I'd been craving arepas and this place really hit the spot.
It's pretty casual, there's a bar area in the front, ample seating in the main section, and colorful decor all over. We ordered the tequeños to start, which were quite yummy. I ordered the Nuestra Reina arepa and added fried sweet plantains to it. The arepas might look small but they're actually quite filling. I also had the Arnold-Hibiscus-Palmer, which was pretty refreshing. Service was attentive and friendly. We got there early in the evening, so it was pretty quiet then, but it was busy by the time we left. This is a good place to hang out with friends.

It's closing anyway but the arepas are as flavorful as I would expect them to be but the ambiance and energy there is enough for me to want to return and have drinks at the bar

Been coming here for YEARS and they keep getting better! Staff is awesome and friendly. Came for a late dinner around 830, place was busy, outside was packed but it was way too hot to eat out there. To start we ordered rum & passion fruit drinks - delicious, not too strong but you still get to enjoy the drink. We ordered the croquetas which are deep fried yuca balls stuffed with (I don't remember) but it was absolutely delicious and not at all greasy! For dinner I ordered La surena (it's gluten free as are most of their arepas) as you can see in the pic it is super stuffed and it also comes with chorizo / AMAZING! My man ordered the de Pabellon (shredded beef with cotija cheese, black beans & added avocado) (this was always my go to but due to recent health issues I couldn't enjoy) he very much enjoyed it especially with the sauce they give you! Restrooms gender neutral, music is Latin American and trendy. Pretty spacious for what looks like a small place on the outside - after all those are the best places to try
Be the first to ReplyI heard they might be closing later this week.
Uh. Another absolute delight of a restaurant slipping through your fingers. Although, they're still going to be open in the Rockaways. I've been here a couple of times and can't emphasize how great they are and that you should absolutely come in before the end of the week. The cocktails are great, food, atmosphere. They have a little semi outdoor hut area in the back that's cozy. Apps: The tequenos (cheese sticks) I could probably just eat basket after basket of and with all of their delicious secret sauces. The Tostones with cotija cheese are pretty great as well. Again, the sauce - on everything. Arepas I've tried are the De Pabellon (Shredded beef, black beans, cotija cheese, sweet plantains). The sweet plantains are what sold me. The Hot Queen is great if you want a little kick but something creamy as well: Pulled chicken, peppers, onions, scallions, mayo, and avocado. I feel like I've tried more at another outing but those were definitely the two most memorable. And the ChEESE STICKS. Slobers like Homer. Their rotating cocktail list is also not something to sleep on. They also have lunch specials and a decent happy hour with marked down drinks.

I come to New York once a year and Caracas arepas bar is a must have on every trip. I salivate at times for the La mulata and their sauce is the perfect touch. Don't forget to ask for the extra spicy one if you can handle the extra kick. The guacamole is also fabulous here!
Be the first to ReplyWOW WOW WOW! Very unexpected to find this gem.
Service was incredible! We had the guacamole with homemade plantain chips and the plantain arepa. You can tell this food is made with love!

Came here on a weekend for lunch, outdoor seating was full, indoor seating was pretty full too. Got a table, ordered a de pabellón (shredded beef, black beans, cheese, plantains) arepa. Didn't take long for it to come out, it was really tasty! Really liked the soft plantains in it, beef was flavorful. I liked the sauce that was provided on the tables as well. Service was a bit lacking, food was good though.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my first time having Arepas.
Back home where I am from, Vancouver BC, authentic Venezuelan can't be found. We ordered the following to share:- Oblea- Tostones Mochimeros- Tajadas (compliment of the restaurant)I ordered the playa deluxe arepa and my friend got the De Pabellon arepa. My playa deluxe arepa was good and ingredients were fresh. My friend loved hers as well. The Tostones Mochimeros and Tajadas were my favorites. They were super delicious. I can just order many orders of the Tostones Mochimeros or Tajadas. The Oblea dessert reminded me of the Netherland thin cream waffle. It was delicious. Service was great here. I loved the atmosphere. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

This place never ever disappoints! Food, music just all of it is amazing. Portions are very filling given it is mostly tapas and single serving. The maduro with cheese is a must have.
Be the first to ReplyWow! I was quite pleased with this meal.
I shared the chips and guac with one other, and their guac is so flavorful. The chips were cool too - seemed like taro and plantain chips. This app filled us up - I almost considered saying I didn't need my arepa. We had a bit of a service hiccup - we waited so long for our arepas to come out. I do believe they forgot about our order. Staff was friendly and apologized about it though.Arepas were delicious. I got La Surena and the flavor combination was delicious. If you enjoy sauce, ask for a side of the herb mayo if your arepa doesn't come with. It's pretty good.I'd come back, despite the service hiccup. Space is cute and cozy, and they play great salsa music. Sadly, no dancing though!

We walked in for bake at home tequeños and we're very excited that they said they sold them! We got 12 for $20 which is expensive but we hoped they would be good - ultimately these weren't pre-baked like they had told us so are very hard to cook at home. Disappointed with the experience!

My wife and I have been here many times and always enjoyed it (which avoided a one-star review) but tonight the waiter commented on our order really rudely...then doubled down later. The first time--when we ordered--he said something like "that's a lot, you're hungry!" Even though it was the same as what we usually order. We sorta laughed it off. But when he brought the check, he said " wow, most people... Don't order that much" which seemed like really doubling down on the commentary.
Be the first to ReplyVery cozy and down to earth spot.
Our server was friendly and the food was delicious.

THIS place is a dream! While living in NYC, I discovered this gem.I no longer live in NYC and find myself constantly craving these arepas! Food 10/10The mulata arepa is a perfect blend of black beans, plantains, cheese, avocado and salsa. It's a dreamy blend. Every bite is perfection. One arepa is pretty filling, especially if you do a starter. The plantain chips and salsa are the perfect way to get the meal started. Can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyWow Caracas really changed from the tiny hole in wall joint
Wow Caracas really changed from the tiny hole in wall joint in 2007 to now a full blown restaurant with a bar. The bartender was extremely sweet and let me sit alone to have a meal at the bar with all the sauces I wanted. I ordered two arepas and could only eat one (big portion!) I'm so glad they didn't change the quality of their food.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great atmosphere.
The plantains were great. We ate here in December and sat in the covered area in the back. It was a great atmosphere and they gave us cool blankets to keep warm. Highly recommend. Good for a group
Be the first to ReplyThe arepas are good.
Nice place for a date. The dessert is delicious. They don't have to much option of sauces as other arepa's spots.

Rudest employee, it seems that management is absent for something like this to happen without anyone noticing. I was pending to write this review since a few months back, when my husband and I had the worst experience with one of their employees: when we arrived, this employee was in the entrance and my husband greeted him by saying "hello my friend, do you have a table for two?" the guy looked at him and his answer was: "are we friends?", my husband politely responded: "no, like many people, I always greet others by saying my friend...." And the guy said "Oh, OK, because I don't remember ever seeing you before and I always remember my fiends". If it was only that, it would have been unpleasant but I probably wouldn't have taken the time to write this review. It got worse, we went to a table and fortunately another waiter took care of us, but while we were waiting for our food, we heard the initial guy talking to his colleagues in the kitchen, mocking us, he did not think we speak fluent Spanish and he started talking to them in Spanish and laughing at the story, telling them what he responded and pretending to be such a cool guy because he responded in the way he did.... Clearly there is lack of management, how can the business leave such a group of employees with horrible manners, taking care of the business and mistreating customers. NEVER EVER COMING BACK! Food is OK but pricey for this terrible service, nothing you can't find somewhere else....

Went with the lunch deal for mushroom soup, la mulata arepa (grilled quest blanco, black beans, sautéed peppers) and Venezuelan beer. Good soup, phenomenal arepa with a surprising and delicious spicy kick. Fun, arty decor, good music, and friendly staff. Great place!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolute gem of a place.
My husband has been going for years and even though many years have passed, the quality and care into the food have never changed. We also met Jesus who is the man behind the bar and he elevated our dining experience with friendly service, professionalism and true care for the restaurant. Very lucky to meet him and eat here over and over again.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a pretty consistent place.
I've been here plenty of times. Had the arepa pabellon, which was good, the mojito...not so much, took a few sips and settled for a parcha juice. I was disappointed there wasn't any desserts available this particular day. I was going to settle for a cappuccino without the dessert, but was informed the machine was broken (womp!) FYI, proof of covid vaccine is needed to dine inside.
