My son and his girlfriend had dinned at Cucina Sorella and raved about it so for my birthday it was the place to go and Cucina Sorella did not disappoint We arrived at 7:30PM on a Thursday evening for our reservation and because I forgot to request out door seating we had a little wait before a table opened up (there was plenty of seating inside). Once seated we experienced the only hiccup in that it took about 10 minutes for a server to come by and greet us and take a drink/appetizer order. We all attributed it to the industry wide staff shortage as we noticed only 2 or 3 servers for the entire restaurant. Since it was a Thursday night we lucked into all day Happy Hour and being seating in the patio area it was available to order and we took advantage. We ordered the Burnt Brussels sprouts and the Meatball with Polenta from the Happy hour menu as well as the Squash Blossom from the regular menu. Each item was excellent with the Burnt Brussels sprouts the best of that type I have had. The Polenta with the meatball was so creamy that at first I thought it was a burrata or something similar. As for the Squash Blossoms, well just order them and enjoy! For our mains I had the Short Rib Pappardelle, other selections were the Bucatini Amatricana and the Rigatoni Bolognese. My Short Rib was fantastic, full of flavor and the pasta done perfectly with just the right amount of “bite”. I did get to taste the bucatini the next day (my wife’s leftovers) and man was that good too. We had the Tiramisu for desert and that in my opinion was the only flaw in a perfect dinner. It was made in a cup and though it was good, it was not like the layered Tiramisu I am used to eating (if you are ever in Boston go to Anico Forno or the sister restaurant Terramia in the North End for an amazing Tiramisu). Our service improved after the initial delay in coming to our table so overall it was very good. For sure this is a restaurant I will be returning to when I come down to San Diego from Orange County CA.
