Great customer service
I have been going to this wine bar for a number of years and it has been remiss of me to add a review as it’s our work local and not really occurred to me. But since it was our Christmas party today.. I have to say there is a special quality to this venue in terms of their customer service which you rarely find in central london. All the staff cannot do enough for you and the food never disappoints. But I have to say the big shout out is their bangers and mash which I would go as far to say is the best in SW1. Thanks guys and see you tomorrow! Rob

Delightful old fashioned drinking haunt and eaterie. The food is traditional Davy's fare from a small menu: fish and chips, burgers, sausages etc. The fish and chips were excellent. A wide choice of decent wines, as one would expect. Service prompt if slightly perplexed. Comfortable. Lots of private rooms. Not too expensive. Quite a find.

Lovely bar and restaurant. Very good staff who were very accommodating for a large group. The food is good and I like a smallish menu, it's a good indication for me.

Had a long overdue catchup wit a colleague from the city and headed to our favourite watering hole. Davy's is downstairs, quiet, gentlemanly, with a great selection of wines and a fantastic lunch sandwich menu. Staff professional, attentive and welcoming, always with a smile. Making it a weekly lunchtime stop...

We dropped in between Christmas and the New Year. This basement winebar is off the beaten track, a five minute walk from St James' Palace, and in late December was empty. But it made a nice quiet spot to have lunch. The menu was limited due to the season and I was a little concerned that we might be getting end of year supplies. Far from it: everything was extremely fresh and of exceptionally high quality.
We had a ham sandwich (£7.75) and a beef sandwich (£8). We also had a bowl (described as large but I would have said an average portion) of chips (£6.50). My sandwich was full of beef and with a great kick from the horseraddish - yummy! The chips were also perfectly cooked, with a crispy exterior and extremely fluffy inside. I had a half pint of pale ale (£2.80) and my companion had a small glass of house rioja (£9.30 - which seemed over-priced). The total bill calme to £34.35. So not cheap but reasonable value given the qualifty of the food. The service was friendly and efficient.
Good food in a warm, welcoming ambience
I was there for dinner with clients. Our meal was promptly served, but we were not rushed. The house claret (a Sichel) is delicious. After a good meal, the mini-desserts and coffee is an excellent option.
My one criticism is that our efficient waitress went off duty at 2100 and the follow-up service deteriorated with us having to ask for everything ourselves. This would have been a five-star rating otherwise. It did not spoil the enjoyment of the evening, and should not be taken out of proportion.
Wine bars in the Davy's chain remain my favourite venues in London for meeting friends and colleagues as we never feel rushed.
A Truly Relaxing Old Fashioned Place
Arranged to come here with some great fellow City Gents for a late lunch and we definitely weren’t disappointed.
The overall service level from the staff was first class as was the quality and choice of food and drink.
A place to return to soon!
Pre dinner drinks in fab location
Modest measure of Hendricks with a slice of cucumber and tonic at £9.95 is a bit steep, but this basement bar between King St and Pall Mall is hard to beat for location.
Didn’t eat in the restaurant but might be tempted. Loved the barrels and atmosphere.
Good loos.
Great team dinner ....
We had an unplanned team dinner and they got us a nice table downstairs. Food was very good and nice wines and service at reasonable prices. Nice ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyHidden jem with great atmosphere
This interesting pub-turned wine bar is hidden underground near St. James's Square, and from the shabby arcade it looks like nothing at all. In fact, it is quite space, with many rooms for small parties, and great atmosphere. The choice of wines is limited - but they are good quality. The meny is different from the traditional pub - and is actually very tasty.
