Until my wife and I walked through the archway of the iconic Cinderella Castle at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, saw the sign and walked up the spiral staircase--we have a thing against elevators--we had no clue that the 189-foot-tall landmark housed a restaurant. Cinderella's Royal Table is, as you might expect, a Cinderella-themed eatery set in a medieval-styled room akin to a castle's banquet hall with majestic stained-glass windows and soaring stone archways. Think Errol Flynn in the film "The Adventures of Robin Hood." Open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, it offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, a pre fixe meal for adults and a separate menu for kids. For an appetizer, we had chilled jumbo shrimp with avocado mousse, crispy peppers and corn puree and a Castle salad with romaine lettuce, brussels sprouts, goat cheese, spring vegetables and green goddess dressing. For an entree, my wife chose grilled chicken with a marinated thigh, tangled pasta and pine nut pesto. I opted for grilled tenderloin of beef with potato puree, roasted vegetables and house-made steak sauce. Dessert was a genuine treat. We shared a portion of coffee-infused coconut custard with passion fruit gelee and crumbled chocolate/espresso beans and dark chocolate mousse with a caramel and crunchy praline center served with chocolate sauce and hazelnut gelato. Cinderella never had it so good.
