This place has a very trendy vibe.
There's no space indoors and all the seating is outside. After you order your food, you just claim an empty table and put your number placard on it. I started with the black sesame latte which was very frothy and had a mild sesame taste. I got the smoked fish which is underneath all the seeds. The fish was very soft with a nice smokey taste. It also comes with bread with seeds in it. The bread is dense and has a bite to it. Lastly, I got the pistachio taiyaki for dessert. Lots of pistachio flavor and the filling was more liquidy than I expected, but it still had a nice flavor.

This place sells brunch type small plates, pastries, and goodie in jars. I lined up to order and then got the only available table outside. The drinks have to be picked up by the cashier. I got the matcha latte with oat milk since they didn't have soy milk as a milk alternative. I ordered the load avocado confit and it was really healthy. The waiter came to our table and took away our dishes when we finished. There's plenty of street parking nearby.
Be the first to ReplyI am obsessed with Destroyer's brunch.
This place is the real deal. Heavenly culinary experience like no other with an exquisitely unique menu. Just love!
Be the first to ReplyParking was not a problem on a Sunday.
The neighboring streets offered plenty, and we found a slot easily. It was getting a table for six that was challenging. They offer a menu via a QR code or you can glance at their wall onto which they project their menu. Honestly, you can't go wrong with whatever you order. All the food is tasty. We ordered the: Persimmon French Toast: the bread is huge but crusty. It paired so well with the persimmons and the passion fruit & apricot jam, roasted birch leaf syrup and their homemade crème fraiche. It wasn't overly sweet. Smoked fish: they give you two hefty slices of their Icelandic seeded rye bread and a bowl of the smoked fish. It's covered in savory onion granola but it's mixed with pickled celery root, dill and spun yogurt. It tasted so unusually good - not at all fishy, but just a hint of ocean along with some spices. The savory granola provided the much needed crunch to punctuate the experience. Wagyu beef tartare: it's a small portion but it's potent. It has a smoked egg cream, pickled mushrooms and it's covered in their house-made potato crisps. My son wolfed it down and I was lucky enough to sneak a bite when he wasn't looking. It was heavenly. Crispy chicken schnitzel: it sadly wasn't impressive. It's honestly just chicken katsu with shredded kale and some chili garlic oil. Charging $26 for this was a touch unreasonable. It tasted as expected but it wasn't crispy or filling. I was a bit disappointed with this. But don't get me wrong - it's one of their most popular dishes for a reason: it's reliable and the best option for the pickiest eater in your party. I ordered this having high expectations, since Jordan Kahn is known for finding ways to elevate the most pedestrian of dishes. We had so much fun rotating plates and sharing food. Every bite (except maybe for the chicken schnitzel) was a surprise. Jordan Kahn is such a master at combining unusual ingredients and coming up with concepts never before imagined. The cafe is industrial meets hipster, but be aware that there isn't a lot of space. As you line up to place your order, workers come out of the kitchen with dishes and they have to pass through the line. But they have shelves of house-made jams, vinegars and dog treats that you can purchase. All in all, it's one of the best places to eat at in Culver City. Make sure to take photos of your food for the gram! Their food looks just as great as it tastes.

Gets busy on the weekends but great brunch place to sit down and enjoy some brunch. Food// Tried the Citrus French Toast. Gotten it to-go and would def sit down to enjoy this next time. Love the bread, not your typical white bread but more of multigrain seed , rustic bread. The persimmon, compote and yogurt paired well with the French toast. Syrup is good too if you're more on the sweeter side. It's super moist on the inside. $22 for the French toast though is on the pricier side in my opinion. Service// Although I didn't get the coffee, the coffee were pretty long. My to-go order ended up took a little over 20 min. All were super nice. Ambiance// Great for date, friend brunch etc.

Laid back spot with unique offerings! We came for brunch on a Thursday and found parking on a surrounding street. It's pretty casual...we ordered inside and grabbed a table number and our food was brought to our table outside. They had a lot of unique options so it was hard for us to choose what to order! We eventually decided on the persimmon French toast and the sweet potato waffle, as well as a rose latte and a black sesame latte with oat milk. Both lattes were unique and tasty, the rose and sesame flavors both came through without being overwhelming. The portions for the French toast and waffles were both huge, which helped justify the price tag a bit. The French toast was the standout for us...the persimmon was excellent as well as the jam and the birch syrup accoutrements. The waffles were a bit of a let down though, unfortunately. The greens were very sour and kind of took over the whole dish, detracting from the other flavors that were supposed to be present. Overall a good experience but I'd skip the waffle.
Be the first to ReplyWay overhyped and disappointing.
I've been to Jordan's other restaurants and they've been great, but this one missed the mark. Chicken schnitzel- chicken was cooked very well, but the chili crisp tasted acrid and burnt. Several friends tried it as well and all agreed it was very burnt tasting. Iced coffee came out very watered down, quite bad. Blueberry jam bar- this was the only saving grace of the experience. Very good Avocado toast- the avocado tastes spoiled and the dish desperately needs salt. Wouldn't come back unfortunately. For now I'll have to make do with meteora

Location: Hidden in the Hayden tract of Culver City, this place is tucked away between corporate offices. The benefit of this, is if you go on a weekend, it's a pretty quiet street with easy parking, lots of lovely outdoor seating, and not a ton of car traffic. The inside space is only for ordering and pretty tight so just be warned that there can be lines without much order (happy accident pun!). Drink/Food: In terms of coffee, this place is solid. I've had two of their coffee drinks and they both were pretty good. Pastry-wise, big fan of the cinnamon roll, and other stuff is about what you'd expect. Foodwise, everything *looked* good but we ordered the bread and jam and it was underwhelming. People around us ordered the waffle and the schnitzel and they both looked pretty good. Special Notes: There's a park about 10 min walk north that's nice, just beware of thin sidewalks.

The menu is super interesting (fun!), and the space is gorgeous, but the execution has been off. If you asked me a year ago, I would say 5 stars. This time and the last time I visited, the food was very mid. From dishes being under-seasoned to some things taking a while and then being less-than-hot when arriving to the table. All of these things are understandable, but when the restaurant is a casual breakfast/lunch spot and boasts these prices, I expect more. Will definitely come back in the future and check it out, but it no longer is a must-stop when I'm in Culver
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food with great service.
Can get a little crowded on weekends but still overall a great place for breakfast and brunch
Be the first to Replywent for the third time today- each time much enjoyed.
power was out for the whole block today but the staff were still very accommodating with the limited menu they were able to serve. I've tried- chicken schnitzel, hoshikihari rice porridge, hispi cabbage, forbidden blueberries, citrus french toast, beef tartar, house milk tea (if i remember the name correctly) and just a classic latte. all were fantastic. only had a few bites of the porridge as i'm not a fan of runny egg (and it was my boyfriend who ordered it) only complaint is it was a bit too "burnt" tasting after a while, still delicious, just wouldn't be able to eat the whole bowl. That's another thing, the portions are actually good for the price! Usually things in LA are expensive and tiny but here i've actually ALWAYS been satisfied.I also couldn't help but buy some plates, cups, and bowls. Love the ceramics, wish they weren't so expensive but it's handmade ceramic so.... Will also say seating can be a bit anxiety inducing but i've surprisingly gotten a table all 3 times i've gone even though it was very crowded. Will be back!!

Wow wow wow what a special place, from the food to the drinks to the staff and the ambiance, everything here is just so well thought out and thoughtful. Highly recommend coming early so there is less of a wait but everything you try here will definitely be delicious. Thank you to the hardworking staff!!
Be the first to ReplyAwesome breakfast or brunch place.
Food is delicious and very unique and they keep experimenting all the time
Be the first to ReplyStopped in for brunch with my friend and it was paaaacked.
On a Saturday morning things are definitely busy but the food is worth the wait to me! A bit on the pricier end of the spectrum but I'd say on par with LA brunch haha. One thing to not sleep on are the cookies and pastries! Oh my god thinking about it I want to walk over to get another oatmeal cookie lol.

We went for breakfast and the line was so long (30 min wait). We ordered 2 entrees, 2 coffees, and a pastry and it came out to be sooo expensive. I don't mind paying extra for breakfast but what happened next really put a bad taste in my mouth and made me regret coming and paying these prices. I was going to pick up our coffee and I noticed she put our lattes in plastic cups. I remember I went with my coworkers and they serve it in clay cups (i work nearby). The clay cups are an experience on their own (they feel good in your hands and its part of the experience) and since paying 10 bucks for a cup of coffee it's something I was looking forward to. I I politely said oh we are eating here can I have it in a clay cup she looked annoyed, scoffed at me and said that the clay cups are being washed and its not possible. And Then she spoke down to me like a little kid and in a loud slow demeaning tone in front of everyone and said "I promise you the latte will taste the same" . No apologies, a simple im sorry they are being washed but you can come back in x min and they may be ready then. I would have accepted that. But no, you had to go there and speak down to me. Idk why if its bc im young, a woman, a person of color (reading the other yelp reviews that could be it, there was no apology to the person who experienced racism there). I don't know what the reason was there is no reason to talk down to a customer. Especially when they are paying the prices. As for the food, its definitely not worth the price. I used to go several times a week for coffee when I am in the office. I will never come back here. 1. Its a ripoff 2. They treat you like crap! Who wants to pay a ton of money for small portions to be treated rudely for asking a question.

I always bring my friends here - without fail, that's when you know it's good. We got the chicken schnitzel (katsu), koshihikari rice porridge, and berry dessert. Rice porridge was so flavorful. Berry dessert was like a (fancy but yummy) yogurt parfait. Come here when it's sunny nd enjoy the open terrace seating
Be the first to ReplyI had a bad racist experience here.
The restaurant was crowded when I arrived so I tried to snag a table while my partner ordered. The bald buss boy came over to the table next to me and said "you cannot sit and reserve tables. only people with food and numbers can" then halfway he directed his comment to me. I assumed it's cause he was talking to Asians and I'm Asian so he assumed we were all together. I moved to a table next to the door. Then the bald bus boy came over to me and said "table is reserved for people with food. You have to leave" I responded that my partner literally just paid and is coming out with a number. He told me we would deal with it when I had a number. So I ran in and grabbed the number and went back to find the busser so he can find me a table (this only took 5 sec). I assumed since he kicked me out of my table he would help me find a table and kick other people out since he was doing that for other customers I assumed he would do that for me. Boy was I wrong. Thats when he started to ignore me. I yelled excuse me so loud that everyone outside looked at me and he kept walking. I started to notice all the tables with no numbers were white and wondered if that's why he chose me to kick out.So I walked over to a table and said according to the bus boy "people with numbers take precedence when it comes to tables." I was met with resistance and told them I'll let the bus boy explain since it's "his rules". He walked past us a few times. I even called out to him but he avoided eye contact and walked fast past me. I think he was too scared to confront the white folks.Eventually I got a table by myself next to them. These were 2 tables of white customers without a number. After I explained the situation to my partner we sat there and watched the bus boy. He kept staring at the two tables next to me of white customers and even at one point stopped and stared at them while a line of people (primarily Asian) with numbers lingered by the entrance. None of which he helped them find tables or kick out. This interaction made me feel lesser than other people and I lost my appetite. So I spoke with the manager who gave me a refund, which I appreciated since I cannot justify supporting a business that makes me feel like a second class customer. Even though this guy wasn't an owner he still represents the company. I've been to many restaurants in my life and I have never ever had somebody tell me to get out of my seat and not tell others. When our situation were the same, other then our race. I would be fine if he told everyone single person without a number to get out of their seats. But instead he told the only two tables of Asians. Seems like selective treatment.

So far still waiting for their "HR" and insurance company to get back to me. Suffering from severe muscle, stomach pain, headache, nausea, chills, low fever..... Had minor chest pain that require monitoring and potential chest CT. Not going to do that until I get a confirmation from Destroyer stating they are covering my medical expenses and salary for the week.

Yes, it's pricey, but the food is delicious and definitely worth a try!Definitely arrive early, as the weekend line can get fairly long, especially with those coming over after the Culver City stairs. After several visits, my favorite item by far is still the koshihikari rice porridge! It's a generous portion and the flavors are well balanced and complex. Plus, the presentation is beautiful!Coming in a close second would be the creamed kale and smoked onion tart. Again, it's a generous portion, so I would recommend ordering several dishes to share family style!
Be the first to ReplyBrunch doesn't need to be so serious.
I like to enjoy brunch. It doesn't take much: a nice meal, a good coffee, pleasant ambiance, decent scenery, and a welcoming experience.Destroyer checks one of those boxes. The food is pretty great. But everything else? Ive gotten fewer scowls in a jail cell. The staff is only slightly more miserable to each other than they are to the guests. The music (if you're unlucky enough to even be in range of a speaker) makes you feel like you're in a waiting room for an alien lobotomy. The only thing the place destroys is my back after sitting on the awful outdoor (read: only) furniture.Hell, the place functions better as a highway knick knack shop, with some great pottery and candles for sale, than it does an inviting brunch spot.Unless you want a 7 dollar cap with some amazing house made oat milk more than you value your sanity: pass.
Be the first to Reply**Review for their service**Went here for brunch on
**Review for their service**Went here for brunch on Saturday and they seemed disorganized with the seating. But it was more so telling how they chose to handle the situation below. You order up front and find tables outside to sit at. There was no one from the restaurant guiding people AND no signage anywhere about the process. As we stood in line, we saw many people who hadn't ordered yet saving tables before ordering. Therefore we decided it's best for one of us to do the same while the rest of us ordered. As our friend waited, one customer decided to go up to her and angrily asked her to leave the table so he could sit. When she shared others are also saving tables, he decided to bring back a restaurant employee (I think chef?). When asked about the signage, the chef responded they are trying to keep it subtle and forced my friend to leave the table. It is absolutely fine to enforce rules stating you have to order first before sitting. You can also choose not to have a sign. At that point the chef could have also chose to just tell everyone in the patio about this rule. But to pick on a specific person and not even enforce it for others sitting at tables before ordering, seemed to be very intentional and directed. It was quite telling about their attitude and who they want to cater to as a business.Due to this incident, we left before ordering and won't be back.
Be the first to ReplyThis location popped up as an interesting place to visit.
We called a little earlier to see if they would take reservations the day of, but found out that it was primarily a walk-in. When we arrived near the location, parking was relatively easy to find. We got pretty lucky, and I can see how parking would be tough though for this location. When we arrived at the front of the restaurant, there was literally a line out the front door and barely any seating available. I'd say we waited probably 15-20 minutes in line before we were able to order any food. Fortunately, it gave us enough time to figure out what exactly we wanted. Inside the restaurant, at the front, there was a bakery where they were serving a couple of different items. They were also selling additional items like coffee, honey, and some specialty items like Oishii strawberries that I ended up grabbing. We were both hungry for lunch so we didn't grab anything from the bakery. We ended up ordering a Heirloom Potato Waffle, Koshihikari Rice Porridge, and Forestberry Bavarian. One thing to be aware of is that they had an additional up charge for employee benefits (5%) over the standard tax. Once we ordered our items, we left the front to find that there was no seating available. We stood for around 20 minutes when a waiter came up to us to see if she could find us a table to start eating. Fortunately, two tables opened up around the time the Heirloom Potato Waffle was being served. Shortly after, the Forestberry Bavarian (dessert) was served. When the server came by again, I asked where the rice porridge was and from my understanding she indicated (in Spanish) that she would check on it. I was grateful that the person I came with understood some Spanish because I don't speak it. Another 25-30 minutes went by and I still hadn't heard anything. I ended up going and asking the employee at the cash register; they mentioned that there was a delay where they were missing an ingredient so they were in the process of making 12 Rice Porridges. I received my food probably 10-15 minutes after that (1 hour total after ordering). I was disappointed to say the least that I'd waited that long (why I'm giving a 4), but the food was pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of kale in any form but the mix of greens + potato waffle + egg + kale was quite nice. The Forestberry Bavarian was delicious; I couldn't stop eating it and the frangipane was delightful. I couldn't really figure out what all the ingredients were, but the ingredients went incredibly well together. Not only was this dish sweet, but it was also a little tart. Lastly, the rice porridge was surprising. I felt like I encountered a couple of different surprises each time I had a bite. I didn't expect the hidden poached egg underneath the bed of rice porridge. The onions were incredibly tasty. Overall, the aesthetic and visual experience of every item was quite amazing. I'd recommend everyone come here and give Destroyer a try!
Be the first to ReplySo since the first time I went to Destroyer, I heard from
So since the first time I went to Destroyer, I heard from multiple people that the chicken schnitzel is the worst dish on the menu. Now having tried 3+ other dishes, I can attest to that. The PORRIDGE is good, just know it's heavy and can get to be a little too much by the end. There was some kind of tart with sausage and dates that was incredible, I can't wait to come back for this again. The BLUEBERRIES are just OK, in my opinion, not sweet or flavorful enough with the coconut yogurt. The drinks are delicious, and so beautiful. The pastries I've gotten have just been ok, but I am also not a big pastry person. I bring everyone here despite the price tag. It's gotten increasingly expensive -- expect $20-30 for a breakfast entree, at a cafe.
Be the first to ReplyI absolutely love this place.
I've been here twice. Definitely come before the lunch rush so you can snag a table, I'd say around 10am or so. My favorite dish has to be the chicken schnitzel! The first time I had it, it was under a bed of radicchio! The dressing really compliments the chili oil on the chicken. The second time i had it, it was under a bed of kale. Again, two thumbs up! We had the forbidden orchard which had wild blueberries, candied beets and tapioca balls. We also had the oatmeal which I really enjoyed. Their avocado toast is one of the best I've had and definitely worth the price tag! It comes with rustic bread, confit tomato, burrata, puffed rice for a crisp, prosciutto, a soft boiled egg and half an avocado. It was so good! The French toast is massive!!!! You get a huge piece of French toast with a currant jelly that's topped with mascarpone I believe, and pieces of mandarin! I love the presentation, I love this dishes and this really makes me want to try vespertine!
Be the first to ReplyI so don't understand the good reviews.
Came here for the first time around 11am on Saturday, already a long line so I was excited to try. I had a cod dish and coffee. The food Is super little, overpriced for what it is and not even good. Did I just try a wrong dish? Even so, never coming back.
