It was our anniversary, and by online reservation, we requested a window table inside for dinner at 7:30 pm. I even called by phone in the afternoon to confirm and request again the window table upstairs. They confirmed. When we arrived (on time) I reminded them a third time that we had requested a window table. It was our wedding anniversary, we were in Sydney for 2+ days, and I wanted everything to be perfect for my wife. When we were taken to the upstairs dining room, we were seated at a table in the middle of the room. (The prime view window table had apparently just been given away to a couple who had been seated a bit earlier, that is, they gave away the table I had requested 3 times.) The table we wanted was taken, and to make things worse, we were seated at a table that wasn’t even a window tables. There were window tables free. So I had to get up and go ask the server if we could change the table to a free table with a side window view so at least we would have some kind of window. Obviously patron preferences mean very little to 6Head. At least after requesting a free window table (the FOURTH time), the server moved us to a side window after she had a long consultation with someone downstairs. (There were window tables sitting empty the entire time were there.) I ordered the Wagyu steak RARE, and it arrived medium with a slight center medium rare. I have only sent food back maybe twice in my life (I’m 68 years old) but for 300 grams of steak costing A$130+, I decided 6Head should prepare the steak as ordered. The more senior server took the overcooked steak, but then took our salad too, even though we told her the salad was fine and wanted to keep it. She said no and confiscated our salad. We sat for another 20 minutes waiting for food. Obviously no one at 6Head was paying attention nor cared what their diners actually wanted. To add insult to injury, the music was ridiculously loud for a supposedly high-end steak restaurant, so we asked nicely if our very good server could turn it down just a bit. Thankfully, the Management did turn it down a bit, Thank goodness, or we would have left there and then. Shorter story: the servers were lovely; tge food is good; the restaurant management and operations are horrible. After finally getting a rare Wagyu steak and eating most of it (it was very nice), I asked for the check. They took my credit card, and after about 15 minutes, a different server brought over a complimentary dessert that we didn’t ask for, didn’t want, and didn’t eat. Asked for the check again. About 10 minutes later while still waiting for my bill, the Manager came over and apologized and asked us to come back tomorrow for a complimentary meal. So I guess they knew we weren’t happy with their establishment. I again asked for the check so could leave, (We have a full schedule tomorrow and are leaving Sydney in about 36 hours so that offer of a complimentary meal wasn’t particularly helpful.) The manager then comped the bill ( which was ridiculous—fix the problems before they happen not after), and that indicated to me that she knew they hadn’t performed as expected. Consequently I was even more offended. I told her, “I ate here, I’ll pay for it as is proper, but I will never ever come back.” After a long discussion with the Manager and wanting to leave, I even had to ask for my credit card back. She apologized and finally retrieved my card after 5-10 minutes. Clearly the right hand has no idea what the left had is doing. In summary, the food is excellent (when cooked according to patron instructions), and the servers are very nice. But the Management of this restaurant is seriously subpar for the highbrow place it purports to be. Terrible management and operations made the entire experience awful. Avoid it. There are much better run high-end food establishments in Sydney. In sum, 6Head ruined our anniversary. Don’t let them ruin yours.
