Had some expectations for 9 Jones because of the events
Had some expectations for 9 Jones because of the events I've seen there and the people attending those events. Maybe there was a different chef or attention to food those nights. Food: okay, not bad, not great. Tuna tartare was very fresh but no seasoning. Octopus was cooked well, great garnish, maybe more salty than necessary. Santorini burger - not in a pita like written in the menu, but a huge bun. Not easy to eat and had to use life and fork to take bites. Taste of the meat was okay, maybe a little dry. Would stop there for a drink. Those were great!
Be the first to ReplyThe place is dark and too noisy.
I asked if they could lower the volume, and no one did. They said they would tell the chef and he did not lower the volume. I went to a back table and it was loud. Someone else said they'd lower the volume; they did not. I left and saw the chef outside. We talked about being Greek and I asked why he did not lower the volume. I forgot what he said. This is not a big club for music to be so loud. Most would not enjoy dinner or be able to have a conversation. The espresso martini was okay, but I would have rather saved my money and head.He showed me a photograph of his wife and himself, as if I asked for that or would not rather look at myself in photographs!

This place was so bizarre- I was super excited as upon entry the vibes were high, fun music etc. I had a 730 reservation and my party of 4 was not seated until 815. From the second we sat down my whole party felt rushed. We ordered a round of drinks, the drink we all wanted we were told they were sold out of as the cocktails are batch made. We asked if they could make a similar beverage and they said no as they don't have a lot of the ingredients on hand so we just ordered the Champaign/ caviar bump special instead. We also then tried to put in our appetizers and was told that the chef prefers the whole order at once which is fine as normally when a restaurant requests this it is to course out the meal , however that was not the case at 9jones. Our apps, entrees and sides were all dropped at once- there was so much food we could barely fit the plates on the table. Also we wouldn't even be half done and the waiters would come by and try to swipe the plates even tho there was so much food left on them and we were still picking. At one point I literally had to grab the plate back from them and say we are still working and not done yet. Once we were finished our waiter didn't even ask for desert or any more drinks and just brought over the bill. We were out of there by 910pm not even a full hour at the table and left just thinking how bizarre the whole experience was & how we will not be returning.

I don't write too many reviews, but had such an amazing experience. First off, went with a larger group and they were very accommodating. The food is amazing. We had the lobster pasta, branzino and chicken. The food is phenomenal. We were stuffed, but opted for dessert. The dessert was amazing, definitely try the cheesecake. We had wine and dirty martinis. If you're a dirty martini with blue cheese olive person, this is a must. They have truffle bleu cheese olives I will be thinking about forever. The service was amazing, everyone is very friendly and managers touched tables. Will be going back asap!

I went to 9 Jones for the first time after seeing it on Instagram. The service was very slow from the start; there were only 2 waitresses managing several tables. It took about 25 minutes to receive our cocktails, which did not have any alcohol in them. While we got our appetizers quickly, it took 1.5 hours to receive our main course, which was overcooked and had to be sent back. It took an additional 20 minutes to get the new entree. While the food overall was good, the combination of the service, cocktails, and length of time it does not make this restaurant worth it, especially given the price. I would not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, rude wait staff, not worth the money.
I came here with a few girlfriends hoping for good service, good cocktails, and better food. We were met with none of the above. I know drinks are expensive these days, but these drinks were just not up-to-par. Their "most popular" cocktail; the "Dirty Disco" tasted like a $19 cup of lemonade. Do better. The food was eh! Nothing to write home about. Lastly, the waitstaff and service, horrible. You go to a restaurant to enjoy yourself and not feel rushed. Every 5 minutes, our waiter would come over asking us to order our food, and then come back a minute later asking again. It was extremely "annoying" to say the least. Lastly, it was a friends birthday, so we ordered a small dessert with a candle at the end of the meal. When the bill came, we were charged $12 for the candle. If that's not embarrassing, than I don't know what is.

This new polished gem is located in the West Village just off the busy traffic of Christopher Street. The people behind this wonderful Greek eatery were nice enough to name it '9 Jones' in homage to 9 Jones Street. Its perfect orange glow from within creates a welcoming atmosphere. Soft dark blue velvet upholstery with black and white suggestive art looks quite fitting for the venue, a standout feature for its high-end clientele. As for the food, the presentation of the lobster pasta tells you how fresh it really is. Don't like seafood? Then there are the amazing lamb burgers and lamb chops that epitomize what it tastes like in Greece. On the other hand, I can see myself being very satisfied with the unique appetizers and cocktails they provide.
Be the first to ReplyI have very mixed feelings writing this.
I really wanted to love it. It's definitely been hyped up and they've done a great job getting promoted. But here if our experience:We arrived at 5:08 for a 5:00pm reservation. The hostess, who is arguably the rudest hostess I've encountered in my 17 years of living in NYC, told us that she would seat us, but we were late and they were going to need the table back as there are other reservations. We were 8 mins late, not 30 mins...that is such a ridiculous thing to say. So then the waitress came. As a party of 3, we ordered 4 appetizers - the octopus, crisps, tuna tartare, and saganaki. They were all quite good. Made us excited for the main dishes...however, they were mediocre. We had the zucchini puttanesca (which was good), the burger (which was over cooked) and the lobster pasta (which had amazing presentation but fell massively flat...especially for $78!). They got one of our side dishes wrong. We then ordered 3 desserts...of which only two were brought out. No one knows what happened to the third. The cookie dish was very good; the other was okay. The cocktails were great (they really did this well). The wine was underwhelming -- they didn't have many of the bottles on their menu and jammed us with something mediocre (they didn't have several bottles from the menu we requested). The inside was a little loud. And then, after paying $800 for our dinner for 3...the hostess came up to our table with the opening line of "Hi, you've been at your table for 3 hours and have exceeded your limit. We need to give your table to someone else. But you're welcome to go to the bar." Now, we had just paid the bill (less than five minutes earlier). Look, there is a right way and a wrong way to handle that -- and she handled it horribly. Her tone. Her approach. Everything was rude. The whole beginning and ending of the evening was completely ruined by her. We chalked a lot of their misses up to them being new (only open 3 weeks) but the level of service was the tipping point and the reason I feel compelled to share this review. Just a massive failure. I feel like to compete in the top tier of restaurants in this neighborhood (and city) you have to have that down...and this hostess was a rude jerk (PG version) and completely ruined our evening which is unfortunate. We have no intention of going back and would not recommend it to any of our friends. I'm sorry -- but if you want to be successful in the West Village, you need to do much better. Hopefully they get it together. Btw. We ate at Crown Shy last night. It was worth every dollar and was an absolutely amazing meal and experience (just wish it was in the West Village). We would 1000x go back to Crown Shy.

First time in 9 Jones and YOU have to go! It's the sexiest little spot with amazing food. The lamb chops were to die for. IT WAS FIRE!! The service we received was amazing and we will definitely be back again. They made us feel welcomed and accommodated us in every way. Truly a dining experience not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure why people are giving two stars, but definitely
Not sure why people are giving two stars, but definitely not a 5 star either. Here's where I'm at after my visit... I was very curious to try it given the team that opened it and the fact that I live a few blocks away, plus I am a sucker for a lobster pasta (photo included). I went into expecting it to be a mix of Carbone and Jue Lan (in its current state) and that's about what it was. The food was good but hideously overpriced and there is no explanation that can make me think differently. The vibe was fun but acoustics were poor and the decor a bit forced. Staff was super friendly and helpful but clear they could use a bit more training (not faulting them for that as they just opened but the priced demand better service like pacing the delivery of food, making sure wine arrives with your mains, checking in at the right intervals, etc). Overall, I liked the food and there are other things on the menu I would want to try but I can't get past what they are charging for it. Don't get me wrong I live in the West Village and have been to most of the popular spots in NY and aborad; no problem paying a lot for food that is worth it, this just isn't well matched. Also we didn't go for the hyped cocktail trolley mainly because it was literally nothing more than bottle service at your dinner table. I could see paying the $150-$200 for it if the bartender came over to mix them on demand or something but a small bottle of liquor with "mixers" and limes can't make a good cocktail. TLDR:1) Overall good food that is worth eating2) Way too overpriced3) Too cramped and loud4) Good staff
