We visited Contessa for New Year's brunch.
It's situated at the top of The Newbury, an upscale hotel across from the Common. It was decorated festively and the atmosphere was buzzing. We enjoyed the sweeping views of the park and the city while we dined on some great food- a highlight was the pastry basket. The service was prompt, attentive and accommodating- especially important as my party had dietary restrictions. We'll definitely return for a date night at some point soon. New Year's brunch is going to be a tradition moving forward.

TIME. The waitstaff are friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is swanky art-deco (but you can wear jeans and no one will look twice at you), and the food was so good I wish we had been on video after every bite; it would have been a great marketing opportunity. Love love love spending my birthday at Contessa.

My two besties and I were talking about returning here (we've had many visits to restaurants in this upscale hotel over the years) and Bestie 1 scored last minute reservations for Sunday brunch. First of all, the atmosphere is brilliant. The interior design is beautiful and because of the way the tables are set up we felt almost like we had a private space. The view is a bit underwhelming because the barricades surrounding are high enough to cut off any thing but rooftops and skyscrapers (and the occasional construction crane). The sky was gorgeous on this crisp Sunday in early March, so that's something. I hear it's spectacular at night. The greeters and waitstaff are friendly and efficient. Our server brought us a peach Bellini (yum), a sauvignon blanc and a champagne. The menu was a bit curious; I expected more breakfast items but there were few. I had my eyes on the Florentine Benedict and the Macaroni with Wild Boar Ragu, and then someone at the next table got the Spicy Lobster Capellini and it was all over for the three of us. I got mine "unspicy" (kudos for having that as an option, Contessa!), my pals didn't, and we all declared the meal scrumptious. I lingered on the dessert menu but left that for another time. I thought the prices would be out of this world but many of the items were reasonably priced; the lobster capellini was more ($44) as were the meat dishes ($55-$65), unsurprisingly. I'll definitely be back!

lovely interior, can't wait to come back for a brunch in the summer for the views! squash carpaccio was so good and i loved the fusilli genoveses. server was very personable also
Be the first to ReplyVibrant restaurant.
Five star service at the bar. I had a great fruity mocktail. The cocktails looked great too. I also had branzino and garlic broccoli. I will return here with my friends! Fantastic views from the Charles River and Back Bay too. Come for the view and food and stay awhile.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food & spectacular views.
Love it every time we come here. The fusilli is a must order and the salmon was FANTASTIC. Rosemary potatoes also never fail.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely come for the view and beautiful setting.
So elevated and elegant! Otherwise food wasn't the most special thing in the world, but still good. My brother was a big fan of the eggs benedict. I was pleasantly surprised that they brought me a small birthday dessert on the house - that was a nice touch! I'm glad I came and this is definitely a place to bring someone you're trying to impress!
Be the first to ReplyThe benedict was probably one of the best I've had and had
The benedict was probably one of the best I've had and had a very nice view of the Commons. It was a very nice day too so it was very warm. However, I do think the portion was small and wish the benedict came with sides. You could order additional sides as well but most brunch place I've been, the dishes often comes with a side.
Be the first to ReplyHonestly one of my favorite restaurants in Boston.
I have been here multiple times for dinner and brunch and it never disappoints. The restaurant has a stunning location on the corner of Newbury street overlooking the Boston Public Gardens. The aesthetic and decor makes the experience feel elevated. The menu is not huge but I have enjoyed everything I have tried. The squash carpaccio is perfection. The tuna crudo was also the perfect bite. The meatballs were super tender and decadent. People also enjoyed the calamari & octopus. The whipped ricotta was also creamy and flavorful. For pastas, I love the spicy lobster capellini. For mains, the branzino was great. The butter chicken was a large portion. For desert, I love the hazelnut tart. For a large group, recommend doing family style and trying different pastas & appetizers. Overall, an excellent place to grab some elevated Italian cuisine in a beautiful location in Boston. A go to for when I have friends visiting.

A brunch spot with typical breakfast food but what makes this experience worthy is the vibe and beautiful interior design of the restaurant. Great spot to catch up with friends over food and coffee as well. We got the croissant, French toast and egg Benedict - all tasted like regular breakfast food, nothing outstanding but it was a great environment to hang out either in small or large group and socialize. Service is quick and friendly and our waiter was very attentive. Food 7/10 Service 9/10 Experience 8.5/10 Value 7/10

If you are looking for subtle or low-key -- this ain't your place. If you can turn your head long enough from the stunning view of this rooftop restaurant, you might notice the long marble bar with striking graining -- which is a work of art (and also 3 rows deep during peak hours). The bartender will make you a mean Negroni, I promise you. Come here to make a statement and witness plenty of other people doing so. However, like a short man in a Ferrari -- he must be compensating. Sorry to say, I sampled the salmon and the lobster capellini and found them rather average. Pizza is better than average for Boston, but c'mon Boston is not the standard. I take this place in stride -- great for a late night drink with friends or to wow some visitors. After that, it's back to the quiet of a good Barolo and homemade gravy to return me to my zen-like state.

My husband, our two grown children and myself had a wonderful dinner at Contessa Boston a couple of months ago. It was a fantastic night!I only wish you could call the restaurant. I went through 6 people trying to speak to someone today . A couple of friends were having lunch and I really wanted to pay for their experience. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO TALK TO A PERSON AT THE RESTAURANT!!!!!

I love this place and everything about it! Located at the end of Newbury Street near the Boston Common this rooftop (enclosed) restaurant with panoramic views of the city makes us feel special every time we come. Maybe that has something to do with us coming here for our birthdays, but I'm pretty sure that even if it wasn't a birthday celebration, we'd leave just as happy.I arrived first and was asked my water, preference, still sparkling or tap. When my other two friends arrived our server quickly came back to grab our drink orders. Service is excellent, when we were torn between all the delicious options, our server came over and answered a few questions about dishes that we were considering. We decided to go all out and get multiple courses. We started off with the burrata which is a must order! We also got the French toast and the scramble. Yes you can get French toast anywhere but this is hands-down the best French toast I've ever had. The crust is crunchy and sweet, and the middle was warm and soft and fluffy. I don't know how they got that crust like that, but that's some thing I could never do at home and not some thing I've had at other restaurants and believe me, I've had a lot of brunches. As for drinks, we got our standard three drinks per person. The three drinks being water, a latte and a peach Bellini. One of us also ordered an espresso which also looked delicious. The birthday girl also treated herself to a delicious full bodied glass of red wine which I'll have to ask her for the name of an update this with. So I guess we just got all the drinks. Our main courses consisted of the Veal Milanese the steak with grilled onions, grilled garlic cloves, and a mushroom sauce on the side (I don't like mushrooms, so that on the side request was for me), and a side of bacon. The steak was cooked perfectly, I didn't miss the sauce at all. I don't think anybody else at the table really used the sauce with the steak either we just used the garlic. We easily spent hours here, indulging in delicious food and drinks basking in the sunlight of this beautifully lit rooftop restaurant that makes you feel like you floated out of Boston onto a quaint rooftop somewhere in Europe. I cannot wait to come back here in the spring and summer for some rooftop Bellini's.
Be the first to ReplyAll I can say is- wow.
Contessa is definitely worth the hype. I'm docking a star because the one of the hostesses' manners left a lot lacking. Aside from her, service was superb. We ordered:The complimentary bread with olives/cheese/etc- 5/5Pumpkin Ravioli- 10/10! (Still thinking about it)Grilled Mediterranean Branzino-5/5Rosemary Potatoes- 5/5The cocktails and wine selection are also wonderful. And the interior is gorgeous- it must be amazing in the summer!

I made the reservation a month in advance and when I got there I had to wait thirty minutes after my reservation time, as multiple groups with reservations went ahead of us. When we were finally seated, we couldn't even get a window by the view, we were seated at the high tops at the bar. When I got the carbonara, it was cold and tasted nothing like carbonara. It was not worth the view.

Made reservations for Saturday brunch and didn't realize it was in the roof of the Newbury Hotel. Beautifully decorated and earthy with amazing views of Boston. Staff were all so friendly. Seating can be a little tight especially on the couch side. Gave me good vibes and reminded me of the Ivy in UK. Dishes can be shared and you must try their pasta selections.

I returned to Contessa earlier this year to celebrate my dad's birthday, and we had a very enjoyable meal. As I requested, they seated us away from foot traffic, and we had a great view of the Boston skyline. Having eaten there a few times before, I can say that the food is consistently delicious. I have my favorites! 1. Shrimp Mezzaluna, 2. Spicy Lobster Capellini, 3. Meatballs, and 4. Chocolate-Hazelnut Cake. The ambience is just incomparable ~ a jewel-box interior, really an occasion for which to dress up! Finally, they have delicious cocktails ~ we enjoyed the Paradiso Verde (refreshing) and Lion's Tail (a bit sweeter but also very good). This is definitely a special-occasion restaurant for celebrations and/or out-of-town guests. Reservations need to be made in advance for dinner, 30 days out on their website (made through Resy).

Be the first to ReplyContessa the perfect place for a girls day out.
The drinks were amazing, the bar is a great area if you are celebrating. We did get asked to lower our tone at the bar only fare after a few drinks. My personal favorite was/is the spicy lobster capellini. Portion are small, suggestion is to order multiple appetizers. Bread lovers sorry to break it to you but on the day we went at 215pm "no bread. " Now for pricing, a group of 5 girl 2 appetizers 5 orders from secondi endless drink we spent around $400 with tips. But we did get a complementary desert. Booking was an easy process, although the restaurant closes to prep for dinner service at 3pm we were invited to sit at the bar. The staff was friendly. The view was great, just an overall great. Eres una ambiente sรบper relajado.
Be the first to ReplyWhat is going on with service in Boston? Today during lunch
What is going on with service in Boston? Today during lunch on a Saturday, there was one waiter on the floor for 15 tables. (Three others pouring water.) It took flagging down the manager to have an order taken. The food here may be among the best in the neighborhood, but the service is a complete mismatch. Unless the restaurant staffs appropriately for the future, we won't be back.
Be the first to ReplyContessa has one of the prettiest rooftops in Boston.
Amazing views for brunch. Got the Carbonara Scramble, smoked salmon carpaccio, & the French Toast. All amazing choices. The french toast was probably my favorite because it was so crispy on the outside & the inside was delicate from the panatto
