Located in the Arts District, it's hidden in a side alley and quite a beautiful restaurant inside. Bread (4/5) Bubs and Gma with acacia honey and butter. The baguette was crisp and chewy. With butter and honey it was simple and tastyClams (2/5) small overcooked clams with no real flavor because of some green topping that overwhelmed the dish but not in a good way. My clams had grit which was not palatable. Worst dish of the night Onion tartine (4/5) tasted like a deconstructed French onion soup. A large chewy slice of bread covered in gooey Comte and tuyere cheese then drizzled in a savory onion sauce. Yummy!Seasonal vegetables (3/5) I was confused by this dish. It looked like a bowl of deep fried onions but was crispy seasonal vegetables. Very small and not that great. Potatoes (3/5) soft mashed potatoes in a truffle sauce. It was just ok.Spinach (5/5) delicious! Maybe my favorite dish of the night next to the chicken. Flavorful and just perfect. Burger (4/5) duck burger with frites. Exactly what I was hoping for in a burger. Flavorful and juicy. This was a satisfying dish. Steak au poivre (3/5) it was tender and had decent flavor. I was hoping for more but overall a decent steak. Chicken (5/5) this dish was soft and tasty. It looked like a deboned chicken roulade. I don't exactly know what it was except it was very tasty. If I return, I'd get the chicken and spinach which were by far the best dishes of the night. Seasonal tart (3/5) it looked like a tart was flipped over so all you saw was the crust. Filled with fresh berries and a light crème patissier, it was a good sweet bite. Bread pudding (4/5) warm and comforting like a hug with gooey chocolate. I liked this dessert a lot and I don't normally like bread pudding. Overall, the food was very good. It was French but not pretentious or over the top. Nearly everything (except the clams) was tasty and well executed. Service was impeccable. Water was constantly filled and our plates and utensils were changed frequently. Probably one of the most attentive places service-wise that I've experienced in LA. Parking is pretty much valet ($17) unless you are lucky to find street parking. This area is congested with cars and very little street parking options. The valet was very friendly and fast so that made it a pleasant experience. Camphor is a place I'd definitely return to for a special dinner with friends. We all enjoyed our meal and had a lovely time.
