Very mixed experience: 1. Decor - beautiful. They did a great job of making the old Dosa space look elegant and friendly. 2. Menu - might as well be in a foreign language. We had no idea what the names of the dishes meant nor did we recognize most of the ingredients and we've been dining out for 40+ years including at high-end and Indian restaurants. 3. Service - friendly people, but at no time did they make any effort to ask if we had any questions about the menu or explain it to us. Given the menu is incomprehensible, that seems like a fundamental flaw. 4. Food - mostly good, but again no effort by the staff to explain what the dishes or components were when they came. The duck legs were great, but were we supposed to dump the whole dish in to the appam, or tear pieces of that and dip that in the sauce? 5. Wine - Terrible!!! We looked at the wine by the bottle list and thought, "do they know we're in California?" I think they had 2-3 California wines on the list, none of them very recognizable. We opted to go with wine by the glass. Thank goodness they offer tastings before the full pour. My father-in-law almost spat out the Canary Island white. I couldn't recognize the Chenin Blanc as being that grape. The German Riesling was acceptable. The suggested Italian red was horrible. We settled on a French Syrah that was passable. Two out of five isn't a very good batting average. 6. Vibe - buzzy Millennials and Gen-Zers. Throbbing bass in the background music. People who looked like they thought they’d hit the jackpot just being able to get a reservation. For the amount of money this restaurant costs, it's definitely not someplace we'll ever go back to.
