abcV New York Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing vegan dining in New York City!! abcV
Amazing vegan dining in New York City!! abcV kitchen Address: 38 E 19th St, New York, NY 10003 Phone: (212) 475-5829 abcV is a phenomenal restaurant. We are 100% plant-based. While abcV is 95% plant-based and plant-forward. The remaining portion of the menu is easily available as plant-based/vegan The food was mouthwatering, brilliantly crafted, and delightfully health-giving. Having dined at some of the finest restaurants around the world, we find that this spot rivals, and in many cases surpasses, all others. Our most recent visit was a mid-morning couple's dining stop--our answer to a calling to bring pure health and exquisite taste into our bodies and souls. abcV was the perfect answer. We indulged in the unique "Pollen" smoothie (pollen, jungle peanut butter, dates, banana, almond milk, Himalayan salt). I can't emphasize enough how delicious this chilled and creamy culinary delight was! Served elegantly in a cabernet-style wine glass, I could immediately feel my cells rejuvenate with this healthy creation. The warm vegan croissant was also lovely, with just the right amount of flakiness, perfectly paired with homemade apple butter--yum! Another 'must-have' highlight was abcV's take on Avocado Toast, enhanced with Virgin Coconut & Argan Oils, Crunchy Seeds, Cumin, Sprouts, and perfectly shaved carrots. Wow! Thank you, abcV! We can't wait to return!
This place seemed like a great find.
However, the service and the ambiance is so terrible, it really deserves the one star. It's not worth the market price for what you're paying. These were the major issues we noticed: - Stained menus - There is nothing more appetizing than being given a menu with hideous food stains from multiple previous customers. Please if the average cost of a meal is $50-100 per person, you can afford to print a few new menus. - Small plates - yes, the concept is tapas style food. All of the portions are small. However, this is not spelled out anywhere in the menu. For ordering purposes, I would estimate 5-6 dishes for two people (if you are moderately hungry) - Really uncomfortable chairs that make the dining experience unpleasant at best. - Poorly paced tapas. Okay.. so it's kind of ridiculous how little effort goes into prepping the food to get to the table. It's done in a way that really destroys your ability to enjoy eating it. - Rude staff all around. Beautiful vegetarian restaurant by Chef Jean-Georges.
The dishes were unique and yummy, but we didn't quite think they were good enough for the fine dining price and portions. Still, a great place to splurge for special occasions especially if you have strictly vegetarian friends!! They recommend family style and ordering 2-3 dishes per person, with each dish being around $30. **old review from summer 2023**

it was good! the veggies were really fresh and the waiter was really attentive. pretty pricey when you think about the fact that you're paying $30 for a cauliflower head, but a really fun dining experience regardless. cauliflower, dosa, lentils - overrated non alcoholic drinks - so fun get the inari/pea/rice thing! omg soo good. same with the maitake, california dates yummmm choc cake is good but not worth $18... man

I took myself on a solo date to abcV, and over all I'm glad I went. This was far beyond my typical going-out budget, but I decided to treat myself. So my review is the review of someone not generally familiar with fine dining. Here are my thoughts on what I ordered: 1. love conquers all non-alcoholic sparkling elixir: This smelled divine! I kept swishing it around in the glass just to catch the fragrance. The flavor was delicate and flower-forward, and paired nicely with my meal. 2. cornmeal crusted maitake & king oyster mushroom cultured cashew lime leaf, passion fruit, aji dulce pepper sauce I normally don't like the texture of mushrooms, but these were well-prepared, and the breading was just the right amount of crispy. The balance of flavors between the lime and pepper sauce was exquisite. In fact, I loved the pepper sauce so much that I wanted to drink what was left over after finishing the oysters, haha. If they ever sold the pepper sauce in a bottle, I'd buy it! (And I'm saying this as a Trinidadian who grew up on homemade scorpion chili hot sauce, so that's a huge compliment coming from me). 3. roasted provençal white asparagus (yuzu mustard, mandarinquat, olive, black fennel) I was honestly so disappointed by this one! :( My server said twice that this was a very popular dish, so I took the risk and ordered it, but the flavors were just not right. The asparagus was bland and too mushy, and the mustard was overpowering. I gave up halfway through my second asparagus and just ate the candied orange garnish, which was the redemption point of the dish. 4. agni tea (chrysanthemum, saffron, cardamom, hibiscus, mint, tulsi) I'm a big tea person, and I was so impressed with this tea! I had this alongside my pistachio tart, and normally when you get tea with a dessert, the tea's flavor seems pale in comparison. But this was such a lovely blend, I might order some from the Silver Tips website to keep at home. 5. rhubarb & pistachio frangipane tart with pistachio ice cream OUTSTANDING! One of the best desserts I've ever had, truly! The flavors and textures were balanced so well. When I saw the chef I told her as much! And even though I normally don't go to places where desserts cost $18, this price point felt reasonable for the size and density of the dessert. I would bring my friends next time just so they can taste it for themselves! Other notes: The service was smooth, and the ambiance / noise level was reasonable for how busy the place was. Would I ever come back here for a full meal? Maybe, if I found myself in a position to splurge again. But just for dessert, absolutely!
Very good
Ideal place for someone vegan or vegetarian / very good, simple and appetizing cuisine / good desserts too / friendly atmosphere
Favorite dish was the walnut bolognese or the purple yam.
Dosa - it is unstuffed and pretty basic, better to get it at an authentic indian place instead. Beets - this time they were a fibrous and less flavorful. Chickpea hummus - kind of bland, wish we had gotten a different starter. Beluga lentils - not worth it. We only tried it because they were out of the cauliflower.
Not impressed, sorry.
Was really busy brunch and servers were doing their best but honestly the food is ordinary and expensive for the portion sizes. Almond bananas pancakes were good but eggs on seared mushrooms bland and not at all seared, scrambled eggs also blah and small portion that took 40 mins to get... food took so long to get we canceled something and they were able to pull the ticket because it was still waiting to be made.... Sarabeth's or the smith better and better value for brunch.

Came in here a couple weeks ago when my friend, who is a vegetarian, came to visit NYC. Seemed like a nice place, with clean tables and a smiling hostess. My friend had a vegetarian burger. Hemp I believe. It was still cold on the inside. So she didnt eat the rest. I had a green spaghetti dish. I wasn't a fan, overdone and bland, but then again I'm not a vegetarian and don't know the norm for vegetarian/vegan food. I'd think though, at the least, they could make dishes edible for those of us who are either branching out, or suffering a fellow vegetarian and eating there with them. Oh well. The thing that really annoyed me though was the cook in the back. Younger woman. I saw that there were police officers coming in for a call or to use the bathroom or something. They didn't interact with her but every time she went past them she threw her hands up dramatically and did the "hands up don't shoot" bit like it was her job. This happened 3 times so I knew it wasn't a misconception on my part. It made us feel uncomfortable, like we were in an antagonistic atmosphere. We just came there to eat. That's it. It was just unnecessary. I understand and agree that everyone is entitled to their opinions and free speech, but at your place of employment? Remember you're representing the company in everything you do/say. Maybe the management should focus more on their workers cooking and preparing food instead of making political statements at a restaurant.

Lunch at abcV is surprisingly good as we didn't expect the plant based food menu. I just wanted to grab some lunch with my wife. It was like stumbling into a secret society where the members wield spatulas instead of swords and are on a valiant quest to elevate plant-based eating from mere sustenance to an art form. They don't just serve food; they serve enlightenment on a platter, with a side of cosmic wisdom and a sprinkle of culinary wizardry. Imagine if a Zen garden and a high-end spa had a love child, and that love child decided to open a restaurant with high vibration foods, balance and beauty, wellness, wisdom, and love? So much love, I feel the urge to hug my waiter (consensually, of course) but my wife said no. It's all designed to nurture not just our personal ecosystems but the planetary one as well. Eating here, I can't help but feel like I'm saving the world, one bite at a time. And the food--it's like each dish has been kissed by Mother Nature herself, then sent to culinary school. Who knew vegetables could be this indulgent? I half-expected the broccoli to levitate off my plate, such was the level of enlightenment it apparently possessed. My wife and I shared a dish that I'm convinced had achieved nirvana, and for a moment, I saw the universe in a grain of quinoa. abcV is an experience that transcends the mere act of eating. It's a culinary journey that promises not just a meal but a shift in consciousness. I left with a newfound appreciation for the humble vegetable. And perhaps, just perhaps, a yearning to nurture my own personal and planetary ecosystem--with a bit more wisdom, love, and a dash of deliciousness.

Where to begin.
Abcv and abc go tf off. The ambiance, service, food, everything: divine. Delicious. Relaxing, charming, elegant but cozy environment. Was in NYC for 1 night and had to come here.
abcV is an incredible intimate dining experience for anyone
abcV is an incredible intimate dining experience for anyone who appreciates vegetables at their peak flavor. The small plates sharing format means we got to try several dishes and portion sizes were great where 4 was enough for two people. My favorite dish was actually the green hummus. They also had a few off menu specials including this special grain that is harvested by burning. Decor is beautiful and the ambience is romantic and calming with the light hues and quiet chatter. Service was top notch. Note the entrance can be tricky to find as there is no signage outsid .
There were definitely a few standouts at abcV - love
There were definitely a few standouts at abcV - love conquers all sparkling elixir, the california dates, avocado lettuce cups, and the cappucino for me, and the dosa for my husband - I'd go back for those items alone. We weren't sure how full we would be from the cauliflower so opted not to order it, even though it's their most popular dish. Will have to try it another time. We loved the elixir - it was like having a nice buzz, without having any alcohol. The dates were perfect bites of flavor explosion. The avocado cups brought me back to my childhood - I have no idea how the chef managed to recreate the flavors of an Indian dish called pani puri with these lettuce cups, but they did and man I could have ordered that dish two more times! It really made me miss my mom. My husband liked the dosa, but I think I am too much of a purist when it comes to dosa and prefer the traditional version. We ordered a mushroom dish (I cannot recall the name), but we should have probably researched the type of mushroom because it had an incredibly fishy smell and taste and I couldn't stand it. If you like that flavor, you'll like it, but it wasn't for us. We ordered the coconut sticky rice to go with this dish, but they forgot to bring the two items out together, so our rice was cold by the time the entree arrived and it didn't appeal to us as much. The waited offered to refire it, which was kind, but it would have been a waste of food and time and we didn't care for the taste of the mushrooms anyway. I am pretty sure we got dessert, but it wasn't memorable, however that cappuccino was! I will definitely be stopping in for another very soon. The service was fantastic from the moment we entered the door to being seated until we left. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and I loved how honest he was about the dishes after we told him our preferences. The vibe at abcV was much larger than I was anticipating, it felt like being in a big, fancy dining hall, but once you're at your table you didn't feel it as much. Definitely looking forward to going back to try a couple of the other dishes and getting that cappucino again :)
Good stuff here! Really creative dishes at this place.
Haven't been in a little while so I'm curious to know what they're doing for seasonal veggies right now.
All of it is wonderful! Highly recommend if you're looking

Have a healthy, unique vegan meal!
abc v in The Tin Building at South Street Seaport was very pleasant. The food is vegetarian, mostly vegan. The presentation of the food was lovely, some of the vegetables and spices are unique, but the portions are rather small.
Wouldn't return. Too fast, too expensive, and not the dining experience we were hoping for.
Disappointing. While some of the dishes - such as the green chickpea hummus, the crunchy cornmeal chicken of the woods, and the desserts, like the apple tarte tatin, were fabulous, some of the others like the beluga lentils were tasteless. In addition, the portions of the hummus and the three desserts that we had were tiny. The place was NOISY, and the service was very rushed. Our group of six spent close to $600 with tip for six entrees, six appetizers, three desserts, and three beers. Way overpriced. We were out fast. This is not a place to linger. The check will land on your table before you ask for it. Won't return.
A few good dishes ruined by poor service
We had tried to book ABCV on a trip a few years ago off the back of a recommendation of a friend. It had filled up so made sure to book a month in advance to avoid the same issue this time. We had wanted to book brunch but it wasn't clear at the time of booking that this is only available at the weekend so this was a little disappointing finding out after we arrived. Initially we didn't know where the restaurant was due to building work outside and no clear signage. We found our way in and was greeted in. We were a family of three and was shown to our table. Despite booking way in advance and initially there not being huge amounts of people in we were given a table that was clearly meant for two but was set for three. Not only this but one of the seats was in a doorway so people were regularly walking past. We were asked if we had any dietary requirements and advised me and my husband were vegan to which there was no response. We weren't advised if all the dishes were vegan or how to identify ones that weren't. It claims it's all vegan but serves eggs so it would have been good to know if any other dishes did or didn't include milk or eggs. We ordered drinks and some sharing entrees. We weren't made aware these were all sharing plates but on looking around this would have been useful to know up front. As we had expected brunch and given we brought our son we had asked if it would be possible to order pancakes. It was refused and were given the menu to order a different item. I could practically feel the eye rolls from the server. Things like forks were replaced when plates taken so as a new dish came out we had to ask for these. We weren't checked on regularly and it was difficult to order more drinks etc. Our menus were removed after ordering some sharing mains and were never asked if we wanted more but simply delivered with a bill and we were like "ok, I guess we're leaving then". The food was delicious, we would have liked to have eaten more but we had no menus and weren't given the choice. The service frankly was uptight, rude and ruined the whole experience. There was only one of the waiting staff who came over with our drinks who was super friendly and had he served us throughout I can imagine our whole experience would have been different. When you're paying $300 for some lunch (which our son just had scrambled eggs) you don't want to feel like you're doing them a favour. You want to feel appreciated and leave feeling happy. I wanted to love it but I just didn't.
Amazing Vegan Food
The restaurant is very beautiful and great service. Very good vegan option: real vegan and not ‘vegan burger’ or ‘vegan carbonara’. Only negative side: too salty, really too salty!
