Top cookery in buzzing atmosphere.
Really top class cooking at this busy buzzing place. The food was all excellent, with not one fault found. The fish cookery in particular was exemplary. one of the highlights of our visit to Belfast.
Be the first to ReplyFood was terrible and over priced for what we got won't be going back
I'm sorry to say . When we ordered our meals it took over an hour for them to serve them. The fish was over cooked and pork belly was 2 small squares which one was just fat and skin and lightly cooked ( still white ) the mash was over salted to the point that I could not eat it. Then everyone had this red wine sauce poured over there meal. Three different meals with the same red wine sauce. Fish, Pork and Lamb. We had to ask for an extra plate to pour the red wine sauce on to.
Be the first to ReplyWho thought someone could be so mean !!!
A wedding present of a voucher sitting on our kitchen shelf for many months and originally we wanted to try another of the Deane restaurants which closed so we rebooked to here for our Night out.. Staff very friendly and couldn’t really fault them . Snacks of Korean chicken bites and Squid were fantastic but the 3 starters we ordered were awful . The Risotto must of been made by a teenager as I originally thought when it arrived someone had ordered porridge …. All lumped together and way over cooked . The crab was….. well more so the biscuit (American style) you get with it …. You can’t lift it as it crumbles , a knife makes it fall apart to just crumbs… a but pointless I thought . The 3rd starter was a blue cheese and pear salad….. now, I hate blue cheese and wouldn’t be fussed on a poached pear hence we ordered the goats cheese salad but alas they wrote it down wrong and delivered something we didn’t want …. I have to say I don’t mind complaining when things go wrong but I would have been there an extra 30 minutes telling them all their food faults so we paid and left without ordering mains … Mr Deane , I can see why your restaurants are closing one by one as for as long as the moon is in the sky I won’t be back near anything in your name.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Sunday
I really enjoy Deanes Meat Locker and fancied a change. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. We both had roast beef, and it was cooked to perfection. The dessert again was excellent. I would definitely recommend.

Be the first to ReplyLovely Evening & Excellent Service
My Husband and I dined in Deane’s at Queens this evening and it was our first visit in a long time. We had a wonderful dining experience, we were greeted warmly on arrival by the Manager and shown to our table by Conall who was also very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our server was Sandeep who was excellent, along with a lovely blonde lady. My Husband thoroughly enjoyed his sea bass and my steak was tasty (the chips were crispy and delicious) It was a really lovely ambience, dim lighting with candles on the tables and and excellent music selection. We will definitely return and thank you to the fantastic team who looked after us so well!
Be the first to ReplyThe perfect place for a celebration
We celebrated our daughter's Christening at Deanes last Sunday with 23 guests including several children. Everything was perfect - the seating, service, and food was all 5*. Sandeep was a standout and made sure everyone had the correct order and our glasses were always full. We brought a cake and it appeared on its own table with serving knife and side plates which was much appreciated. Sandeep also helped us serve it along with tea and coffee after dessert. All of our guests enjoyed their meal from start to finish; I can't recommend Deanes highly enough!
Be the first to ReplyGood night out
Had dinner here as a work event. Food was very good, just a bit slow service. Staff were pleasant. I have eaten here before and it always good.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Food disappointing. Extremely lacking in presentation and taste. Very expensive for what we got. Not a patch on Ox. Service goof
Be the first to ReplyAwful.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression as the saying goes and my first impression was awful. My wife and I arrived, informed the girl with shoulder length bob of our booking for 7pm, apologising for being 10 minutes early. She rolled her eyes, no welcome, not a word said, grabbed menus and walked to a table.. I’ve honestly never experienced such an unwelcome experience in my life, which jars with me even more when I see some Michelin awards on the wall. It’s most certainly not for hospitality. We were in and out in half an hour. No joke. What an awful experience. Food was just OK. The fact we stopped at McDonalds on our way back to the Titanic Hotel says all you need to know. My wife and I have low expectations. We were just glad to get out for the night. We were really looking forward to what we thought would be a real treat. This was our first (and last) time at Deanes. I’ve often seen Michael Deane on local television talking about the importance of supporting local business. The fact that he was only a few tables away with his family and even that doesn’t inspire his staff to provide excellent service is beyond me. My wife is still angry at the way we were treated. We won’t be back.
Be the first to ReplyTop Quality!
I had a lovely dinner with my wife in this restaurant, food was Amazing, Pink venison and pork fillet, pannacotta at the end, service was very good also!
Be the first to ReplyWill be back!
Went for dinner with friends a few weeks ago. Staff were fantastic and the chicken liver parfait was perfection! Will be visiting again soon.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible for vegans and vegetarians
I wouldn't usually write a negative review, but I was so underwhelmed. I came to Deane's at Queen's with a group of friends, which included a vegetarian (myself) and a vegan. The vegan and vegetarian options were terrible, everyone else was getting burgers, steaks etc. I got a bowl of vegetables, I also couldn't get a coffee because they don't do alternative milks. Its just not good enough, really. This is meant to be a good restaurant, but in my view it can't be because of the bad vegan and vegetarian options.
Be the first to ReplyTasty food, meagre portions with no presentation
Food was tasty but portions were meagre. Starter was the thinnest slice of pate imaginable with two slices of toast and a small spoon of chutney. Very poorly presented. Steak main was nice. Again worst presentation ever. One tiny mushroom and a spoonful of pepper sauce and chips. That was it. Cheese board dessert was laughable. Same chutney as starter. Save your money and go elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Lunch
Had a fab lunch at Deanes yesterday. Restaurant was buzzing, great atmosphere. We had a delicious lunch. Our outing though was made by the very attentive and friendly waiting staff, who overheard while we were ordering that we had a birthday girl with us … and we were all surprised when her desert arrived with candle … very impressive!
Be the first to ReplyFood excellent--service less so
Dinner in this restaurant on Thursday last. A good selection on the menu. Food was very tasty--both the starters and the mains. Service not as good as it used to be--wine brought to the table. Bottle was unopened No offer to taste it !! On receiving the bill there was a 10 per cent service charge--there were 2 of us--and this is more common in a group booking. Possibly I missed the service charge on the Menu After we paid the meal we had time to wait for a taxi. We ordered 2 more drinks--and again a 10 per cent service charge--NO THANKS

As a party of 6 we found no fault whatsoever in both our food and the way we were looked after. Not that we were expecting to as that’s why I had booked here in the first place. The food was stunning. Every starter, from the smooth as silk buttery parfait, to the lovely crispy squid and intensely flavored prawn and Chorizo orzo were polished off and we could quite easily have eaten them all again. Main courses were equally as good. Service was very efficient, refreshingly friendly and very helpful. Couldn’t find fault at all. I definitely picked the right place to eat Sunday lunch in Belfast. Well worthy of its Bib Gourmand.
Be the first to ReplyA good start to our Belfast visit!
The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. We were a party of 6, and between us had a fair cross section from the menu including the specials, although we did not have dessert. My only criticism would be that the crisp squid, although lovely and tender inside, was anything but crisp on the outside. The roasted hake was delicious. The atmosphere was lively, friendly and we had an excellent evening.
Be the first to Reply£8.50 for tap water!
Visited this restaurant for my son’s birthday. Having read the reviews, it wouldn’t have been my selection, but it was his choice. We were seated in very uncomfortable wooden seats, despite there being numerous more comfortable seats available. We were served promptly with tap water, as requested, but had to wait some time before eventually getting a drink order. We were a party of 5, and only 3 of our drinks arrived. There were 3 steaks ordered at £30 each, accompanied by a minuscule portion of chips, no garnish, mushrooms or onions. Steaks also of a modest size. The pasta had a smattering of pesto so was subsequently very dry. I did not complain at the time as I didn’t want my family to feel uncomfortable, that is until the bill arrived, and I discovered I had been charged £8.50 for a bottle of tap water! It was promptly removed from the bill. As is customary for all the Deans restaurants a 10% service charge had been applied. Very disappointed. In fairness I sent an email to raise these issues, and allow them an opportunity to make amends. When I received no reply, I sent a follow up email, again no response. So instead I’m joining the ever decreasing group of unhappy ex Deans patrons.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Sunday lunch
Just back from a lovely Sunday lunch at Deans at Queens. It was delicious. We all had squid for starters - very tender and tasty with 2 sauces- portion was more than adequate. My husband and I had the roast beef which is offered pink or well done - we had it pink- it was charred on the outside and perfectly pink and tender inside and served with lots of fresh veg, roasties and crisp Yorkshire pudding. It was Devine. Our daughter had the sea bass and enjoyed every morsel. The service was pleasant, friendly and efficient. I hope it as good next time - because there will be a next time!!!
Be the first to ReplyReally poor, and extortionate prices
Had dinner here last Friday night, for three people it cost us £190 and there was a 10% service tip inserted in the bill which was not deserving of the staff whatsoever because they were ignorant and unpleasant. Chicken liver pate was tasty but one slice of bread is pathetic. Squid again was tasty but the ratio of the sauces to squid was laughable. 2 of us had the seabass which looked like a piece of charcoal when it came out, the skinny fries that accompanied it tasted frozen, cheap and burnt. Another had the sirloin steak and at £32 it was not the best quality steak, only chips, pepper sauce and half a tomato are served with it, onion rings or mushrooms would be a good addition with it. The highlight of the evening was the desserts. The raspberry ruffle and sticky toffee were very good. I feel that an eye has been taken off deanes at queens as it was a brilliant restaurant but there is a serious lack of quality and skill by the chefs who are creating the menus and making the food. The restaurant only had 15 other guests and a private dining table at this time aswell. I would rather stay at home than venture out to this establishment again, value for money and quality are seriously missing
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
I used to eat at Deanes at Queen's quite regularly but hadn't been back for a while. One or two friends had mentioned that the food had gone downhill, but I went along the other night for what was really a business dinner, so I didn't feel I could complain about anything. But I like the staff and the place itself so I want simply to record my experience. Starters were good, but the seabass I had was burnt - the skin was not just charred but black in places and the fish itself seriously overcooked. I noticed two of my colleagues had large burnt areas on their steaks. I just couldn't help the impression that someone in the kitchen just doesn't care about the quality of the food going out. It seemed cynical. Desserts great, but what a pity.... it used to be such a very good and reliable place to eat. Please bring back the old Deanes at Queens!
Be the first to ReplyGood but definitely not Michelin good
Excellent service but just okay food. Squid app was good. Charcoal sea bass was not good - had burnt taste. Excellent wine offerings. Never brought the cappuccino I ordered.
Be the first to ReplyLovely but slow.
While the food was excellent, the service was poor. We arrived at 1pm and currently now at 3.18pm (at time of writing) we are waiting for a dessert menu. The staff seem preoccupied with the customers inside and forgetting the customers on the terrace. The service is painfully slow. When the food did come it was not as ordered, so had to wait even longer for the correct order. It would affect my decision to come back.
Be the first to ReplyOh dear, what is happening at Deane
Went for lunch with two friends yesterday to one of our favourite venues and disaster. The waiting staff, with the exception of the lovely Scott, were abrupt to the point of rudeness. The coley was served in a bowl of sloppy mash, the seabass was minnow like in spite of a hefty price tag and the wine was weak and watery. Ten percent service charge was not immediately evident on menu. What a shame. We usually have a first class meal in lovely surroundings. Don't make us vote with our feet, please.......
