Worthy of the #1 N. America accolade
Can’t fit the grandeur of this place into a review. Cool NYC townhouse, courses that will test your pallet & honestly spine chilling dishes. Totally amazing! Best kombucha EVER! Best palate cleanser EVER! Courses are explained with extreme details down to bowl or plate beneath it. Augmented reality menu cards. Luxury soap products in the restroom I mean idk what else to say other than the place is so worthy of the best restaurant in North America & don’t forget that World’s best named the the number 8th in the world. I opted for two tastings in one night, both the regular tasting as well as the bar tasting & it two was amazing but be warned that the bar is more akin to a la carte portions & you will be full. Cocktails pairing are matched perfectly in the bar. My new favorite place EVER!

My husband and I had a spectacular dinner last night! The food was so inventive and incredible! We were beyond impressed with the service. Everything was timed perfectly with the courses and the sommelier was amazing with his recommendations and made sure our glass was always full! This is a true dining experience and any foodie will appreciate it! Thank you for an unforgettable evening!

Don’t take my word, Condé Nast also says so as it’s ranked highest in NYC. Outside looks like residential apartment building but if you blink, you would miss the small sign with the restaurant name. I came a bit early and was not let in. Most ppl come late. I would just come exactly on time for best bet. I was greeted by many ppl and finally someone took me to my seat downstairs. It’s quite impressive how they transformed the apartment into a chic two floor loft. Just the renovations and interior decor by themselves warrant some high marks. I was really blown away by the interior and its beauty. Some customers dress up while others are quite casual. I was complimented for my cap which was a surprise because most fancy restaurants would force me to take it off. I won’t go back to those places. The chair is so comfy and kind of loungy which is what I like. The servers are quite chatty and even the manager is quite friendly. You can also tell the chef really enjoys cooking because each dish is introduced with a card with description of food inspiration, history, and ingredients. From the first dish to the last, I was thoroughly impressed. This felt like what Chef’s Table used to be but with more an Asian flair. Sadly, they are no longer as good for now. After having tried all the 3-Michelin starred restaurants in NYC (And some 2-starred ones) I think I can safely say this is the best in NYC if not one of the best. The thing is, I can’t imagine any other restaurant with this kind of space. It's so Zen. Some would complain it’s too expensive but all the triple Michelin starred places in NYC are expensive. Not to say you can’t get a great meal without breaking the bank but I think you will lose the service and nice ambiance. I honestly, want to go back here many times because I like the ambiance. Prolly only thing missing is a fountain with running water which they can put in front of the counter. My only complaint is every now and then, someone calls “Service” and all the servers would be chanting and serving the food. Feels a bit weird to me lol. Had like a factory or military vibe but hey, nothing’s perfect to everyone.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best dining experiences you'll ever have...
Many reasons why this newcomer had made City and nationwide acclaim as "One of the best".
There have been many detailed reviews posted. I'll get to the punch lines:
Memorable
Impeccable service
Cool space
Great cocktails
Extensive wine list
Spectacular food.
Go. Enjoy. Book 2 months out (as they only seat 14 twice per night). Also note that they could easily add 4 or 6 more diners per seating but space is also what you are buying.
Damages for 4 for the tasting menu + service charge + 20% tip - all prepaid when you book - was $1067. We added some truffle shavings, cocktails, and 2 lower cost bottles of wine and another tip adding $600.
Food 5/5
Service 5/5
Value 4/5 (wine was a bit overpriced)
Take Your Breath Away! … A Masterpiece in the Art of Dining!
Let me endeavor to entice your patronage at Atomix with the following considerations. 1. The space is contemporary, warm and it foreshadows the quality of what is to come. Most diners sit at an eye-pleasing, horseshoe-shaped dining counter while others sit at a few nearby tables. Regardless of where you sit, your taste buds will be whisked away to a Korean culinary Eden. 2. The amazing people. The Parks, Ellia and Junghyun (JP), co-own/operate Atomix; Ellia is the conductor who orchestrates the activities of the evening and is as gracious a person as you will ever meet while JP directs the magical food preparation and plating. The Parks have assembled an amazing team who effortlessly cater to your every need. Case in point, Jhonel (Sommelier) is not only a delightful person but also a libations genius. The wine pairings are not to be missed! 3. Get ready for food so sublime it will forever change the way you think about quality and attention to detail. Everything is sheer art form, from the dinnerware (handmade in Korea for each course), to the art on the cards that describe the inspiration of each course, to the intoxicating tapestry of flavors that JP ushers into existence! My wife and I have dined at several of the top 10 on the S. Pellegrino listing of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants and we can say, without qualification, that Atomix is in the top three best overall dining experiences we have ever had. So do yourself a favor, get a reservation and get ready to be AMAZED!

Incredible experience at Atomix. 10 course meal with great service and cocktails. Reservations book up 6 weeks in advance so would highly suggest booking in advance. Will be back.
Be the first to ReplyTalented chef but many disappointments
We really wanted to like this place, and thought the service was polite and the chef has great skill. But we did not enjoy ourselves and when customers are paying such prices and walk away without having enjoyed themselves it is a real shame.
The layout of the restaurant has inauspicious fengshui. As one example, the counter area is dark and foreboding. It feels like the guest is entering and eating inside a dragon’s mouth. There is too much activity around the counter and in front and behind all guests to really feel comfortable. When food arrives, every party gets served at the same time and gets the same explanation from their server simultaneously — many people talking all at the same time — which makes it really noisy and difficult to hear. The layout intimates chef’s insistence that everyone watch his masterful performance, which is a rather egocentric approach to hospitality.
For a Korean restaurant that is trying to showcase Korean culinary heritage — which we highly respect and enjoy — there was an over reliance of core ingredients mainly from Japan and some from the USA. We would have thought more highly of the restaurant if Korean produce were spotlighted.
Desserts were insubstantial and showcased no particular pastry-chef skill worth 2 Michelin stars. In fact the whole meal was not substantial. Do not come hungry or you will leave hungry. Toward the end of the meal my dining companion was planning how to get a “real meal” in Koreatown.
We were surprised not to be offered a chance to have a digestif after the meal, or even just to unwind and enjoy each other’s company. Instead the bill was foisted on us and every other party when we had not even finished our dessert. So we felt rushed out.
We are not fine dining novices. We have been to Michelin starred (and non-starred) restaurants in NYC, Seoul, and around the world. We are happy to give credit where due. Atomix falls short.
excellent
We first received two amuse bouche: a crispy shell filled with crudo and a miniature truffle tart. At this point, we were shown some enormous black truffles and asked whether we wanted to add them to any or all of 3 courses (two of them were Jjim [snow crab] and Jorim [wagyu]) for about $20 per plate; although the price seemed reasonable, we passed on the offer).

My spouse and I dined at Atomix for dinner on a Saturday evening in early March 2019. Atomix (pronounced ah-TOE-mix) is open for dinner on Tuesdays through Saturdays (closed Sundays and Mondays). We booked our spot online one month in advance using the pre-paid Tock reservation system. (For example, March reservations became available on February 1; April reservations became available on March 1, and so on.) This very popular restaurant always sells out quickly. Using Tock (set up an account ahead of time, so that on the day you reserve, you can just select a day/time and press a button), you must pre-pay for the entire meal ($225 per person, which includes tax and gratuity). On the night that you dine, you pay separately for your beverages.
Atomix opened in 2018 in a townhouse on East 30th Street. Upon climbing the steps to the brownstone, we had a difficult time choosing which door to enter (there is no sign or mark indicating behind which door is the restaurant). After picking the correct door, we saw that the first floor contained a bar and lounge area that serves drinks and small plates; you can dine there without a reservation. Below street level (down an elegant set of stairs) is another small lounge area that adjoins the main dining room with its 14-seat rectangular black granite counter. Before being seated for dinner, guests first enjoy some drinks and small bites in a casual group setting, although we arrived too late to partake. Diners are invited to choose a set of chopsticks from the chef’s collection, and other serveware is handmade by artisans in South Korea. Prior to each course, a tunic-clad server places a card in front of each diner that contains a Korean word describing the dish. The back of the card lists the dish’s ingredients. At the end of the evening, the restaurant packages the cards together to take home as a unique souvenir.
Atomix is operated by a husband-and-wife team, JP and Ellia. He (formerly the chef de cuisine at Jungsik, where we dined in August 2017; see our separate review) is the chef, and she manages the front-of-house. The duo also operate the more casual Atoboy (pronounced ah-TOE-boy), located just two short blocks away. (We dined at Atoboy in October 2019; see our separate review.)
Atomix serves a Korean 10-course tasting menu. Before our meal, I ordered a drink called the Samioko, made with tequila, mezcal, grapefruit, lemon, and honey. There were three splashes of sesame oil on top, so when I sipped, I tasted sweetness and immediately smelled the sesame oil. It was ingenious! But onto the food …
• We first received two amuse bouche: a crispy shell filled with crudo and a miniature truffle tart.
• At this point, we were shown some enormous black truffles and asked whether we wanted to add them to any or all of 3 courses (two of them were Jjim [snow crab] and Jorim [wagyu]) for about $20 per plate; although the price seemed reasonable, we passed on the offer).
1. "Guk" – maesaengi (seaweed), garlic custard, uni, pork broth
2. "Hwe" (Raw)– yellowtail, carrot jang, chojang (sweet chili pepper sauce), perilla leaf
3. "Jeon" (Fried) – potato, fermented yuza, herbs, flowers (THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE COURSES)
4. "Jjim"(Steam) –snow crab, grandada pepper, trout roe, tapioca, white kimchi sauce (ANOTHER FAVORITE)
banchan: gyeranmari (a rolled omelette) with myeongran jeot cream (salted seafood)
5. "Twigim" (Fried)– soondae (blood sausage), gim (seaweed), ssamjang (spicy) dip
banchan: mustard kimchi and cuttlefish
6. "Sukchae"(Blanched) – celeriac, buttermilk cheese, hazelnut milk, caviar
black rice (which looked purple) with sweet potatoes, ginger, chive (WE DIDN’T LOVE THE RICE SIDE DISH)
7. "Gui" (Grilled) –snapper, kohlrabi kimchi, nuruk sauce (ANOTHER FAVORITE)
banchan: parse (seaweed), dubu skin, wasabi (WE DIDN’T LOVE THIS BANCHAN)
8. "Jorim" (Braised) – wagyu, fermented red pepper, ginger leaf oil (YUMMO!)
rice: white rice with an assortment of lettuces to eat ssam style (wrapped) (WE LIKED THE UNIQUENESS OF THIS SIDE DISH BUT NOT NECESSARILY THE FLAVOR)
9. "Ipgasim" (palate cleanser)– makgeolli (rice wine ice cream), quince, pear, sumac meringue
10. "Husik" (Sweet/Dessert) – red bean paste, persimmon, pine nut (WE LOVED THIS BECAUSE WE HADN’T EXPECTED THE BEAN PASTE TO BE WARM)
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Atomix; the food, atmosphere, and service were top-notch!
Not a full meal!
So sad to not being writing a 5 star review. Atoboy is my wife and I's favorite restaurant in NYC right now and have been there many times. For context, we occasionally do high end tasting menus, like 2-5 a year.
I would reaaallly like to focus on all of the amazing things Atomix did, but unfortunately there was a fatal flaw - not serving a full meal! My wife is 100lbs and has only finished one tasting menu before, that was a $60 4 course menu downtown. We even had a huge breakfast at 1pm before the 6pm reservation. When we got to Atomix, she was worried that she was not even going to be able to taste 10 dishes. She said she was a 6 or 7 in hunger out of 10.
She ate every bite of food. Literally every bit of banchan. She also had all of the wine, which was also a first. (I think the wine pairings were phenomal though! Great sommelier choices). After the meal was over she said "should we go get some beer and fried chicken sandwiches?".
I'm normally a big eater, and will actually eat a snack before these long tasting menus, so I can enjoy the first courses with out being so hungry. I think i was exactly the same fullness after the meal as I was 2.5 hrs earlier. If my wife had said it was too much food for her, then I would probably have given 5 stars (and eaten her left overs). But, to serve a meal that is average sized for a 100lb woman to everyone is crazy. Yes, i would like a full meal for a 200lb adult for my $1,000, not just great tastes and an amazing experience. Even sprang for the extras!
I looked around and every bite was finished by everyone there. I don't know how this hasn't come up more in the reviews!?
The service, taste, decor, experience and wine pairings were 5 stars. I had been looking to come since they announced the restaurant over a year ago. Wish I could remember it for the experience instead of lack of calories.
Overall, just go to atoboy!
Truly enjoyed eating here one of the highlights of my new York trip !
My daughter in law is Korean and when she came to New York City with my son earlier this year she ate at this establishment I believe it had just opened.
She insisted that when we go to New York we eat here too. What an excellent experience I really didn’t have any idea what to expect when I came here and the location was a little difficult for me to find.
The food however, the cocktails, the service was really excellent we were lucky we got a reservation because we booked one prior to leaving Australia. I don’t think we would’ve been able to get in if we tried once we arrived.
I have eaten extensively are different places in Korea and I can honestly say that Atomix top’s them all.
We highly recommend this restaurant and suggest you make a booking, you will not be disappointed.
