look very appealing so we opted for the bar table. But never felt like we were really in the restaurant. We did have the pork chop which was quite delicious that was the only excellent dish we had. Andy was our waiter and he was very nice and accommodating. And the hostess could not have been nicer but she didn't have a better table to give us! Cuz there was none. Desert with sticky toffee pudding. It was nice. One entree two appetizers and a couple glasses of wine and a dessert. Remember one entree. And it's still cost us $110 each! I would not recommend this place either.
Be the first to ReplyOne of favorite places in Vail! We have been coming here
One of favorite places in Vail! We have been coming here for years and you can trust that this will be a wonderful experience - both in quality of food and in service. We typically ask to be seated in Craig's section, but you won't go wrong with anyone that takes care of you. Highly recommend a reservation, but you can also have a great time at the bar. We appreciate the care and service!

I went to celebrate my birthday with my husband for the first time and let me tell you a few things. The place is beautiful with this huge wines wall. The restaurant was full that night (Thursday) and we waited a couple of minutes at the bar enjoying delicious cocktails. Once at the table we ordered a bottle of wine and a few appetizers that came in a fair time but we didn't have sharing plates to enjoy them and our server took about 10 minutes to touch our table and realize that we didn't have the proper utensils to enjoy it. We also ordered a main course to share but sure if that was gonna be enough for both of us and ask our serve and she said it was a good amount of food. So we got our main course and right away we knew we will need something else but again our server did not came to check on us right away so when she came I asked her the menu to order something else and she apologized saying the kitchen was closed already that she could only offer us dessert, honestly it was my birthday and I was enjoying myself but I was a little annoyed that no one gave us a last call before... so overall a good experience and the food is definitely delicious and unique but I really think the service is not on the same level.

Be the first to ReplyGave me gluten even though I have an allergy.
Told waiter I had a gluten allergy and I double checked with waiter when it was put in front of me. They told me it was gluten free and I ate a bite and then someone else came out and said it has gluten in it. the restaurant was barely apologetic and left the fries I ate as my meal on the bill. The waiter was so uncomfortable when we said something he barely came to our table after. Never have I had a restaurant deal with an allergy so poorly.

Better to make a reservation but if you can't, arrive at the start of lunch or dinner service for a walk in. Kind and attentive staff! Loved the service, Emma was wonderful. Appetizer- whipped feta was enough to share with 2-3 people. An experience. The salty and sweet combination was tasty. Entrees- Mahi Mahi tacos were okay, I wouldn't order again. The cheeseburger was standard, nothing special.Great location.Everything tasted fresh. High quality food.

The venison plate that I had was one of the best meals I've ever had. Every single element of the dish was phenomenal and every bite I took continued to shock me with flavor. Our server Emma was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu when catering to my peanut allergy. I would highly recommend.

Didn't feel like we were treated well at all. Staff does not care about customers. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant in Vail.
We come every year for our ski holiday and we never miss having at least one meal at Sweet Basil. This year was no different than every other year, Outstanding!!! Food was exceptional and stuff and service even better. My favorite dish this year was Foie Gras Paccheri paired with a wonderful french Sauternes wine My husband loved lobster paella, oysters were phenomenal as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Can't wait to come back.

Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at a restaurant and I must say, the food was truly outstanding. It was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a very long time. The dishes were flavorful, well-presented, and delicious. However, I must admit that our waiter left a little something to be desired. He was a bit inattentive and had a rather dry personality which detracted from the overall dining experience. When we asked for recommendations, he wasn't really able to provide us with any helpful insights, which was a bit disappointing. The drinks took an extremely long time to come out as well which was also disappointing. In conclusion, I would recommend this restaurant for its fantastic food, but be aware that the service may not be the best. If you're looking for a great meal, I would definitely suggest giving this place a try. Just be prepared for a waiter that may not add much to your dining experience. Definitely order the foi grass.

This was such a diss appointment especially after all the stellar reviews... let's get into it... came here to celebrate my husbands birthday. I had called in advance to let them know and the host had it marked on her computer. Upon being seated I went to check with the waiter if they knew it was my husbands birthday to which he had no clue but said thanks for telling me we'll make it really special. So ok my expectations were high based on how he set them. The food:1. Oysters - 6.5/10 good but underwhelming. Needed other sauces 2. Tuna - really good 9/10 but way overpriced for such a small portion.3. Whipped feta - 6/10 would've been better with warm fresh bread rather than a crispy and crumbly pita like chip. 4. Lobster and scallop spaghetti - 3/10 WAY over salted and not great flavor. 2 scallops that tasted as if they came out of a frozen bag.5. Venison - 5/10 asked for medium rare and got completely rare. It took away from the flavor. The sauces it came with were not good 6. Lamb - 7/10 this wasn't bad. It was time for the birthday they had promised to make so special. They brought out the dessert we ordered and gave it to my dad and not my husband. It had a tiny piece of chocolate that said happy birthday and that was it no candle. No acknowledgment from the waiter just dropped off and that's it. Not a great experience. Overall there are far better and tastier places to eat in vail and Colorado for a much more reasonable price. Don't waste your money here for subpar food.

I would rate this the best restaurant in Vail so far based on the excellent food and service. All the food was so savory and the waiter's service was top-notch.

.. and we are old!! Lovely atmosphere, delicious drinks and the food was top notch. Tuna, branzino, deviled eggs... and the most amazing sticky toffee dessert. Our server was fabulous and in training! Go if you get the chance!!
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is awful.
The food is passable, but much like the rest of white washed vail, is unseasoned. The markup per oz of food is exorbitantly high. They will claim this to be due to the quality of the ingredients, and yet the markup is still likely over 500%, without tip mind you. Save yourself the trouble and boom elsewhere. The management was dealing with complaints all night, and for good reason. I hear lunch hear is actually good though. Maybe they should just give up dinner service and be a bar...
Be the first to ReplyI called to try and change my reservation time.
.. the woman on the phone offered 5pm. I did the mental math out loud to see what time we would have to stop skiing in order for 5 of us (including 3 kids) to go back to hotel, shower, and make it to the restaurant on time. Her response was "I don't give a fuck about your shower schedule ." I was completely dumbfounded. When I said "excuse me?" She immediately hung up on me. I called back multiple times and she refused to answer the phone. I eventually waited and called back later... the manager Nick answered the phone. I relayed what happened, and he appeared sympathetic. He promised to look into it and call me back, however he either forgot or just didn't care. I never heard a thing back from him. Unfortunately, we were forced to use our original reservation as much as I didn't want to lose the ย $125 deposit. Despite making the reservation way in advance we were stuck in the front bar area where it was so loud we couldn't even talk to each other without shouting. The food was very average (definitely not worth the price), but our server was nice. All in all, the lousy customer service made this very unenjoyable. This is literally only the second negative yelp review I have ever written in five years I have been on the site. I'm not a complainer but I feel like I need to let people know to avoid this place!
Be the first to ReplyLovely restaurant in Vail village.
They have a kids menu and the cheese dip was a hit because it comes out as a poof and you have to break it. They don't have crayons or coloring sheets which they should given the number of kids that also dine there. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert is a must.
