The ambiance was very nice and the service was quick, honestly too quick. If felt like they were trying to get us in and out as fast as possible. As for the food, I was very disappointed. Had seen many good reviews about this place and we didn't end up enjoying anything we tried! The "Cacio e Pepe" was plain pasta with a pool of oil on the bottom, I was so confused. My brother ordered the gnocchi and had a super weird, bitter taste. My dads chicken was greasy and none of the flavors worked well together. We also tried the focaccia as an appetizer and it was cold and hard. No one finished their food. I was super disappointed with Charlie Bird
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance is ok but the food is average and service is awful.
been there three times and all three times I was seated 30-45 minutes after my reservation time, then they'd take forever to bring the food out, and never offered a free drink or discount. Suffice to say I'll never be returning here

The wine list here was beyond anything I could have imagined. Of course, the I find out there sommelier is apparently one of the best... No rubbing anyone's noses in it, just facts. Like Tiger Woods being a great golfer or Jordan knowing a thing or two about basketball. It was on the quieter side for very early on a Saturday but that suited us just fine. Food was top notch as well. But I'd recommend a the Italian reds. Enjoy!

Does Charlie Bird need more praise? Probably not, but I'll do it anyway. Chef David Nathans is rocking it here. I've yet to have a dish that disappoints.

The food was delicious and the service was attentive and professional. Letting go of my preconceived notion of the incongruence of rap and Itailan food was delightful.
Be the first to ReplyLet's just say I have been here once.
Food was ok and it was when it first opened. Nothing socially at all. I fact upon reflection sort of annoying from the music to the decor. Food was expensive and felt like it was from an Air Italia business class meal. Which sucks by the way. But since finding out it is owned by a bunch of HF / Goldman people I would think I they had better taste. But again since one is supposedly David Solomon guy can't run a bank and sucks as a DJ so go figure. I have been walking by the restaurant for 8 years and my daughter has noticed there is vomit outside of it on an almost daily basis. Clearly not during Covid. So whatever the heck they are serving must be rancid. Because the stench and vomit outside every morning is disgusting. Avoid at all costs.

Amazing food!! Our server Tara was phenomenal and attentive to our table. Will be coming back with the family!

While the service was pleasant, the meal itself was underwhelming. The gnocchi needed more of a zip; amping up the ricotta as well as perhaps adding parmesan or romano cheese with a dash of black pepper would make this dish flavorful. My friend had the pasta cacio e pepe which he found to be bland. The dessert, a scoop of blueberry ice cream paired with a lava cake, while delicious, is an American invention & a disappointing dessert menu offering at what is an Italian restaurant.

They served me raw pork chop on Friday and did nothing to make it right besides take it off the check. Every piece was like this. Pretty outrageous.

Had the best experience at Charlie Bird! Started off with the focaccia and a delicious white wine that was recommended to us by the sommelier. He was very educated and knew all about their wine selection. Then we ordered the cacio e Pepe and tagliatelle. Both phenomenal meals, pasta cooked to perfection! Alex F. Was a phenomenal server; very attentive and so sweet. Will be recommending to friends!

Really good food!! Definitely get the pork and pasta - you won't regret it!! The service was nice overall but felt a bit rushed when the first thing out of their mouth was we should order our entree asap so we can get it soon - even though we didn't it came out in great time!

We sat at the bar (tables were all reserved) and Hector was our waiter/mixologist. He made awesome margaritas for us and gave great advice on the menu. We order the foccacia bread, roasted farm chicken and roasted scallops. Excellent choices, fresh and very well prepared. We had the chocolate budino (came with rice krispies!) and it was a fine way to cap off the meal. Hector made our visit fun and we'll be sure to come back. Thank you!

Absolutely incredible food and wine! I came for a long dinner and we were able to try delicious red wine, espresso martinis, and even a shot of vermouth on the house! As for food, the Long Island fluke was unique as it was delicious. The bone marrow was to die for! So flavorful and savory. I had a truffle pasta special tossed in an olive oil sauce--truly amazing. Everything was so well presented and flavored. Service was top notch and the waitstaff really know their wines! Prices are on the higher side but you're paying for the quality. I sat outside under the tent and was warm enough on the January night I went, and the music wasn't loud outside at all. Perfect spot to take family or to impress a date!

After reading some negative reviews I was having second thoughts about dining here. I'm so glad I did. The food, service and atmosphere was wonderful. The standout dish was the heirloom beets. I would go back just to have those.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional food, especially the farro salad.
Good service and ambiance as well. One complaint I'd have is that we sat at the partial booth round table right on when you walk in and the seats were oddly shallow in depth making for uncomfortable seating.
Be the first to ReplyI thought the food was really good here.
The vibe was cool. Hard to get in but we sat by the bar and the bartenders were all really cool and helpful. The food was fairly priced and the dessert was really good too. The wine and drinks were really tasty as well. Would come back for sure

"Continental in the Village"In terms of food, this restaurant rises above a lot of average places in the Village. What's to cheer- solid dishes that all come out of the kitchen with high quality - great array of apps and starters, including a great hamachi crudo.- good service What's to jeer- the wine list is super over priced and it's hard to find much under $80 a bottle- lots of west side pretentions- pricey - not a lot of bigger course options Not a destination place, but if you are in the hood it is a worth a try.

They say that their plates are designed to share, but honestly the portions are small, and you would need 3 pastas and some small plates or a large plate to fill up 3 people. The menu is very small, and changes from time to timeEach of the pastas will come with some chili oil and it is such a good combination, but I didn't feel that the pasta itself was anything special. I would come back only for the chili oil combo with the pastaThe Foccocia bread is great, and good to snack on while you wait since it takes a bit of time for the pasta/mains to come out

For a 6:45 reservation (I arrived 6:44pm), we didn't receive our entrees until 9:40 (I took photos of my watch)... and at that point we decided to take our food to go and request the check, for fear of a future delay. The portions for the pasta dishes were surprisingly small compared to the plate sizes, and the pasta came out lukewarm and short of al dente (edit: I almost forgot that my Cavatelli came out with a bug crawling in it, but after 1.5 hours I just squished it and carried on).The Hangar steak was served medium rare (which is fine, but probably not for others) without asking for how I wanted it cooked, and rather than the fingerling potatoes as advertised, I was served a plate with fries without an explanation an hour later for the shortage of potatoes. If I knew I would receive another platter of fries, I would have cancelled the dish or cancelled the fries we had finished over an hour prior. They also forgot about the Jimmy Nadello peppers we ordered for the table as an appetizer (table of 2), which arrived at 9:40 as well.Embarrassing service, slow and inadequate for all the tables seated nearby and the number of staff versus leftover patrons past 9pm. No updates from the servers on the wait from the kitchen, barely any attention to refilling of water or other needs. Most disappointing, the food was mediocre. More was expected after receiving quality selection on JetBlue Mint flights.I didn't mind the music or vibe (I enjoy Nas, Rick Ross, Lauryn Hill), but I can believe previous reviews that complain about the volume and genres. It was quite loud in the restroom, we didn't have a problem as we were sitting outside on the patio. I can agree with other review that the subway noises and air blowing up could be disturbing for those not from New York City.I will be uploading photos.
Be the first to ReplySat down at the most beautiful table with 2 friends.
We waited forever for our drinks. Was so excited as I have heard this place mentioned in so many romance novels! We ordered French fries and they said they ran out? Not too sure how that happens but anyways... we then ordered the fried chicken appetizer. Each piece was pink & raw inside. Almost inedible & extremely rubbery. Then, we split the frittata & cacio e Pepe. The frittata was flavorless and flat. Overall, extremely underwhelming and very unsatisfying.
Be the first to ReplyI had high hopes for this place.
Unfortunately I was not able to eat more than a few bites of the pasta as it just didn't taste good. Service was on point.

Charlie Bird was nice! I was on a date and we split a bottle of wine (wine list is enormous so make sure you speak with the somm so you don't overlook any potential pleasant bottles), focaccia, and asparagus. My date wanted a whole trout to himself so I ordered a single dish to myself as well. I asked for recommendation between branzino and cacio e pepe and was encouraged by our waiter to get branzino. The service was high quality but slow. So we were waiting quite a long time to speak with the somm, and even to get our food! Between ordering, getting our bread and asparagus, and then getting the fish, we were waiting around for everything! The bread and veggies were very tasty... the bread was especially excellent for focaccia. However, I was disappointed with my fish. It was quite dry and I regretted not getting the pasta instead.
Be the first to ReplyA full meal at Charlie Birds.
. I was very happy with all of my dinner choices! Loved the burrata and squash combo, tartar and steak! Portions were very small/ European sized; I definitely could have ordered more as we shared all these plates. Good vibes but extremely loud music inside.
Be the first to ReplyA gem of a spot for lunch.
I was looking for a city lunch spot and this restaurant has been on my "must try" list for quite a while. What a great spot. Conveniently located and spacious with an good sized outdoor space. The food was fantastic: starting off with wellfleet oysters (yummy). It was followed by Rigatoni cacio e pepe and Spaghetti alla carbona. (yummy yummy). The pastas were both perfectly al dente and both shined. The next was the the fish of day perfectly roasted and nicely garnished with endive. Tasty and perfectly cooked. The meal was capped off by a nice chocolate lava cake (shh I'm supposed to be on a diet) with olive oil ice cream.I know it may be sacrilegious in some circles, but it was heaven!!
Be the first to ReplyVery good Italian place.
Dishes are smaller portions served family style so order a bottle of wine and a variety of dishes to share. The raw oysters were fantastic albeit a little pricey. Very fresh and a good size. The focaccia bread was phenomenal. Needs a larger portion. Roasted cauliflower was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Both pasta dishes were quite good. The pasta was fresh and cooked just right. The Spaghetti Cacio E Pepe was off the charts good. Very delicious and my personal favorite. The Branzino was very tasty and crispy. The chocolate cake dessert was delicious. Oh my was this good. The picture can't do it justice. Service was prompt and friendly.
