What a great spot! There was a wait on a Friday night but maybe..5-10 minutes? I sat at the bar and received prompt attention. The food was great. I like shellfish and had two bowls of different shellfish in broth..fantastic. The waiter even let me know I ordered too much and helped me adjust my order to get what I wanted in a reasonable quantity.

This was our first time eating at Anchor Oyster Bar and our experience was spectacular. Our waiter, Alex, was so sweet and made our experience even better. The wait was not long at all and it was a full house when we went. Will definitely go again!

Simply spectacular--one of the best all-around meals I've had in a long time. Service was outstanding--great advice, timed perfectly, dishes portioned out so everyone could have a sample. And food was superb; crab caesar was spectacular, and cioppino lived up to its reputation. Bill, considering the quality and amount of what we got, was so reasonable, not just by San Francisco standards, but by any standards.

I have been going to Anchor Oyster Bar for more than a decade and it is simply one of my most favorite restaurants in the Bay Area. The wait is as simple as putting your name on the white board outside the door and the wait, at the height of dinner, is usually about 30-minutes. I usually aim to be there near the start of dinner so that I can sit for dinner quickly. There are several outdoor dining booths with heaters (dress warmly), tables lining the wall, and generous bar seating. The place is styled in a New England feel, is always clean, and well staffed. The staff are wonderfully friendly and provide excellent service. The food is stellar! I absolutely love the caesar salad with a bowl of the clam chowder. The salad is simply delicious. In addition, the Cioppino is a dish that cannot be missed! Please stop off and enjoy!

Really yummy sea food spot! Came here after watching an episode of Mark Weinz on YouTube. The wait time depends on how busy it is, could range from 5 min to am hour so id call ahead. We had the clam chowder (8/10) it was good but i think i like mine a bit creamier with more sea food. The crab cakes were delicious! (10/10) and the oysters were also worth getting we ordered a white wine to accompany our meal and it hit the spot. We love coming here and know you will too The vibes inside feel very San Franciscan. Its a sea themed restaurant, very much meant for dates or a nice dinner with friends or colleagues. I dont really recommend bringing kids here since you have to walk through the kitchen to get to their tiny bathroom. No designated parking-street parking only

Another great meal at Anchor! They had a crab burger as a special and it was delicious. Not a crab cake/patty but giant pieces of Dungeness crab on a lovely bun with lettuce and tomato. Came with a bowl of clam chowder. Great combo. As usual, service was exceptional

The absolute BEST cioppino you will ever have! The large bowl is stuffed with the freshest seafood in a savory tomato based sauce that feeds a family of four. We usually pair this with the Caesar salad which is always super crispy with a tangy dressing and giant garlic croutons. While the entire menu looks and smells amazing, I can't seem to get enough of the cioppino! The wait outside is every bit worth it! This place never disappoints!
Be the first to ReplyEverything was exceptional.
The place is small and reservations aren't taken. Plan to relax upfront till your table is ready. Each entree was full of flavor, great portions and service was top notch.
Be the first to ReplyThe best cioppino in SF.
Period. I love going to this place and make it my mission to head that way when I find myself in the Castro. The staff is awesome, the food is great, and you will NOT be disappointed!
Be the first to ReplyStill shines brightly! Excellent food.
Excellent service. Excellent experience. Started with 3 different oysters, then the Welsh mussel appetizer, then crab salad and more mussels. Lovely wines, too. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyThe wait was long but they had great service.
. The food was bomb!! I'm disabled and they accommodated me pretty good!! The waiters were nice.. I would eat there again.

The food here was fantastic and it's worth the 30 to 45 minutes wait. The ciopinno was heavenly and is not something you should miss. We also ordered fresh Oysters that were indeed very fresh and tasted delicious. The bread served was cold though and thought it would have been good if they could have serve warmer bread.

..... If you're a seafood lover looking for a cozy family run atmosphere that serves remarkable food.....then you can't let this one slide by!!!! I took a friend after reading all the yelp reviews. Greeted by a friendly staff we were quickly seated even though they usually have a bit of a wait. Jessie was our waitress and she couldn't be any friendlier. Helped us with ordering and gave a great recommendation on beverages that complimented our chosen meal. "Saluti to Jessie" We started with Miyagi West Coast Oysters....[man were they good], then transitioned to a nice hot steamed artichoke and Crab Cake Appetizers (both phenomenal). Our main dishes were a good helping of Steamed Clams and even a bigger helping of Steamed Black Mussels. The individual broths were remarkable and were quickly absorbed by the garlic bread. As we were devouring the great tasting meal another waiter named Alex constantly checked on us making sure we got everything we needed. Jessie, Alex and all the other staff members truly cared about us in making sure our visit was a memorable one. I wanted to complement the service as well as the good tasting food we enjoyed at which point I spoke with the manager named Maryann. What a sweetheart, she too was great to talk to and very appreciative of the feedback we provided. She allowed me the opportunity to go into the kitchen to compliment Chef Raul....and the only thing I could say to him was "Buonissimo". What a great guy who was clearly working hard in getting orders out but still made time to say hello. All in all, this was great experience and I am glad I didn't let this one slide by. Anchor Oyster Bar is a place we will be returning to as I heard from other customers sitting next to us that the "Cioppino" is one of the BEST. Thank you Jessie, Alex, Maryann and Chef Raul for a great experience and meal.

Favorite spot in San Francisco! I've never had a bad meal there and the specials are always amazing! But the cioppino is delicious, too! If I only had 24 hours in the city, this is where I would go!
Be the first to ReplyGreat place to stop by for a quick bite of oysters.
It is a very small restaurant, so you may have to wait a while. However, once inside, we were able to order and get our food. They also provide some bread and butter while you look at the menu. There are only about three servers, so you will need to flag them down as they are constantly moving about. Once you get the oysters, they explain which ones are which, and they definitely taste very good.
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner here with a friend of mine.
We got the fresh oysters and large cioppino. It was hands down the best Cioppino that I've ever had. I've gone to many restaurants specifically for the cioppino. Many were good but the cioppino I had at Anchor Oyster Bar was the best. Nice cozy environment and everyone working there was extremely nice and helpful. They don't take reservations. Arrive early but be ready to have your taste buds blown away. I'll be back for sure

I don't live in SF but I was recommended by a local to come here and oh my gosh. This is the best! Cute atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food! Their mussels are amazing (not oceany), and the open faced shrimp and crab melt is the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. 10/10 would recommend! Also the chowder is really good too!

Open faced shrimp and crab sandwich, oysters and whole crab are still the stars of the show. All the specials looked and smelled amazing.Service was attentive and impeccable.Just a perfect place.

If you're a seafood lover looking for a cozy and inviting spot with outstanding food and service, Anchor Oyster Bar is a must-visit. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by friendly staff and a charming nautical-themed decor that sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. The seafood at Anchor Oyster Bar is always fresh and expertly prepared. The oysters are a standout, with their freshness and quality. The clam chowder is another standout dish, with a rich and creamy broth and plenty of clams. The cioppino is also highly recommended, with generous portions of seafood in a flavorful broth. And if you're a fan of crab, the crab cakes are not to be missed - they're crispy on the outside and full of sweet crab meat on the inside. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. They're also quick to refill drinks and make sure you're enjoying your meal. In addition, the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and service.Overall, Anchor Oyster Bar is an exceptional seafood spot that's definitely worth checking out. The oysters, clam chowder, and crab cakes are some of the best I've had, and the cioppino is also a winner. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends or family. Whether you're a San Francisco native or just visiting, be sure to add it to your list
Be the first to ReplyWhat an amazing experience here at anchor in Castro! Food
What an amazing experience here at anchor in Castro! Food was 100% on point, with my first time trying cioppino being a CORE MEMORY. The aroma of the wine mixed with tomato and mix of clams, crabs, scallops, mussels... *chefs kiss*. On top of mixing the endless bread and having raw oysters. Would definitely come back here. On top of all that, service was amazing with our great waiter - Alex.

Our waiter was excellent--made suggestions from their special menu, and since we were eating family style brought out each dish in a timely manner for us to savor each course solely. We especially enjoyed the freshness of our Cesar Seafood Salad and the Garlic Crab. The Cioppino was very good although seasoned with a bit more Anise then I would prefer. This is my favorite seafood restaurants in SF. This is a very small restaurant always with a LONG line (which says something about this choice) but worth the wait. Best for no more that 4 in your group. Can't wait for my next visit to enjoy another wonderful meal.

So delicious and extremely reasonably priced for the amount of food. Service is amazing. Very attentive and they make sure you have everything you need for an epic meal! The busy vibe in itself lets you know just how awesome this place is. The Cioppino does not disappoint!

Food is great there if you like seafood as they don't have much else. Not a lot of choices but they are all pretty good. The service is good. Reasonable prices given the fresh seafood. Large portions. The biggest downside is there is usually a long wait for a table during dinner times weekday or weekend.
Be the first to ReplyAnchor Oyster Bar is a Castro neighborhood gem.
Knowing they didn't take reservations, my sister and I met there just before 5pm on Friday and immediately got a table (though a line started forming soon after). We ordered the crab cakes, garlic bread, clam chowder, Caesar salad, seafood pasta, and roasted potatoes, in addition to the complimentary bread and butter. All the food was delicious, the oysters were super fresh, and I liked that they let you do half orders of most items. Our server Kelly was exceptional. She was sweet, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and quick with water refills. The place only seats 27, so even with the addition of the parklet (with heat lamps) it's pretty small. They don't take reservations so I definitely recommend going early on weekends to avoid a long wait. If you have to wait, however, they let you order wine while you sit outside!
