Vernick Food & Drink richly deserves the accolades and 5 star ratings that it is piling up. The food is wonderfully creative and expertly prepared. We started with the blue crab and lemon aioli toast and the tender eggplant cavatelli. Entrees were crispy veal katsu with sweet soy barbecue sauce and smoked duck breast with stone fruit panzanella. Everything was A+ perfect. In particular, the smoked duck was among the handful of best duck dishes I've had anywhere. This is a kitchen that is on top of its game. The service is attentive, friendly and thoroughly professional. And the upstairs dining room is surprisingly quiet and uncrowded for a Center City location. The vibe of the place is: we want to be the best and we take pride in that. Shoutout to the bartender! I'm a bourbon snob, so trust me when I tell you that the Old Fashioned was a good as that cocktail gets. Bottom line: one of the very best restaurants in Philadelphia. Not to be missed!

The best birthday dinner I've ever had! From the stellar service and cocktails to the elevated and inspired food menu, every part of this meal was perfect! Our waitress was amazing and helped us pick the perfect options and not a single bite disappointed!

I booked this place for birthday celebration and had high expectations because of it's rating. We ordered a few dishes - Crab on the toast: very mid and the crab tastes canned - Broccolini: this is the only good dish - Small plate sausage: very mid and not tasteful at all - Lamp chop: meat was of low quality though the cook was decent - Sea bass: Absolutely the WORST fish I have ever had at a restaurant. It is very fishy and tastes like dirty water. My rating is 100% on the food. Our server was great.

Highly recommend. Raw dishes (especially striped bass) were all stellar, as were crab toast, lamb chops, sausage and beans. Really everything we ate was fabulous. And don't sleep on dessert. Interesting wines by the glass as well.

Adorned with a beautiful downstairs bar and its seating area upstairs overlooking Walnut, my dinner at Vernick gave the rare feeling of both elegance and a down-to-earth great meal. I visited in a party of three on a Wednesday evening and was seated immediately. The service staff throughout the entire meal were on top of nearly every element, and courteous when we decided to add an extra small dish to our meal at the end. We were seated closer to before the kitchen closed, so the care to still ensure we had enough for our meal was very much appreciated. Our amuse-bouche had a soft cornbread that paired well with gazpacho. I personally enjoyed the soft bite of the sea bass, which meshed well with the textures of the fregola pasta. The potatoes were presented beautifully and octopus on our spaghetti was flavorful, if not just a tad bit on the saltier side. Yet, I felt that each dish complemented each other well--we tried to sample one item from the different components of the menu. Overall, the experience was excellent and, despite our later-evening arrival, we never felt rushed and enjoyed a great meal and time with company.

Some of the best service we’ve had in a very long time at a restaurant. APerfect amount of attentiveness. Food was delicious. Our party of 4 enjoyed the ceviche, green salad and fois gras ( all delicious) and then the halibut, sea bass, pork chop and morel mushroom pasta (small plate). No one wanted to share but we all did. Simply lovely.

We made a reservation and decided to sit at the bar instead tonight. Our bartender was unfriendly, apathetic, unaccommodating, and very dismissive. I really couldn't believe what I was seeing and it made me very uncomfortable.
Lovely Dinner with Family at Vernick Food and Drink!
Visited Vernick on a Friday evening with my family and was completely blown away. From the service, decor and vibe to the amazing staff and food, Vernick leaves no stone unturned. Their toasts are divine, the whole chicken (can also order half) was exquisite, and the desserts were just the perfect bite. I cannot wait to go back!
The ambiance is incredibly romantic.
I sat at the bar, and the bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had great conversation. I ate great food. And they recommended that I taste the pictured dessert (perhaps the menu has changed, but it was a lemony macaron filled with ice cream). Hands down some of the best food in Philadelphia and an excellent, upscale/sophisticated vibe..

Cane for Valentines day, no resy so sat at the lounge which offers the full menu. Service was good, a little bit slow with drinks but understandable given it was a busy night. Food was good but maybe fell a bit flat from the inflated expectations, ordered the kanpachi, blue crab toast, gold potato toast, celery root milanese, and cauliflower Cauliflower and celery root milanese were our favorites.

OMFG. Vernick Food & Drink in Philly? Let me tell you, it was an unexpected journey of pure culinary joy. We thought we'd just pop in for a quick cocktail, but once we got a peek at that menu and saw those mouth-watering dishes coming out, there was no turning back. We had to dive in deeper. First, the drinks were on another level. My husband got an espresso martini - not your average one, but a Tomcat Barrel Aged Gin Espresso Martini. It wasn't on the menu, but our waiter was like, "Trust me on this," and wow, am I glad we did. It was out-of-this-world good. And my drink, the Hacienda, was just incredible. We've been around, going to craft cocktail spots everywhere, and this one? It's up there with the best of them. But the real treat was the food. Those scallops? They nailed it. Perfectly seared on the outside, so you get that little crunch, but then inside, they're just melt-in-your-mouth buttery. And the Branzino, oh my goodness, it was cooked to perfection. But let's talk about the veggies - yes, the veggies! They were almost the stars of the show. Brussels sprouts, cabbage, you name it - every single one was a hit. Who knew vegetables could be this exciting? And I can't not talk about the brown butter cake. I'm the kind of person who sees butter cake on a menu and has to order it. This one at Vernick? It's right up there with the best I've ever had, including this unforgettable one at a steakhouse in Baltimore. It's rare to find a place that knocks it out of the park with drinks, appetizers, mains, and desserts. Vernick Food & Drink has the whole package. It's more than a meal; it's an experience you won't forget.
Very intimate restaurant within Rittenhouse Square.
The food was amazing, though on the pricier side. Although it can get busy, the service remains impeccable. Prices are moderate to slightly elevated, but comparable to the restaurants in the area. Would definitely recommend, especially if for a date!

Food is great, drinks are excellent (and strong), and vibes are chill. Atmosphere feels homey and dim - good for dates. Heard upstairs has better vibes but haven't checked it out yet.

My husband and I went to Vernick a week early celebrate Valentine's Day! I really enjoyed the ambiance, we were sat at a table near the chef's kitchen. Service was amazing! Very attentive and they always made sure we were comfortable. We ordered a lot! We had two apps, two entrees and a dessert! They first served us a little soup with butternut squash. The delicata squash peanut salsa macha was amazing! The roasted squash was delicious and the peanut salsa macha was so flavor packed, spicy savory, nice acidity. I was pleasantly surprised, and I think that flavor combo with the sweet squash was actually my personal favorite dish of the night. Then we also had yellowfin tuna with the white soy ponzu shiso avocado. It was very refreshing and very balanced. Nice creamy avocado dollops with refreshing micro greens. Then they gave us a free potato appetizer with hollandaise! It was super crispy and was great to get it on the house because we were honestly thinking about getting it! For entrees we had the Atlantic halibut and the half roast chicken. The roast chicken was amazing and really deliciously roasted. I really recommend it! The peppers were so sweet and very delicious. The Atlantic halibut had an interesting flavor that was good, but maybe not for me. Lastly, we ordered espresso flavored ice cream with a chocolate chip cookie. The ice cream was very rich and creamy. A great way to end the night. They also gave us apple cider vinegar popsicles to round out the experience. Loved Vernick and get why everyone raves about it! I'm excited to try more things (and hopefully order that delicata squash again!)

We ate at Vernick for a belated birthday celebration, and did the chef's tasting and wine pairing. We have tried many of the tasting menus in Philly and have been to some of the best restaurants in the world. The food was good, but it was exactly what you would expect from a tasting menu. There was nothing exciting or creative to make me want to come back. What did surprise me though was the lack of service. For a 2-person $600+ meal I would expect the servers to be attentive and to have more knowledge about the dishes and wine. It was also a Saturday night before Valentine's day so I would expect the best servers. We asked questions about the food and wine and were surprised the servers would have to go ask. It made us think they didn't even try the food. Also during multiple courses our food was brought out before the wine and we would have to wait for the wine pairing. During the first course this happened and we finished the wine prior to the second course. We were offered more and were never told we would have to pay for the small half pour (coincidently this was also the most expensive wine on the pairing). We were also not offered the opportunity to order any coffee or after dinner drinks - something we usually would do. The final dessert 'extra' from the chef was just dropped off and we didn't even know what it was. Overall the food was tasty but the service issues overshadowed our experience.

To start off with, we tried the following bites to share: +fromage blanc, grilled ramps on toast - this was better of the two toasts that were ordered +blue crab, lemon aioli on toast - the lemon aioli gave this toast a bit of a tang +marinated mushrooms, creamy eggplant, lavender - the lavender was a bit too overpowering for this dish +crispy potatoes, lemon, dill, malt vinegar - wasn't a fan of the dill nor the malt vinegar being used to prepare this dish +whole roasted artichoke, lemon cornichon aioli, frisee - this was a good app to share +linguine, dayboat scallops, tomato, white wine - scallops were slightly overcooked For our mains, we ordered: +grilled black sea bass, zucchini, couscous, sauce vierge - the couscous could have been prepared better, and we weren't fans of the zucchini +atlantic halibut, morels, asparagus, crab broth - this was more on the bland side +20 oz ribeye, brown butter & blistered tomato For desserts, we tried: +the blueberry pie - served with burnt cinnamon ice cream Service was friendly and attentive. Excellent In Every Way
I had superb food throughout my week in Philly but this restaurant topped the lot. Food was absolutely fantastic - every dish a flavour sensation. Service was also faultless, & the greeting warm. It’s an upscale affair, set within a beautiful character building in the posh part of town, but the vibe is low key & unpretentious. Loved every minute!!

I had not been back for many years, and my first visit was not a great experience. Decided to try again because so well rated and it was close to where we were seeing a show. The meal was fantastic. Certainly understand now where the great reviews come from. Will look forward to coming back soon.
Friday Night Date
Excellent service, professional demeanor of staff. Food was delivered bar side as we find some of the best customer service! Cocktails were mixed to perfection. We had the oysters, shrimp appetizers, scallops entrees, and the spaghetti crab appetizers! Cool vibes clean atmosphere.
Delicious unusual menu. Everything was prepared perfectly.
We had an excellent meal. My wife had the crab appetizer and the skate appetizer, both excellent. I had the pork chop, which was perfectly prepared and delicious with a slightly spicy sauce. Service was good. My only downside is that the tables are close together. It’s quite a small place. Try to eat at the front of the restaurant overlooking the street. It gives you a little more space + air.
Service Leaves Much to Be Desired
I have been to Vernick's on many occasions, and I have to say that after my most recent visits, I left extremely dissatisfied. Last Saturday, I sat at the bar and was really looking forward to the Bison Strip Loin. The Beef Tenderloin Tartare and Arctic Char came out together in a timely fashion, both excellent. After an hour and 30 minutes, I asked the bartender if the Spaghetti with Lump Crab and Bison was still coming, he responded that he had no control over the kitchen, but the orders had been entered. To pass the time, I asked if they had any desserts, they had several appetizing options on the menu. I requested black pepper, the other bartender said he didnt have any behind the bar, but would go back to the kitchen to get it. He returned 10 minutes later without anything. At an hour and 45 minutes, I asked how much longer it would be for the pepper and Bison. The bartender said he didn't have pepper and was waiting for us to finish our pasta. He asked if I would like him to fire up the main course. I asked what he meant the first time and he could not give an answer. I can understand if they were busy for Easter weekend, however it seems like instead of offering clarity or solutions, they were offering excuses. I wasn't sure how much longer it would take, and so I asked for the check to finish dinner elsewhere. I spoke to the manager, James Smith, and after explaining the situation, he said, "you're good". I asked what he meant, and he said he would take care of the check, but I had already paid. He searched around the host stand, handed me a crumpled business card, and said that if I came back, he would take care of it. I returned this evening, and while the food was good, James only solution was to take two drinks off the $300 check. The first check was $150. While I would love to support a fellow native from Cherry Hill, NJ, and the food never disappoints, their service leaves much to be desired and I'm not sure if I would return.

Another fabulous dinner at one of my all-time favorites - some new items on the menu - on the Small Plates I highly recommend the Skate Wing - and for On-Toast the crab and spinach are perfect - hoping they don't change the menu when we come back in May because the Black Sea Bass is out of this world and the espresso ice cream was a really nice treat to finish the evening - also one of the best Old Fashions you find anywhere!!!!

I've been to Vernick Fish before and enjoyed the food and the drinks. I recently visited Vernick food for their 10yr anniversary to celebrate a friends birthday. It was amazing. The staff was phenomenal! They were accommodating for my friend who's adverse to seafood and honestly his substitutions were too their. I recommend a wine paring with the meal of you like wine. The wine paring is $95/pp. If not they offer a full bar and signature drinks. I started with a paper plane cocktail and it was very good. The ambiance of the place is bright and clean and full of plants. The walls were lined with wine available for purchase as well.
"OFF" night I guess (hope)
We come here a lot and usually love it. Last night was rough. Four of us. Service was just OK-sat upstairs. Had the steak (very good), whole Dorado (split between 2 was just ok and way over salted) and the Tilefish (good) along with fromage blanc on toast (excellent). All of the accompanying veggies were so salty they were basically inedible. At this price point food/service need to be spot on and they weren't. It was a a Wednesday so maybe the "A" team wasn't around as there was a lot of service people milling around and chatting vs providing service. Having worked in the restaurant biz enough I know this doesn't happen when the boss is around. We enjoy going out during the week to avoid the weekend crowds so I hope this was a one time event. We will give it another shot in a couple of weeks.

Everything about it, from presentation to taste is nearly perfect. It's hard to make a caeser salad memorable - but yep, Vernick does that. Fish is great too. Also the pasta bolognese. These are all dishes that don't sound unique bust somehow are.Desserts are out of this world so save room!I also appreciate that the drinks, including wine, are fairly priced. The cocktails are well made. The wine portions for the glasses of wine were generous.If I have one small quibble it's that I'd say the dishes were just a tad on the salty side. In this day and age of low sodium diets, I'd encourage them to lighten up and maybe add a salt shaker to the table for those who like it a bit saltier.The service is attentive without being obtrusive - not easy in a small restaurant. Special shout out to the bussers who kept the water full and the table clean between courses.So yeah, I will keep going back.

1. Everything I've eaten here is fabulous. 2. The cocktails and wine selection are great. 3. The service is perfection. Toasts, vegetable dishes, chicken and fish are all incredible options. And you can't go wrong with a wine off the list, a Manhattan, or a martini. Toss in a cozy atmosphere and Vernick becomes one of our favorites in the city (number one for my husband, top five for me)The only thing I wish is that it were easier to get a reservation...

Best Food in Philly
I was very impressed with the quality of the food. We had a whole fish, pork chop, and their big steak. The food was as good as we have had in New York and Las Vegas five-star places. If you want the best food in Philly, this is the place. However, the ambiance is a crowded feel with small tables fit tightly together. The service was good, but not quite what I would expect from a five-star place. At times slow and they are rigid in their food preparation when you want to vary. We also visited Jean-Georges and Vernick had better food. But service, view, and ambiance was better at Jean-Georges than Vernick. So if you're trying to choose now you know the differences.
