Afternoon Tea at Claridge's London Reviews from The Last Year
Simply the best in London on every visit! Beautiful flowers
Simply the best in London on every visit! Beautiful flowers in the middle of the dining room and staff have been there for years giving great service! We had thought about tying the new Peninsula but friends said they wished they had stayed at Claridge's. Our granddaughter wants to live on the top floor there. Highly recommended this hotel.

My family and I came for afternoon tea and had a wonderful experience. Robert took such great care of us. The attention to detail, the generosity of service and food was outstanding and matched the price point. It was truly a unique experience that we will never regret. Highly recommend afternoon tea at Claridge Hotel.
Disappointing start…..
Booked in for the afternoon tea. Great experience and very attentive however it did lack the wow factor for me. Lack of wow factor was probably down to a bad start, we asked if we could go for a drink as we arrived early……..no problem however upon being escorted and seated in a very small snug bar we simply got ignored for 20mins, at that point we got up and left. Not sure what happened to cause this however staff fully aware we arrived as it was the bar host who seated us. Wimbledon tea was good all be it the sandwiches did lack the detail you would expect for such an exclusive and pricey experience. All that being said, bucket list ticked.
Customer treatment.
My wife, three daughters, son-in-law and I arrived at 5:10 for a 5:30 reservation at their restaurant. Security came over and asked what we were doing there at 5:20. None of us was dressed like a homeless person. Not one of us was loud or inappropriate. When we said we were waiting for our dinner reservation, she actually went in to check if we were in fact on the list! This place is a pompous racist dump, and should be avoided at all costs.
While on my trip to the UK, I've had locals tell me that
While on my trip to the UK, I've had locals tell me that Claridges is the absolute best place to get cream tea and I couldn't agree more. Super posh with decor and service to match, it was one of the more exquisite dining experiences I've ever had. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly, and for my mom who is N/A, a glass of non-alcoholic bubbly which was exceptional. Our meal consisted of five finger sandwiches, which fortunately were customizable based on my dietary restrictions. I don't eat egg or salmon and those typical options were replaced with a celeriac and truffle cream sandwich and a butternut squash sandwich. Both were excellent. The classics were cucumber and cream cheese, chicken salad, and ham, which honestly was the best of the night. One of my favorite things was that we were able to order more of any sandwiches we wanted! I got seconds of the celeriac and the ham, which were the standouts. Next came the scones with clotted cream and house made raspberry jam as well as the assortment of petit fours. The day's selection included a red berry tart with jasmine tea, a chocolate and coffee choux, a blueberry and elderflower mousse, and almond cake with mango compote & coconut cream. Sooooo decadent. The best by far was the blueberry and elderflower mousse which tasted like springtime. Over the course of our meal we each sampled three different teas, the best of which was an Oolong tea called Malawi Antler, which gave off an earthy scent but tasted more like stone fruits. The next time I'm in London I'll definitely seek tea at Claridge's out, and highly recommend you do the same!
Disappointing Expensive Experience
I chose Claridge’s for afternoon high tea after considering a number of other options including the Ritz, Savoy and Connaught. The criteria included the food and tea offered, as well as atmosphere and service. Unfortunately Claridge’s service in The Foyer was in my opinion lacking, clumsy and indifferent. Claridge’s is a truly beautiful hotel with outstanding Art Deco period details and flower arrangements everywhere. This includes the Foyer where high tea was served. On being seated we both noted that the jacket our waiter was wearing was crumpled and had stains when he introduced himself. The sandwiches were delicious and pastries exquisite. There is a wonderful selection of rare teas. However, our tea arrived after we had eaten our sandwiches when our waiter apologised for forgetting our teas. It then took 20 minutes to get our teapots refilled with hot water for a second pot of tea. It was not possible to catch the eye of any of the wait staff circling the tables until I raised my hand. When the waiter did appear with my second pot of tea, he was unable to fill my teacup as there was insufficient hot water in the pot. His response was to tip the teapot such that the final drops ended on the tablecloth, despite noticing this he didn’t stop. We came away disappointed and will not be returning.
Beautiful hotel but lacked service
We had a birthday lunch in The Foyer and Reading Room. The food was truly amazing, well presented and full of flavour. The hotel is so well decorated and has a really pleasant atmosphere. The downside is that tables are rather too close together, and just felt as if you were on top of each other. Also the service was lacking, we had different servers for each course and even a sauce for the fish arrived 5 minutes after we started. If you are looking for a special venue - I would choose The Ritz, far better experience
An amazing time
We came for afternoon tea, as part of my son’s 21st birthday celebrations in London. Just a truly, wonderful experience from beginning to end 🥰 service was impeccable..our waiter was so lovely, but not overbearing, as we have found in other places.Everything we ate & drank was delicious. We didn’t feel rushed..in fact, we were in there for over 3 hours. We also had a free bottle of champagne, I won’t say why, because I wouldn’t want people to just try it on…..but that did add to our experience. Would definitely recommend x
Tea at Claridges is wonderful.
theatrics is beyond compare and the Tea and sandwiches and desserts absolutely amazing .... the room is perhaps the best tea room I have been in. It is our second visit and still tres bien.... it deserve its 5 stars for an exceptional two hours.
SIMPLY THE BEST - BETTER THAN ALL THE REST! EXCEPTIONAL!
If I could rate a review higher than the TripAdvisor’s 5 points, I most certainly would. Some restaurants simply exceed excellence! I have been to hundreds of afternoon teas over the years (lucky, I know)! Many of the have been with friends and family and many with clients. But, this time, four friends were celebrating our 60th birthdays, and in my view, there was no other option for afternoon tea, but Claridge’s! Last time I went (earlier in the year) we were sat in The Reading Room. If you prefer a quieter setting, then you will enjoy The Reading Room, which is off of the main room, but we wanted to enjoy the buzziness, entertainment and experience of The Foyer. When I say ‘entertainment’, we were lucky enough to enjoy the most wonderful pianist and cellist – oh, it was perfect! We couldn’t help but thank both gentlemen as we left. But, going back to the actual afternoon tea ……. We were seated at a wonderful table and were greeted by the most charming server called Mimi – she was a delight in herself; explaining the food and everything we were about to enjoy, together with talking us through any teas and coffees – there are so many on offer. With a glass of champagne, to start us off, we had the most scrumptious selection of sandwiches delivered; smoked salmon with lemon and dill crème fraiche, roast chicken with honey mustard, roasted ham and tomato relish, egg mayo and cress, but my favourite being the gorgeous English cucumber with mint cheese! The four of us couldn’t get enough and were delighted when we were served another plate. Maybe we were all starving, or maybe they were just scrumptious and we couldn’t stop eating, but we had to ………………….. the delicious scones then arrived; freshly baked – I’m sure they were still warm, they were that fresh! Raisin and plain scones, with oodles of jam and Cornish clotted cream – yummy. But, when we were ready, after a little rest, we were served with the most mouth-watering tarts/pudding/pastries! Four each! I thought “we are never going to be eat our way through this lot”, but of course, we did! There was a different selection to that which I had had back in February – how lovely that the menu gets changed so regularly! So, a blueberry and elderflower mousse, almond cake with mango compote and coconut cream, red berry tart and a chocolate and coffee choux! Every one of them was simply delectable and heavenly! I was hoping that the girls would leave some, so that I could take them home (how common, you might say!), but of course there wasn’t a crumb left on the plates! All four of us could have sat in The Foyer all afternoon. The room itself is high and bright, with the most wonderful centerpiece – those orchids! The hotel is truly charming – the art deco – oh so stylish and elegant! And, when I think about other hotels, where we’ve had afternoon teas, the rooms are dark, with no ambience or excitement or …………. class! Lastly, ignore the bad reviews on T/A. Not that there are many, but there are a few ‘moaners’. I only wish everyone who had the most truly wonderful experience, as we did, would post! Claridge’s really is wonderful, so central and so close to Bond Street too, if you fancy a little shop afterwards! But, with the most delicious food presented – definitely my top choice in London Town.
The Perfect Place to have Tea in London!
We had a wonderful dining experience in December of 2023 when we had Tea in The Foyer at Claridges for the very first time. I have just found in my notes the name of our fantastic waiter, Jairo. He set the tone for our meal from the moment we sat down. Jairo was warm and welcoming and professional. We were meeting London friends here and our table was in the Reading Room was perfect. It was a quiet and private place to carry on our conversations. Every course of our afternoon tea was excellent. We felt wonderfully pampered and well looked after by Jairo. My husband and I come to London on a regular basis. We will be back soon!
5 star Experience
If you are looking for a special Afternoon Tea experience this is the place to visit. From start to finish we were treated like royalty and nothing was too much trouble. Chryssa made sure we could not ask for anything more. We were lucky enough to have the festive upgrade and the Christmas Pudding was divine. All the food and champagne was perfect and we had cakes to bring home as we could not eat everything. This was an exceptional Afternoon Tea! I am sure the pictures do not do it justice!
Beyond Impeccably……..
Been coming to claridges a lot over the past few months it’s my new favourite haunt while I am in London. First time in this part of the hotel. Staff are fantastic so polite and welcoming. I am a very casual dressed person so I’m in jeans, hoodie and trainers and I was still treated very nicely (compared to a lot of other London hotels where this would not happen). Got sat in a nice little corner of the restaurant which is what I asked for. The food was fantastic and the staff you cannot fault at all. The experience you get for what you pay is worth every single penny. Got given a for box of fudge ton my way out by the amazing waiter. Can’t wait to come back.
CLARIDGES not the experience you pay for!
We went here for afternoon teas as part of my sisters 50th birthday, and it wasn’t the experience we were hoping for. I wish we had booked The Savoy or The Ritz, which incidentally are cheaper. It started when we arrived by taxi, the doorman asked our taxi driver to move along, the taxi driver explained he was dropping us off, we were then greeted with a half hearted doorman opening the door for us with no greeting, he was too interested in the BMW behind us, which the other doorman was dealing with. We then went into the foyer for our afternoon tea, I know the dress code is smart casual, but a hoodie and trainers for me is not this. Our server was nice, but I felt we had more attention from other more senior servers. We had booked Claridge’s Bar for 6.45, we were taken through and were seated, we were quite happy until we realised they had us sat beside a door that leads out to the terrace, which people were using, including staff, the door was left open and the wind that was coming through was quite something. The bar staff were very apologetic, I asked one member of staff if we could move to another table, he went and spoke to the hostess and came back and said there was nothing at the moment, at that time there were a couple of tables free, he asked the hostess again later and was told, yes I have a note. We decide to finish our drinks and go elsewhere, which was a shame as we were looking forward to relaxing and having a few drinks. One of the tables was still empty when we left, so we could have had the lovely night we were looking forward to. The doormen had changed when we left and they in turn were lovely. I wouldn’t recommend and I certainly won’t be back.
Wonderful 50th anniversary celebration
We dined at Claridge’s restaurant for lunch for my parents 50th anniversary. From the moment I booked to paying the bill our experience was fantastic. The team at the restaurant emailed options for champagne on arrival and a cake to celebrate. I also wanted to have flowers delivered ahead of our arrival and they helped to ensure the flowers were received and taken to our table. We had drinks at the bar beforehand and without even informing them of who we were they brought a little dessert and happy 50th anniversary written on the plate. Once in the dining room we had a wonderful oval table to seat us comfortably- we were 6 adults and 4 children. Elizabeth and her team were so attentive and accommodating. The food was delicious- especially the halibut and beef wellington. One of the halibuts was overcooked but they quickly brought a new dish when this was raised. All of the children had an adult meal and thoroughly enjoyed them. The cake was delicious. The atmosphere as wonderful- not too quiet but enough buzz. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion. Thank you again
Perfect
Utterly delightful. Without a doubt the service, food, ambiance is worth every penny. Fabulous attention to detail. Beautifully presented selection of sandwiches which are replenished seamlessly as required. Tea selection which is explained with precision. Warm, fresh scones fluffy and gorgeous. Staff are well trained and could not have done more. Pianist tops off the overall experience. Fantastic and highly recommended.
I had such a wonderful experience here.
I went alone to afternoon tea, which I was a bit nervous about, but everyone was so welcoming and it didn't feel awkward that I was alone. The food and tea selection were delicious and overflowing. I ate so much I genuinely thought it was going to be a problem. Some things are expensive but not worth it. This was not one of them.
Came here for afternoon tea and had a great time! There was
Came here for afternoon tea and had a great time! There was beautiful decor and relaxing live music playing the whole time we were there. We were served fast and the server always made sure we got more sandwiches and tea whenever we wanted! However though the food and desserts were good and presented in a nice way, there wasn't anything that I was overly impressed by, given the high price. I would come again for the overall experience, but not for the afternoon tea menu itself.
Classy venue
I don't understand how the other reviewers failed to notice the Christmas decorations - there were loads and it was very festive. Although the Louis Vuitton "Christmas tree" in the lobby was questionable. The food was of an excellent standard and the service faultless; friendly and efficient without being intrusive. However I have a couple of minor quibbles which prevent it getting an Excellent rating: firstly if they're going to charge supplements on the festive set menu, it's not unreasonable to expect this to be reflected in the online versions nowadays. Secondly, the light in the side area was too dim - I can have trouble reading in low light, so reading the wine list was difficult. I will definitely return.
Rather disappointed
We had the afternoon tea and it was deeply disappointing. I understand it’s Christmas and may cut some slack to the staff. And they need it: the service was extremely slow and uncoordinated. But the very least you’d expect from a place of this class and pedigree is good food and great presentation. None of the above at all. No beautiful tiers that English afternoon tea is famous for. Just stacks of sandwiches that looked very industrial. Unremarkable tableware too. And of course food… the bread that sticks to your palate… I would expect on a cost cutting airline. Please, go to the nearest Brown’s and ask them for a lesson. This is not a rant, this is just a shock of discrepancy between the setting, the cost and the value.
Very disappointed
Went for lunch . Considering it was Christmas there was no Christmas theme in the restaurant. Service average, poor starter, over priced and inconsistent as table next to us were served petit four . Maitre d didn’t even present herself and had to ask who was the maitre d . We voiced our disappointment but unfortunately it fell on deaf ears , she was not interested. London has far superior restaurants than Claridges in this price bracket .
Disappointing food at outrageous prices
We thought Claridges would be the perfect place for a treat for Christmas. The Louis Vitton Christmas tree was underwhelming. We had booked for lunch and was expecting something really special. I had the recommended chicken pie and mash which was ok. The chicken seemed dry and for the price I would have expected something more exciting. The chocolate bomb dessert was nice but the limoncello dessert did not look appetising at all and was just half a lemon with some sour tasting mixture inside. Very disappointing. However it was the cheese plate which was really dreadful. Some tiny bits of cheese and none particularly exciting or interesting, a few crackers, bits of celery and grapes and a pot of tomato ketchup!!! The person serving us kept denying that it was tomato ketchup but then had to concede and took our teas and coffees off the bill. The bill was exorbitant as expected. The service was good, the cocktails and bread were probably the best part of our lunch. A complete let down and the food quality was very poor. I won’t be returning.
Plush
Claridges Foyer is sumptuous to say the least. £110 festive menu plus drinks and service. The staff were wonderful, the food delicious and quite plentiful. I recommend the gingerbread dessert.

gorgeous breakfast & setting
We picked a lovely time to visit for breakfast end of November, as the entrance and lobby were beautifully decorated for Christmas. The foyer also stunning. The breakfast croissant was very tasty, great quality. Service was flawless and staff attentive. Of course on the pricey side but overall lovely experience and I recommend. Also nice touch some sweets to choose from when leaving.
A great hotel located in the heart of London has great tea
A great hotel located in the heart of London has great tea (afternoon tea at 3 p.m.) They take several different credit cards, and have big rooms. I went there with my family years ago, and they serve delicious food. I don't have any photos or I would share them. It is not cheap, but it is definitely worth it.
