Didn't Meet Expectations
I had the sablefish. The presentation was awful. It looked like something that could be served at a hospital. Very little thought seemed to be put into the presentation, other than the weird foam on top of the fish. Taste was bland. My friend had the halibut. Taste was also bland. Drinks and dessert were fine. Nothing special. Overall, quite disappointing for the price of the meal.
Be the first to ReplyWow! The best Italian meal ever!
While we were in Vancouver last June and staying in Yaletown, we managed to snag a reservation on the patio. We ended up having one of the best Italian meals in our lives. As we did not want to drink a full bottle, the waiter suggested a half-litre of Il Fauno, a Tuscan wine combining all the red Bordeaux grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot): an excellent choice. For starters I had the prawns which were excellent, but my spouse had an absolutely mind-blowing chestnut and porcini soup. It apparently won some well-deserved awards. We had to ask the chef how he made it, thinking there might be a use for the chestnut flour I have at home, but he uses fresh roasted purรฉed whole chestnuts. For the main course, I had the chefโs motherโs lasagne, which was the best southern Italian style lasagne Iโve ever had. Almost as good as my Modenese grandmotherโs green lasagne al forno (I canโt say just as good as my nonnaโs for fear of her turning in her grave). My spouse again made an even better choice--the piรจce de rรฉsistance chef's special: incredibly delicate melt in your mouth ravioli filled with burrata among other things. People say I make great home-made pasta, but I have to say Pino Posteraroโs pasta is a number of levels better than mine. The chef stopped at our table to chat in Italian and was happy to hear that my spouse said that the ravioli were โdelicatiโ, which is what he said he was aiming for. (โDelicatoโ is one of the highest compliments one can give to Italian food.) For dessert, I needed to give homage to my Italian-Canadian (or is it Italo-quรฉbรฉcois) heritage and had the maple syrup crรจme-brรปlรฉe with cantucci (aka biscotti in English) while my spouse had the wonderful tiramisรน. To cap it all off, Pino offered us complimentary cannoli, which were just as good if not better than any I have ever had, including in Sicilian restaurants. Not only is Pino a great chef, but he is also a very simpatico person despite owning one of the top 50 Italian restaurants outside the boot. Although his restaurant is mentioned in the Michelin guide, the French tire gurus did not deign to give Cioppino undoubtedly deserved stars. This I can only ascribe to French resentment and refusal to acknowledge that our Italian food now surpasses the French.

We were recommended to come here for lunch by the concierge of our hotel. We were delighted to find that our charming waitress Holly was like us Northern Irish . We had an excellent lunch and tried a very acceptable dessert wine afterwards. Very friendly atmosphere and efficient service not forgetting the singer and her guitar. Emma and John Parker

We had an unreal time dining here at Cioppino's. Location is awesome, right in Yaletown. The service was amazing, and the food was unreal. We had a risotto and a gnocchi and they were both so delicious. We've wanted to try this place for a while now and we're so glad we finally did. We will definitely be back again.
Be the first to ReplyBest Restaurant for a Special Occasion
I booked one of the private rooms for a small dinner with family and friends to celebrate my wife's milestone birthday. the entire evening was absolutely perfect - great service (thanks Pino, Stewart and the entire team!), food that was incredible (can see why Chef Pino just won international rewards), and an intimite exquisite room (Mamma Paola wine room). Chef is an incredible host, and came by multiple times to make sure we were enjoying the meal - and even made a special Cacio e Pepe dish for our one guest with food allergies. If you are wanting a place to celebrate a special milestone - i HIGHLY recommend Cioppino's and booking one of their private rooms. will be back again for sure!
Be the first to Replywonderful choice
The food was excellent. Cioppino's is unquestionably a wonderful choice if you want to treat yourself. Great meal all around, with the rack of lamb being a standout entrรฉe. Be mindful that the portions tend to be larger than those at fine dining establishments.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food, great service and relaxed atmosphere
We had just spent two weeks touring round British Columbia, and had a couple of nights in Vancouver before flying home to London. An old friend recommended Cioppinoโs, and I am glad we made it our final night destination. The welcome was warm, the menu traditional but with some interesting twists, and the wine was fantastic. We ate extremely well - sublime and light stuffed zucchini flowers, the most tender and sweet veal chop followed by cannoli for me. But the standout dish was the duck lasagna my son had. We left happy, full and with yet another fond memory of our time in Canada. Grazie, Pino!
Be the first to ReplyGood but a bit disappointing.
The food was good, the service was good. What disappointed us was that the entree, Cioppino was no bigger that the appetizer and not much fish. It was not a good value for the price.
Be the first to ReplyMuch anticipated birthday dinner with friends
My best friend called me a month ahead of our anticipated dinner engagement and invited me and my husband to dinner on March 12. That day she called me to say she called the restaurant to reconfirm her reservation and they did not have record of it. They said people usually book through Open Table. So we found a place to eat that night at the last minute and rebooked for April 2. I would think she should have gotten comped something for losing her reservation on her birthday but nothing. The atmosphere was beautiful and the service was outstanding. The food was very disappointing. The octopus appetizer was mostly tomato sauce and beans (couldn't see any octopus). My lasagne on the fresh sheet could easily have been a Swanson frozen dinner lasagne. My friend 's cioppino had no flavour and hardly any seafood. Her husband had a nice tenderloin steak cooked perfectly but hardly a vegetable with it. My husband had seafood linguine and it was very good. Anyways, never going back! Sad
Be the first to ReplyLovely dinner
We had dinner on their patio. It has been a long since I was here last and we had wonderful food such as: Octopus, Buffalo caprese, porchuni soup, lobster bisque, pappardelle, porterhouse, spaghetti vongole, mixed seafood, lemon tart, and ice cream. Very good service and wide wine selection.
Be the first to ReplyThe Scallops!
After a 3 years, we finally made it out to Cioppinoโs. This is a difficult restaurant to book it seemed like it alway booked solid. Our sever Richard was very helpful with his preferences. He was very reassuring and energetic when we ordered. Started with the octopus paired with the Burrowing Owl Chardonnay. The octopus was so tender, but not mushy, or chewy, the wine amplified the incredible taste and texture. For the main course I had the rack of lamb medium rare with the Burrowing Owl merlot. This was incredible I was so happy with till I tried the Atlantic lobster, prawn and scallops (what my wife ordered). The scallops was the highlight of the whole meal. Until the desert! The crispiness, sweetness, creaminess of the cannoli was the best finish. The food and service were superb, they let us use a gift certificate that had expiry date of 3 years ago. We will be returning.

We went to Cioppino's to celebrate my wife's birthday! We were greeted warmly at the door & taken to our table...a lovely setting by the window. The decor is beautiful giving a romantic atmospere & the food was delicious. Our server Alanna was very attentive & friendly. After we finished our main course, we had the Creme Brule dessert. Alanna also brought a special birthday Chocolate dessert for us to share! Pino the owner came to introduce himself & ask how we liked our dinner. This was definitely a wonderful dining experience! We would absolutely recommend this restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyI like it
I came here to celebrate my birthday. I've ordered the lobster pasta before, so I got that again and it was just as good as I remember it. For appies we ordered the octopus, and the prawns. Both were good, very tender octopus and flavorful. For dessert I tried the chocolate souffle which was delicious, and the creme anglaise it came with was so good. They also very nicely presented me with a complimentary small panna cotta - which i like - with a happy birthday message. Very nice.
I have come here a few times over the years, and I always enjoy it. The food is always good, the service is friendly and the vibe is elegant with the low lighting and the wine shelves.
Pricey Based Upon Reputation
Good food but very pricey. Well presented and service was excellent. Very cozy and great spot for a romantic night
Be the first to ReplyTHIS THE OVER PRICED RESTAURANT IN VANCOUVER
If you want to go to a place where, when you turn your back to be subject of backbiting, the bold brother of the chef do specialize in this field, very pretentious and and empty concept. a place to be avoided, unless you are a masochist person, who is in search of trouble.
Be the first to ReplyA restaurant with as much class and quality as your favorite gas station dumpster.
The food: subpar ingredients, subpar cooking techniques, subpar portions.
The staff: on my way to the washroom, I heard the manager and waiters make fun of an innocent elderly couple that were dinning right next to us that couldnโt pronounce a word on the menu.
The washroom: Very very very dirty.
At this price, all three need to be at.a minimum level, Unfortunately, in this case none are.
Great food!
I ate here with my girlfriend and a friend july 2020 while visiting Vancouver. The food and the service were great.
My only issue was ordering one of the specials not on the menu. Had I known the price, I wouldn't have ordered it, my own fault for not asking. The pasta dish overpriced at $75.
Other then that, great place !!!!
The best restaurant in Vancouver
I just celebrated my birthday at Cioppino. When we arrived there, there was something wrong about our Car. Pino, the owner and the chief, was extremely helpful, arranging everything for us and making sure that we could enjoy our dinner worries-free. The food was wonderful, and personally I would say, the best in Vancouver. The service was great as well. We had a great time there! We are very appreciated for the help offered by them! I highly recommend Cioppino, not just for the food but also for the people there!
P.S . The T-bone steak is the highlight of the night! love it!
Best Italian fine dining in the city
It has been several years since my last dinner at this restaurant, but I was very glad to see that nothing has changed. The smaller room is beautiful, with a remarkable collection of bottles. The food is delicious, faithful to the original Italian recipe when possible (see, for example, the ossobuco or the brasato), or tastefully and inventively revisited, when finding the right ingredients is impossible (I am referring to the cannoli). The service is impeccable and accurate. The was very noisy. I went on a Saturday night at 9pm, and the restaurant was still relatively crowded when I left at 11pm.
