BADMAASH Downtown LA Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Very bad experience.
I can't express how bad it was. For starters this place is run by any other race but indian. Second, the food we ordered was butter chicken it was soooo sweet. No spice at all. We asked for medium spice level and they said they can't make it medium because it comes like that like are you kidding me? he's telling me to get a BOSS SAUCE for 4$ you dont have any spices in your kitchen? Super overpriced, bland food and not worth it at all. Never been coming back again. Idk what this cuisine is but definately not indian. Don't be fooled.
This place has been on my "hit list" for a few years now
This place has been on my "hit list" for a few years now and I'm so glad to have finally made the trip! We live on the westside, and happened to be downtown for Luna Luna, so I was excited to see that Badmaash wasn't far. Parking isn't terrible, but it's also not the greatest location (we were lucky to find street/metered parking 2 blocks away). Upon arriving, there was some weird confusion over us and another "group of 7 for 7pm" -- and though we were the first of the two groups to arrive, we were given the smaller area that wouldn't have been big enough to hold all the food we were planning to order. However, with some effort (on their end) and patience (on ours) we were able to get an additional table brought over. Everything that came out was SO GOOD! I could have (and should) have ordered the Coconut Curry Mussels for just me. Just a heads up, the space itself is pretty tiny - we were seated on the little deck upstairs. It was a little loud and hard to converse amongst our friend group, BUT with that being said -- the playlist deserves an extra point!
Loveless, loud, hush-hush
Very good food, but the atmosphere and service are rubbish - and that's almost as much of a difference to a nice evening. Unbearably loud music was playing the whole time, making conversation almost impossible. Everything happened very quickly: from entering the restaurant to leaving, less than 50 minutes passed - for two courses plus wine. Everything happened very quickly, and before we had even finished the main course, we were asked if we wanted dessert. When we said no, the bill came straight away without being asked, even though we both still had half a glass of wine in front of us. Even by US standards, where everything in a restaurant goes a little faster than in Europe, it was very hectic. It's a shame.
The food was average.
The service was lovely and the ambiance was ok. I'm not sure I would recommend this place. However it's OK for the convenience and location.
You didn’t feel like you were in good hands
You didn't feel like you were being looked after. The food was OK. The music in the restaurant was much too loud and you were forced to eat quickly (order or check). Wine was served in water glasses. Overall, not a good experience.
Badmaash has the best chicken curry delivery I've ever had!
Badmaash has the best chicken curry delivery I've ever had! The flavors are amazing, and the chicken is always super tender and juicy. Every bite is packed with delicious spices. The delivery is quick, and the food always arrives hot and fresh. If you want an awesome Indian meal delivered to your door, Badmaash is the place to order from. Highly recommend!
Great wine and vegetarian options.
Server was very helpful and suggested great items!
i loved badmaash! i can't honestly say i'll be back because
i loved badmaash! i can't honestly say i'll be back because it was SO expensive - tiny rice/naan portions for $3 each! but i found the fusion take to be exciting rather than detracting from the overall eating experience which i think is rare for most fusion nowadays. all their flavor profiles were exquisite and delicious. -1 point purely for pricing

My favorite restaurant in LA! We come here every chance we get. We've been enjoying the poori brunch lately, but really everything we've tried is delicious. Get the rosemary naan, and don't forget to save room for dessert. The rice pudding and chocolate pots de crème are excellent.
So so.
Food tasted ok, some good. Some so so. Didn't feel the value for money--things were overpriced. I found a rubber band in my papri chat-and told them. But they didn't seem to care. It's okay. I l was tryna celebrate. Wasn't too bad, but wasn't that good.
Food was fine - had the chicken badass dish which was good
Food was fine - had the chicken badass dish which was good but not worth $26. In my opinion, the food is overpriced for what you get with respect to portions. I've been to countless Indian restaurants that didn't charge this much and had similar or better quality dishes. Pricing is mislabeled on Yelp by 50-90% - see the photos. They need to be adjusted.
Badmaash DTLA provides flavorful dishes, with standouts
Badmaash DTLA provides flavorful dishes, with standouts like the coconut curry mussels and butter chicken samosas. The overall food is delicious, though not the pinnacle of Indian cuisine in my experience. Despite this, the establishment boasts great customer service and a clean atmosphere, enhancing the dining experience. While prices are on the higher end, it is understandable with all things considered. I don't know if I would come back, knowing that I can get the same quality, if not better, for the fraction of the price, however, I would recommend anyone to give this place a try forsure.

I am the first to admit that I am extremely critical of Indian restaurants. Ate at Badmaash at the DTLA location for the first time last night. The flavors were amazing and we enjoyed everything we ordered. When the seek kebab came out in a gravy I was kind of skeptical as I have never seen it served that way. Absolutely loved the flavor. Goat with bone was great too. I wish they had parathas instead of just naan and roti. Food was on the heavier side but that is not necessarily a negative as good food generally is. Our server Miles was great.
BEST CHAI I'VE EVER HAD.
I came to Badmaash because it looked like modern Indian food / fusion. I do like Indian food and wanted to see what a fusion spin would be like. Everything was delicious! My Indian friend said it's more like fusion as opposed to authentic Indian food, but we don't care if it's fusion or not because everything was so tasty! At first I didn't want to get the staple dishes like butter chicken or Tikka masala but after looking at the menu, I really did want to have butter chicken that day. Loved it. I'd like to return and try other dishes! My friend also recommended we order another dish but I can't remember what it was called. It had yogurt, tamarind sauce, and some other things and you eat with something like a nacho chip. It was delicious and very new to me! I love trying new food. Only complaint is that the music is too loud so you have to yell when talking. The best part of my meal was getting the chai for dessert!!!!!! I normally have chai made from a mix from a bag, and I was told that chai from a bag is usually not very good. Real good chai is often homemade. I guess I'll say I've never had real good chai until now! The oat chai at Badmaash is the best chai I've ever had by a long shot. My Indian friend (who makes chai at home) said that the oat chai was pretty good. The website says they sell their chai in stores such as Erewhon so I'll be getting some more chai for myself!

This spot serves up sensational dishes with top-notch
This spot serves up sensational dishes with top-notch service. If you're a fan of Indian cuisine with a twist, this is the spot to check out - it's a fusion of flavors that won't disappoint. The music adds to the fantastic ambiance, and the diverse crowd creates a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be adding this place to my regular dining rotation. The only drawback is their limited liquor license, restricting options to beer and wine.
Nahh. The food lacked depth and the service was horrible.
Nahh. The food lacked depth and the service was horrible. I can get past bad service if the food is spectacular, but this ain't it. The chicken samosa was fine, the Dahl puri was almost all yogurt, way off balance. The short rib was over salted, the tandoori chicken had too strong of pepper flavor, and the okra had nothing to bind it together or balance its flavor. Our server pretty much checked out once we put in our order, too. Never around, didn't bring the extra rice we ordered, and we had to flag down someone else for the check. Indian food is my favorite, but not here.

I loved it all! I'm currently taking a course on food and wine in California and one of the assignments was to watch Badmassh's episode in The Migrant Kitchen series. Their story was so inspiring and so loving. I was amazed that it was located in LA. Born and raised in south east LA, currently living Sacramento and attending San Francisco State University, I was so happy chefs Nakul and Arjun and their parents place this beautiful place in SoCal. I travelled down, saying I was gonna visit family, but I truly wanted to experience this. It was wonderful. My friend and I were lucky that we had the whole restaurant to ourselves and our server was so nice and knowledgeable on all the dishes. He even gave us the Parle-G ice cream sandwich and hot chai to top off our meals. It truly was a great experience. I highly recommend visiting this place if you're in dtla. I also recommend watching their KECT episode too! I'll leave the url for y'all !! https://lifeandthyme.com/video/migrant-kitchen-badmaash/

Some of my colleagues and I went to this restaurant for the first time. The food was excellent taste and quality. The Lamb Curry was a little spicier than I expected, but it was delicious and went perfectly with rice and garlic naan. The waiter, John, was very nice and courteous. He single handedly was serving all of the guests with a high focus and pleasant presence. Highly recommend this place. Enjoy
I was interested in visiting what they advertised as Indian
I was interested in visiting what they advertised as Indian fusion cuisine. I had difficulty identifying the fusion aspect of the menu. The place is small and there is very little space between the tables. The restaurant was out of all their red wines except one. It was not very good. The waiter suggested one that was not on the menu for $85 per bottle. The food was good but not as high quality as I expected. Of all the entrees we tried the grilled chicken stood out. The Indian cuisine is not up to my standards. I was generous with a three-star rating. Poor price/value relationship.
Absolutely not the place for Indian food.
.. and for the positive reviews... honestly I think they are written by folks who have never had proper Indian food. The short rib dish had chunks that were so dry it was stale and crunchy in spots... it tasted as if it was pre-cooked and then microwaved with the sauces. (Should I post a photo of this tragic waste of an expensive cut of meat?) The butter chicken... below average and way too sweet and greasy. It tastes very Americanized... not just a fusion version. The small container of rice for $6 is insane. The chili cheese naan... also a no, especially for $10! It was the smallest pieces of naan lacking that doughy chewy goodness and with way too much cheese + not enough chilis. My friend and I were SUPER disappointed after spending $80 for this food. While this wasn't the worst Indian food we've had, it's down there. Lol.
Plenty of room to improve
Service was good however the food tasted quite below average. As a vegetarian, the choices are quite narrow. It seemed a bit overhyped

Anyone know how increase payout transfer to bank as I can only send $50 a day and they charge $5 for every transaction. There must be a way. I’ve contacted support two days ago and not a reply.
