Alexander's Steakhouse Pasadena Reviews from The Last Year

Went here during Mothers Day weekend and was pleasantly surprised! The place is larger than it looked on the outside, it has three sections in which to seat and one is a bar area where you can go for happy hour! We were seated and given a glass of Champaign, followed by appetizers. The bread followed with 3 different butters - salty, sweet, and savory - so tasty! Main course we ordered was worth the wait, the steak, potatoes, mushrooms -Yum! Dessert we had a crème brûlée . We were then given a tart trio and chocolate candy followed by a cotton candy! This meal was the Best!!! Defiantly going back!!!

Loved the service and the Chef and Jayce our Head waiter was terrific! I highly recommend asking for Jayce and the atmosphere was soo beautiful!
Loved this place from the location to the staff and service.
We had a great experience with the omakase tasting menu for food and wine. I would say that it's worth trying it once, but probably not something I would do again because it did not blow me away. Service was outstanding, and food was tasty, but we everyone agreed that nothing stood out after to say we need to go back and do the tasting menu again. We would go back and order off the regular menu for sure.
Going on dates is good for the relationship.
Decided to sneak off on a nice dinner date in Pasadena while Don was with his Grandma. Decided to spoil ourselves at Alexander's on this gloomy day. As always, Alexander's had this clean and luxurious steak house feel with rustic, yet modern furniture and high ceilings. Was opting for the Omakase menu, but glad we skipped and just stayed with ordering off the menu. Started the dinner off with the Hamachi Shot, which was one of the few new things we haven't tried before. To be honest, we could have done without it. It was very salty and plain. Next, I ordered the Wagyu Beef Tartare, which was really unique. It didn't come with bread on the side, so I wasn't sure how to dissect it at first because I didn't realize that it was already on top of brioche bread. I was a bigger fan of this than D. I do wish they still had the Wagyu Toast. We had a hard time deciding if we should have gotten the grilled octopus, and upon watching someone else receiving it, I'm glad we didn't. They also complimented us with potato hash, which surprisingly has been the better attempt that we ever had by far. Now for the fun part, the steaks. While we were waiting, they provided us with the specialty bread basket with their infused 3-way butters. Simple yet fantastic. Right when we packed ourselves with the bread was when our stars of the show finally arrived. The 28 oz, Westholme F1 Australian Wagyu, cooked medium rare with a second order of their 3 oz, Sanuki Farm Olive Fed A5 Wagyu also cooked medium rare; served with a collection of tasting salts. Along side the meats were a roasted garlic clove, a charred lemon, a small cup of yakiniku sauce and a charred green onion bulb. Honestly, the meat was so perfectly seasoned that we didn't need nothing with it. I ordered a side of Bone Marrow to compliment it. Although good, you don't need it, but one side that is a must order is their Mushroom Medley. I'm not sure what citrus vinaigrette they mixed in, but you'll regret not trying it. While sharing the meat platter, we were just ordering cocktails to take advantage of our time away from responsibilities. At the end, they brought out desserts. I forgot that they also always provide complimentary fresh cotton candy. This round we got a blueberry & banana flavored one. I'm not a fan of sweets, but it definitely added a nice touch to complete the dinner.
The evening didn't start out as well as I would have liked.
I reserved through Open Table and made a specific seating request. Unfortunately, my request wasn't accommodated. In fact, I was told that the last two booths were given to other guests 15 minutes prior to my on time arrival. To his credit, our server Frederic was able to salvage the evening by providing superior service. He was very apologetic, and made us feel more valued. His level of service was outstanding. He was very professional and attentive. Dinner was delicious. We both ordered the filet, which was one of the best that I've ever had. The temperature was perfect and the seasoning was spot on. We accompanied our steaks with mashed potatoes and the fried rice.

My husband made reservations at this restaurant for my birthday. We arrived on time and we were taken to a table outside. It wasn't really warm enough for outside dining (heat lamps not on, slightly windy) so I asked why we were seated outside when my husband had made reservations well in advance. I usually would not say anything, They apologized and told us that they believed they could seat us at another party's table once they leave. They brought us a complimentary drink. My husband and I both got the omakase (we don't drink) , mine was citrus and his was fragrant. Mine was lavender-colored and lovely. He said that his drink was OK. They moved us inside by the time we ordered. It was much better inside. The ambience is lovely, I only wish that we had a table where we could see more of the interior of the restaurant. We ordered appetizers: Market Beet Salad, Wagyu Beef Tartare, Caviar. The beet salad I shared with my husband. It was delicious. My husband liked the beef tartare-- he said that his grandmother's was better because he preferred it finely ground. Our 16 year kid disagreed-- to be expected. We both enjoyed the caviar, but (again) our 16 year old didn't. I have a friend that loves Alexander's and she recommended the caviar-- it's a favorite choice from this menu for her family. I'm glad that we tried it! My husband ordered the Seafood Pasta. He didn't care for the texture of the noodles. It is a thicker noodle and he found it "doughy." There was very little seafood. My 16 year old ordered the 22 oz. Kansas City Strip, medium rare. When it came out it was underdone to his liking and he sent it back. He's not a steak eater, but he did like it. Of course most of it went home. I had my usual--filet mignon. I chose the 6 oz. Australian wagyu. Unlike my son, I am a steak person and I love a good filet. For me, this was not it. I ordered it medium rare and it came out at least medium. I didn't say anything (since I had already said something about the seating). I took half of it home, which is normal for me. Personally, I think overcooking a steak just ruins it. I was a little disappointed, because I was expecting it to be the highlight of my meal. My son and I shared the Mac-N-Cheese side dish. I thought that it was just OK, but my son liked it (16). My husband asked/reminded (numerous times apparently) them about it being my birthday and a special dessert. He asked when he made the reservation, he asked when we arrived, and he even snuck away to the restroom when we finished with dinner. Yet, we ordered dessert and received it without my birthday candle. It was brought out later-- maybe they forgot or were too busy with other guests. No birthday song either. For dessert, we ordered Yuzu Crème Brûlée (OK) and Molten Chocolate Lava Cake for my son (which he enjoyed). Dessert was nice, but not anything special. And my family is very big on dessert. The best part of the meal for me was the cotton candy. It was very flavorful and a perfect end. And they forgot to bring my husband the Mexican Mocha that he ordered for dessert, but they also didn't add it to the bill. We usually try to go to a fine dining restaurant to celebrate family special occasions because they seem to do a little more. The service was good, but not the level of attentiveness that I'm used to when we go to some other restaurants for our special days. So I think that's something to keep in mind if you're planning a special dinner. Edit: My husband says that I'm being too kind. Because he said we should give either 3s or 4s, I chose 3s because as he said, they seated us outside.
Sadly not how I remembered it.
Went there last night to celebrate my daughter's birthday, the rib eye was chewy and gamey and the brussel sprouts were over seasoned.....I don't know when the new chef started but based on my experience from last November to last night the quality has significantly declined....so sad. Never going back!

Where do I start, the service was unlike anything else I've ever experienced, Jayce went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The food, just wow! From the shooters, to the octopus, to the steak, and my goodness the Oreo soufflé! You must come and experience this place!!!
