Disappointing
I was looking forward to brunching with my family at the new Cafe Boulud at the location that formerly housed the Park Avenue Cafe. Alas, it turned out to be a total disappointment as a result of the pompously inefficient service, average food quality at best, and a long long wait for my second cup of coffee!

Cafe Boulud is so nice. The restaurant is not only stunning but the food is excellent too. The attention to detail is amazing. Great place to have a great meal.

Exceptional upscale food. The dishes were like art. Amazing taste and nicely presented. The red wine bottles were exceptional too. Amazing meal.
Be the first to Reply$5 for tap water?
We returned to the new Cafe Boulud after several satisfying dinners at the old Cafe Boulud. The food, service and decor are all impressive. However, the big turn off came at the end of the meal when there was a $5 charge on our bill for tap water which we requested in lieu of bottled water. $5 is not a big deal, but nowhere was there an indication that there would be charge. When we asked the manager about this, he offered to remove the charge, but his attitude was dismissive and condescending. It left a bad taste in our mouths after what was otherwise a lovely dining experience. Because of how this was handled, I doubt we'll return.
Be the first to ReplyThe NEW Cafe Boloud - Just as Good
My wife and I snagged a prime time dinner reservation at the NEW Cafe Boulud and went there on a cold evening recently. The place was packed of course. We had to wait for about 20 minutes while our table opened up - an inconvenience, but not the end of the world. We were seated at a banquette. The room was lively, but not overly loud. And the room is beautiful. Monsieur Boulud himself was in attendance. The service was excellent. The wine list is quite adequate - not sumptuous, but very adequate. As for the food, it had the typical Boulud patina of professionalism and style. Really quite good in all particulars. The menu is prix fixe in 2 or 3 courses and not exorbitantly priced actually. If you want a very professional, classy dinner experience, this is your place. We didn't see any famous faces in the crowd, but it was a Sunday night, so we didn't expect to see any. The dress of the crowd was not formal, but not sloppy. I wore a suit out of respect for Monsieur Boulud, but you don't have to.

We went here for my husbands birthday. I wasn’t too sure if it would’ve been family friendly due to the menu that I saw online, however, it was great!! My 2 kids (age 5 and 6) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

this restaurant is not open at the present time. We were used to having dinner there upon arrival on our first night. Apparently the Sutton hotel where it was located, has been sold so nothing was open.
Be the first to ReplyVery good French restaurant
Excellent food and pleasant environment- had a family dinner there (all adults) during a visit to Toronto. My sons who have been the US /Canada for a while were craving for French food . They (and I ) were not disappointed! the food and service were very good. A special mention for the scallops which were cooked to perfection . I highly recommend it.

Exceptional dining - definitely recommend the truffle & sea bass. What a classy, wonderful experience!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Staff and Safe for Covid
This is a great restaurant. The food is fantastic and the staff is great. They had the tables spaced out perfectly and even had heating lamps.
I spoke to Joe for one of my reservations and he was exceptional. So nice and made me feel safe to dine out during COVID.
For my other visit (last night) I booked with Patrick. I had many questions about my table as I am very nervous with COVID and he could have not been more kind and patient. I called a few times with questions and changed the time of my reservation due to my work schedule, and he could have not been more accommodating.
He made my experience SO wonderful. Staff like this will make me feel safe to come back.
Two Stellar Lunches
Six weeks ago Restaurant Week came to an end. Out of the six places I chose, Café Boulud was exceptional both for its fine cuisine and its impeccable service. Eden and I had a grand lunch here. Between the two of us we had pâté de campagne with pickled vegetables, mustard and grilled sourdough bread, and pan-seared medium rare salmon with vegetables and gremolata. I absolutely loved my mushroom velouté, which looked like a Dutch still life. Each spoonful was velvety smooth, touched with Madeira cream and mouthfuls of crunchy brioche croutons. My choice of braised beef paleron nestled on a bed of creamy polenta accompanied by broccoli rabe moistened with red wine—well, it just made me ecstatic. Eden chose wine over dessert. But I was not giving up a sweet course. Passion fruit! Meringue! I slowly ate this tart served with a quenelle of toasted meringue ice cream, savoring every heavenly bite.
Remembering that fine meal, I chose to have my birthday lunch at Café Boulud in late February. This time we were a party of three, and we had a marvelous time attended by the dapper Ronnie, the kind and efficient server, who had looked after us so well during RW. A prix fixe lunch of either two or three courses was offered. This time Eden had the carrot ginger soup which had a glorious orange hue. Carole and I opted for the seared yellowfin tuna with charred scallion relish, grapefruit and citrus aioli. All of us chose the crisp pork schnitzel with braised red cabbage tucked underneath strewn with sautéed herbed spätzel and pickled vegetables. Each morsel made us swoon. Both Eden and Carole drank wine and refused a dessert. Again, not I! The two desserts of rice pudding and the citrus blonde on the prix fixe menu seemed rather plain. I preferred the desserts from the regular menu but found myself hankering for two of them especially. I adore meringue but that seemed too extravagant. So I chose the chocolate gâteau with burnt vanilla, caraibe mousse and toasted meringue. You could imagine my surprise when Ronnie brought first a complimentary dessert which had meringue, sorbet, tuiles and birthday greetings inscribed on the rim of the plate. This dessert was both light and refreshing. All of us had spoons and nibbled away. Then came the chocolate gâteau which looked exquisite decorated with gold leaf. Far from being heavy as chocolate sometimes can be, this dessert was light and ambrosial. Even though we were so satisfied we could barely stir, Ronnie brought us a basket of warm miniature Madeleines. Every customer is served this. I managed to eat two and Ronnie packed up the rest for me to take. Now all I needed was someone to roll me home in a wheel barrow.
February
OK here goes the pre visit experience was perfect, food lovely and one waiter superb, other than that absolutely humiliating and flat out rude, I took my wife here for her Birthday and the food was perfect the service however was pretty poor apart from one waiter who was brilliant. I paid the bill and added a tip which I felt appropriate for the level of service we received, if it all went to the one waiter who was outstanding I would have gladly tipped $100, we essentially got chased to the street claiming we hadn't tipped enough. Here's a lesson café Boulud if you give great service I will tip above and beyond, your waiter essentially chased us and humiliated us to try and get a bigger tip. If they did their job to an acceptable level I would have gladly given 30% as a tip. I am happy to send pictures to back up our horrifically embarrassing visit to your restaurant you should be ashamed that this is how some of your staff behave.
Be the first to ReplyThey should relax their dress code.
I have been to three star restaurants in Europe in dress short and polo shirts. Thi place is not so great as to have such a restrictive dress code. Meal was ok.
Be the first to ReplyYes, elegant is the word.
If your international language knowledge is not at the PhD level, this is a French restaurant. Do not let the name fool you. This is only a "Cafe" because it is small. Otherwise, it is a restaurant with a quiet, elegant decor, an interesting menu, on my the wine list, and attentive wait staff.
We were there for a sad family event and had dinner in the private dining room. Everything was top class.
Excellent, as expected.
Excellent as one would expect. What can you say? Chef Boulud delivers again in this quiet, low key atmosphere. From the initial greeting to the final goodbye and
thank you, service was impeccable. Table service was top notch. The four themed menus was a novel concept and worked well. The scallops and the turbot could not have been cooked more perfectly. The coconut creme brûlée stole the show.
Elegant neighborhood restaurant
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Service and ambiance was as expected. There were 3 groupings of menus to select from.
The place is great for special occassions and for intimate gatherings.
