Cabra Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Flavors are excellent as always with Stephanie Izzards food
Flavors are excellent as always with Stephanie Izzards food but the portions are small and the price is expensive. Might be worth it in the summer for a rooftop but as just a restaurant it's too much. Service was good.

Set on top the Hoxton Hotel in West Loop, Cabra is a rooftop restaurant that offers amazing food and captivating city views! My girlfriend and I got a reservation and we were able to get a really nice view of the city from our table. We ordered the Spicy Tuna Avocado Dip, Hamachi Tiradito, Chorizo Anticucho, Grilled Carrots, Steak Saltado, and Limorange Pie. The standouts for us were: -The Spicy Tuna Avocado Dip was perfectly complemented by thin and crispy Taro and sweet potato chips. The Dip had spicy yellowfin tuna, tomato yuzu, and a shio combo crunch. -The Grilled Carrots was also very good -- limey and cooked perfectly. They elevated a simple vegetable into a really delicious dish. -The Steak Saltado was the highlight and came with tomatoes, crispy potatoes, peppers, and onion. The meat was super tender and drenched with a delicious saltado sauce. While we didn't get to try the Goat Empanadas this time, they're definitely on our list for our next visit. Will be back soon to try their other dishes!
Cabra is in the Hoxton hotel located in West Loop.
It is on the top floor of boasting amazing views during all seasons. I love coming here in the summer and sitting on the patio for a drink. I love all Stephanie Izards restaurants however the food and service falls short for me at this one. The raspberry drink on the menu tastes like cough syrup and I've been here multiple times and felt rushed out of my table to get the next reservation seated. The food is subpar for the price. I would recommend coming here for a drink and sitting at the bar during the summer. I'll give it another shot because I want to love this restaurant, but haven't fallen quite yet.
Overall experience was good.
Waiter was nice and made recommendations which is always great. Their drinks on the menu were not the best tasting but their brunch house shots were great. My table shared the pork belly which was a 10/10. Also ordered the avocado dip which had a good flavor but reminded me of avocado paste so that wasn't my favorite. Then we ordered the skirt saltado which was decent, steak was tender and was flavorful however we also ordered the eggplant saltado and there was 3 eggplants which was disappointing. Potatoes were a tad salty. We had another round of shots but that was after the waiter rudely brought us our check which we didn't ask for. So we asked for another round of house shots and paid the bill because it felt we were rushed out! I believe we were there for 1.5 hours total!

Loved the place! We ordered from the vegetarian menu and tired 4 dishes: Beet Tataki: Crispy & Fresh was my favorite dish from our order- The beet was flavored nicely with crunch from carrots and radish was amazing. Mushroom Ceviche: Well balanced and easy on the pallet. Over the place has a vibrant energy, even during the winter months when the pool area is closed. The service was good and even though we had to wait 10mins past our reservation time, the food and service made up for it.
Great ceviche.
The chicken was outstanding, the service was good and our server was super efficient,

Visited this wonder on an early Saturday afternoon with my best friend and I am glad she took me. We started off with a couple of drinks. We got the Pisco Sour and Return of Saturn and both were really good. We also got the salmon ceviche for an appetizer and I could honestly eat three of those and be a happy panda. We chose the Chicken Thai Anticucho and the Salchipapas to share for out main dishes. Both were really good and I love the spice on the chicken. Both great options to share, just wish they had more of it! Overall good place to enjoy some Peruvian food with a bestie or a good group. Noise level wasnt bad when we ate there (around 1230 -2). Didnt need reservation but probably safe to have some in OT just in case it gets busy. Parking is limited to street parking with some pay to park spots. Can't wait to explore in the summer when the outdoor patio and pool are open.

Went Cabra with customers, spent 433 dollars in dinner for 4 people. I go there quite often in the past. But notice this time that there is this charge called benefits charge. I called them and it's nothing more than profit for the restaurant and it's quote, 'voluntary' 'it's in the fine print of the menu', I never though that I have to read the fine print of a menu, when I go out to eat. I have been seeing more and more of these charges in CHICAGO restaurants and it's time to take a stand on these hidden charges that they add onto your bill without prior consent ! I will now stop going to any restaurant that have these charges and will write a review to warn anyone to not go.

Cabra is celebrity chef Stephanie Izard's take on Peruvian food and while I have not yet had the opportunity to have dinner here, this spot definitely serves up a satisfying brunch. We stopped by for their 4 course restaurant week menu. We enjoyed the dishes so much that we ended up ordering the shrimp tacu tacu and bacon and egg solterito off their regular menu. The restaurant week menu offered tuna avocado dip, shrimp causa, a big maple sausage empanada, and quinoa French toast. Each dish definitely delivered and the empanada and French toast in particular was fantastic. The restaurant was spacious and the service was very friendly and accommodating despite being slammed with customers. Overall, this was a great brunch and I look forward to sampling food off their dinner menu.
Food and drinks were delicious! Their service was in point.
We left very full and very happy with all of the food and drink choices that we made. Definitely went to go back in the warmer weather to sit out by the pool.

Really like the food and environment! And service is incredible too! I would recommend this place to anyone who likes Peruvian food! Really nothing to complaint! Everything is perfect!

First and foremost, shout-out to Chris our server, he was extremely kind and even gave us the soft serve swirl on him for our anniversary. I would like to note that it *was* in fact our anniversary and thus the gift was appreciated very much. However, this is not to encourage one to lie about such an occasion, solely for the purpose of receiving free food. If you're reading this Chris, I just want to say that it actually was our anniversary, and I strongly condemn anyone lying about such an occasion in order to get food. Anyway, we dined here during restaurant week and had the prix fixe dinner. My girlfriend enjoyed every course, but I was a little taken aback by how acidic and lime forward all the dishes were, but still enjoyed them. We particularly enjoyed the avocado dip, the chorizo, and the steak. The rooftop view was a nice look out over West loop. The table seats are a combination of regular seats and comfy couches, which I think is fun! It was a little cold despite me sitting right next to a heater. There is a bar. Docked one star because of the lime thing and it being a tad pricy. Still left the restaurant very full Shout-out to Chris!
Good food, great views and awesome customer service.
Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Everything was delicious, such high quality.
We loved the empanadas and all the cocktails.
Still lovely food and kind service.
It was swamped due to restaurant week and nice weather, but the one drawback for those of us who want to visit with friends: the music is really too loud to do anything except shout. It will have to be on our not some often list in the future.
Beautiful evening with top notch service
Christina our server was an absolute delight! Her recommendations were spot on and we enjoyed a beautiful dinner. Our compliments to the chef as well, our tastebuds have had an evening of surprise and wonder.
Disappointing
Disengaged, disinterested and bored staff. No one overseeing the restaurant. In Chicago for the day and decided to have brunch there and try out another restaurant from the same stable as Duck Duck Go. Food excellent as one would expect but the service really let it down. Wish we had gone with DDG.
City views with great atmosphere and unique tapas type offerings.
Unique and delicious food, beautiful city view, thoughtful service, awesome music playing. Big bar with unique cocktail options. A bit pricey for the portion sizes, however.
Flavorful, fresh and beautiful
I can not rave enough about this place. The great experience started upon arrival where a young female dj was playing fantastic music….. At a pleasant volume. The entire space is beautifully decorated and the outdoor patio was delightful on a chilly afternoon. The view from our table of the high rises in the loop was perfection. There was also a fireplace which at the time wasn’t on but we will be back when the weather is cooler. We started out with cocktails from a talented bar tender. We ordered several “last words” that had the perfect balance of tartness, herbiness and a tiny bit of sweetness. Then we ordered chicken thigh anticucho which was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I know, the humble chicken thigh, but the char was just right and the marinade and sauces balanced the char to create perfection. The vegetable dish solterito is something I will try to duplicate at home. It was a larger vegetable dish which is often difficult to find on restaurant menus. The veggies were crisp tender, varied in texture and amazingly dressed in a tart dressing that might have a little toasted sesame oil. Those two dishes would be a perfect dinner but we had others. We also had mushroom ceviche (!!!!!!), tuna tataki, and yucca frites. I added the frites in case the portions were too small and we were still hungry. They were perfectly fine but not as interesting as the other items and we actually could only eat one so we boxed them up to go. I can not imagine any future trip to Chicago without at least one meal at Cabra. The outdoor dining, the food, the decor, the music all create the perfect restaurant for this diner.
Good but too expensive for what it is
The welcome is quite impersonal and the room very dark and noisy. You have to use your phone's flashlight to read the menu.... I am taken care of by a rather friendly waitress. I will start with the Classic ceviche then, as a main course, will have the Steak saltado. Overall it was good but the portions were small, especially the ceviche. I will therefore have a second starter to finish my meal: a duck ceviche which will also be good. When ordering dessert the waitress comes to me and says "the bill..." ....well if that's how I accept and will not have coffee or dessert. It's good but the setting isn't exceptional and at over 100 dollars (without the service) it's clearly too expensive for what it is.
Great food, staff can be distracted
I love the food at this place. The decor, view, and the vibe is great. We always like to come for a meal here because the food is creative and delicious...down to the crunchy quinoa. Small comment: we were there early one evening and it was pretty empty. There were a million people working the place. Our server had friends sitting at another table and he spent most of the time visiting with them. Didn't need him much, but it would have been great to be able ask him a question. I get that its slow at times, but its odd to be dining at a place where there are a million employees and no one is even paying attention to you.
AMAZING!
Absolutely amazing experience! This place has it all, great ambience, great food, and great cocktails. The service was phenomenal. Me and my friends ordered the chorizo and queso dip, aswell as the chicken., recommend both dishes. If you are lucky enough to get a table this is the perfect place for dinner at a fun/party environment! Plus: they have a dj!
Accomodating staff
One of my favorite experiences while visiting Chicago. Great drinks and fantastic appetizers the decor and views were top notch. I had a large group of 8 with a reservation for 9:30pm, 30 mins prior to closing. The staff never made us feel rushed, were welcoming and accommodating. Don't miss a chance to check this place, out.
Our Favorite Place
Had dinner here while on vacation. Thank goodness we had a reservation ! The restaurant was packed! Our waitress was wonderful - kind & polite. She went above & beyond to answer questions we had about the menu, asking the chef and manager just to be sure about some items due to a food allergy. Overall, the food was great, service was great, valet car service was a blessing. We will definitely go back.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time
This place is amazing! From the moment we arrived and were greeted very warmly, to the food and service, everything was 100% perfect. It’s a very nice atmosphere, on the 12th floor with an outdoor area and nice bar area. The menu is very extensive, there is something for everyone. We started with 2 of the tuna appetizers…both very fresh and tasty and a great sauce on one of them. Pretty decent portions. We then had the larger entrees of the Cornish hen and steak…WOW…first of all, they were large portions, I was not expecting that, we could have just gotten one but I am glad we were able to try different entrees. The chicken was so moist and tender served with some fried potatoes. The steak was awesome, with the most amazing sauce I’ve tasted, also served with potatoes which were so good and peppers and tomatoes. Did not have dessert since we were full. Service was spot on, we never felt rushed. I cannot wait to go back to try different dishes. I would highly recommend!

The main page will typically show you restaurants rankings based on city. I am new too and its been mostly guess work and trying the ones that are high ranking. I right now am sticking to top 10's but still waiting to hit that first sale.
