Great but
Rooms and service were exquisite. Beautifully designed and comfortable suites larger than anything I have experienced in NY. Service from the entrance to the concierge was fantastic. The spa and half day Hammam experience were next level with some of the kindest and caring people we have experienced. The gym and pool are incredible. However, while all of this was a positive there is just something different about this Aman. The restaurants and service within were lacking. Missed orders, menu changes, just “okay” dishes. It just wasn’t at the level of other Aman. There is a level of respite here that doesn’t existing in NY hotels but with dining as such an important part of the experience there is room for more.

The Aman New York is housed in the iconic Crown Building at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. The hotel is touted as a serene, discrete hotel reflecting a Sanskrit lifestyle that is designed with powers of mind, body and spirit that magically transport guests out of their everyday life......now that is a tall order. My extra spacious suite embraced 11 foot high ceilings, a cozy fireplace with large windows that offered stunning views along with a large scaled art mural. The use of natural materials and muted tones added an elevated sense of serenity to the chamber. The bathroom was opulent with marble rain shower, double vanity and a supersized oval soaking tub big enough to sail the Mediterranean. The Aman has an abundance of communal spaces for dining, drinking and hanging out. I ate at the Arva Italian restaurant (loved the Pork Chops) which was complemented by the Nama, the Aman's rendition of a Japanese eatery, while the Jazz Club offers world class live performances. The Garden Terrace, Aman's outdoor space, includes reflective pools and sensational firepits with a retracting glass roof that affords year round access. I was overwhelmed by the Aman's health facility, a 25000 sq. ft. spa, wellness center and gym. It is equipped with 65ft, pool, firepits, yoga and pilates studios, 10 treatment rooms and a cadre of rejuvenating regimes in 2 spa houses. I was giong to try a recover experience in artic temperature in the cryotherapy chamber but I didn't have my snow suit so I did indulge in the N. Y. signature treatment which included a full body scrub accompanied by a steam shower and massage......... .......totally reinvigorating. I was a guest of a friend to the Aman.........since the price of this hotel is way above my pay grade, the price is enough to make the common man (me) have a heart attack. Service was a tad jerky lacking the vibe of a sleek operation and in spite of the luxurious mass of the Aman the ludicrous price rendered a value that was not there. So, if you desire a NYC hotel with pinnacle amenities and you carry a heavy wallet ......then try the............Aman........Quiet Luxury and even Quieter Serenity.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Aman hotel
It was an outstanding experience at Aman NY. It is pin drop quiet in the rooms which are spacious and fitted with all of the conveniences one would expect in a high end hotel and would be familiar to those who have stayed at other Aman hotels (this was our 12th). The hotel is spotless and the rooms and public spaces are beautiful, even down to the elevators and hallways. What impressed us more than anything else was the staff - genuine, kind, unpretentious, thoughtful and eager to make a good impression. Food in Arva and the lobby lounge were fantastic. While the Aman hotels located in remote locations have their obvious charms, and a hotel in Manhattan could never really meet those expectations, this Aman is worthy of a visit in its own right. Down the road it would be great to see an excursion menu for tours of some of NYs special neighborhoods, and a library.
Be the first to ReplyHotel 5* jazz club1*
For hotel, it’s a five star+ but unfortunately we had very bad experience at their speak easy, the jazz club. We stayed their for two nights and as usual Aman property didn’t disappoint at all. Beautiful rooms, beyond excellent service and hospitality. Very spacious bathrooms(bigger than most of New York City rooms). Very good Restaurants, great menu. My only concern was experience at their speak easy, their was something bad and unusual happened to us and I brought this to manger attention but he didn’t do anything about it which is never expected from Aman
Be the first to ReplyLots of kinks to iron out
I recently spent 3 nights at the Aman NYC as a full paying guest (not a travel puff piece) so all my comments are in the context that this is the by far the most expensive city hotel I have ever stayed in. As the management was so confident they would hit the ground running there were no introductory (we are still ironing out the kinks) specials at this Aman so I was ready to be blown away! I will start with the positives. Location: can’t be beaten. Bergdorf Goodman and Central Park right at your doorstep. Interiors: stunning design albeit a little dark and moody. The restaurants and rooms have lovely light but behind this the reception areas and spa have very limited light. Rooms: exceptionally spacious, with a fire, huge bathroom and dressing area. Was upgraded on arrival, but I suspect there are no bad rooms in this hotel. The rooms have every gadget known to man, including a toilet with 7 different settings. Nespresso machine but no milk or milk frother. I guess they want you to order the $16 latte every time from in room dining. Was welcomed by a plate of chocolates and a birthday cake, which was a nice touch but not extraordinary. Food: I would say disappointing. I used the in room dining and dined at Avra for breakfast and lunch. In room dining was very limited. For a hotel of this calibre I would have expected a greater range ( where are the salads and hot chocolate??). The vibe in the restaurant bordered on zen at breakfast ( I guess this was the hotel guests) but felt very corporate at lunch and a ‘scene’ at dinner. Perhaps this is the ‘exclusive’ vibe they are trying to create but I found it unwelcoming and pretentious. Where is the Aman ‘zen’ ?? Vibe: By day 2, I realised that the hotel is trying the create a ‘private members club’ vibe, but for me it was bordering on intrusive. To get to your room there are no less than 3 ‘gate keepers’, which greet you and ask you to either show your room key or enquire as to what your business is at the hotel. We stayed at the Aman Tokyo at opening and they nailed it. Next level personalised service where we were greeted by name throughout the hotel, after our arrival. While this may be the aim at the Aman NYC, it is far from personalised and as a result the experience is exhausting. It also creates an atmosphere which is less than welcoming. There are loads of staff, whose job is unclear, but you are left with the impression that they are waiting for someone more important than you. Spa: 3 levels of cavernous but very well appointed treatment rooms. Amazing branding with leisure wear and spa products available for purchase.. There is an extensive spa menu but there appears to be very limited availability of therapists. My treatment was very good. There was also very poor communication in the spa. I had pre-booked treatments but received no in room reminders or reminders at checkin of my appointments so luckily I checked back on my email communication. I could have easily forgotten my appointment in a jetlagged haze. The spa also tried to charge me for late cancellation of a treatment. Clearly they had not checked their messages before the end of the day ( and had not answered the phone when I called). Lots of staff in training at the spa also, which you would usually overlook except you are paying almost 4K per night so you can’t!!. The spa is also the gate keeper to the gym and pool area. Overall, as I left the Aman NYC with a significantly lighter bank account I can’t help but feel disappointed. I was ready to be blown away but all I felt was relief. I moved down the road to another hotel for the remainder of my stay. While the rooms may be a little more dated, I am overlooking the park and am welcomed each day by old fashioned service with a smile. As the concierge at hotel 2 said to me ‘you are the center of my universe right now Ms X, I am focused on nothing else but you’ I knew I was in the right place.

Great location & design, this is the most expensive city hotel in the world. Nevertheless the service is an absolute disaster. The hotel still has ongoing construction works, including drilling at 8 am and the service is unbelievable low level. No butler, and no welcome amenities, not even a free fruit or cake, not to mention champagne or something else. They opened too soon and they are unprepared for welcoming clients who pay that much for the rooms. It is a shame for the brand!
