Terrible sushi, worse service
Came here as it was recommended from friends who have been a few years ago. The restaurant was empty, and we quickly found out why. Starters tasted low quality, and the sushi we ordered (which was incredibly expensive), was horrific. We were going to order the waygu, however after the sushi, we asked to cancel this dish. They then had the audacity to cancel the order, and still charge us $120 for it! Eventually they agreed to take it off the bill, but I have never experienced service like this, especially at a very expensive restaurant. The drinks were great, and the bartend was very nice.

This restaurant was excellent! We had a little trouble finding it because the place is so hidden which only added the the charm. Once we were inside the restaurant, it was very cozy. We got the beef tartare, Mac and cheese, ramen and a steak and rice dish and everything was top notch. We left feeling very full as well. My boyfriend and I both agreed that the drink with Japanese roasted tea infused tequila, house-made honey, lime and artichoke was the best drink we’ve ever had in our lives. Service was amazing!

Excellent dinner! Me and my girlfriend were looking to do a Michelin star restaurant for the weekend and were baffled by the prices. If you’re looking for a similar experience and a mixture of a speak easy vibe, this is the place for you.
Beef Tar Tar was excellent. We also got this drink with Tequila and Tea, it was honestly the best drink I’ve ever had in the life. Sounds ridiculous but I’m not kidding, so good.
Great secret find!
We "applied" and got the number to this restaurant for a date night while visiting NYC. I thought it was very quaint and intimate. It's a small restaurant (maybe 20 patrons), but the service was impeccable. We didn't try the tasting menu, but made up our own. We tried the mac-n-cheese, black cod miso, sushi rice bowl and steak off of the special menu. We loved all of it, but would switch the steak for the branzino next time. Although it was good (esp the potatoes served with it), it was nothing extraordinary that we felt stood out. The other nazi party were amazing! No room for dessert, but definitely save room for some of their delicious cocktails! Can't wait to try some of the other secret locations!

We were recommended this place and we couldn't have been happier we managed to get a last minute table. The food was really really delicious, I would highly recommend the beef sashimi as a must have it was delicious.
We sat at the bar and watched all the amazing cocktails being made that looked delicious. It is a lovely cosy restaurant with a front living room vibe to it.
We expected this to be the high point of our trip to NYC
After going through hoops to get into the Bohemian, we took our two NYC guests. We were all excited. The staff were good, the low armchairs not made for eating comfort nor conversation.
The food was just above ordinary - and expensive. The best dish was without doubt the mini hamburgers. Skip the beef sashimi - tough, fat, and tiny. The Miso Cod was good, but not up to Nobu nor, dare I say, my own. The Croquettes were very good.
I would not return. One of our group ended up with seriously upset stomach possibly from the steak tartare.
Interesting experience
Loved the idea of going to an "invite only" restaurant, fun "secret" access.
Decor is nice, a bit run down. Tables are low, seating is not very comfortable. I would not recommend to anyone with back issues - maybe there are more comfortable tables that could be requested.
I am pescatarian, wanted to try the tasting menu with my friend, there is one course I could not have. They did accommodate but it was by doubling up on the sashimi course. Delicious, but i would have thought there would have been something more creative available, I am probably not the first person to ask for a "no meat" option.
The starting crudites were excellent - the rest of the courses were very good, but not the best I have had. Dessert was a bit disappointing.
Enjoyed a cucumber cocktail.
Our server was good, I would have liked a slightly slower pace, I was surprised that one course came while we were still finishing the prior.
Prices were not bad for NYC and the quality of the menu.
Definitely worth the visit - if you can get in!
great food
celebrated our anniversary, we went for the tasting menu, it was simply remarkable from start to finish, the staff was great!!!

What’s this? A secret restaurant in NYC? One, that you can only dine at either by knowing someone who has dined there, or writing essentially an essay as to why you love food. Ladies and gents, I was able to secure their phone number for a reservation by writing to them. Was it worth it? Heck, yes it was. I’ve wanted to dine at Bohemian ever since I saw the video on Eater touting their short rib sashimi. By perusing their hundreds of restaurant reviews, I can say that I was intrigued. How can I visit NYC, without dining here? It was inevitable. I called their number and asked if I could make a reservation a month later for a party of 6. Done and done.
Our reservation was at 6 pm. Our table was guaranteed from 6 pm to 8:30 pm, as the next seating was at 9 pm. Unfortunately, part of our party was stuck at the Tonight Show taping. I blame Jimmy Fallon. Two of my friends made it to the reservation and started ordering drinks. We had planned on doing the tasting menu ($80). They won’t let you the tasting menu unless the entire party has arrived. Partly because, the tasting menu is served family style so if your party isn’t present, it won’t work. We all made it well after the 6 pm seating and started ordering food and drinks. We made it in time and they were so gracious to let us keep our table. It doesn’t look like much outside and there’s even a doorbell you need to ring before making it inside. The hostess will greet you at the door. Once inside, the restaurant is tiny so seating is tight. I can see why they won’t just let you walk in. You have to call and check if they have availability.
Once seated, I ordered a matcha and whiskey cocktail. Our server said that the drink was not sweet and strong. I assured him that I wanted just that. My other friends also ordered drinks. For the tasting menu, they brought out the following:
Farmer’s Fresh Vegetable fondue: It came with plenty of root vegetables, radicchio, bell peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The cheese fondue was good with the crunchy veggies.
Uni Croquette: A fried mushroom cream croquette with uni. It was a delicious bite. The uni was delicate and buttery. The texture of the fried croquette went well with the uni too.
Washu-Beef Short Rib Sashimi: tender marbled strips of washu-beef served with soy-pickled garlic, daikon cubes, lemon and wasabi. This was so amazingly good. The beef was tender; the different accoutrements combined well with the flavors. I’d order this by itself next time.
Pan Roasted whole Branzino with seasonal vegetables: I really loved this dish. The fish was crispy and served whole. The vegetables were beautifully roasted. Everything was delicious.
Choice of Washu-beef mini burger or sashimi rice bowl: Most of us went with the mini burger and one person opted for the sashimi rice bowl. It was a pretty good burger and the fried potatoes were a nice side. They don’t serve the burger unless you order the tasting menu, but I suppose you could ask.
Morgenstern’s vanilla ice cream with yuzu crunch: a perfect ending to a lovely meal.
As you can see, the tasting menu is worth every penny. If you’re not looking to splurge, the a la carte menu is available as well. The food was prepared well and the service was exceptional. If you ever get a reservation, you’re in for a treat.
