Walk-in only brunch place in Morningside heights.
It can be a bit noisy, but classic and affordable American brunch fare. Fluffy pancakes and surprisingly great lattes!
Be the first to ReplyGreat environment near Columbia! Food is solid.
I wish they would offer specials to change up the menu.
Be the first to ReplyVery tasty brunch near Barnard and Columbia.
Great service and a robust menu. I had the egg white scramble with roasted veg and my daughter had the pancakes which were both delicious.

Uses SEED OILS such as canola oil in certain foods where it can be easily avoided. They should look for an alternative such as olive or avocado oil. Otherwise great food.

The food was just straight up bad served it to us cold and it tasted horrible. For 2 people it was 100 dollars for terrible food. The actual restaurant is nice but everything else is bad except for the 8 dollar orange juice

Came here for a quick catch up with my sister during brunch hours. Although a bit pricey, the food was fresh and delicious but nothing spectacular. You definitely need a reservation as it gets crowded . Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful. The blueberry pancakes were good but nothing spectacular. The menu has a lot of options which was great. The portions were decent. I also had the B E.L.T. Heritage hickory bacon, free range egg, lettuce, tomato, mayo, sourdough toast, carrot hash browns you can definitely taste the freshness. They also have Gluten free options and veggie sandwiches available. The ambience is casual.

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat before heading to a Columbia women's basketball game. Although a bit pricey, the food was fresh and delicious. At the time that we went, it was surprisingly not crowded. The place was clean, roomy, and well lit with decor that made you feel at home. Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful.
Be the first to ReplyWe were regulars at community with their prior menu.
So disappointed they have eliminated the fish special which was always superb. Now they are emphasizing sandwiches. So long, farewell.
Be the first to ReplyVery reliable restaurant in the Columbia area.
Lovely fresh food, terrific salads & rice bowls. GF clearly marked on the menu which is so helpful. Friendly staff. A relatively large space for Manhattan but has a cozy & warm ambience. Hot chocolate was large & served with cream, but nothing special.

I heard that the owners of Clinton St Baking Company are the owners of Community and came here excited to try the pancakes but felt highly disappointed. Let's start with the hot chocolate. It wasn't hot at all. They served lukewarm hot chocolate that was slightly bitter. I'm not sure how they made it but it was definitely watery and I felt like they gave something from yesterday without even warming it. The pancakes were extremely greasy. I've never thought of pancakes to be greasy but they had a strong oily taste to them and I couldn't even finish them. The maple syrup didn't help and neither did the flavors. They had good blueberry and chocolate filling but after eating 1/3 of the pancakes, I couldn't handle eating the greasiness/oily taste since it felt like I was drinking oily blueberries at this point. The carrot hash browns were okay. The potatoes were not flavored and they fit some carrot shreds in between. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I've definitely had better hash browns. The service was quick but it was hard to get hold of a server for even simple requests (it was not even busy and 3/4 of the restaurant was empty) and the one server splashed water over my friend who I was dining with while trying to fill a cup of water. The restaurant itself is chic and cute for a date spot but I don't even recommend this place for a date if you're looking for good food. Will definitely not be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyLentil salad very good.
Fries not so much. Ordered steak medium rare and came medium well. Chef said too bad. Cava and Malbec good. Lights very bright, felt like a diner. Bathrooms rundown. Service not great. Won't for back.

The vibe is good and the service is friendly, but the food I tried is not good. If I see a biscuit on a breakfast menu, I am ordering it. The biscuit that accompanied the Country Breakfast tasted...healthy. It made me sad. It was dry and crumbly like a scone, but not as rich. With visions of a buttery, craggy, flaky biscuit drying up like the hockey puck on my plate, I turned to the eggs, ham and home fries. How bad could they be? Bad. The ham was so dried out it wasn't worth eating. I asked for eggs cooked dry - they were brown and gross. The home fries had potential - they were crispy and threaded with carrots, which sounds like a bad idea but is actually a good idea. But they needed salt. So much salt. It hurts to pay for such carelessly cooked food. Get a new chef, please!

Came here for brunch on a Saturday -- there was a 30 minute wait (not bad LOL). It was well worth the wait, though! Our server was so nice and so quick with everything. We all ordered coffees and water along with our entrees. I had scrambled eggs (the most fluffiest eggs I've ever had!) and shared pancakes with my husband. The food was excellent! Would definitely come back again.

The grilled pizza was really good! The pancakes I've had before and while they were good it was a littleTOO blueberry-y for me And then the maple butter is just extremely rich, but more a personal preference thing. The service is pretty good though, they leave you be for as long as you like mostly. They're quick to seat you and bring wait, but It is a really long wait for the food.

Informal with good food, some interesting dishes. Service was efficient without being intrusive. Ambiance can be quiet to lively - depends on time and day - easy enough range. It's becoming one of my favorite goto places for delicious, healthy food.

When I first came in the staff immediately greeted me and got the waters ready. They were incredibly kind when I informed them I was wising for a friend. They also kept coming to check in on me while I was waiting. When my friend arrived, we ordered and our food came quite quickly. Overall liked the spot and looking forward to trying it again.

Have been going to community for many years since it first opened. It had its little annoyances -like closing the kitchen early and they generally stop seating about 30 minutes earlier. pre-Covid this was 9:30 now they close at 9Recently sat down at 8:30-8-40 and had a delightful waitperson. I ordered the mussels and about half way through I started to get sand in most of them and the broth as well. I don't like to make a fuss BUT it was inedible! The Manager came over and he immediately offered to replace it It was now 9:07 he returned to the table and they told me that if I returned the dish I would not get anything to eat as the kitchen was closed and the kitchen staff refused to put in another order or make anything else.I understand shutting down the stoves, broilers, etc. but they would not even make me a salad or sandwich! nada, zip , zero. Then they asked if I wanted the mussels anyway -but I declined. They did the right thing and took it off the bill, they also offered me a complimentary desert, butterscotch pudding which was very good!Sad that a good ole standby could not figure out the right thing to do and the nail in the coffin was when the began breaking down all the tables, settings, and then washing the floors with the bleach solvent liquid as my companions and also other tables were still eating. No going to be a part of this "community"anymore.
Be the first to ReplyPancake sauce is elite.
Breakfast menu is 9/10 but don't come here for lunch/dinner. Great spot for outdoor seating on a sunny day with a mimosa, or cozy indoors with a hot coffee. I wish they would bring back their pre-pandemic weekday pancake deal that included pancakes, fresh squeezed OJ, and coffee for a good price.

I've been here for the grass fed burgers twice which are really good. The beef is very tasty. It comes with a generous portion of hand cut fries which is challenging not to finish. I also tried the hot cider for the first time which wasn't too sweet but even nicer with a squeeze of lemon. Service has been been consistent both times - they are attentive enough that they refill your water glass but hands off at the same time.

I needed a place to grab a bite and work remotely, so I came back here since it's close to campus. I'd say that the weekday dinner menu is much better than the brunch menu. I tried the fish of the day, which was a red snapper with mushrooms and greens in a miso sauce. Super yummy and came with one side of your choice, which I chose sweet potato fries. The service was excellent, just right. Since it wasn't too crowded, I could enjoy my meal and finish doing some work while enjoying a hot cup of apple cider on this chilly day. Overall, it was a delicious and productive experience for me, although they do not have any guest wifi, which is unfortunate.

1) dinner for their salmon bowl. 2) brunch for their BLT & pancakesI love making salmon at home but after having this salmon bowl, I can't go back. The way they make a medium salmon over a bed of brown rice, carrots, and peanuts with this peanut sauce. Soo good. I always get extra peanutAnd their BLT for brunch is seriously so good. I've had delivered once. The sourdough bread is so why it's the best BLT I've had. The outdoor seating is dog friendly and the staff gives us water bowls. Plus, David --the manager. He's so friendly and we love going and saying Hi.Perfect UWS neighborhood spot for us.
Be the first to ReplyLet me start by saying that the ambience inside of this
Let me start by saying that the ambience inside of this establishment is quite nice; albeit they still look like they are under construction, as one side has obvious plaster done and in need of a paint job by the kitchen. Seating is cozy and some of the rest of the space is an "open concept". They also have generous outdoor seating, might I add.My friend and I ordered dinner. We both had burgers; I had the "NATURAL GRASS FED BEEF BURGER", which had Vermont Cabot white cheddar & caramelized onions, with hand cut fries. I clearly told the waitstaff that I wanted my burger medium/well done with no pink showing and no blood. When my burger arrives, it was room temperature, and the inside looked slightly raw. Not too mention, the fries weren't crispy. We also ordered the MAC-N-CHEESE BOWL, which consisted of White Cabot cheddar sauce (they must be getting a deal on this cheese because it's on everything in this damn restaurant). I have never had a more bland Mac & cheese in my life. It tasted like sawdust and styrofoam baked at 375 degrees. Come to think of it; it didn't even smell like any Mac & cheese that I have had as of late. Whomever added that dish to the menu needs to be written up. My friend got the GRILLED SALMON BURGER, made in house with wild organic salmon, served with avocado, arugula, wasabi mayo, and a side of dressed local greens and noticed while they gave him avocado, there was no tomato or red onion. Since when do these vegetable come a la carte?!? I can't with the shenanigans. In closing, while I enjoyed the ambience, I'd definitely could've been better. I don't think this restaurant is a place know for the seasoning of its food; the present is cool but the flavor just isn't there. The waitstaff are pleasant individuals, though. But I would eat a bowl of water with a fork before ever eating here, again.

Community was a go-to gem in the neighborhood around the church where I work, until today when I was treated so rudely by a woman staffer who insisted that I move after I was seated in order to make space for a larger group. It wasn't busy on a Monday night as I was waiting for my dinner companion. I called to make a reservation and was told reservations weren't made for groups less that 10. I asked about the usual availability of seating and it was suggested I arrive early. I told them I picked the spot for a quiet conversation. I was told to re-seat myself. The experience was so distasteful that I was asked by the person I was talking to on the phone if I was staying there saying they wouldn't patronize a restaurant with someone claiming to be the manager who acted that way. I was so hurt and angered by the experience. I wanted a good setting for a sensitive conversation. Too many mediocre places in NYC to raise my ire up at CFJ again. Disappointed!
