Vianda San Juan Reviews
Fantastic experience
We went there twice in a week. Tapas restaurant with interesting recipes. Decent location. Moderately priced. Great food, great staff, great restaurant .
Donβt hesitate, just go!
Absolutely fabulous. Walked in on off chance they had a table. Waitress was very friendly, very helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu. We went with the her recommendations. And could not fault. The food was sublime. Highly recommend.

Some of the best food and dining experience we have ever had !
OMG. Some of the best food we have ever had . We did 5 small plates and each one was better than the last ! The rabbit, the broccolini, grouper, mushroom soup, and the credo de peto, all excellent!! Understand the chef is up for another James Beard award. Our server, Gabriela was so friendly and helpful made the experience perfect. Wished we lived here so we could come back often . Now we have another good reason to come back to Puerto Rico !
Best restaurant in Puerto Rico!
Weβve been here 3 times and it only gets better. Great atmosphere, wonderful service and the food is unbelievable. Tonight, I had the mushroom soup with truffles. It may be the best thing Iβve ever eaten. The menu changes. Everything is fresh and creative. Cannot wait to go back.
Good food but not worth the high prices
Went for dinner hoping to be blown away by our meal. The food was good and the server was very helpful. The atmosphere was nice -- we could hear each other talk and the tables were spaced out well. But we didn't think the food was worth the hype, or the very high price tag. Our favorite dishes were the cod fritters and rabbit starter. If you want to go for a high-priced, fancier dining experience, then this is a good spot. But we thought there were a lot of good restaurants around for a much lower price point.
A great Santurce gourmet option
The style of food in Puerto Rico can be a bit challenging for those of us trying to minimise consumption of starch and fat and so we were delighted to find Vianda. This is a restaurant which bucks the trend by taking its menu down a much more gourmet path where carefully chosen ingredients and presentation trump calorie count and messy mountainous portions. As a result, the dishes are thoughtful, attractive and, occasionally, capable of challenging your tastebuds. The staff are extremely friendly, work well together as a team and very well informed about their food and beverages. The restaurant acoustics can make for a slightly noisy environment but because the eclectic clientele are clearly there to enjoy the food, this is a small detraction.
Delicous food and beautiful dining room but avoid to be placed in side room
We had a delicious meal at Vianda, and the crew was friendly and charming. I love the bar, and the dining room is beautiful. What spoiled our evening was that we were placed as the only group in an overflow room with very little of the charm of the rest of the restaurant. Going out is very much a social event; seeing other guests, the life of the restaurant, and placing anyone in this extra room is a punishment and should be avoided
Bad choice
Very small portions. Overpriced!!!!. I can't recommend this restaurant! The service of the waitress wasn't the best.
Never again
The portion are very small and the price very high. I never see price like this. The location of the restaurant is a very common area in santurce nothing fancy in the location to charge high prices. I spend $480 in three person and we went to another place later to eat something because we still hungry. The taste of the food was good, but there other place with this taste that are less expensive. I do not recommend the place.
Great place for adventure cuisine a fusion of old with new
Great place for adventure cuisine a fusion of old with new in terms of ingredients and flavor.A fabulous bar with great cocktail options. Great place to go with friends or a romantic dinner for two.
My husband found Vianda in a web search praising 2024 James
My husband found Vianda in a web search praising 2024 James Beard semifinalist chef Francis Guzman of Vianda. We made reservations 2 months out (book in advance!!) and were so glad we did. The food is outstanding!! Well-prepared, local and seasonal ingredients in a tapas style format. Plenty of vegetarian options. The ambiance is sophisticated and comfortable with space between tables. Well stocked bar with plenty of options. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. So glad we were able to visit this amazing restaurant! We'll be back!
Great food. Great service!
We had an early dinner with a bottle of wine. Everything we ordered was delicious! The service was friendly and helpful. The serverβs recommendation of one of the dishes ended up being our favorite dish!
A Bib Gourmand Experience by Award Winning Chef
Vianda is a phenomenal food experience with a fusion of Mediterranean, Indian and Puerto Rican influences. The dishes are expertly crafted, prepared, and presented and Chef Guzmanβs talent is on full display in the intimate restaurant deserving of his James Beard nominations and awards. The cocktails, while simple, are well executed, but the wine list deserves some expansion. The restaurant itself is quant, slightly over lit, the service struggles a bit to keep up with the excellence of the food, with more knowledge of the menu and minor items like waiting before presenting the check, detract from the food experience. Chef Guzman, familiar with the Michelin guide would certainly earn a Bib Gourmand if the guide served the San Juan area, and with a few tweaks to service, easily earn a star.
Wow what an experience.
I went to San Juan over the weekend and was looking for a nice place to celebrate my birthday. I have to say this restaurant is top tier. They have both small and large plate options with a variety of vegetarian and seafood options. My friends and I chose bar seating which was nice cause are waiter was able to answer any questions we had. I tried the Batatas Brava con pulpo. It's a sweet potato dish with aioli sauce sautΓ©ed octopus and tomato puree. The food was amazing. The grilled octopus was nice and tender and the sweet potato mixed with sauces really brought a creamy flavor. I would definitely recommend but reservations are needed to get a good seat.
Fabulous dinner in San Juan
Fabulous food, better service! Highly recommend Ivanβs mojito was really solid. Two small plates and one appetizer was plenty for dinner

Tried this restaurant and it fulfilled all the hype - it was very, very good! The service was great and the food was absolutely delicious.
Kudos to the chef - this place was incredible! The flavors
Kudos to the chef - this place was incredible! The flavors of each dish were absolutely magnificent. The cos was cooked to perfection and everything tasted so fresh and all ingredients were handled with the utmost respect and care. So happy my husband and I checked this place out. Great vibes and plant decor inside, and the drinks we delicious too. Highly recommend!!
Highly Recommended
The attention to details since we arrived was great, we were celebrating our anniversary and they served a complementary glass of sparkling wine. Since the beginning of the dinner they were very happy to served. We shared a few appetizers and then the main course also fresh and flavorful. Highly recommended restaurant and probably one of the top.

Wow really think some of the reviews here are over the top, and highly misleading. 3.5 stars, at best? The food IS good, overall, and has some interesting takes. Appetizers were pretty mundane, but nicely shareable. Entrees themselves are pretty imaginative. But they're also small with no sides. For example, I had a filet of fish (forget what). Had a nice tasty sauce. But that was the only thing on the plate. No sides (and none available as extras). I do appreciate a lot of effort went in (for example, presentation) and the desserts are a pretty special highlight. Service is very friendly, although not what you get at restaurants that highlight their chefs; eg lacking any real guidance/excitement on food (or for sure, wine -- and list is wonderfully creative but with many unfamiliar producers and grapes). In no way as special as other reviews on this site describe. Drinks took twenty-five minutes (in fact didn't come out until appetizers were arriving -- that drives me nuts). Watch for silly extra charges: $1.50 pp water service fee, $1.50 extra for "skinny margarita" (yes, to subtract ingredients), 20% service charge built-in (not standard in SJ).
3.5 stars?
Very okay. Servers super friendly and caring. But felt pretty underwhelmed given what we paid. Sat and ordered drinks, then while we waited we next ordered food. First appetizer arrived before we all had drinks (25 minutes after ordering them). Got served lots of water etc, but still. Appetizers were fine, but not special. Entrees were all excellent, to be fair. But small. No sides on the menu, and no sides with the entrees. (For example, I had branzino. One filet, covered in sauce. No vegetables or carb, and none on menu). So my entree was like 8 bites and then done. Desserts were crazy good β pastry chef is a star, both flavor and presentation (eg pumpkin mousse in shape of a pumpkin). Then a lot of silly charges on the bill β $1.50 pp βwater chargeβ, extra $1.50 for βskinnyβ margarita (yes, extra to remove an ingredient!), and 20% built in service charge that I was lucky to catch as I was about to add tip. Place is out of the way. Skip.
Hands down, Vianda is the culinary arts dining experience
Hands down, Vianda is the culinary arts dining experience of San Juan. I was blown away from the moment I sat down until I closed my check. Although a bit rushed as they had to fulfill drink orders from all the diners, Ivan and his colleague provided one of the best service I received at a bar. Ivan even made a point to tell me how his colleague was the genius that created my cocktail, la peΓ±a. As my photo of the cocktail shows, Ivan's colleague froze couple jalapeΓ±o pieces into square ice cubes as well as the chili bitters, and he explained how the taste of each ingredient comes into your pallet as you slowly sip the cocktail. Effing brilliant to be honest to add his twist to a traditional old fashioned. For my app, I ordered their croquetas de morcilla. The photo does not do justice of how flavorful it is. Also really liked their complimentary sweet potato bread served with butter. But it was my main entree, pesca del dia (fish of the day) that really blew me away. Pieces of crabmeat, that is not written in the entree description, adds another layer of taste to the overall, delicate flavoring their executive chef incorporates into this fish entree. How scrumptious! As if I was not already blown away, their otoΓ±o dessert sealed the deal for me. I mean, look at the photo - that is a pastry competition award worthy! Ivan's colleague recommended a white dessert wine that just went perfectly with this dessert (photo not provided) and what a way to finish such a memorable meal. If you plan to visit San Juan or will return for a repeat visit, do yourself a favor and book a reservation at Vianda. You will not regret it!
10/10 all around for
10/10 all around for the TASTE Consistency Creativity Perfect Service Easily a must-visit for fans of fine dining and excellent, elevated Puerto Rican food. Doesn't hurt that the drinks and service are also top notch.

A must in SJ
Truly a must. One of the best meals Iβve had in a long time. Great ambiance great drinks and super friendly staff. The food was amazing!
Excellent and attentive service.
Great appetizers and entrees. Try the cazuela de bacalao! The deserts are also a must.
This place was very modern and simplistic.
At first it gave me a little flashback of Mario Pagan and I was scared as I did not like the experience and emptiness of the ambiance of Mario pagan. Vianda was much better. Service was great but felt a little rush even though we had 2 hours before all reservations were taken we felt a little pushed. The food was amazing I love it, todo muy delicioso. We had the morcillas, tuna tataki tacos and ceviche to start of. We also had delicious main dosh

Amazing spot!!! The flavors were great in each dish - I've never had batatas bravas with a sweet potato before, and really enjoyed the contrast of flavors between the sweet with the salty from the egg aioli and the perfectly cooked octopus! The tortellini was also nice.. But the star of this meal was the pumpkin dessert! I almost didn't get it since I'm extremely wary after so many overdone pumpkin spice dishes, and I'm SO glad I did! This dessert is not-to-be missed, and undersold in the menu description. It's a pumpkin enterment with a very thin white chocolate shell, perfectly balanced pumpkin mousse, with a small bit of pumpkin purΓ©e in the center and a mint cake base. The trick is to get all of it with the crumble on the outside for the perfect combination of flavors and textures. The service was also phenomenal - great recommendations and fun to talk to at the bar. Will definitely return next time I'm in PR - can't wait to see the next menu!
Vianda was recognized in the 2022 James Beard Semifinalst
Vianda was recognized in the 2022 James Beard Semifinalst Awards! This is a top notch restaurant and everything here excels. As soon as we sat down we were greeted by our server, who was super helpful and provided great recs from the menu. Our meal started with one of the best breads I've ever had at a restaurant. They look like simple rolls, but don't be fooled - they're flaky, buttery, and soft. Everything we ordered was fantastic, but my personal favorites were the Batatas Bravas, Bacalao, and OtoΓ±o. The octopus in the Batatas Bravas was the most tender octopus I've ever had - I almost didn't believe it was octopus because of how tender it was! The Bacalao has amazing flavor - the coconut broth is soooo good. To top off an amazing meal, el OtoΓ±o was a super unique dessert. The presentation was so cute! Highly, highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nice place to eat. NOTE: Parking can a pain - you can either pay $10 in a lot right next to the restaurant or you can try and find street parking. We tried to find street parking, but it wasn't as feasible as we thought.
Dinner at Vianda
I am so thrilled that my husband went on Yelp and found this restaurant! Iβd put this up against any fine restaurant in NYC. The dishes are extremely creative, beautifully presented & absolutely delicious as well. Vianda is definitely a 5 star hidden gem. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Won't return ....
I have never been to San Juan before, so I researched plenty of restaurants. Couldn't get a reservation at my first choice Marmalade, so settled for Vianda as the reviews seemed impressive. Maybe it's "one of the best places in San Juan" per other reviewers if you live here, but for visitors, Vianda was hardly impressive to me. The food was fine and all dishes were well prepared. The servers we encountered were very kind and efficient (except for one that ruined our experience --the older female of the group that has an American accent). Sadly, the decor is very stark and uncomfortable with hard chairs and tables. There is plenty of space for more tables, and the ones they have are very spaced out. It feels like they inserted a restaurant into the bottom floor of an office building (which is quite possible noting the unimpressive location). I was disappointed the moment we walked in. Reservation timeslots were limited, yet the restaurant was quite empty the whole evening. Had a much better experience at all the other restaurants on our trip.
One time visit only.
The food is very good. Very small portions. Overpriced. Menu is very limited. Vianda only in the name. No viandas in the menu. For turists.
I saw the glowing reviews & tasting menu so I booked this
I saw the glowing reviews & tasting menu so I booked this for our last night in Puerto Rico to close out the trip. It did not disappoint. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing. The food & wine were both delicious. I was stuffed by the time dessert arrived. We also had cocktails before it started which were good too. Service was friendly & attentive.
Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed by our meal at Vianda.
Admittedly, we came in with high expectations because my friend was familiar with the chef/owners and it has great reviews. But the food was just fine, nothing extraordinary. The best part of the meal was the complimentary bread - spectacular! For dinner, we ordered the calamari as an appetizer, which was pretty standard. The agnolotti sounded delicious on the menu, but ended up being pretty average. My least favorite item was the empanada though - just didn't hit for me. It's expensive to dine here and the menu is limited so check it out ahead of time to make sure you get your $$ worth. Service was a saving grace, and up to par for a nicer restaurant (e.g., changing plates between courses, etc.). 3.5 overall.
Incredible last stop on our PR excursion.
There wasn't a single thing that we ordered that we didn't love. Service and ambience were also well done. Would recommend and would go back if we lived here. Crudo, pasta and fish were musts!
One of my favorites in PR.
The do great on the mix of asian and Puerto Rican food. And great drinks to top.
Potentially the best restaurant in San Juan.
The best restaurant we ate at in San Juan, and thatβs saying a lot. My wife works at a 5 star restaurant in Minneapolis, this place was recommended by the chef. My wife had the βbest fish dish she has ever eaten in her lifeβ which was the cod. Great service and nice atmosphere.
Absolutely recommend the filet mignon with the roasted
Absolutely recommend the filet mignon with the roasted pumpkin. AMAZINGLY tender and great flavors and presentation. Definite 10/10
Just one word: COME! You won't regret.
I ordered the main item on the menu( the chef tasting one, $80) and extra $45 for 4 wines to pair with, very delicious! Pork, rabbit, beef and desert rice pudding.
We had a good time while eating at vianda.
The staff was nice and the food and drinks were good. We wouldn't necessarily go back as the prices are high for small plates.
Absolutely loved everything about this place.
We sat at the bar. Great service. Food was truly spectacular all around! We had the tasting menu along with a couple other small plates. Literally everything was perfect
Very good vegan options
A very nice restaurant with contemporary looks, and excellent wait staff, also fully bilingual (Spanish, English) - our server was very attentive. The vegan selections were very good.
This restaurant was easy to find and had parking next to it.
Excellent service and food. I definitely recommend the taste menu.

I came here while visiting family in Puerto Rico and was seriously impressed by the celebration of local flavors and produce. We loved the raices locales (the day we came it was a beautiful beet salad that almost looked like tropical fruit), crepas de morcilla, tagliatelle, and the pork belly with crispy kimchi rice. Every dish contained an adaptation of a Puerto Rican flavor (think crispy pernil, escabeche, sofrito, pegao) but with a playful twist. The cocktails were similar, featuring local fruits and flavors. We were particularly impressed with the guava mule. The service was unpretentious and welcoming but extremely knowledgeable and was at the level of a Michelin-starred restaurant (attention Michelin folks--it's time to give PR its first star). Ambiance was spacious and sophisticated. There was so much attention to detail and we had such a memorable experience--the chefs clearly have a deep love for the flavors of Puerto Rico and do a great job of showcasing them with a twist. We would love to come back and try more of their seasonal fare next time we're back in town!
This food was some of the best I've had in PR.
To start, we got complimentary bread with butter, which was probably one of the most delicious things I've eaten in my life. We ordered the crispy pork belly con arroz kimchee and the tagliatelle. Both had great flavor, you can't go wrong with either of them. Note, unless you care to drink bottled water, ask for filtered water. We didn't realize we ordered bottled water and ended up getting charged $10 for 2 bottles which we didn't even finish.
Fantastic in every way
This is our second visit at Vianda and certainly not our last. We came to celebrate my husbandβs birthday. The staff was very accommodating and even let us drop off a birthday cake earlier in the day and without even asking, lit the candles and served the cake after our meal. Thatβs not even the best part. The food, super yummy, the service, fantastic. The atmosphere, clean, simple, classy. Absolutely worth a visit. We will be back!
