Lovely Lunch at the Caviar House St James
Previously, about a year ago, I had dined at The Caviar House & Prunier on St James Street, and Piccadilly, but solo. On this visit, my wife I were joined by the person, who had introduced us both to The Caviar House, almost 2 decades before, plus one of my wife’s UK board members, for lunch.
We were seated at the back 4-top, in the little dining area, and were able to take in the Holiday decorations all over the restaurant/store. Also, though it might have been just to make room for those decorations, things looked like they had changed, but maybe it felt that way, as I had dined at the counter, overlooking the food prep area, and the windows, looking out onto Piccadilly St.
We started with the Bread Selection w/ Salmon Mousse for the table, and a lovely Domaine Bzikot Père et Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru ‘16. That did not last this table long, so we added the Domaine Patrick Miolane Chassagne-Montrachet La Canière ‘16. Farid, the manager, happened to have a bottle of the ‘14, and we got to taste that as well.
I got talked into trying a new wine: the Chateau Belle-Vue La Renaissance from Bhamdoun-Mount Lebanon ‘11 - very nice, and paired as well with the Salmon. The Caviar House has a short wine list, but always an interesting one, but there is a nice retail selection of wines - just behind our table, in several coolers.
The rest of the table went with the Tsarina - Blini-topped w/ crème fraiche and served w/ Balik smoked Salmon + 10 oz of Prunier Caviar - everyone got very quiet, until they were finished.
I went with the Scottish Smoked Salmon, which was great, so I was rather quiet, while eating too.
Oh, and those breads? Fantastic, as was the Salmon Mousse, plus the butters and the olive oil, which came with it.
Service was excellent, as was the food, and the wines. The preparation is not the quickest, but the slicing of the Salmon, resembles a great sushi chef - artwork takes a few minutes.
A great lunch, and we will definitely be back. As a side note, we stopped into the restaurant in T2 at LHR, before our flight home.
