Outstanding for breakfast!
The service and food here were totally first rate. I could enjoy an outstanding breakfast here. The omelette was particularly good; light, fluffy and satisfying. They did not ovrerdo the amounts of cheese, tomato and onion. The passionfruit also exemplified perfection. Silver service was in abundance, too. The staff were so courteous and helpful.

A delightful breakfast with attentive staff... everything and more you could ever want for breakfast. That view over the trees in Collins St is pretty good too!
Be the first to ReplyHorrible service and food quality
Would not come back, food was mediocre, a lot of hidden fees when ordering food and drinks. Manager was rude. Came for fine dining for Valentine's meal, there are plenty of better options.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, bad service
Dinned and enjoyed the High Cheese special. Food was lovely and the service was attentive and warm. That was until I attempted to use my Entertainment Book voucher to pay. I was told I was unable to use the voucher because it's a 'special'. I reminded the wait staff that according to the Entertainment Book rules you can use it for special events. I even pulled out my phone and showed them these rules. I was still denied and told to email them. I promptly did and have received no response. This was over 3 weeks ago. You'd think that for a hotel like the Westin, customer service and satisfaction would be paramount. I was able to get my money back from the Entertainment Book but that was another ordeal.
***USE YOUR ENTERTAINMENT BOOK VOUCHER FOR HIGH CHEESE*** Don't let them get away with it! Better yet, don't waste your money here.
Five star restaurant
You will find Allegro Restaurant within Westin Hotel Melbourne. For entree I would recommend the Char-grill Skull Island prawns or the Crudo hiramasa kingfish both $28. Our group tried 4 of the mains on offer (all around $38), the lamb, pork, fish and duck. We enjoyed them all. The mushroom and tarragon pot pie and pumpkin were great side dishes and accompaniments to the meal.
There are currently Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired desserts and cocktails available. Would suggest you try these while they are available.
Left Us Wanting for Nothing
My wife and I ate at Allegro yesterday and today. We liked it so much we decided to visit the restaurant both nights we were staying at the Westin on Collins St.
Everything was perfect! There was nothing left for us to desire, a great dining experience.
My wife's favorite is the Soy Harpuka Cod (Cod in consume with edamame), a perfectly cooked Codfish, crispy on top and soft and lucious in the middle. She also liked the Broccolini. A side of Broccoli, not ordinary broccoli, but broccoli on steroids.
I liked the Cape Grim Ribeye (16 oz, bone-in) which was perfectly cooked and included a tasty bone marrow croquet (I wished there were more of those on the plate). I also especially liked the snake beans (extremely long string beans with a couple of amazing sauces on top).
Both nights all of the food was perfectly cooked, nice and hot when they brought them out and oh so tasty.
We had a lady waitress both nights and the service was perfect! She had perfect timing, took care of every request quickly and was very friendly. Her service was so good I felt like I was alone with my wife ( I hate an overly attentive waiter/waitress, it interrupts our conversation and enjoyment). She gave us just the right amount of attention.
The wine and Champagne selection was great including many Australian choices as well as Italian and others...but why order Italian wine when Australia has great wines? The Australian Brut Champagne I had was perfect. The Champagne was not sweet and not too dry...just right.
My wife loved the Australian Chardonnay she had and wanted to buy more later to take home.
OK, so Allegro it is not Michelin Star quality, but it is VERY good, quality, "fine dining".
Whether you stay at the Westin or not, Allegro is worth the visit.
Dress is smart casual and definitely make a reservation, as they get completely booked a few nights of the week.
The word Allegro means "Performed at a swift speed" and I would say that applied to my service and food prep, but that was only one aspect of a truly wonderful experience.
Hugh Cheese at Westin
Went here with close friends. The staffs were exceptional and very friendly. The savoury cheese we ordered was to die for. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The staffs were all attentive to your needs. The quality of service and food were all on point. The servings very generous.
We had a great time!
Don't get the Pre-Theatre menu
Had the Pre-Theatre dinner at Allegro prior to seeing a show. Selected Allegro as have had the pre-Theatre dinner before, which consists of 2 courses (entrรฉe/main or main/dessert and a drink) for $49pp. Previously the Pre-Theatre menu was a sharing plate of 3 items on a plate to share between 2 people โ this was the case for each course and each item was divine. The NEW pre-theatre menu is a choice from a selection of 2 items in each course โ we chose main and dessert. My friend was vegetarian so there was a special meal for her and I chose the sirloin steak over the fish. Lucky I ordered the $9 fries, as a piece of meat was literally all I got on the plate (see pic). Dessert was a selection of โice cream OR ice creamโ โ sorbet or affogato โฆ.. And to top it off, the restaurant was empty, two other couples and us in the room and they have to put a party of 4 RIGHT NEXT TO US โ what is with that??!!!! I donโt care to share my conversation with the table next door nor do I care to share their conversation. Totally understandable if the restaurant is busy, but this was certainly not the case. Definitely never going back for Allegroโs pre-theatre dinner and maybe not going back at all if this is the new standard. Though I must say some of the other tables had the High Seas Menu โ which did look impressive.
Be the first to ReplyCoffee and Cake, not a mistake
The Allegro restaurant at the Westin Hotel provided us with a great afternoon tea stop while visiting Melbourne.
It was conveniently located right next door to the Regent Theatre where we were booked to see The Jersey Boys.
There was a good selection of cakes to choose from and the coffee proved to be even better.
Not great at all
Service was sporadic and unapologetic when numerous mistakes were made around our meal. Daughters meal arrived about 30 minutes after everyone elseโs. Kids menu is supposed to be designed for children but paying $15 for a bowl of cereal for dinner is not good design.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food and Great Value
We were very pleased with the grilled fish dinner. The food was not only excellent, but a great value. We were at other high end restaurants in town and the food was more expensive and not as good. The service was also excellent.
