This food truck is located at Meanwhile Brewery.
The bbq brisket and tomato salad were quite delicious! I have no complaints. The tomato salad had a nice balance of spice with a small hint of heat from thinly sliced serrano(?) peppers. The brisket had a nice bark and was rather tender. Easy to bite into large tender pieces complimented by bbq sauce and onion jam!! So good. Will return as soon as I can.

The first not three meats left. I said 8'd take it be of each to be nice. They deliver d ZERO. I had to stalk their food trailer to get a refund. Wow;Zero is being kind!
Be the first to ReplyThis is the best barbecue in Austin.
Swing by on your way back from the airport and make sure you try their sides as well (boiled peanuts was a fav)
Be the first to ReplyCame here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon.
Had essentially no wait time and my food was ready pretty soon after ordering. Only one meat (I think pulled pork?) and two of the four sides were sold out by the time I ordered around 1230. I went for the brisket with a side of spicy peanuts and thought they were both great! The brisket itself was cooked nicely, had a good mix of lean and fat. Solid amount of smoke on the bark. Compared to the other meats this was very traditional, but the spicy mustard it was served with was a little different and really tasty. Excited to come back and try some of the less Texas traditional meat offerings they have The peanuts were just as fantastic as I was hoping for. The spice isn't too heavy, but definitely builds as you eat more. I could see this not working as a standalone side for some, but if you like your spice and peanuts, this is a must try. Overall they definitely lived up to the hype and I'm sure I'll be back here to try more of the menu!

I got the chili chicken leg and my husband got the pork ribs. We also got the spicy peanuts and the black eyed peas. I really liked my chicken and the black eyed peas were delicious. My husband thought his ribs were good and bit dry. The spicy peanuts are not worth the price. Food was delicious but don't expect much. Tiny pieces not much food. That's probably why they give you a huge piece of toast to fill you up !

One of the best pulled pork sandwiches that I've ever had and there wasn't even any BBQ sauce. Great red cabbage slaw, what is that taste? And the pickled green tomatoes were very interesting and reminded of something my mom would love. The Black eyed peas and burnt ends make me want New Year's Day everyday. I will be back.

Okay the BBQ here is really delicious! Im from Houston, so I mean that haha. The brisket is really flavor-able and moist and pairs well with their tasty bbq sauce. The cabbage is delicious and so is the chicken. The chicken was probably my favorite and im not a fan of chicken from businesses as it easy to make dry. I really enjoyed it and will be back!

I came here around 4 and the dirty rice was not available anymore. Just the peanuts. The bbq meats were still available so I ordered a pound of the beef brisket which was good, especially with the sauce that accompanies it. The beef brisket sandwich with the cabbage was really good and flavorful. They toasted the bun - so important. I also liked that they provide buttered white bread slices with the brisket, I asked for 2 more for a total of 3 with the 1 pound of brisket. I think that's fair, or maybe 1 slice per half pound? Woman was really helpful in helping us figure out how much to order. It's located in Meanwhile Brewery which is a family oriented place (lotsa kids everywhere) and plenty of seating even on a saturday.

Be the first to ReplyWe saw Distant Relatives on Somebody Feed Phil and thought
We saw Distant Relatives on Somebody Feed Phil and thought the food, especially the sides, looked amazing. Phil had pickled golden beets and roasted radishes. I LOVE both of those veggies, so I was pumped to go! I get that sides are seasonal, and unfortunately, those items were not on the menu when we visited. The friend that we met up with had been here before, but had not eaten at this food truck. It's housed in a really cool space adjacent to a large brewery. The outdoor area is fantastic! SO many benches, beautiful trees, lots of shade, play areas for kids, and a few stages. My friend said they have live music often and she loves hanging out there. She ordered a brisket sandwich, and we ordered chicken (bummed they didn't have turkey), brisket, spare ribs, pickled okra, and their black eyed peas with burnt ends. She said her sandwich was fine, and she didn't seem wowed. Our food? Honestly, forgettable. We maybe ate 1/2 of all the food we got. I did LOVE the black eyed peas with burnt ends and ended up mainly eating that. I don't know if this was an off day? Maybe if they had the sides I was hoping for, would I have liked them more? The meat was just whatever, certainly didn't blow our minds, and the was our least favorite meal we had in Austin. I couldn't even tell you how it tasted the next day, let alone three weeks later. Cool place to hang out, but not great BBQ in my opinion.

This was tasty and it's located at the Meanwhile brewery which also had a good sour gose style beer.

5 starsI've tried quite a few things on their menu-- all of their meat is always so tender and well seasoned. My only complaint is that they sell out of their sweet potatoes and sausage every time I go! Really good bbq for a decent price. I just didn't rate this higher because it's not exactly something I would drive an hour for and it's not the most life changing BBQ I've ever had, but it's still really good.Service: 4Really nice staff. They don't go above and beyond, but they do have a nice baseline. Ambiance: 4 stars Meanwhile brewing is a great venue- large outdoor area, live music, cute dogs, great beer selection, good vibes. It's nice, but in Texas, the heat and allergies can get kind of insufferable if you're a weenie hut jr. baby like I am. It's by no means their fault, but it's something to keep in mind. Would I come back? Absolutely! I try to come here at least once every few months for lunch.

This food trailer is popular, expect to wait in line on the weekend 20-25 minutes at noon. Once the order went in, it took about 30ish minutes to get our order. Also, it is best to get in line as soon as you arrive at Meanwhile Brewery, because they run out of chicken and brisket. I learned that on my last visit to this brewery.I had the beef brisket. It comes with lightly toasted bread and pickled carrot garnish. I wanted a side of pickled carrots, but they were sold out. They are super good, and complement the rich brisket. The brisket was not overly smokey, and is so tender and moist. The 1/2 lb. comes with a delicious browned butter mustard sauce, but I prefer their BBQ sauce. My son and his brother girlfriend love the chicken leg quarters. I'll try that next time.

Last weekend I made a long-anticipated visit to distant relatives. I had an afternoon to kill and decided to stop by in the early afternoon. The line was small and manageable. Unfortunate, by the time I came by, they were sold out of the brisket, but I was pumped up to try the ribs. The blacked eyed peas also looked great. The food trailer is set up at the beautiful Meanwhile Brewing. They had plenty of brews to compliment the smoky offerings from Distant Relatives. On to the food and the reason for 4 stars. Everything that came out was very well-executed, technically. The ribs had a nice level of smoke and toothsomeness. The spicy rub had a nice kick. I also really enjoyed the BBQ sauce. The black eyed peas were a little bit of a letdown. They were fine, but unspectacular. I think they would have benefited from a little more smoke/porkiness and a nice zippy hot pepper vinegar sauce. The peanuts were a perfect bar snack, quite spicy but I struggled to find the smoke I was anticipating. This may be a situation where my expectations were unreasonably high, but I still plan to come back and try the brisket in the future, as it sounds amazing.
Be the first to ReplyNah, sorry again it's an Austin food truck
Nah, sorry again it's an Austin food truck park/brewery/swap meet & dog park. Too much was happening for my taste. We tried this place because my daughter and my husband have made it a mission to try every BBQ joint from SA to Austin. Sorry but Austin BBQ can never be SA BBQ.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food.
Pulled pork sandwich, carrots, buttered bread, burnt ends and black eyed peas. Thank you, Phil R, for the suggestion!

The meat was amazing (the ribs & brisket! Yum!) and really loved that they toast the bread they give you to eat with the meat. Loved the sauces and pickled carrots to eat with the meat as well.
Be the first to ReplyAfter seeing 'Distant Relatives' on Somebody Feed Phil
After seeing 'Distant Relatives' on Somebody Feed Phil (Netflix), this BBQ truck made it onto my short list of must try in Austin. Sharing common areas with Meanwhile Brewing, this was a great first stop after picking up my best friend and her family from the AUS Airport. Easy Parking in the dedicated parking lot Playground for kids Soccer field for kids (and adults) Good BBQ Good for groups We ordered the brisket sandwich, brisket by the lb, pork ribs, and collard greens. We were also provided with quick pickled carrots and of course regular pickles (a staple to accompany BBQ). All were tasty; I especially enjoyed the perfectly buttered and crispy bread. It's the little touches that make all the different and this was well appreciated. We'll be back soon for more!!!
Be the first to ReplyVery solid and interesting take on bbq.
The African heritage makes the food have a very unique flavor without being so outside the box it's uncomfortable. The setting is a cute outdoor space with various food trucks and a nice shaded area for families and kids. The service was as expected from a food truck nothing spectacular nor poor. Just a solid process that was fast and easy.
Be the first to ReplyDistant Relative is a proper name for this excellent BBQ
Distant Relative is a proper name for this excellent BBQ spot in Austin. Its a bit out of the way and hidden in an industrial park. But the Park has a beer garden. Kudos to whoever thought of that design. The brisket was divine, and the chicken was even better. Worth a side order splurge. There is ample seating and a craft brewery next door. Enjoy.

Would recommend for everyone to try this bbq place Some of the best in Texas. Also a very fun outside venue.
Be the first to ReplyFood is delicious.
Fast and efficient. A bit pricey for the portion size. Came here for a quick bite, by the time I arrived they were out of beef brisket, chicken and some other item. I got the pulled pork sandwich even though I wanted the brisket. Food came out pretty fast, the flavor was delicious, pulled pork was not dry and worked really well with the pickled cabbage. The size was a bet on the smaller side. Overall a solid four-star.
Be the first to ReplyPro tip: get there early on a weekday and avoid the wait.
Of course the brisket was great but it was the pulled pork that blew me away - and the burnt end Lima beans that were amazing.
Be the first to ReplyYup, it's good.
But you already knew that. Here's a few more important details: Seating is pretty easy because this is a food truck parked in the Meanwhile Brewing lot, which is huge. Items can sell out within just an hour or two of opening sometimes, so you probably wanna go early. Line doesn't take too long, however, so that's a big plus. There are other options for truck food in the lot, which is very useful if you're rolling with people who don't wanna gorge on meat. Brisket ain't the softest, but it's surrounded with a real nice bark, lot of black pepper flavor that almost reminds me of West Indies cooking, like jerk seasoning or something. Sides are solid, and they're where the diversions from classic Texas style are most apparent. Apparently the chicken is stellar, but it's been sold out on all three of my visits. Anyway, this place rocks pretty good, as long as you know what you're in for.
