Amazing establishment with an elegant tasting menu.
Absolutely to die for! My husband and I celebrated our anniversary. One of the best restaurants in Austin, hands down.
Be the first to ReplyThis was the best meal I had in Austin.
I loved the creative tasting menu and the friendly staff and the open kitchen concept. Enjoyed the rabbit cocktail. The menu changes so I'll just say I loved every course, especially the tuna, duck and ribeye! I also added on their shiitake dumplings with soft scrambled eggs which was good but I didn't think I really needed it. I usually don't like donuts but their donut was wild -- sweet and savory!!! LOVED it. Definitely a must in Austin!
Be the first to ReplyPricey as hell but worth every penny.
I've only been three times but I have never been disappointed in the food. Quality ingredients, creative dishes, did I mention delicious???? Save up your quarters for a year and get your butt on into Barley Swine. The 30 minutes at the coinstar turning in your change will be worth it.
Be the first to ReplyWe went here around the holidays at the end of year.
This concept is really exciting - letting someone define your entire dining experience was not something I was used to - but it was fun not to think about it. The service was stellar! Most of the entrees were tasty & exposed us to that "Bear chaos menu"style. In hindsight, I probably should have asked for a vegetarian menu - because I'm Not a huge fan of undercooked/uncooked meats. My husband absolutely loved the experience & every course. I did share most of my portions with him. This is certainly a great place for those with a mature palette, hanging w a group of friends & seeking an upscale experience. Every course was impressive / just not my personal favorite. There were a lot of courses but overall the amount of food left my husband & I both a bit hungry. With the prices they charge (our bill for 2 + tip was $400+ - although we did have a couple glasses of wine) - this is really geared towards a true foodie & I would recommend this place for those types of customers - the ones that savor these fancy dishes. The menu changes every few months or so. If you don't like what's on this menu - come back & check it out in the spring!
Be the first to ReplyIt's been a minute but this place is still great.
The service is on point, the food is outstanding. and we ended up on the patio with the perfect Spring weather. It's not cheap but if you're looking for a memorable date night/soecial occasion (or you're just plain rich), it's a great option.

After years of friends raving about this place, my husband and I finally got to visit Barley Swine to celebrate our belated valentine's day dinner! We must say that this was by far the best tasting menu in Austin! Each dish was seasoned perfectly, and the ambiance of the restaurant was simply amazing. However, we were a bit disappointed with the amount of food that was served, as well as the service we received. There were multiple servers that came and went from our table, and none really bothered to attentively care for our drinks. Regardless, this was a fantastic choice for a romantic date night, and we can't wait to be back!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic service- Cohen and manager, Stephan were great.
Good drinks and a fairly good tasting menu- however about every other item on the 9 course tasting menu of which 2 courses were dessert features, fell flat. A few were too salty including the Muscovy duck and the "Wagu"- which was called Wagu but did not present or taste like Wagu, were disappointing. We tried 5 cocktails- which were generally pretty good - favorite of which was the one called uncut gems! Bill at 447.32 including 20% gratuity- leaves this venue with something to aspire to- especially when you compare the pricing to the execution. - they have it with the customer experience - BUT if you plan to charge nearly $500 for a table of two---You've got to step it up on the execution side. Does not even come close in comparison to other pre-fix menu experiences -

I've been to Barley Swine about once a year for the last 7 years. Every visit has been a lovely experience. Service is exceptional and the food and wine pairings are typically tasty and interesting. The atmosphere is very cozy and it's a great spot for a date or family dinner.

This place is one of a kind with its ambiance and culinary precision. I ate here 1/28/24 and had the 9 course prefix menu. The price was $115 per person. On top of that I added the shiitake mushroom dumplings for $14, drank 3 macchiatos for around $16 in total, and took away 6 brown sugar chocolate chip cookies for another $14. After tip for 2 it was around $340 which is personally a large amount for me, but I regret in no capacity due to the courses being timed out perfectly and every single dish tasting delicious in its own unique way with clashing flavor profiles. Our waiter was super amazing and continually checked in (not too often and with no interruption), filled up our waters, and explained the dishes to me and my girlfriend. I would 100% recommend this establishment to anyone for a super special occasion or if you have the money, a fancy dinner with friends. I am 19 so I did not order any alcoholic drinks, but I must say they looked delicious and were presented well. I work in an upscale kitchen and I must say this place pleasantly surprised me! Thank you Barley Swine for a wonderful night out with my partner. (ps: my girlfriend is pregnant and cannot consume raw fish (or any due to mercury). The kitchen (with no knowledge before our arrival) accommodated her and subbed the fish being bluefin, yellowtail, and oyster for various vegetables and meats. She is also very picky and ate the entirety of all 9 courses and loved all of them (which is a miracle if you know her).

Be the first to ReplyIncredible service.
Staff was present and very helpful. My dietary restrictions often cause an issue but this establishment went above and beyond to provide incredible service nonetheless.
Be the first to ReplyCurrently ranks as our family's number one favorite
Currently ranks as our family's number one favorite restaurant in Austin. Everything we've ever had here is delicious, the service is impeccable, and it's a comfortable experience if you sit inside or outside. Sometimes we bring our baby, and they're always very accommodating. We've done a la carte as well as the chefs prix fixe, and I'd recommend sticking with the prix fixe-- you get all of the best options in one (I still sometimes will randomly think about their tenderloin pops). For any special celebrations, I'd highly recommend coming here for a guaranteed wonderful night!

I will start off with the negative things because there are very little. Personally, I felt like the restaurant was WAY too dark. Hard to even really see your waiter, menu, and food. The service was very high quality, ensuring we were always taken care of. Only a few times when we were neglected and my water was empty for more than 5 minutes. The food is amazing. Top of my list so far. All the flavors are presented well and presentation is high quality too. Definitely felt satisfied by the end of the chef's tasting. Would come back here again!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent as always! The first thing I would like to mention
Excellent as always! The first thing I would like to mention is the questionnaire when making your reservation. I love being able to let them know about food allergies and intolerance up front. Location is small and comfortable. Staff is kind and attentive. Course explanations are perfect. Food is always impressive. Even the timing of the courses is excellent. Only possible complaint is the difficulty getting in and out of the parking lot but that's really not the restaurants fault.

I came to Barley Swine on a solo trip to Austin where I wanted to treat myself to a fancy meal with a local twist. Every single things I ate was phenomenal--I don't think there was a single low point. My favorites included the snacks that started the meal and the duck course. The service was awesome and they made me feel super comfortable as a solo diner. There were some add ons available and I got the chocolate peanut brittle cookies to go. I'm so glad I did because it was a delicious treat to enjoy over the next two days and remember the great meal I had!For those who aren't familiar with Texas/Austin, do beware that it's hard to get an Uber out here. It seems most other guests drove themselves. After my meal, I had two cars cancel on my before I could get a ride back to downtown. Coming from the east coast, I wasn't prepared for how spread out things are!

One of the best dining experiences anywhere! Amazing team, love the open view of the kitchen, and the food is creative and delicious.
Be the first to ReplyWent there with two friends.
We had the tasting menu without the wine pairing. We spent much time arguing about which dish was the best! The meats were cooked to perfection and the flavor combinations were on point. Nothing was disappointing. The food was so good that I think Barley Swine could potentially have a Michelin star, if Michelin ever decided to publish a guide for Texas. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, excellent service.
Be the first to ReplyThis was absolutely one of the best meals that we've ever
This was absolutely one of the best meals that we've ever had. We sat at the bar on a Saturday evening and had a great view of the kitchen. It's a beautiful restaurant! We went to support our dear friend who was doing his externship here and is an excellent and up and coming chef. Service was top notch with multiple team members checking on us, refilling our drinks and a steady stream of tasting plates being delivered. The depth of flavor in each dish was truly unique and impressive. It's hard to choose a favorite because they were all that good! We especially loved the sun choke. Thank you to Matt and team for a remarkable evening! Can't wait to go back to try in the future when the menu rotates!

Food: 7/10: We got the tasting menu and the food was good, but you expect that at this price point. I really enjoyed the variety in textures in the earlier dishes in the service, like the tartare and the ceviche. Their trout was probably my favorite dish of the night - the fish was so tender and flavorful, but it still tasted really clean and light. The waiter said that the shiitake mushroom dumplings were a crowd favorite, but I was expecting some mushrooms in them. To me, it just tasted like really salty shiitake water in a dumpling. Service: 9/10: The service was exceptional - we showed up a bit late to our reservation, but they still seated us without a question. Before each dish, they would come out and give us clean utensils and gave a quick description of what we were about to eat, which helped us understand what we were eating a lot more. Vibes: 8/10: I really liked the dining room layout, especially how we could see into the open kitchen. You could also see a lot of jarred spices and hanging things that were curing or drying. It kind of reminded me of a food laboratory. Really cool.Overall: 8/10: The food was what you would expect at this price point, but nothing really blew my away. The service really was the highlight of the night.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent! The food tasted amazing.

One of the best meals I had in 2022! Service was incredible and each of the dishes was so unique. We got the foie gras supplement which was 10/10. Absolutely no critiques other than how full I felt at the end. If you're on the fence about coming here, just do it!!
