Wonderful experience
An enchanting atmosphere with attentive and fantastic staff! Giles was our primary waiter and made sure we had a dining experience to remember! Thank you to Giles and all the staff! We will return!
Be the first to ReplyLukewarm at best
Overpriced, extremely small portions and lukewarm food at best. What a let down! Arrival wasnโt great, our table wasnโt ready and the atmosphere upstairs was as bland as the decor.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, Diabolical Service - READ & BE WARNED
What a poor experience for a Mother's Day Lunch. BE WARNED Booked at least a month in advance and requested their best accessible table for the best Mother in the World (of course). They leave it until just the day before to inform me that it's one step into the restaurant but a "few steps" to the toilets on the first floor (understatement of the year). There was no way my Mother was going to be able to go upstairs, so I had to delay our departure to allow her to toilet one more time at home to avoid the necessity whilst dining. Before setting off, I messaged the restaurant to advise them of a slightly later arrival time and because I realised it was now raining. I also called en-route to confirm we were were going to be about 20 mins late (as I had courteously indicated to them earlier) but the receptionist said she would have to ask the kitchen as they would be "closing at 2.30pm". I re-iterated I had a disabled Mother on board, hoping she would be more sympathetic and accommodating, to no avail. She asked me to hold on but then the call was terminated. I called again 5 minutes later to be told she was still waiting to ask the kitchen and that she would call back. I got the impression, she couldn't care less either way and, besides, there was a ยฃ40 per head charge secured by credit card for a no-show, irrespective of the fact that the table was booked for 2 hours. The restaurant called back 5 minutes later and asked if we could get there in 10 minutes - again no consideration for the fact that arriving in a car would involve parking it first and that it takes time to get someone into a wheelchair and a bit longer to push them. Nevertheless, we arrived, parked and got to the restaurant 15 minutes later - wet, stressed out and full of foreboding. Our feelings were not misplaced. We approached the door and I could see some staff standing at the reception desk chatting. I knocked on the door to grab their attention but they were too busy to be interrupted. Then a customer who was on his way to the toilet noticed our predicament and opened the door for us. The staff continued to chat even though they saw us trying to struggle through the doorway with the wheelchair. Finally, they acknowledged us, asked our name, took our umbrella and then directed us to a waiting area through another set of doors. Bearing in mind it was now 30 minutes later than our booked time, they still kept us waiting for another 10 minutes before we were taken to our table. Call me cynical but it seemed the table we got was punishment for arriving late. It was a fairly plain table in the centre section, far from the stunning main room or the cosiness of the bar area - in fact opposite the exit of the kitchen, so Mum was subject to a constant cold draft from possibly a window open inside the engine room. Anyway, we ordered our drinks and food, skipping a starter as we didn't want to get thrown out for overstaying. The food duly arrived, it was very good - and so at least this went well. Then I asked for a stirrer as Mum's drink had settled. The waiter went off, walked back and forth several times serving other diners - and then promptly forgot about my request. Ten minutes later, I asked a waitress for a stirrer too - she did exactly the same thing - walked off, walked back and forth several times serving other customers and also forgot about us. So I went to the bar myself, asked for a stirrer (which they seemed somewhat perplexed about) and returned with a long spoon, rather than one of the glass stirrers I was expecting for such a fine establishment. We ordered desserts. When the waitress delivered them, I pointed out the long spoon I had to get myself - she mumbled some excuse about being busy. We enjoyed the desserts though whilst watching her being very attentive to other diners, some of which were just receiving their desserts at 4pm - so much for the kitchen closing at 2.30pm. We took our time to allow Mum to get warm with my jacket and then asked for our bill. This was promptly brought by the waiter I had asked for a stirrer - so I showed him I had got one myself, to which he also mumbled an excuse about not knowing what I meant - yet he didn't bother asking me again or returning to our table to tell me so. The previously very busy waitress wasn't so busy though to take my payment (with 12.5% "service charge" added) and we got ready to leave. Knowing that we would have two sets of doors to manage, none of the staff had the common sense to follow us and to help with opening the doors. Oh no, it took another diner to open the first set of doors for us - and then I had to ask one of the staff still chatting at the reception to open the external front door, an absolute poor display of bad manners for such a lauded-establishment. So to the owners (if they can even be bothered to read reviews) I say...You clearly need to train your booking/reception staff to read booking requests and to be more sympathetic and accommodating when an expected diner is disabled: You clearly need to install some accessible toilets downstairs; You clearly need to train your staff how to be more mindful and helpful of disabled diners entering or accessing your restaurant - and, for such a fine establishment charging on average ยฃ100 per head, I'm sure you can just about afford some glass stirrers (and train staff what they are) so diners can stir their own drinks if necessary, rather than having to borrow a spoon from the bar. To everyone else I say, spend your money elsewhere where they really know what service is.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but service too speedy and ruined by waiters dragging chairs backwards and forwards across our table
This is a pretty restaurant and the food and service were good in general. However, the starters and mains were served and consumed in under 45 mins. The ambiance was spoiled by waiters dragging chairs in front of and behind our table four times during our meal. This is supposed to be the most romantic restaurant in London but not when everyone is moving the furniture around! Not the best anniversary meal overall.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, excellent food and outstsanding professional service
Romantic atmosphere, excellent food and knowledgeable professional service especially from the enthusiatic sommelier. Very very extensive wine list and some prices to match.
Be the first to ReplyClassy as ever
This restaurant is a perennial favourite. It's so classy and does a lovely and useful pre-theatre supper. The staff are the epitome of well organised top level service.
Be the first to ReplyThe most romantic restaurant in London
We had our Anniversary set menu dinner here. The service was attentive/courteous, all the staff were pleasant, Francesco was superbly looking after all of us with elegance and grace. The food was divine and beautifully presented. The atmosphere and cosy surroundings make this place so special, along with impeccable service. A fantastic venue/restaurant to spend a special day with your partner or friends. A must booking for couples or friends.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing!
The restaurant is beyond beautiful. The clever use of mirrors and flowers made the room seem larger and yet intimate. The open fire was a delight also. Every single member of staff was delightful and so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. They explained dishes and wines. Canโt wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyMixed again.....
Just another mixed experience: in summary, the conservatory is uniquely beautiful with a great ambience: - service is very attentive and friendly but a bit uncoordinated eg 3 times asked for food order by 3 different waiters before even being asked for a cocktails order to start with - food is very flavoursome indeed and cooked wonderfully but only luke warm so a bit disappointing - wine list amazing and a little overwhelming but with a knowledgeable helpful sommelier - lots of cheese options but only FOUR dessert choices (surprising for the French who excel in desserts) Of course, I would recommend but could do with more attention to fine detail.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional!
All round fabulous. From the wonderfully warm welcome and absolutely fantastic food to the excellent wine list and faultless service - all in such a beautiful setting. The personal touch's provided by Gilles made a 21st birthday lunch extra special. Thank you so much to all at Clos Maggiore - we will be back soon!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic place, great food and great service
I went to Clos Maggiore for dinner with my mom, and even though it is known to be a very romantic place for couples, we also thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, with the cherry trees in the ceiling and decorative lights going through the locale. We had a four-course dinner, starting with the slow-cooked egg, then the duck and then we finished with cheese and a lemon tart. The servers were attentive and especially the sommelier was great. The food tasted really nice and we really enjoyed our evening. We felt so full after it! An absolutely great experience and will definitely come again.

Absolutely first class thank you ,food and location amazing , service spectacular and decor beautiful - easy walk to the theatre
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Food, Venue & Staff
We booked last minute and had such a wonderful time at this beautiful restaurant. The food was exceptional and the staff so warm and friendly. We eat out often and this is without doubt going to be one of our firm favorites. We have already booked to take some friends next month. Cannot wait return and enjoy the ambiance of this stunning venue again.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect lunch in every way!
We have been trying to get into this restaurant in Covent Garden for dinner for many months to no avail, so decided to try for lunch and SO glad we did! It is a really beautiful restaurant, amazing food and the set table d'hote lunch menu represents great value for money! The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, the wine delicious and all in all one of the best lunch experiences we have had in a long time. The Conservatory at the back of the restaurant appears to be the most in demand tables, not sure why as the tables in the restaurant at the front are just as nice and follow through to the back. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, will most definitely return and our thanks to the staff that looked after us especially Ludovic.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing 21 Year Anniversary Dinner
We had a phenomenal experience at this establishment. Celebrating our 21 year Anniversary, the ambiance and staff were top notch and made things so memorable for us. The 2nd level dining area had the same decor as the famous main dining solarium down stairs, including a fire place but was far more quiet and intimate which we preferred. The food was top level and our server was a lovely young lady who went out of her way to to ensure my wifeโs allergies were accommodate for. Again the food was AMAZING and coupled with a wonderful staff and stetting we feel you canโt go wrong here.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Lunch (3 people)
We loved this restaurant. It is small and intimate, even more beautiful than the photographs, and Iโm delighted to say the staff were fantastic and the atmosphere was wonderful! Great food, we will definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyGREAT lUNCH
Three of us had the set lunch in the conservatory area. I found the "blossom" experience over the top but it obviously floats the boat of many. A reasonable limited of choices. We wee all tempted by the seared scallop "chowder", cooked perfectly and delicious. Two had the pork tenderloin cooked pink, I had the risotto. Again all were well cooked and presented. I'd even go so far as to say the risotto was too large a portion! The glass of sparkling wine as part of the set menu started us off well; two of us shared a half bottle of sommeliers choice of wine. Top service from the maitre'd, sommelier and waitress.
Be the first to ReplyEverything I expected and more
I visited Clos Maggiore with my partner recently for the pre-theatre menu having been meaning to try it for years and we were not disappointed. We sat in the atrium, which was beautiful and very romantic. All our dishes from the pre-theatre menu were delicious and I opted for a chocolate and mango dessert from the a la carte menu which was also divine. I'm interested to see some recent reviews say this place is no longer what it use to be, but having not been before I have nothing to compare it to and can only say my own experience was lovely from start to finish.
Be the first to ReplyPrettiness is not its only calling card
Touted as the prettiest of restaurants and indeed it is. Refined service and food and excellent value for its offer . Only warning is to make sure you get to 33 King street at Covent Garden as I found out to my dismay that there is another place bearing the same address which was where I ended up initially and had to make a mad dash back to Covent Garden .
Be the first to ReplyArrogant rude service
Very rude staff with no training and lack of knowledge of their menu. We ordered St Marcelin cheese and was given Camembert but the waitress refused to admit she was wrong and would not apologise Service very average and the rest of the food ok.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect dinner
The evening was perfect! Very attentive and smiling service, delicious food (I had a perfect risotto) and good advices from the sommelier! We will definitely come again.
Be the first to ReplyA bit mixed
This restaurant delivers on a number of fronts but for the price point, I felt there were a couple of areas that were disappointing. The starter was superb, but the halibut main just had a bit too much going on (competing flavours) and the fish was slightly over cooked. A small but odd thing we noticed was the limited choice of side dishes didn't seem to go with some of the main, including the one we choose. For me, the interior and bathrooms need a bit of a refresh and despite the fireplaces, there seemed to be air heaters blowing all around which didn't do much for the atomosphere.
Be the first to ReplyHigh end prices and high end service and food. Just what youโd expect
OK, this has to be my 5th or 6th visit here. I took a good friend as a treat before a west end show. Just as always, the food and service was exquisite. Real fine dining, beautiful food and attentive waiting on their patrons. Everything you can think of is here. Wine experts, food experts, people to help you at every turn. The set pre-theatre menu is seasonal and always a delight. The cauliflower soup was truly divine, the vegetarian risotto just burst in my mouth and the hot rolls are just gorgeous. The drinks are a premium here as youโd expect from a high end restaurant but why not treat yourself. All of the table waiting staff are very professional and attentive as much or as little as you want. Nothing is to much trouble here. Booking in was easy and no hassle too. On previous occasions Iโve had the tasting menu and that was out of this world. Iโll certainly be doing that again soon. In summary, not cheap and cheerful. A high end, well priced and excellent customer focused establishment. Itโs all what youโd expect for this price point with the attention to detail and service youโd expect.
Be the first to ReplyElegantly run and pleasant to dine in
The restaurant has a fresh feel to it, given its white blossom interior dรฉcor; the staff are impeccably correct, throughout. The set menu is well-priced with a glass of bubbly included, but beware the various supplementary mark-ups on a number of its dishes if trying to stick to a fixed cost. The wine list is outstanding and the prices for the items in it echo that adjective! Overall, a great venue for a special lunch or dinner in Covent Garden
Be the first to Replythe set 3 course lunch
This is the second time we've visited Clos Maggiore and neither time has disappointed. An unassuming external facade opens up into what feels like heaven inside This was our first time in the 'show' room, previously we were seated elsewhere. Despite looking incredibly spacious the restaurant is small and intimate with trickery done by mirrors making it appear much larger. Book a table at the start of lunchtime service if you want to be seated, surrounded by flowers, in this room. The ambiance of the restaurant is amazing and it well deserved to have won the 'most romantic restaurant' award. Service was second to none with unobtrusive waiting staff who appeared exactly when you needed them but were otherwise discreetly hidden. The food is simply divine. The set 3 course is unbelievable value, there are more than enough dishes to choose from to satisfy the appetite of a big dumb carnivore and his pescatarian partner The restaurant was aware it was a double occasion for us and we got a little something extra although I don't think we were treated any differently than any of the other guests. EVERYONE was made to feel extra-special. Whenever we are in London we will always return here. Trust the sommelier, he is your friend. The wine list is the size of a phone book. its much easier to ask for his recommendation and find the perfect match for you choice of food
