Dame New York Reviews from The Last Year
Third visit to Dame and damn, it's always a great time.
We ordered a bunch of new plates off their summer menu: - Morels stuffed with Shrimp (4.5/5) - fresh, acidic dressing engulfed the morels stuffed with shrimp. Great start to the meal. This was in the top two for others in ny part of three. - Zucchini Squash with Peekytoe Crab (5/5) - my favorite item of the night. The green onion soubise with the fresh basil and the garlic breadcrumbs add a majestic and delicious complexity to the dish. - Skate Entree (4/5) - almost a 5/5 if the green sauce hadn't been under salted. Loved the cook, texture and taste on the skate fish. - Fish and Chips (repeat order) - this time however, I found both, the fish and chips, oilier than usual. Hence a 4/5. Side note, I do wish they served mushy peas with this to create the holistic English FnC vibes. - Sourdough Bread and Butter (5/5) - another repeat order. Nothing to fault. Lovely meal. Almost excellent execution. Dame does a great job with seafood. Did miss their Sticky Toffee Pudding this time. Maybe it will make a comeback in their fall menu.
The few blocks of MacDougal St.
south of Washington Square Park are jammed with restaurants and comedy clubs. Dame is a tiny, tasty English seafood spot here. The Mermaid Oyster Bar is next door. Dame has 5 tables, one communal high top and 7 bar seats, plus 4 tables outside. The bar separates the dining area from the open kitchen. Reservations can be a challenge due to its small size. Pretty much everyone orders the fish and chips. I started with the whitefish salad atop fried polenta, topped with trout roe; tasty but slightly fishy. I got one grilled oyster (they're $5 each) to try, and it was excellent, topped with a green hollandaise. I'll order more next time. The fish and chips were also very good They use hake, a firm white fish. The breading was super-crisp and not too heavy, the chips were proper. Tartar sauce, lemon, ketchup and malt vinegar were available. The dessert selection is small--eton mess or a sticky toffee pudding. I got the eton mess, which appeared to me to be more like a pavlova--a crisp meringue shell topped with custard and a passionfruit-rhubarb compote--very tasty no matter what you call it. Tasty and cute Village spot.
Chips so good we ordered extra for dessert.
Fish was excellent as well. The appetizers were okay, not super memorable (oysters, squid). Service was friendly and attentive.
What a treat!
Visited the Little Owl on a recommendation from a friend! Wow! Wow! Wow! We love a dining experience and the staff made sure we were not disappointed! We started with a lovely wine selection. The Sunflower Salad was so fresh and tasty! AND the Eggplant Parmigiana was absolutely the amazing! The best I have ever had!! My husband raved about the Lamb Cutlet! Our server found out it was my birthday and treated me to a candle on my Strawberry And Rhubarb Crisp! Then, to make our perfect night even better, the staff gave me a copy of their cookbook as a gift! Our evening was spectacular in such a lovely find in the West Village! We can't wait to visit again!
A totally great find!
Tucked away on a couple of narrow streets in Greenwich Village is this hidden gym of a restaurant! Thank you, Chef Art Smith for recommending this little hidden treasure! Chef Joe knows exactly what he’s doing. The staff couldn’t be more friendly and outgoing and each and every course was delicious. We sat outside and the weather was perfect tonight. The french fries are freshly cut and are some of the best I’ve ever had, we both had the pan seared chicken half with mashed potatoes, which was exceptionally yummy! We shared an order of their freshly cut, french fries which were over the top delicious! the strawberry rhubarb crumble with fresh strawberry ice cream at top it was so good. I ordered another dip of the ice cream. Amy was the gracious hostess and Adrienne was our friendly and great waitress. Small and charming, subdued lighting inside definitely a must!
Very small portions of excellently executed food.
Stuffed morels were good but I wanted more. I was surprised how much I liked the kedigree. Loved the oysters la skip the bread and butter its paltry dry bread you can buy at zabars. Skip the desserts. Also very very tiny restaurant that's why the resys are hard to get. Great orange wine selection

Delicious food, great service, and it's very beautiful and relaxing inside it was also very decently priced so we got to try a little bit of everything! Highly recommend!

Love this place! I'm from LA and made this trip to NY, I've been dying to try the fish and chips since I saw the video on EATER! Food, service and ambiance is outstanding. Can't wait to come back.
The beau has wanted to try Dame forever and we finally made
The beau has wanted to try Dame forever and we finally made a point of snagging an early reservation at the counter. We were struck by how small the establishment is hence the hard to get reservation. I think I prefer the counter actually. It gives you an immersive experience but that may not be for everyone. We enjoyed our drinks while perusing the menu and asking questions of our server who was of reasonably attentive seeing that we were sitting directly across from his station. He made a nice Vesper martini I must say. We ordered the grilled oysters (they are by the piece) which we thought were excellent. Next time I would order more. Then we had the white fish with trout roe on fried polenta. This was lackluster, bland, and fishy for the beau. We split the fish and chips of course and we really enjoyed it. Great batter and the fish was mild, flaky, and ample in portion. The chips seemed triple fried making them dark and crispy. Loved the tartar sauce and malt vinegar accompaniments. Saving room for dessert we opted for the sticky toffee pudding. Wowza was that good! Creme fraiche and all. We had a nice time and would recommend to those looking for a cozy seafood resto.
The most amazing seafood I've ever had in New York City -
The most amazing seafood I've ever had in New York City - this was so unexpected! The service and vibes were also amazing
Wow!! The food was amazing.
This is one of the few places I've been recently that is very deserving of the hype. Every dish we had tasted amazing, I can't even pick a favorite. We started with the Raw Scallops with Uni and Citrus. The seafood was so fresh. Uni is such an unforgiving ingredient, and there was no fishiness at all. Scallops were paired with delicious sauce as well. The Grilled Oysters were superb!! The sauce was sweet and a nice compliment to the dish. Personally, I thought the Squid and Scallion skewers were just okay, but I can see why they're a favorite. The sauce on them is delicious as well. The Tuna Tartare was also great. Lots of anticipation for the Fish and Chips, and they were the best I've ever had. The chips and batter on the fish were light and fluffy, and the fish was so soft and tasty. The Toffee Pudding was good but soooo sweet. The creme fraiche was a necessity to cut the sweetness. The drinks we had were okay, nothing special. The service was really nice as well! It is a smalll restaurant, so it will be a squeeze. My one qualm is that we sat at the bar, which was right in front of the kitchen. It was amazing to see them preparing everything, but there was quite a strong smell of oil/food that lingers on your clothes for a bit. Overall very solid meal.
The service here is truly so abominable and hostile that it
The service here is truly so abominable and hostile that it detracted from the food completely. There are a thousand places in New York with good food that won't treat you like dirt, go there instead.
Nice Happy Hour
Lovely little place. We came here during The Happy Hour over the Easter weekend and we enjoyed everything. Great service, delicious menu choices. We we are looking forward to coming back and try the dinner menu.
Everything was phenomenal from start to finish.
We started with the oysters and the squid & scallion skewers, both of which were incredible. For our mains, we shared the monkfish and the fish & chips. Was unsure about ordering the fish & chips given how good everything sounded on the rest of the menu, but we trusted the reviews and have no regrets. I've never had fish & chips that good. Days later, I still can't stop talking about how good this meal was.
A Disappointing Experience at Dame From the moment of
A Disappointing Experience at Dame From the moment of arrival, my experience at Dame was far from what I anticipated. Despite arriving early with excitement, I was met with a less-than-welcoming reception. With a chilly evening outside, I was instructed to wait 30 minutes, even though I could see four vacant tables through the window. Understanding the importance of reservations, I patiently waited, only to witness a later-arriving couple being seated before us, seemingly at the table designated for us despite having specified table seating in my reservation. The dining experience did little to improve from there. The meal commenced on an uneven note; the sourdough bread was satisfactory, and the baked oyster managed to delight, but this was where the culinary success ended. The eel and mushroom dish fell flat, lacking in flavor and execution. The tuna, described as a staple dish, was disappointingly basic and marred by chewy, unappealing pieces. The anticipation for the fish and chips turned to disappointment as the restaurant filled with the smell of burnt batter. The arrival of our dish confirmed our fears: burnt fries and overly salty fish that rendered the dish inedible. Throughout this ordeal, the service was dismissive and unapologetic. My polite feedback about the excessive saltiness of the fish was met with a smirk and a dismissive comment from the waitress, further dampening the evening. The request for a fresh batch of fries added another 15 minutes to our already prolonged wait, leaving a lasting impression not just on our evening but on our clothes, which carried the unwelcome scent of burnt fries home with us. In reflection, the experience at Dame was marred by poor service, disappointing culinary execution, and a lack of empathy from the staff. It's disheartening to write such a review, knowing the challenges of the service industry, but it's important for future patrons to be aware. Regrettably, I cannot foresee a return visit to Dame; the search for exceptional dining experiences will continue elsewhere.
Not the best visit at all
We have waited for a very long time for the dishes, they were ok and some were less than that. They forgot our sides…The host was super rude! During the payment she literally was making sure we will give a big tip. When one of us had decided to tip 15% and not 20%, she actually said out loud “ oh so u’ve tipped 4 dollars. When it was my turn she was so impatient and rude that she just left her machine and took off. Not recommend unfortunately…
Cute room, nice vibe, pretty good food.
Sat at the counter/bar, which was a little cramped. Enjoyed the fish and chips but they're not the best I've ever had, let alone in my Top 5 (I'm from the PNW where fish and chips are kind of a religion). Good cider. Friendly server.
Pre birthday brunch
I’ve always wanted to come here since I’ve read so much about it. My sister in law and daughter accompanied me. I think we ordered everything on the menu and all was delicious! Service was great!
Really really good.
We had the sourdough bread, skewers, fish & chips, cod with lentils, and sticky toffee pudding. Everything was terrific, particularly the fish & chips, of course. Only caveat is that the prices are a bit high, the space is a bit small, and it's a bit loud (and dark) inside. But the food is fantastic and worth it!
Many reviewers write about the batter of the fish and
Many reviewers write about the batter of the fish and chips, which is indeed excellent, but I found equal -- if not greater -- joy in the fish itself. The restaurant uses hake, an uncommon selection when cod and haddock are the usual suspects. While not as sweet as haddock or as soft as cod, the choice of hake is a sensible one. The fish is robust, 'poached' perfectly in the frying oil, and does not separate from the batter after frying. Of course, the batter is delightful, drawing inspiration across the pond from the legendary Heston Blumenthal. The chips are properly cut and fried in duck fat. Malt vinegar is sprayed onto the fish, and a bottle is also provided should you desire more. What's missing, if I have to pick a shortcoming, are the curry sauce and mushy peas. The Squid and Scallion Skewer was a nice starter -- I found the scallion to be even tastier than the squid. The menu offers various seafood selections across starters and mains; I'd be interested in trying other dishes next time, though the fish & chips is enough of a reason to return.

known for the fish n chips, but i think every dish i had was amazing. their fish n chips is really, really good. I think the batter was better than any fish n chips i had in London. their beef tartare and oysters are also amazing. their sticky toffee was a 10/10 too.
You need to visit
Such a cosy little spot in a lovely location. I couldn’t recommend the Little Owl more to anyone visiting New York. All the staff were great and the food was some of the best on the trip.
This place is literally the restaurant of my dreams.
This meal had basically everything I love -- all my favorite seafoods. Dame is very tiny, but they make it work (in a cute and quaint way of course). We sat at the bar for 2 and got straight away to ordering. Our waitress was extremely helpful in suggesting how much food to order with the portions. Between two, I split the grilled oysters, the tuna tartare, and the fish and chips. Everything was literally a must order. I came for the fish and chips and then was absolutely floored by the other dishes. The toast was thick, soft, and chewy. The oysters were so melty and creamy -- unlike anything I had before with the hollandaise on top. And those fish and chips... best I've had! The batter is so crispy and light while maintaining the fish's soft texture. I will note, the fish and chips is a big portion. But you'll definitely wanna get an entire one for yourself because it is that good. Everything was epic. Also, get the pimm's cup. I had the perfect order.
The hype is real.
This is the best fish and chip you can get in NYC. I'd even say better than places I had in London and Ireland. The batter is light and crispy and the fish is sweet and tender. Perfect combo. The fries are hand cut and some are extra crispy. I like that. Both are seasoned perfectly. The tartar sauce is great. And I don't even like tartar sauce ! I had the English sticky toffee for dessert. I ate the whole thing. It was that good. I loved the gelato they put a dollop of on top. It was kinda citrusy which worked will with the warm flavor of the toffee. I sat outside bc it's a small restaurant and I'd suggest reservations. I was a walk in. The staff were so attentive to me and my dog ! The only thing is they don't serve coffee or tea. But they do have a nice wine list !
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC! Everything
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC! Everything is delicious, the staff is amazing and the vibe of the restaurant is super chill. If I could continue to get reservations for this place I would go over and over again. Love it and my favorite are the grilled oysters, tuna tartare and fish and chips. I lived in the UK for a while and never had fish and chips as good as these!
I almost didn't want to write this review.
It was hard enough securing a reservation at this small venue which seats less than 30 in doors, and I don't want any additional competition for my next visit. But alas, my higher nature has prevailed and I will share my experience at this tiny jewel of a restaurant. Don't let the casual decor fool you, the cuisine is definitely elevated. I sat at the bar with a prime view of the open kitchen and the staff constantly moving about like a team of whirling dervishes, energetically whipping up delectable dishes. I started with a grilled oyster with green chartreuse hollandaise. Even if you're not a fan of oysters, I highly recommend this appetizer. The oyster was perfectly grilled so the texture was not too slimy, not too rubbery, but just right. The chartreuse hollindaise provided a bit of citrus and herbaceous flavor, and just the right touch of sweetness. There was a real harmony of flavors that made this simple preparation quite the clever dish. The squid and scallion skewers were also very enjoyable. Pro tip: use the freshly toasted sourdough bread to sop up the olive oil and herb based concoction poured over skewers for an additional delightful treat. The smoked whitefish croquettes were a game changer! I had no idea whitefish could be so juicy and flavorful! The fried golden crust had a crunch more satisfying than a potato chip, making the croquettes more addictive than a can of Pringles. I would've gladly noshed on a bowl of those all night, but then I may not have had room for the best fish and chips I've ever had in my life. The fish was exquisitely battered so that the desired texture was present, but not overdone (I despise taking a bite of fried fish only to have a mouthful of fried batter). The gleaming fish inside was faultless, appropriately flaky and succulent with a mild flavor that was drawn out by the added malt vinegar. The accompanying chips were warm, crips on the outside and appropriately soft inside, each one, a bite of delight. You've heard of chef's kiss, but this actually made me want to kiss the fish! The skate cheek kabab was flavorful with marinated peppers and yogurt. The flavor profile was very reminiscent of Mediterranean cuisine. The tender baked cod was exemplary and complimented by hearty butter beans and delectable chunks of savory bacon. The veritable expertise in seafood displayed during my experience blew me away. I'd happily return....if I'm lucky enough to secure a reservation again.
Cute and cozy brunch
My daughter and I met friends for Sunday brunch and we really enjoyed it! The food was really delicious, especially the croissant sandwich special. My mimosa was tiny and at $15 probably not worth it, but the coffee was hot and delicious and our server was very friendly. The beignets were yummy - be advised that the raspberry and Nutella sauces are poured on top and on the plate so if you aren’t sure you like that, ask for it on the side. Leave time to walk around this cute neighborhood too!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
