This is our 2nd time dining at this restaurant.
Food is authentic and delicious. Presentation is very good. Excellent cocktails. Great vibe for this kind of a cuisine. To top it off, the host and master chef Vikas Khanna is simply gracious and charming. His eyes are all over the place and he doesn't miss anything. You can see and experience his passion in the food. Only thing is that hopefully they can make their reservation system more seamless and easier.

Folks I can say this with full confidence that Bungalow has probably the best Indian food in NYC! We finally got a reservation (which is tough to get) and had dinner with friends on a week night. The place was buzzing with the celebrity chef himself, Vikas Khanna, to welcome and talk to you. The food is fabulous and masterful curated by Mr Khanna. Some interesting regional specialties that he has brought to NYC. Loved the ambiance of the place as well. The decor makes you feel like you are in a garden. Service was super quick with food coming out promptly even though the place was packed. I found a peculiar "foodie" vibe at this place which I haven't seen before - with some of the patrons being restaurateurs themselves as were the couple on the table next to us. Guess even the competition is coming in to experience this place. I recommend sampling this place for yourself, I think you won't be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyBungalow is a fantastic addition to the NYC Indian food
Bungalow is a fantastic addition to the NYC Indian food scene, bringing a refreshing and innovative touch to the city's diverse culinary landscape. The menu is daring and inventive, successfully pushing the boundaries of traditional Indian flavors in a way that is both exciting and delicious. The cocktails are similarly outstanding and pair excellently with the food. The ambiance is equally impressive, truly reminiscent of an airy bungalow with plenty of space that fosters a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. The service is also impeccable. Definitely will be a regular spot whenever I'm craving modern Indian cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyReally good food and vibe .
Tried twice both time it's good food and service . Highly recommend this place to all good lover

Amazing service, and it was wonderful that the chef/owner personally came to check on every table. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and decorated in a very cozy British/indian style. The food was also amazing. Loved the vegetarian yogurt kebabs and the chicken curry, and was surprised by the pineapple curry and how much I liked it. Desserts were also fabulous; cant wait to return!

I've searched high & low for indian food in America that compares to food back in India & Bungalow really provided one of the most authentic experiences I've had to date. The lamb & yogurt kababs were two of the best first bites I've ever had. The hospitality by chef Vikas Khanna and his team was so welcoming; I don't think I've ever had such a personable experience with a restaurant owner/chef! Truly an amazing meal and highly recommend trying it out if you can get your hands on a res :)

Here's the rephrased review: I'm giving one star solely because of the two ladies at the counter. We didn't have a reservation and decided to try our luck by walking in. The two front desk ladies were extremely rude and informed us there would be a 1.5 hour wait. We agreed to wait, but as we were heading out after being put on the waitlist, one of them rudely told us they would only hold the table for 10 minutes. After waiting for an hour, when we inquired about the status and the response was "I told you you the wait time is 2hr and it has only been 1 hr so expect to wait for another hour. (We were next in line on the wait list)" What happened to all the customer service and being polite with customers? I don't expect this from Vikas Khanna's team. I have seen his interviews and he is so humble and this experience was totally opposite of what we expected from his staff.

Exceptional people create exceptional experiences, and Bungalow is no exception! Upon first entering the space, it's clear how much thought and love has gone in to it. There's an inviting seating area as you first come in, followed by an intimate bar, booths, and then a stunning indoor patio in the back, creating many different looks but one, overall, impressive feel. As a group, we must have ordered two thirds of the menu, and everything was delicious, elevated further by the beautiful presentation. This elevated approach to Indian cuisine was a new experience for me, while still retaining the flavors that I love so much. We came for the food, but the cocktail menu is equally impressive, with a couple I've never tried before but truly enjoyed. The service was warm and attentive. And we were lucky enough to catch Vikas himself while we there! He's truly a lovely and extraordinary person. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyWe love Indian food from all regions but Bungalow, Michelin
We love Indian food from all regions but Bungalow, Michelin star chef Vikas Khanna's new restaurant, is unique in the best possible ways on all counts: food, drinks, service, and ambiance. When you enter you're warmly welcomed into the beautiful, intimate space decorated with Indian murals, vintage photos, and chandeliers. Servers consulted with us making great recommendations. Cocktails were Indian inspired, innovative, and excellent, and the four of us shared a number of dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed everything, including both small and large plates, purple sweet potato chaat, yogurt kabab, lamb chops, spice roasted pineapple, goat nihari, Tandoori roti, and an assortment of desserts. Chef Khanna's presence is much seen and tasted. When not in the kitchen he is a warm host, going from table to table engaging diners. We had a fantastic experience certain to be repeated!

Amazing food , great ambiance and the best of all was the elite hospitality. Chef Vikas Khanna came to the table first to greet us then to serve the food himself with so much love . It certainly made a great dining experience for us . Our daughter 's birthday certainly was made special by Team Bungalow.

I went during the first week of opening and had a great experience. Food was so good- lamb chops, yogurt kebab (must order), roasted pineapple, anarkali chicken. The service was great too! Staff super attentive on food and drinks. I also probably had like 3 vimaan drinks- unique whiskey drink. The rest of my party ordered it after trying mine. I'm actually heading back in a couple weeks and hoping it still holds up. I have no problem paying $$$ for innovative Indian food with great flavors and high quality ingredients.
Be the first to ReplyThe food, service and ambience is 5 star and beyond.
Vikas Khanna has created magic. I highly recommend it!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience.
Tasted quite a few dishes. Favorites were shrimp balchao cones, lamb chops, banarasi puri ,pineapple curry and kulfi. The chef comes out and talks with the guests, explains about the spices and inspiration behind the dishes. Ambiance is beautiful.Reminded me of homes in India back in the day. Hard to get reservations but worth a visit.
Be the first to ReplyNote: Food is around a 3.
2 but the service for once lowers the rating significantly. A friend of mine somehow got a reservation at this restaurant a few days ago and our group of six went. The food here was pretty solid though with some flaws. This is a gorgeous space and they clearly put a lot of effort into it. To drink, I had the Holi Moly for $20 with Kashmiri chili infused mezcal, passion fruit, lime, orange chili cordial, saline, and Kashmiri thandai oil. It was alright but flawed. It was a bit unbalanced mostly tasting of mezcal with a backbone of passion fruit and chili. They thought their drinks were OK also. We ordered the following for our group of six splitting each dish three ways (outside of me ordering the farmer roti separately) and we originally were going to get a biryani. However, the waitress asked us if we had enough lamb chops and she said they are 2 to an order. My friend asked to confirm as he had seen many photos showing that they were three pieces and she was confident that there was only two so we went with two three lamb chops so that everyone got a chop and decided to not get the biryani. They gave us something tasty to begin with what reminded me a bit of papadum but not exactly which had puffed rice topped with powdered sour spicy chili. They were tasty and quite addictive. Food arrived fast and we asked them to slow down as they had overcrowded our table and we barely had room and it stopped entirely so I guess it's either full speed ahead or complete stop. Our first small dish that arrived was the Lamb Seekh Kabobs (three pieces) with kumquat pickle, plum chutney, peanut crumble, and cheese filling for $20. This was tasty and well spiced with a bit of sourness from the chutney. The kabob had a unique crumbly texture and it was very tender with the amul cheese filling adding some nice softness. The pickled kumquat added an extra crunch and sweetness and the crumble added some nuttiness. Well thought out and I would recommend it. We soon got the three orders of the Ammi's Lamb Chops for $30 with amchur, green papaya, poppy, ginger, and garlic which as per the photos came with three lamb chops each. We asked about this and the waitress said that it's based on weight going back on her old confident answer and honestly if she didn't know, she should have asked. Regardless of the issue, the chops were very tender and well flavored but I've had a lot better for similar prices or more at many other Indian spots. We also got the Shrimp Balchao Cones for $18 with nigella, tamarind, garlic, and curry leaves. This also came with three and was okay. The shrimp had the characteristic Goan style sour and spicy flavoring and were sweet and tender and was the best part of the dish. The cones were made of nice buttery and flaky bread but there was honestly too much of it. This was OK. In terms of bread, he ordered two of the Tandoori Roti for $6 each and I got an order of the Farmers Sattu Roti for $12 with roasted chickpea flour, ghee, and flaky salt. The former was OK being the same quality as most other roti though it was a bit cool. The latter was much better being both a more tender warmer bread with a better texture. I'd skip the former. As we skipped the biryani, our solo main dish was the Rajasthani Pulled Lamb for $30 with caramelized onions, black pepper, ghee, and pickled shallots. This was essentially their version of one of my favorite dishes laal maas though with shredded lamb instead of the usual chunks which was honestly a preference. The lamb was very tender and very well spiced. This came with some pickled shallots on the side though there definitely could have been more as well as an extra sauce which added some extra heat. This went well with the bread though the saucy dish needed rice ($9 extra for plain basmati btw.) They gave us some complimentary dessert I presume because of the service issues earlier though she did add it on the bill later (this was fixed.) The main dessert was the Rose Kulfi normally for $16 with candied rose petals, butterfly pea rabri, and white chocolate bark. Artfully presented to look like a rose itself, the ice cream itself had a unpleasant icy texture which kind of ruined the usual creaminess and richness associated with kulfi until it melted a bit. Very good rose flavor. The rabri went texturally well with it and it was alright overall. They also gave us a freebie which I would describe as a cardamom whipped cream topped with powdered candied rose with a little bit of peach on the bottom. It was OK though basic. They gave some rose/fennel seed mukhwas (breath freshener) at the end with the bill which was a good touch. Flavors were solid but our experience wasn't. Out of review room. 2.4 P.S: Shoutouts to the chef who was going around to every table except for ours for some reason. Maybe it was since we were not Indian like 98% of the people eating but who knows?

#chefvikaskhanna's #bungalownyc lucky & fortunate to have gotten a table at this very fine new Indian restaurant in town. With a beautiful decor and ambiance welcoming you, one felt like walking into a huge entrance of a real bungalow. Though the place was packed, it never felt crowded, cramped or noisy like many top Indian restaurants which I would attribute to the way it is laid out. The highlight of the evening was of course meeting the #masterchef himself who was so friendly, humble and very down to earth. It was such a surreal experience that set a positive vibe throughout the evening. Tried one of their signature cocktail which was passable. Food overall was subtle, flavorful and aromatic but unfortunately nothing really stood out. All the items from the Small Plates we tried were palatable while I'm told the Shrimp Balchao Cones was exceptional. Unfortunately can't say the same for items on the Large Plates with the exception of Kokum Salmon which I'm told was really good while I felt Chicken Chitranee and Biryani were a total let down. Fortunately we rounded it off with some sumptuous desserts in the form of Rose Kulfi, Saffron Panna Cotta and chef's special PRP (stands for passion fruit, rose and peach) sandwich which were truly exceptional. Price was akin to any top tier desi restaurant in town so there were no surprises. Overall a great experience and would rate it as a B+ with the following breakdown - Ambiance 4/5, Hospitality 5/5, Food & Drinks 3.5/5 and Service 4/5.
Be the first to ReplyI was extremely disappointed with the food.
My fav thing on the menu was Dahi kabab and the special dessert that was offered off the menu. Everything else was so bad! The paneer chandi is the worst gravy of my life. It's literally like Rabdi with paneer chunks that were hard, imagine that with garlic naan

Don't expect to get a response from email requesting a reservation for 8. I called multiple times and finally I got someone who said they take long to respond. I explained it was for a birthday celebration and have people visiting out of state and she said she would forward my email. Still waiting a week later. Not sure if food is good but I can say they don't want my business. At least acknowledge my email, even if you can't accommodate my party.

I was honestly super hyped to try this spot, since my friend had mentioned how hard it was to get a reservation, plus the general hype around it. The interior is modern and well put together; we were sat in the atrium, which has a glass ceiling that allows some of the outside light in, and it's overall beautiful. We started with the yogurt kabob, which was our favorite thing of the night. Super creamy interior, and the exterior had a super crispy crunch which balanced the creaminess. The sauces added nice tartness. We also got the purple sweet potato chaat, and this was not good at all. Way too salty, the mango sauce was way too sour, and the flavors were just much too overwhelming. Texture was lacking uniqueness as well; the potato chaat was overly dense. For entrees, the spice roasted pineapple was also a miss. The pineapple doesn't pick up much flavor itself, so it just tastes like pineapple, and the curry it's in is too thin to contribute much either. The paneer chandni was great though; super creamy curry sauce, and the paneer itself was also clearly fresh. The goat nihari was also good, but honestly tasted like something I could get at any local Indian restaurant. Overall, I don't think it lived up to the hype; definitely some highlights, but there were several dishes that truly tasted bad.
Be the first to ReplyLet's start with the ambiance.
Opulent and traditional! Loved the interiors. We were seated in the area which had climbers and flowers on the roof and walls. I felt that was beautiful. Food: Cocktails: We tried chai pani and holly molly. Both were amazing. Starters: Dahi kebab: Must try. Delicious! Crispy on outside and silky soft on the inside. With perfect sauce and murabba Kashmirs kiss: interesting textures with an amazing and delicious sauce main course: Paneer Chandini: Rich creamy white sauce with perfect flavoring. I love the drizzle of the chili oil. looked beautiful with the golden leaf. Super soft homemade paneer. Sattu ki roti: this is a very traditional roti from India. Very nutritious and protein packed. It's usually very hardto find this in restaurants. Super good and delicious. It's usually accompanied by a sauce and onion raita. Garlic naan: Textbook! Desserts: Saffron panacotta : panacotta was my least favorite item. There was no jiggle. It was very dense. The flavor was below average Cons: some dishes like garlic naan and Sattu roti did not innovation. That might be a feature than a bug Very average desserts Pros : Everything else and the fairwell gift Will I come here again? Yes but not for deserts.
