So disappointing !
So so disappointed!! Supposed to be highlight for Ruby Wedding weekend !! Overhyped … lots of choices not available - even Humous ( how difficult is that to make!!) Ambience is great but food basic and so over priced !! Don't bother !! At these prices better to go to Trattoria al Gatto Nero on Burano - Angela H was spot on with that one!! Tell Maximillan the Scouser sent you!!
Be the first to ReplyNot bad, not great - mostly overpriced
We came for dinner, and left rather disappointed. The staff is courteous, and attentive, but the food lacks flavor and inspiration. For the price we would have expected a bit more. We ordered fish for €30+ and got a bone with a small handful of meat attached. Or slice of cheesecake for €14. This would be fine if the quality or taste was there, but neither dishes were culinary highlights. Venice is expensive, it’s true, but value for money here is limited. Would come back if the food improved because the ambience is cozy.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing wine, dessert with a story
I chose this restaurant for my first trip in Venice because it is family-owned and I am so happy because it turned out to be a great choice. Went straight to the main with the brilliant cuttlefish stew, close with the traditional dessert and espresso and this was such a pleasant closure with the orange - tangerine tastes. Will come back

Extremely reduced menu and although the food quality was good, the portions were way too small. It was quiet and the service was exceptional. The waiter spoke English and Spanish quite well.
Be the first to ReplyVenice….the hidden gems to eat in!
We booked Al COVO after seeing Angela Hartnett’s Venice trip on the TV. We had an amazing time at the restaurant; the ambience was great, a really help waiter who tried to apologise for his poor English (in perfect English!) Food was delicious, the first 2 courses are now on my list of things to cook at home for date night with the wife as they were so good. Sommelier helped with my choice of Venetian Red (only drink quality local stuff when abroad) and the meal was ended with the most perfect Vanilla Gelato served by the owner, Diane (I realise my limitations and I cannot make Italian ice cream with home made liquorish sauce so sadly not on my date menu at home!) Thoroughly recommend the experience to anyone in Venice. High quality food, really pleasant atmosphere and lovely to wear a tie and jacket in a restaurant and not feel out of place as all the locals are dressed up in their finery.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the hype. Dine elsewhere.
I saw this restaurant on a tv show and was incredibly excited to visit. I was left disappointed. Everything we ate was good, I cannot fault the food it was better than average (though I wouldn’t say incredible). The service however was one of the worst we have had. Everything took a very long time, when seated it was 20+ minutes to get water, we weren’t given help with the menu, for example waited till ordering time to hear specials then had to ask for some more time. Limited guidance o. How much to order or what things come with. The price point is quite high, I don’t mind this but at this price you expect better and more prompt service. We waited 40 minutes between courses. Similar to other reviewers portions were small. The skewer was 9 small pieces of seafood for 35 Euro, it did not come with anything. The Prosecco was 10 euro a glass, not especially nice and the pour was 100ml - a little stingy. Whilst not the worst meal we have had we left a bit drained and flat as it took forever and was a meal we were looking forward to. I would give this a miss.

Have wanted to try Al Covo for years, we finally went last month. And were incredibly disappointed with the food. Heavy and pretty bland. Thinking maybe the chef was off or had an off night? Service was friendly though we felt we were rushed out of there: salad, appetiser and main course took us a speedy hour.
Be the first to ReplyAl Covo is amazing!
This restaurant deserves all of the stars! It was one of the highlights of our visit to Italy. The staff is highly professional and the owners are warm and inviting. The food is absolutely superb. We had several courses, drinks, wine and desserts. Every single aspect of our lunch was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyNice meal with great service.
More a 4.5 stars. Wonderful place to start our holiday. Service was kind and impeccable. We felt very welcomed and our servers were thoughtful and considerate of our needs. We also enjoyed our meals. It was fresh and well prepared although it was not quite a super wow culinary experience. But it was very very good nevertheless. A bit off the heavier trafficked spots in Venice which is nice.

Lovely atmosphere, attentive Crew and fresh products. We were able to secure a last minute table and we didn't regret our visit!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful dinner experience
My wife and daughter and I had dinner here on December 9, 2022, at the suggestion of Sandro, the sommelier at The Gritti Palace hotel. I immediately recognized the restaurant from the Netflix show, Somebody Feed Phil. What a treat! The food, ambiance and staff were outstanding, and graciously laughed at my corny "Phil jokes." I was greeted and bid good evening by the owners, such nice people.
Be the first to ReplyLovely staff and great food
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. We shared the soft shell crab to start and I had the monkfish kebab for main, both were great.

Managed to get a late slot for lunch at Al Covo. Everything was fabulous. Beautiful setting. Staff very friendly and attentive. Venetian water glasses, huge beautiful linen napkins, attention to details on cutlery china etc. Very smart and friendly waiters. We had razor clams and crab for starters, very plentiful, crab was beautifully presented on a silver stand. Bread selection was delicious. Main had seafood skewers and a fabulous vegetable selection. Chocolate pudding was delicious. We asked the Wine Waiter for a recommendation and it was spot on, a local wine. A throughly delightful luncheon. Even though we were one of last in for the luncheon service they never rushed us. Had a lovely chat with the owners on our way out. Loved her linen apron. The following night we went to Osteria alle Testiere. some of the staff at al Covo said we were in for a special night, sadly Osteria alle Testiere didn’t come anywhere near Al Covo. If we get back to Venice Al Covo will definitely be on my list to book, thank you so much for making out luncheon very special.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant on a less traveled side street.
We had dined at this restaurant the last time we were in Venice and really enjoyed it then. This time chose to be seated inside. The wife of the chef is from the U.S. but the staff are all Italians. We had the best stuffed zucchini blossoms we have ever had, the most delicate. Overall a great experience.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food and a beautiful experience
Taking my family to Al Covo has been the highlight of my trip to Venice. The atmosphere was refined yet cozy - the service was stellar - and the food incredible. We asked our waiter (Richard) to surprise us and pick out our meals for us. He did not disappoint! We started with the best ceviche I've ever had. It was super fresh and it reminded me of high end sashimi. The fish was perfectly balanced with acid and texture. That taste was the single best bite i had in my entire European trip. What followed that were several courses of interesting and unique local dishes that had us all smiling and and excited for then next treat. We finished with sharing several of Diane's homemade desserts. All were so good that I'm glad we tried all of them - but the Dark Chocolate cake was so good we had to order a second piece! Trust me - don't skip Diane's Chocolate cake - it is beautifully decadent! As I enjoyed my dinner - I came to see that there is something very special about Al Cova and the family that owns and runs it. Diane and Cesare, along with their son, were very welcoming. You can see the passion and love they have for Venice and their restaurant in their interactions with many of the guests. Big smiles and hugs were plentiful as patrons arrived or left. This experience is one that my family and I will cherish for many years to come.

I came here with my daughter on a recent trip to Venice to sample the food and art of the city. The food was simply amazing. The tagliolini pasta had such depth of flavour we agreed that we had never had pasta quite like it before. The fish main course was stunning - so delicate and beautifully cooked. The service was impeccable with staff so attentive. Although not the cheapest meal we had during our stay we still talk about the food we had at Al Covo and agree that it was the best culinary experience we had not only during our stay in Venice but during our whole holiday in Italy.
Be the first to ReplyLovely food, great service
It was as if every American in Venice decided to have lunch the day we went to Al Covo. The food was very good with a quirky take on Venetian dishes. I've read a couple of reviews saying the service wasn't up to scratch. We had at least 3 different people serve us and all were very helpful and enthusiastic. It's not cheap but if you want cheap go to the cheap trattoria next door and have a pizza!
Be the first to ReplyMust visit when in Venice!
Incredible food - fresh and well cooked. No generic items on the menu. Worth the visit - incredible value for what was provided. Would go again, no questions asked.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
Probably I set too high expectations but for the price tag and its name the restaurant is very so so. The food not evenly good. The service was also not evenly good. Out of several starters, past and the main course I would mention veal tonato. The worst part is desert. Coming from USA I don’t expect to find the American style chocolate cake that tastes like supermarket in This type of the restaurant.

Wonderful lunch. Greeted by friendly staff with too customer service. The food was beautiful and everything as promised. The presentation gorgeous and the server assisted with a beautiful bottle of wine to pair with our food. The restaurant is away from all the crazy tourists but still close to everything. Make a reservation in advance. We sat outside.
Be the first to ReplyIt was a very nice dinner, and we would return.
This is another of Venice’s perhaps not many very good seafood restaurants, standing out from the large crowd of average places catering to tourists, where you are treated well and dishes of the freshest seafood and delicious house-made pastas are served in a casually elegant fashion. We enjoyed a “salad” of mantis shrimp and prawns, a plate of beautiful, raw red shrimp, spaghetti with clams, tagliatelle with asparagus and peas, lump crab with its roe, and really nice “seared Sardinian red tuna ‘tataki,’’ along with a very nice 2019 Filippi Turbiana Verona Trebbiano from their impressive wine list. It was a very nice dinner, and we would return.

Great location, authentic Venitian restaurant. Lovely staff, delicious food, nice atmosphere. You must keep space for the desserts!
Be the first to ReplyPretentious
Over priced food and wine for example 38 euro for a bottle of wine that cost us 25 euro in an upmarket restaurant the following night .
The restaurant was comfortable but the food was just ok .
Always delightful
A meal here is always a great pleasure! The welcome is warm, one feels very much valued as a diner. The tramezzini served as an appetiser is delicious and subsequent dishes like cold meat platters, pasta fagioli and fritto misto display excellent sourcing of ingredients and careful, expert preparation. The ambiance is unpretentious and a meal here is thoroughly delightful!
Be the first to ReplySomebody tell Phil, this place has gone downhill
Ah, I get it now. Because this restaurant featured on the TV show Somebody Feed Phil, the owners clearly feel justified in charging high prices for very ordinary food. I guess that also explains why the place was full of American and British tourists. A lack of local diners is always a bad sign in my book. Interesting that many of the reviewers here seem obsessed with avoiding tourist traps. That's exactly the term I'd use to describe this establishment. By far the most disappointing meal of our short visit to Venice.
