Beauport is fantastic.
My favorite place to go!! The bar and the patio are top notch, you won't be disappointed !!

Great food, even better views! Service is good too, we went for brunch on a Tuesday morning. The menu is varied and comprehensive for a hotel breakfast, there was also a buffet available. I picked a croissant sandwich with bacon on thee side and avocado added, we also got an everything bagel with lox added. They forgot to put the bacon on the side for mine, noticed it before I said anything when the food was brought to the table, and redid the egg for me which was very nice. The croissant sandwich and the side potatoes (seasoned to perfection) were each very good, they happened to have excellent croissants which is a rarity on the north shore. Parking was also very easy, they have their own lot and there's another public lot down the street. The ambience is spectacular. The view is amazing and there's ample outdoor seating.

My fiancé brought me to this hotel for our anniversary and 1606 (the hotel restaurant) was strongly recommended to us by friends. Make sure to call ahead to make reservations if you're heading there for dinner especially on a weekend! Okay so...where to begin. Everything was so good we came back twice already and I'll bring every Boston visitor I have here!! We ordered the crab cake which was large and had a hearty amount of crab meat. Between the two of us the crab cake and delicious clam chowder (large size) were sufficient for dinner and we ended up having to take our entree to go we were so full! The house tartar sauce was perfection. We loved the half bottle of wine option and views were amazing despite a bit of a stormy weekend. Complimentary bread was delish and served with a house made fig tarragon butter. Can't wait to come back. ;tldr order the crab cake and the clam chow you won't be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing experience.
As someone who grew up in the area I was excited about coming home and having an event at this establishment that I have often frequented in the past. I reached out regarding this and was met with an extreme lack of customer service, specifically by Emily Moore in food & beverage. She was rude, dismissive and lacked the professionalism I would expect from an establishment of this caliber. I look forward to finding another space. I will be letting locals and visitors know not to waste their time here and would encourage others to do the same.
Be the first to ReplyWe went to their Christmas by the Sea event for dinner.
It was wonderful. We had a choice of starters and I opted for the celery root bisque with lobster which was delightful. My main course was sole Oscar, followed by Eggnog Cheesecake for dessert. The views of the water outside the windows made dinner extra special along with the exceptional service. Well done overall and we will be back!
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant more than likely doesn't need my review
This restaurant more than likely doesn't need my review because it is a well known spot in Gloucester. But I have been here many times now and not leaving a review feels rude. First, I would like to say that all of the wait staff is wonderful. They are very nice and top notch professionals. The indoor ambiance is nice and comfortable but the outdoor deck is the place to be with fireplaces, heat lamps, mushrooms and personal table fireplaces. The mood is rich and waterfront property. But that doesn't mean a regular Joe won't have a great time here. Things to note: the appetizers are gargantuan in size so be ready to share. The short rib appetizer can easily be a meal and you must have the pear salad or the fig salad. These two dishes will convert any carnivore into eating clean. But the short rib is reasonably priced and a creatively delicious dish. The dinner offering change because the seafood is fresh. So over the summer I had a tuna meal that was caught the same day. I have never tasted tuna so fresh and I love sushi. I had a pasta dish once and it wasn't my cup of tea but the haddock carousel is delish! But to be honest the appetizers are very creative. The dinner options are delicious seafood and steak options. The vegetable pairings are also to be praised. Go 9 months of the year when you can be outside. Nothing beats the beach view and the whole beachfront atmosphere. The food is worth it but the entire experience is a must. I forgot to mention, if you're a fan of Wicked Tuna, you have a good chance of seeing the captains eating here. My friend visited from NYC and I brought him because he is a huge fan and BOOM! Wicked Tuna was right behind us!
Be the first to ReplyThe entire experience from start to finish is marvelous.
Cocktails well made; interesting starters; not rushed; excellent service.

TLDR; expensive, mediocre food that tastes store bought and frozen, and very slow service. My husband and I were there yesterday for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We actually dined here on our wedding night, a year ago- that's why we chose this place. The ambiance is nice, great decor, view etc. however, the food is extremely sub par. We ordered the crab cakes for an app- which was good but is hard to mess up. My husband ordered a NY strip, and he stated that it was ok, but was overly salted and was difficult to eat as such. He also said he would have hoped for more out of a $48 steak.... He said that the fried onions tasted like the kind you can get out of a can at the grocery store. He also didn't much care for the Italian cream soda, that was a very off tasting drink I had the lobster linguine (without pancetta) it was not great. And also for $48 I expected a lot more. It honestly tasted like frozen lobster and had the weirdest after taste. I found several shells in my meal too, which I wouldn't have expected with those prices. I brought it home as leftovers and tried to save it with olive oil and Parmesan and it did not help. I couldn't finish it which was a shame, since I hate wasting money and food. The server was nice enough but kind of scarce, and the service was incredibly slow. There were only 3 other parties there when we went and it took about 45 minutes for us to get our food. Also I did observe a lot of staff hanging around on their phones and chatting- which generally doesn't bother me per se, but I am stating that for a restaurant of this caliber I did expect more. After $175 bill for 2 people, we were very disappointed and won't be returning for our next anniversary as we had initially hoped to.
Be the first to ReplyWe had dinner last night at our favorite.
.Perfect night and the bonus was havng Holly as a server. What a joy! Great attitude and so very pleasant and "right on top of all"!!! Holly is an asset to 1606 and she loves her job and it shows! Wonderful having Beauport/1606, it is as if you are "on a Vacation:! So much controversy, before...BUT, what a great asset to Gloucester! We LOVE Beautport and 1606!

Food, service, and setting were great! We were there at night but I'm sure the view is outstanding during the day / at sunset. A little surprised by the negative reviews as this was not our experience at all! We had lobster bisque, crab cakes, mussels, oysters, and cheese plate.
Be the first to ReplyA friend and I ate here this past Saturday night, 3/18.
We both ordered burgers and nothing else; both got really sick within a few hours later. When I called and spoke to Emily her response was "well we serve around a hundred burgers on the weekend, and no one else has complained" - not that I'm surprised by the response even if there were complaints I wasn't expecting her to tell me this. Not looking for compensation or apologies, just don't want anyone else getting sick. This ruined my next 3 days and I don't want it happening to anyone else. Just a heads up.
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance.
Seats. View. Cozy atmosphere. Attentive service. And food worth the money. Our bill at 110 Grill for 3 steaks was more than double our bill here.
Be the first to ReplyLovely spot, good service.
Lobster bisque and grilled octopus, excellent. Lobster gnocchi NOT good. It was dry, seasonless and the gnocchi were undercooked, VERY disappointing. Fish fry was excellent, very fresh. Crispy duck was very good, a tad over cooked. All in all, a pretty restaurant with good service and a beautiful view. Just do not order the gnocchi for $46. When I told our very pleasant server about the dish he pointed to the salt and brought out some more drawn butter. :(

Located on the lobby level of the magnificent Beauport Hotel Gloucester, with its charming, warm décor, a relaxed yet upscale ambiance, and delicious food, 1606 provides a stunning Cape Ann dining experience with more to be desired. Will be looking forward to our return visit in the near future.
Be the first to ReplyI ate here on my first night visiting Massachusetts a few
I ate here on my first night visiting Massachusetts a few months ago. The restaurant is located in the gorgeous Beauport Hotel overlooking the ocean. The foods I tried were pretty hit or miss, but the dishes that were a hit were incredible. This restaurant has hands down the best crab cake I've ever had. I can't see how any place could do it better. Another honorable mention to the Brussels sprouts side dish that was packed with flavor and could've been a meal on its own. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with the entrees I tried, but not enough so to deter me from going back when I am in town again. The baked haddock was sort of bland, and the lobster and foraged mushroom gnocchi wasn't for me but would be fine for someone who loves mushrooms. The service was fine, and I enjoyed my time here. I would definitely like to return.

This is a consistently good restaurant that gets high marks for delicious creative cuisine in a picturesque setting overlooking the water. Friendly professional service, great cocktails and wine selection. Needless to say the seafood options are many and always on point, swordfish on our last visit was incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly. Lobster bisque, sea scallops, chilled local oysters, and seasonal composed oysters are all regular options on the menu plus plenty of vegetarian options, and usually a duck entree and also chicken, beef, and small bites and sandwiches fill up the extensive menu. Loyal, local following is always a sure sign of a great restaurant. Weekday lunches and dinners are a better choice than the bustling weekends here if there's a choice. On site free parking is somewhat limited during busy season but valet parking is also available.
Be the first to ReplyQuite possibly the rudest waitress and bartender in
Quite possibly the rudest waitress and bartender in Gloucester. We called and they said bar and patio tables are first come, first serve. A hostess told us to take some seats and the waitress snarled, "You can't just sit there." She was rude and dismissive until we decided to leave. I had asked about seats at the bar and the bartender said flatly there are six people waiting for those three seats and walked away. Look, I get that they have house rules or whatever. But you don't have to be so utterly disdainful to people who just show up because they heard it has a great view. I will never go back.

Be the first to ReplyThe goal of this hotel and restaurant are to be
The goal of this hotel and restaurant are to be aesthetically pleasing. The buck stops there. Ordered the tuna ceviche which while plated nicely had a caked topping of avocado which seem like it came out it a tub followed by a HEAVY drizzle or Mayo. The flavor was not there. Also ordered the seasonal crudo. The cuts of fish were SO thick it was unappealing to cut and eat. Crudo was topped with citrus segments and micro greens. Not one bit of salt or pepper was on the plate. The wife got the meze platter which sounded and looked good but the falafel was undercooked, the feta was similar to that of a stop and shop level, the tzatziki and baba ganoush portions were anemic. And the naan was simply not naan at all. The servers were friendly and attentive but beyond that for a place on the water the seafood is flavorless. Breakfast the next morning I ordered a typical breakfast the home fries were old and dry. The eggs were cooked to my liking and the sourdough toast was good. The sausage was not bad either. Side note how are you going to be a swanky breakfast place and not have Bloody Mary until 10am Also asked for hot sauce for my breakfast and they had to run into the kitchen and bring back what was obviously from the kitchen pantry a rather large bottle of tobasco sauce. If you like flavor find a different venue.

We started with a beautiful view on the deck , followed by appetizers. I highly recommend the Burrata. Although this is in a fishing community, I had the best bacon cheeseburger!! I think it was called the 1606 burger. Generous size with cheddar, crispy bacon and a wonderful tomato. The roll was really nice too. The baked haddock was also also a big hit in my group. The service was flawless. I think he said his name was Juan.
Be the first to ReplyThe Beauport was recommend for a weekend get away.
Attended the 1606 bar on a Sunday evening and it was busy and lively! Tough to get a seat at the bar but once we did we really enjoyed it! Both the chowder and lobster bisque were delicious along with the mussels! A fellow customer bought pistachio profiteroles for the whole side of the bar because he said they were so good we had to try them! I thought the price fit the customer service and quality of the food. It was so good we went back for lunch before going home Clam ChowderLobster Bisque

We visited the 1606 Restaurant in the Beauport Hotel in Gloucester just before Christmas and were very impressed with the service the staff provided - including our server, her team, and the restaurant manager. Our server, Chelsea, was very accommodating and attentive, and she went the extra mile for each request. The restaurant manager, John, made sure that everything was handled perfectly, and he prioritized the positive experiences of the guests. The atmosphere was beautiful and festive and very welcoming to its patrons. We are looking forward to visiting again.

We decided not to dine because of it.The greeter had an unfriendly tone and appeared to be annoyed.Covid protocols here are inconsistent. The front desk staff were all wearing masks yet none of the restaurant and bar employees were. We realize mask wearing is not required for vaccinated individuals in some situations. However, when our unmasked waitress came too close and leaned over our table while speaking we had enough and decided to leave. Given the current requirement of masks whether vaccinated or not in so many public spaces we do not understand the casual approach by this establishment. You probably will not lose business by wearing masks but you certainly did lose it by not wearing them and by not distancing yourselves appropriately.
