Boulon Brasserie Tampa Reviews from The Last Year

It was our first time here - a party of 7, to celebrate a birthday, and we really enjoyed our Saturday brunch! We had the crab beignets as an appetizer (enough crab and every one loved them) the coffees were a good size and taste was bold but not overpowering. Four of our party chose the Boulon breakfast (eggs, potatoes, bacon and brioche toast) which wasn't enough food for our 6'5" friend but he lived with it. One person had the brioche eggs benedict and they started off by moaning how delicious it was, between the crab cake and creole sauce. I had the French toast which had an amazingly tasty orange sauce. The toast was thinly sliced which I appreciated. My mother asked to have something off of the brunch menu; filet mignon with bearnaise sauce, which she really enjoyed. Service was great! Our waiter had a good number of tables to serve, yet he managed to be attentive and very helpful. We enjoyed the atmosphere, decor and it wasn't noisy on a Saturday morning. We will definitely return!

Food is okay, service at the bar was horrible the lady with the red hair was very rude. Ambiance was eh.
Very nice atmosphere and service.
Great ambiance. Some of the food was great, but some were over salted and should have been better, especially a classic southern French dish at a French inspired restaurant.
Definitely try the ceviche if it's available on your visit.
It was excellent! On prior visit the crab appetizers were amazing so I would get that again. On the last visit the scallop risotto was great. On this visit (Tuesday night) I got the mushroom rigatoni but it had way too much cream and it wasn't thoroughly mixed in and minimal tiny pieces of mushrooms. The rigatoni was cooked perfectly but I couldn't eat it as the cream was just too much. We also got the bread service and the bread was hard like day old bread. Quite disappointing. We decided to skip dessert on this visit even though we have previously enjoyed the profiteroles.
I was looking for a nice place to have dessert and drinks
I was looking for a nice place to have dessert and drinks when I stumbled upon Boulon! I have come a couple times now because I love the vibes and the crème brûlée! I have only been on weekend nights, so it can be a bit noisy inside, but it's been such a great experience there! I love the high class feel and atmosphere but they still have a bar section and an array of individuals! My first time our server was very attentive, but my last trip they weren't as attentive. We were at the location pretty late, but the food was still great! Both times I came without a reservation and was seated immediately! My go to order is the crème brûlée, but the butter cake is a close second for dessert! I highly recommend their desserts! I hope to stop in soon for dinner!
food rankings - blueberry danish: 10/10 - chocolate
food rankings - blueberry danish: 10/10 - chocolate zucchini muffin: 10/10 - chocolate chip cookie: 8.5/10 food commentary: BLUEBERRY DANISH SOO GOOD!!! wow. i tried to get the strawberry one but they said it was so popular that they are redesigning it. oh you know i will be back to get that danish... chocolate zucchini muffin was divine. very rich chocolate flavor and very moist! cookie: i enjoyed the cookie it has a very good flavor and it has salt on the top which is always important. the cookie was crumbley, very interesting texture. it fell apart when breaking it but it was also gooey in the middle. reminds me a lot of cornflake texture cookie if anyone understands. they heated up all the food for you! which makes everything taste so much better and a great touch. ambiance/parking: it's so beautiful inside. they also have cute little bear stir spoons!! we parked at publix across the street. they have indoor and outdoor seating.
A friend who lives in the area brought us to this spot
A friend who lives in the area brought us to this spot after we had a mix up with our reservations at a different place. Most of us were not excited for this place as soon as we walked in due to the noise and crowd. That is why I took one star away. The food was on point. The onion soup was one of the best I ever had. The broth was rich, filled with beautifully caramelized onions and topped with a blend of baked cheeses. For main course I had a rigatoni with shrimp. The sauce was creamy and the shrimp were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I will definitely be back but maybe not on a later weekend night.
Beautiful restaurant with incredible food and service.
Was there for a private event in their event room with a patio and it was great. The snapper was incredible. Tried the shrimp cocktail, crab puff thing, tuna tartar, and the charcuterie board for apps and it was all excellent.

Ordered 2 nonfat cappuccinos, got only 1 with almond milk, not nonfat. Sandwiches on stale bread, croissants had way too much butter. Best to find breakfast elsewhere.
I had eaten at Boulon in December and it was excellent.
But I ate there last night and it was mediocre. The french bread, that you pay $5.00 for, which had been so excellent in December was stale and dry. And the duck that I loved in December just didn't seem fresh and seemed dry also. Very disappointed. And the escargot was wayyyy too rich and not particularly enjoyable. Not sure how the food can change so fast in just a few months - I presume new chefs, new managers?

Came in before the lightning game for some tinis & soup! We were running about 10 mins late to our reservation due to insane traffic before the game & had to call ahead to make sure they would hold our table. The soup was great & the martinis were solid!
Too late for brunch, but too early for dinner
We arrived at 2:55 and sat down at our table. We were given a brunch menu. Since it was a few minutes to 3 o’clock we figured we could also see a dinner menu since we figured brunch was about to end. Our waitress told us the kitchen was about to close. She said she told the kitchen that she had a new table so we could still order. She brought water and didn’t take our drink order at that time. By the time she came back for that it was about 10 minutes later. She then said the kitchen was closed and pointed to things on the menu that were no longer available. We asked if there was a dinner menu & she said not until 5 o’clock. We couldn’t have brunch but couldn’t have dinner either. I’ve never heard of such a thing. So the place basically closes for 2 hours to get ready for dinner which is bizarre. We ordered Caesar salads and they were decent but the whole menu thing is not a good experience!!
Brunch Break
My husband and I recently had brunch here and I’m surprised by so many negative reviews. We had a delicious meal with excellent, friendly service. We were walking around Water Street and were drawn here do to the décor and ambiance. I did find the brunch menu a bit limited and settled on the smash burger and fries. The burger hit the spot; however it was a bit messy to eat. The fries were seasoned nicely and were crispy on the outside and pillowy soft inside. My husband ordered the Boulon breakfast which comes with two eggs, bacon, frito maison and brioche toast. There is a bakery attached that had a showcase of fresh pastries that were tempting my palate, if I wasn’t so full I would have indulged in something. The day we were there they had a musician up front playing the guitar which was a nice touch.
Quick stop for an app!
Crab beignets, what a treat! We were early so, able to walk in. Service was great! Just a cocktail and off to the Lightning game.
Terrible
My experience was horrible. I spent $290 with friends for drinks and food. I go outside briefly to come in to the staff informing me I’m kicked out for stealing(stealing what I’m unsure of). I raised the issue to later be informed that I’m kicked out for “being too drunk”(I’ve been sober for years). I inform the staff they must have me confused with someone else they don’t care. I later go to the edition with my friends and have no issues. Just a weird place to kick people out who have done nothing. It feels very personal as I don’t look like their typical customer.
Très salé
Disappointing in that the food was so heavily laden with salt. The escargot were so salty that the flavors were completely overtaken as the salt lingered, burning the palette. The bread, while freshly baked came with salted butter. Even the profiteroles (served without the traditional tureen of chocolate) were salty! The duck confit was good (not nearly as salty as everything else). The salad dressing was a bit overpowering (again: salty and a bit heavy on the vinegar). . The service was inconsistent and somewhat inattentive but very friendly. The atmosphere was lively and loud until about 9pm then gradually became more quiet and empty. Oddly, the mirrors, a common feature in French brasseries, were placed too high to face any relevance or function. While traditional French cuisine is what we were hoping to find this did not quite meet our expectations.
Worth the traffic nightmare
We almost bailed on our efforst to have our first dinner at Boulon. (We heard so many good things about it and had been trying to obtain reservations for months.) The traffic jams caused by an event at Amelie Arena and the terrible City of Tampa traffic control plan that totally disregards all of the efforts to make Water Street a "go to" area, almost made it impossible to get to the restuarant. Thankfully we persevered and enjoyed an outstanding "date night" dinner. The French Martini was a delicious way to decompress from the traffic. The Blue crab beignet is a delectable variation of the crab cake. The French Onion soup is also excellent. The Escargots were generous in size and number and were very good. The Bouillabaisse is a must. The order of Pain Maison was warm and delicious and supplemented the baguette that came with the Bouillabaisse as a means to capture all of the wonderful broth. The butter cake dessert was to die for. The bread pudding was excellent except it wasn't served as warm as we thought it should be. However, when we pointed this out our server when she asked how we enjoyed the desserts, Boulon immediately comped the dessert even though that wasn't our objective. The amosphere and decor are delightful. This is truely one of the best restuarants in Tampa. The only negatives were the traffic and the lack of valet parking. We will go back, but only on a night when nothing is scheduled at the arena.
Tipping gone crazy
Brunch with the family and nothing disappointed but also nothing jumped out and would be worthwhile a repeat. Of course the place is very cool and the bar absolutely looks amazing. However looking at the cocktails or bourbon list in particular than it's obvious that the length of the list impressive however there aren't many specialty bourbons on it. But that's a complete different story and we came for brunch and not for bourbon :-) So why the 1 Star rating if overall food was ok. Reason for the 1 Star rating is the ongoing level restaurants, especially upscale, feel the need to push the tipping level higher and higher. Boulan suggested tip levels are 30%, 25%, or 22%. I personal think it's totally stupid that 30% is becoming the norm and the old 20% for great service isn't even any longer considered acceptable.
Not a good experience
The ambiance is very nice but soooo disappointed with food ! not French at all, deserts are horrible... very expansive for the quality. We will not come back.
Rude hostesses
I went for dinner when they first opened and the food was okay, very expensive for “okay” so I decided to try brunch. Didn’t even get to have brunch because the hostesses were so rude they made us feel unwelcome and ignored us when my husband asked for a table. I love downtown and go out often and I will never come back.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
