Really great find for us in Sacramento as we're still
Really great find for us in Sacramento as we're still finding what places we like. Canon has a great, lovely ambience, casual and modern atmosphere with a touch of fancy. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly as were the other staff that came by to bring out our dishes. The food was delicious, we especially liked the beet dish and our miso pudding for dessert. The main course we decided on was the pork crepe thing, which was good, but it felt like a mediocre deconstructed Vietnamese banh xeo had a baby with a Chinese chun bing. We should've known better. Nonetheless we will definitely be coming back to enjoy something else on their seasonal menu along with their delicious cocktails.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but sort of a hodgepodge of different cuisines.
International dishes. All beautifully executed. Family style and dishes don't come out at the same time. So many delicious dishes such as: crispy lamb pavรฉ, tater tots, chicken drumsticks, heirloom beets, bruss sprouts. I liked the idea of the oysters with the droppers of difference accoutrements but I would have loved to get the standard ones they typically come with. I always get whiskey sour when I eat at Canon and they make a perfect one!
Be the first to ReplyIt was very good.
Menu is different but good shareable dishes are great it was an enjoyable dinner
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for date nights or groups.
Fun family style meals, food was really good, a little for everyone (vegans, pescatarians, carnivores), and really good drinks as well. The Hamachi was really good, veggies all very good as well. Service was good, lots of bus people but the main waiting staff could have checked in more. Took a while to flag the waitress down to order another drink as several of us had empty glasses for a while (ok maybe 5-10 mins, not terrible for a busy Saturday night, but could be better for the price tag). Would come again
Be the first to ReplyWhat a wonderful high end and chill place in East
What a wonderful high end and chill place in East Sacramento that I would definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for a date night/ celebrate special occasion without burning a big hole in your pocket. To begin with, they accept reservations, they have beautiful seating for all group sizes and a very urban modern bar seating as well if you want to grab a quick drink post work.We celebrated our 2 year anniversary at the place and we're very happy with the overall service and food at this place. We were running late and the host was kind to accommodate that to start with. Our seating was beautiful and the overall ambiance was very urban and just a modern vibe with dim lights and candles. They have both inside and outside seating with a covered patio. They also have heaters which is great. Our server was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. We tried their tater tots, and the chai cocktail which both came out quick and extra points to split our cocktail into separate drink ware as we were sharing. This is just so thoughtful. For the entree we tried their chicken and beets salad ( which for too overpowering for my taste) but they they were accommodating to change the dish and my new entree came out quickly and totally killed it. The best part, the server was very kind to be able to find sometime for me ( a vegetarian) that suits my taste buds and that is exactly the service you would expect from a place like this. Full points on that. They also have a separate dessert menu and their menu actually changes every few days as well.Overall I was just so happy to choose this place for our anniversary dinner and would definitely recommend. Tip to business: it would be very thoughtful if you could offer a small something for special occasions at the end of the meal.Overall I totally get why this is a 4 time Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyAnother one of our favorite date night spots in the area!
Another one of our favorite date night spots in the area! Was a bit nervous about the outdoor seating in the winter, but they did a really good job with heating. I even ended up taking off my jacket. Not to mention the lighting in their heated patio is very romantic. The drink selection is also very impressive - not only is there a lot of variety, but each cocktail has a unique spin/touch to it. We loved the Cenote (big Mezcal fan), Chai again (such unique combination of flavors that go so well together), and the the Brooklying. As for food, we did a combination of small and large plates. Looks like they've updated some of the menu items but from memory we got a veggie tika masala small plate dish, chicken drumsticks (super recommend), and an ahi tuna large platter (no longer on menu but recommend if it comes back again). Canon does a great job of combining different flavors to create something unique (better than the original imo), and its service is exceptional. Definitely will come back again!
Be the first to ReplyHuge fan of this restaurant the first few times dining here.
Took my daughter and her husband last weekend for her 31st birthday. The food was tasty, but for some reason this time the portions seemed smaller and the price higher. I understand that everything is higher these days, but the portion size does not seem to be in line with the price. Our server was new-nice-but it was apparent. 3.5 stars.
Be the first to ReplyThought I'd reviewed this lovely place but Yelp is nudging.
Hubs and I had a marvelous dinner out on the patio in late October. Everything was delicious. What stuck with us was a toasted beet dish with green curry and more. It was sublime. So much so that if I lived nearby I would have done takeout for it the next week. Can't wait for our next visit.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a blast celebrating a birthday here.
Though it was during a stormy night, we sat on the patio without much trouble. It's a REALLY covered patio, and frankly it felt like an extension of the indoor area. Barely noticed we were outside with the heat and roof. Our server (Johnny) was amazing! Super attentive and informative. We ordered the tots, chicken lollipops, carrot dish, tikka masala potatoes, char siu white bass and pork belly. For dessert we got the malasadas, miso pudding, and pear sherbert. Cocktails - Brooklying and the Chai Again.Without diving into detail, I'd recommend everything! The most notable dishes for us were the white bass and the miso pudding. Incredible - couldn't have enough of it. The Brooklying is an aromatic take on the class old fashioned that I really appreciated. The Chai Again is a dangerous drink. They don't do anything spectacular for birthdays, just a heads up. But they did put a candle in the pudding and gave us the malasadas!
Be the first to ReplyNice ambiance, food was mediocre.
Over priced for what it is. Biscuits were similar to frozen biscuits from Costco (sorry). I believe that the dishes I ordered were lacking in something, probably salt. I won't go back to be honest.
Be the first to Reply5 stars all around! Amazing cocktails, service, and food.
The cornbread and Halibut Crudo were standouts. Everything was fresh and delicious. Looking forward to coming back!
Be the first to ReplyThe best restaurant in Sacramento, in my opinion.
High-quality food that is still approachable for everyone. The ability to have shared plates of different dishes and also get large entrees means everyone can get something that they like. Their cocktails are so delicious, and I also love taking advantage of the half-priced bottle of wine (chef's selection). Their outdoor patio is shaded and has misters and is enjoyable, even in the summer. You can't miss this place!
Be the first to ReplyThis was a perfect spring date night from start to finish.
We arrived on one of Sacramento's early spring nights where the cold is giving way to warmer temps without being hot... just what I like!We were greeted warmly and led out to our reserved table on the classy patio. Our server was a really quirky, unique dude, but we enjoyed his service and he knew his stuff. His menu knowledge, timing, suggestions... all outstanding!Ok I'll do my best, but the pics matter... - The pickles. OMG. Cauliflower, pickles, green beans, served on ice. Each with a distinct and perfect brine. SO GOOD.- Kale & Fennel Salad. Ok, like nothing I've ever had. The kale was brined but not wilty. The fennel was amazing, the onion jam ridiculous. Awesome.- I got the Stuffed Naan, but had it served with the Lamb Pave which was so delectable that my mouth is watering rn.- The NY Strip was amazing and grilled to perfection- Dessert was a blueberry panna cotta and hubby had a sorbet but I was many cocktails into the night and kinda forgot what it was and didn't get a snap of the menu either - sorry! This was a well-deserved five star night and we are looking forward to returning to Canon!

Came for the creative dishes but the finer points were glossed over. The fried potato tots didn't mesh with the mole sauce. The mole sauce tasted like Chinese five-spice which hindered rather than helped the finely grated potatoes. Also, micro cilantro is not the end-all be-all garnish and I'll be elated when this current fad ends. Conversely, the butter with crushed chicken skin was an excellent and thoughtful addition to the airy corn bread. Confusingly, these two "quick bites" were just as large as the "small plates".The lamb pave platter had a lamb confit that was molded into a brick and then pan fried. Like a mash-up of rillettes and carnitas, the concept is simple but uniquely done with lamb. I wish I was eating more of it right now. Obviously fatty and heavy, the acidity of a green tomato chutney helped balance the dish while the cucumber was also meant to help but there were few fragments to contribute. Despite how wonderful the lamb meat was, improvements were needed. With just a smear of harissa, more sauce would help add cohesion to the dish. The accompanying flatbread was mostly good but was served with burnt pieces that were black and should have never left the kitchen or have been caught by the server. The "summer truffle tamale" used rice as the masa but wasn't sticky enough to bind the corn together - especially when soaked in the chile broth. The broth was a huge contributor that gave the dish flavor but the watery broth caused the tamale to break apart. A thicker chile sauce applied to the top of the tamale would be better. I'm not sure why the menu said "summer truffle" because I couldn't taste any truffle. Perhaps the huitlacoche corn smut was meant to be a clever play on truffles. Regardless, the dish was missing the earthy aspect of truffle or corn mold. Although in the "small plates" section, the tamale was a vegetable side dish for the lamb at a pricey $21.For drinks, the rum-based "Red Cap" with foamy egg whites was a hit but I'm ambivalent about the "Flip Flop" where I liked the bourbon and chopped limes but it was too bitter due to the Bruto Americano vermouth. The glass of Sheldon graciano was the worst wine I've drank since visiting Mariposa with $5 glasses from Lodi. Even worse, the glass of wine was the dregs from the bottom of the bottle and left a spoonful of bitter sediment. Just because some wines aren't filtered, it doesn't mean I want something similar to coffee grounds in my wine. The dining experience was diminished by overlooking the details that should accompany upscale cooking. I was brought to a table with food crumbs on the chair, given a sticky fork, and had a waiter that smelled like cigarettes (likely after taking a break). Additionally, the 2-course meal took a sluggish two hours to complete. The healthcare surcharge buried in the fine print is a pricing shenanigan. Simply increase the menu prices. Does the $57 lamb platter become unsellable at $59? No.Street parking was hard to find on a Saturday evening.

What a wonderful spot to celebrate a birthday! The wait staff was super attentive and the chef was very mindful about tricky food allergies, and provided excellent substitutes. I love the display of local artist Joha Harrison, and the bar serves excellent handcrafted cocktails too!
Be the first to ReplyI honestly cannot see why some have chosen to give this
I honestly cannot see why some have chosen to give this restaurant a bad review. First, one should not come here if they believe this will be like a chain restaurant with huge proportions. I saw quite a few complaints about portion size. We had a party of 6 and shared plates and left very full. The atmosphere was very chic and hip. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant. She explained how things worked and gave some recommendations. Yes..you have to wait for your food and drink because like everywhere else there is a staff shortage and the place is busy. Relax, take in what is around you, visit who you arrive with, and enjoy your beverage. The food was amazing. Each dish had a delightful flavor. We started with the quick bites pickles (olives, tomatoes, and strawberries) , cornbread, and tots. The pickles had such great flavor not over powering, the cornbread was moist and with a tomato/corn flavor and the tots in mole were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside with the perfect amount of mole. Next was the small plates, heirloom tomatoes, truffle tamale, and beans. All fantastic and the kimchi with the beans you must try. Main course was fried fish and New York Strip. The fish was fresh and crispy. The steak was cooked to perfection and just melted in your mouth. All of this was enough for 6 people who left stuffed and happy. My only small gripe was the drinks were mediocre. If you have not been here I highly recommend going and trying it yourself.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a great place to go to celebrate an occasion.
One of the finer dining experiences in town. The cocktails are top notch. Complex flavors and very well balanced. Plenty of parking on the street but valet is also available. The food is farm to table with incredible flavor. The tots was our favorite appetizer. I had the whole fried fish for my main and it was juicy and came off the bone. I was tempted to get another!Great service. Exceptional experience.

Just okay, service was good but food was lessmediocre, especially for the price. Pretty setting but parking sucks. Not dying to go back.

This review is mainly based on the service I received, our server was mostly non existent and had the personality of a plank of wood. For most of our service we were left pretty starving without being checked on while she talked in the corner. This is mainly due to the fact that our server didn't put our order in. Then she proceeded to lie to us and say that orders are made "fresh" and the kitchen is busy. The other server (who was so much more helpful and lively) told us what we ordered took 10 mins to make tops, meanwhile the couple sitting next to us who got there way after us got all of their starters first. Making food "fresh" is a basic cooking standard it's not an excuse to take forever, next time just own up to your mistake and apologize. Don't lie to us we've worked in the industry before. We dined for 2 hours only to receive starters and drinks.Me and my date were so fed up we didn't make it to the main courses and left early. When we told our server this she said "fantastic", which meant she didn't care at all for the lousy service she provided. By the way one of the oysters had tons of grit, this should never happen unless you don't know how to shuck an oyster properly. The ash roasted carrots were pretty tasty, but i can't help but feel the price point is very high for 6 roasted root vegetables. Wish I could have made it to the main course to give this restaurant a fair judgement based on food, but the bad service did not allow us to make it there.

Excellent quality, delicious seasonal menu, top rate service. Highlyrecommend the kale and fennel salad, bok choi, fish and honey pot dessert!
Be the first to ReplyNice atmosphere with the patio area and inside, everything
Nice atmosphere with the patio area and inside, everything is also organic they grow a lot of their own produce. Food is great, loved the asparagus and the rolls.
Be the first to ReplyWe had dinner here last night.
It took forever to get water and drinks. Multiple other parties got things before us, despite entering after us.We ordered too much food. It would have been nice if the server had better explained how things worked when we asked. We were told platters are larger than plates. ย I know that a platter is bigger than a plate; I need to know how many I should order for my party. When another server came to bring some of the food we ordered too much of, it was the first smile we'd seen all evening. The drinks and food were good. Delicious. Novel tastes that blended well.
Be the first to ReplyTaken here for my birthday.
The host was most personable. And from there the culture of all the staff was sub standard. Said hello to a passing waiter w eye contact, dismissive or disdain wasn't sure. Plates w food remaining removed without asking. ย Friend who brought me asked about cake and was rudely spoken to. Told we don't serve cake until the table is clear. Undoubtedly the worst service I ever encountered. ย Sad this experience was not isolated to a person having a bad evening. Go back to the basics and remember people like spending their money where they feel like they are treated with basic manners! Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!

If I could give this place 10, I would!!! I had the pleasure of hosting an intimate graduation dinner Sep2021 at this beautiful restaurant and it was such a success. I worked closely with the event coordinator, Jessie Rooker. I don't have enough words to express how easy and flexible she was to work with....from playing, coordinating, and even styling the most beautiful dinner party in their courtyard. The food/drinks were delicious and service was 10/10!!! Jessie made the entire process so easy on me and I was able to enjoy the night with my family and friends. Great communication, very accommodating and overall just an amazing soul. I highly highly recommend this restaurant if you are planning to host a small event. The courtyard is absolutely beautiful, especially @ night. I would like to give a huge shout out to Jessie and the team for such a beautiful and memorable night
