Da Kitchen Kihei Reviews from The Last Year
Good food but I found better in Hawaii.
Their spam musubi was delicious, I did enjoy their pork too. Their chicken katsu was a little mid. Portions was big.
Authentic Hawaiian hole-in-the wall Mom and Pop food joint.
Good food! Good portions, but pricey.
Had extremely high expectations and they were just missed
Had extremely high expectations and they were just missed sadly. I got a mixed plate which was good but nothing stellar I liked the temp shrimp the best. My wife's chicken katsu came with enough to feed 3 people. She liked hers. Definitely wouldn't get the fried misubi again. I'd come back and try more stuff. The portions were huge which made the price sting a bit less.

So good! If you want authentic Hawaiian cuisine, this is the spot! Do get the garlic noodles! Tanifa is amazing, kind, hardworking, and knows what to recommend!! Must try while in Maui!!
This place is a gem! Got the mixed plate for $25.
Not only a great value because this one meal will feed me for the next 4 meals, but it was really good. Fun lively place in a strip mall. Service was friendly and attentive.
This is the best restaurant in the area.
If you want Hawaiian food come here. It does not miss. I ate here twice in my 5 day stay in Maui.
Local treat
We were so excited to try authentic Hawaiian food. The place is small but big on charm. The staff was so welcoming and we all loved the food. Especially the ribs and chicken. The desserts were sold out and I’m sure they would have been yummy.
Great food and service.
We had to garlic shrimp, lemon caper mahi plate, and the bento mixed plate. The portions were generous. The food was delicious. Highly recommend this place!

I overheard a lady talking about this place on the plane on my way here. She would not stop talking about this place so I had to see what the hype was all about. Let me tell you they did not disappoint! I had a hard time finding it but glad they were patient enough to tell me where they are. From the phone to the time I sat down till it was time to leave, the customer service was on point. Now let's talk food. WOW!! I ordered their deep fried spam musubi! Then kalbi and my son ordered katsu! So much food and it is definitely da kine at Da Kitchen!! I can see why they were featured on Food Network!! Clean, awesome music, and the people/service....IMPECCABLE!! Mahalo for making our first experience an awesome one! We can't wait to tell all our friends on the mainland and I definitely can't wait to come back and try other dishes!
A thousand percent recommend this spot.
The food is DELICIOUS and the portions are HUGE! The staff is awesome. nice and attentive. Place is very clean and inviting.

Had to try this place since it was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It is big portions and food was tasty. Ordered spam musubi, poke, and mixed plate. All delicious.

Awesome food and super friendly staff! Plus a great alternative to the pricey food at any resort. Some of the best Masubi! Definitely a place it visit if you can swing by.
Love this place.
Food is so damn good. People so nice! Hope to see you soon! Get the katsu!
We always make a stop here for some takeout.
Food is always fresh. I appreciate that if they don't have something they will suggest a substitute
Good food and great portions.
The Kalua pig /chicken Katsu plate was perfect-2 meals for sure. They give L&L a run for their money.
Come hungry! Da Kitchen has a menu that offers something
Come hungry! Da Kitchen has a menu that offers something for everyone. This spot had seating inside and outside which I love. We did the Korean chicken and the pulled pork. We tried a blended fruit drink and honestly I would probably pass on that moving forward and it didn't woah me. My sister got the Oreo shake and said it was amazing, so note to self for next time. The Korean chicken was okay, I don't think I would say it was great. The pulled pork on the other hand was great, and the mac salad is also really good. One thing you'll find on the island is that the mac salad is very different from restaurant to restaurant. I was happy to see they've gotten it right. Right after we got our order their power went out, I'm pretty sure the entire strip mall experienced the same power issue. Sadly they were turning people away. It gave SA vibes on load shedding but hopefully it's not an ongoing issue. I would return!

When I say this was one of my favorite meals in Maui, I mean it! I can't stop thinking about the teriyaki beef and we ate out A LOT. The beef was so tender and the macaroni salad was soo ono. We enjoyed the little patio tables they had outside too. So sad we discovered this on one of our last days here.

This place is not good and expensive I will not be going back 2 cups of noodles and a chicken thigh $31 and change
Food was good.
Had a mixed plate. Spam musubi. Wife had loco moco which we were not a fan. Burger and gravy needs flavor. Service was awesome!! Nice atmosphere!

A spot that's been recommended multiple times! I got the pork kaluha and chicken katsu combo. The portions are HEFTY. Definitely enough for two people's dinner. The pork was very very salty but after a day it was a lot more manageable. The mac salad was very delicious. I also got the fried spam masubi. It was super great with the sauce but without it, there was a lot of rice. The spam was flavored inside too! Not sure I would go out of my way to go there but would order takeout for a classic flavor!
I'm a little upset with tourists and locals.
This place should be banging- but it's just steady busy! The original location was our favorite restaurant on the planet, and we were crushed when they closed during the covid lock downs. Fortunately, they did reopen in 2022 and this was the first place we came when we landed that year. They were busy like the old days and it made me happy. Been here this week- came twice and neither time was busy. Come on people- it's the same great food, just a different location. The Notorious big is the best loco moco I've eaten. Amazing! Had the mixed plate tonight- think of tge rainbow drive in, but with the best, fish, Katsu, teriyaki chicken and beef you've ever had. Phenomenal! The crab mac and cheese is worthy of a visit just for that alone. The kalua pig is also probably the best you will have anywhere. If that wasn't enough we got a piece of peanut butter chocolate pie to go, and it was possibly tge best dessert we had this week. (Apologies to Dukes.) This is the best Hawaiian comfort food you will ever have- on any . Please come and support them!
I was quite disappointed.
I had been looking forward to going to Da kitchen, after not going for a long while as they had closed. I know they're probably trying to cut down on whatever costs they need to, but serving a $27 dish in plastic to go containers is a terrible idea. I know their portions are large. When they were at the other location they used regular dishes and everything was so much better because you would just go up to the counter and order your food, sit down and get it when they called you, now they have three women who ask if you're eating there or if it's to go but you're eating out of a plastic container and the food is all crammed up and you can't even cut any meat or anything because everything is piled up on top and it's a huge mess. The food I had was super dry. It doesn't come with any kind of greens and the prices are awfully high, I ended up taking most of the food home because I couldn't cut up the chicken or the other. I don't know why I brought it home because I'm not going to eat it. This place is not a dining place, if this is a sit down place, why would they put food in plastic containers for people to eat out of plastic containers? It's extremely uncomfortable and not practical even though they think it is it is not a good experience for diners at all. That's where the tipping is confusing too, it is difficult because you're eating out of a plastic container so it puts a damper on the whole experience, you're not enjoying the food because of the plastic.containers and not being able to cut up meat in a container where u can't do much, I felt frustrated and left, why pay over $30 when you're hating the experience, I will not be back!
Da Kitchen never disappoints! Food still one of the best
Da Kitchen never disappoints! Food still one of the best local food you will ever find!
Really good food.
Have been here a few times now. Recommend the chicken teriyaki. Not a lot of seating inside, but you can also sit outside. Staff is friendly and has that family run feel.
So happy this place is open again.
Same great food as before. Only down side is they don't sell alcohol but it's BYOB.
Phoned in a to go order of the katsu +kalua combo.
It was ready within 10 minutes. The large portion was great to share. I love katsu but it was bland and the batter didn't stay crispy. The kalua pork was salty and dry and was palatable when combined with the the shredded lettuce, rice, and the potato /Mac salad. I had such a good experience last time I ordered this, it was a bit of a let down
Excellent Hawaiian food.
Of course it doesn't have a lot of ambiance - who cares? I'm there for the food. It's a little tricky to find. It's in the Long's center, but in the corner with a small sign.
Pretty disappointed with this place.
I got recommended to go here and suggested I try the loco moco. I've only had loco moco at the Big Island airport and thought it was the best thing ever so was on a search to try a real loco moco in Maui. I was really disappointed with this one though. The portion was HUGE which is always a plus, but the patty was just SUPER dry and overcooked, with no where near enough gravy on there. On the other hand, I tried their freshly made banana bread that was absolutely AMAZING. & they had other menu items that looked great with big portions as well, I'd be open to giving it another shot but will not be trying the loco moco again.
Awesome, delicious, well priced food that left us full with
Awesome, delicious, well priced food that left us full with plenty of leftovers. When traveling we always try to shop and dine local, and this was a great find! I had Da Kitchen Bento Plate (so so good!) and my girlfriend had the saimin, which she said was some of the best she's ever had.
I know it's incredibly popular and always a wait.
But I'm not so enamored and will unlikely return. It's a big portion so be sure to share your plate. Otherwise I am unsure what the attraction is. We ordered: Mixed plate Loco moco Katsu All tastes fine but nothing to write home about. Ambiance is meh. Be prepared to wait for a subpar dine in experience.
This small restaurant next to Longs never disappoints.
It has a few tables but mostly is for take out. They are friendly and get your food ready very quickly. Everything we've had here was delicous. I got the bento place it can easily feed 2. It had shrimp, 2 kinds of chicken, teriyaki beef, rice a musabi and doing sauce.
Put this place high on your list for a delicious local experience.
Amazing authentic island food! Watched Triple D and Guy raved about the ribs. So on our trip to Maui with my friends who were experiencing Maui for first time we decided to put it high on list. We had to stop at Costco on our way and ended up with minor car issue. The nicest man helped us out. Guess what? He owns Da Kitchen. So we headed there immediately for lunch! Wow! We had the Kalbi ribs. Broke. Da. Mouth! So good. Friends had mixed plate and Kalua Pork. Served up with all the fixings I hoped. The staff was amazingly efficient and friendly. The taste, the vibe, everything was what I wanted my friends to experience. Owner and staff made us feel like family. As we walked to our car with full bellies I started to cry. I’m home. E Ku’u Home i Maui This is what Hawai’i is all about.
It may not look like much, but WOW does it have good food!
Wow! Great food and huge portions. Nothing fancy, just great food. We ate at a lot of great restaurants in Maui, but this may have had the best food for overall menu. I definitely want to go back and try more.
Terrific plate lunch
Tucked away in a corner of a strip mall, this unassuming spot is a great place to grab a delicious and filling plate lunch. We arrived at 11:30 am and the small interior dining room was already full of customers with a waiting line outside, so my wife and I chose to order take out and eat outside on the tables they have. We shared the Hawaiian Plate, a combo of pork lau lau, Kalua pork and lomi salmon. The flavors are as good as we've tasted anywhere (though my wife found the lomi a bit too salty) and the portions are generous. The prices are not a bargain, but are reasonable for the area. We would certainly return to dine here on our next visit.
Homestyle Hawaiian Food in Modest Surroundings
Nestled away in the corner of a strip mall, Da Kitchen offers homestyle Hawaiian food in modest surroundings. Be aware that the restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol, but they allow you to bring in your own – which we did. We ordered the Katsu Moco and Hawaiian Plate from the friendly staff, and both were great, although we couldn’t eat more than half because the portions were huge. Bring your appetite or be prepared to take food home.
If I lived here I would be a regular.
This place is so popular it thrives even though it's tucked into a nearly invisible corner of a shopping center. The food is excellent and abundant and the service is friendly and fast.
Disappointed with it being a Triple D stop.
Portion size is great but overall food quality was not deserving of the 4.5 given by so many people. Disappointed with it being a triple D stop.
Delicious
I ordered the garlic shrimp plate. It came with at least 10 large shrimp served over a bed of cabbage, noodles , rice and a sauce along with a salad. More food than I could eat! My husband loved his teriyaki chicken dinner and my daughter loved her kalua pork and chicken katsu plate. The service was fast and the servers were friendly . You won't be disappointed
A must try!
HUGE portions at a reasonable price, not to mention delicious! I tried the combo plate with chicken katsu and kalua pork, both were divine and came with generous portion of rice (I chose to upgrade from side of mac salad to green salad). We dined in where there was a small amount of seating, wait staff was very kind and service was fast as well. Easily one of the best restaurants around!
Service Fast; food good not great
One of our friends is a local and took us to Da Kitchen. We were seated quickly as we thought we might have to wait since we were a party of 6. The food was average but one of the guys in our party had the Korean short ribs and they were very good.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
