An adventure and a Great Steak.
Al's Place on Main Street in Locke (aka Walnut Grove) was originally called, affectionately though not PC, "Al the Wop's". First, let me tell you this is not upscale, definitely a wonderful dive bar with a no frills restaurant attached. It's in the California delta and is ther only town in the U.S. built entirely by Chinese immigrants. It is a historical site with buildings leaning on each other. Many little shops, not always open, however, Marilyn and I had decided to do Al's for a drink and steak. At 5:30 Saturday evening the small bar was filled with locals, bikers and the adventurous. We had to go directly to a table in the back. No reservations necessary or accepted except for parties. Anna was our server. We split a side salad and a NY Steak which, even after the split I took part of it home. It came rare exactly as ordered. Anna was great with extra plates. I had a local Pinot and just totally enjoyed the lack of ambiance. Fun place to experience on a great Fall afternoon. Have an adventure! And definitely the NY Steak!

Loved Al's Place, very different and quirky with friendly staff and chatty clientele. In fact, we liked it's authenticity so much we abandoned plans to lunch elsewhere and got stuck into burgers which were very nice, and cold, cold beer. Fascinating place, Locke, needing some Tender Loving Care, what a great monument to the Chinese in California...don't let it collapse, folks.

Went to Al's Place last Monday. Went for steak and found out no steak served on Monday's. We went for the tacos and weren't disappointed. Great atmosphere and service. We had a great time eating tacos and watching NBA playoffs. I have had the steak before and will be back on a day other than Monday to have one as they are awesome.
